Korg monologue shares its sleek layout, knob-per-function workflow and OLED oscilloscope with the minilogue and inherits its fast and 1-shot LFOs from the monotribe. monologue features new voicing and sound-sculpting abilities, an updated step sequencer and an all new microtuning feature with custom scales and presets by Aphex Twin. Truly portable, monologue runs on six AA batteries or an optional power adapter.
The low end of this guy's voice is amazing
Rense de Jong This guy's voice is a synthesizer in it's self.
Oh yeah :D
Retro Plus No it’s not.
This guy should do every demo
Not only was this one of the greatest overviews of the Korg Monologue - balanced with explanations and relevant audio samples (which didn't make me turn down the volume every time the synth was on) - but also possibly the best reference for what microtuning is - contained historical context and specifics on how it is applied in this synthesizer whithout waffling or oversimplifying - thank you John from Kraft Music 😃👍
As an owner of the Monologue to anyone watching this in the future considering a purchase and wondering if the should, the answer is YES. Sonically and feature wise it delivers way above its price bracket, and the moment you stop looking at the keyboard and start listening to its output, minikeys won't matter if that's what bothers you.
There is one great feature that really convinced me to buy one, especially for live performance. In the step sequencer, it is possible to turn off motion sequencing per step, while the motion seq data is retained for that step. This means for each note/step, you can switch between two sounds, one without motion seq, one with it.
If I didn't already have a Monologue on the way, this overview would have convinced me. Nicely done.
I had no idea about the tunings. That's awesome.
Yeah that was pretty impressive. Unexpected. Even without it this keyboard is a lot of bang for the buck. You get a lot for $300. Love the sequencer options.
I love the brain of this guy
_That_ was the best overview of the monologue I've seen on UA-cam - really great, thanks very much!!! Liked!
Very nice review! Very complete with clear explanations.
The best synth reviews on UA-cam...
1) Kraft Music
2) Sonicstate
3) Sweetwater
and Marc Doty for very deep dives into the few synths he reviews.
You forgot UJIIE!
The best review I've seen on this product! Thank you so much!
this looks like the best small sequencer out there...it just jumped to the top of my list.
Fantastic tutorial, John. One of the best I have viewed for this product, or any product. As a newcomer to analog synths, this was a significant help to me. Thank you.
Astonishing review, we can sure have a greater and deeper knowledge on the Monologue this way!
Thank you for putting up such good work on schematically addressing the possibilities this monosynth can accomplish.
This machine is growing inside me, I'll probably be getting into the synth world through Monologue.
Growing inside you? Ewwww.
oh man, so i have a friend whos been all into synth stuff for a long time, i asked to borrow his monologue as my first experimentation with a synthesizer ever and i gotta say, im in love. definitely going to buy one, but more importantly, this video helped so much. you went into so much detail about every little feature of it that i didnt quite understand yet. i particularly loved the part about the sequencer since there so much to learn that you cant just figure out through experimentation with it.
i think im gonna watch this video again tomorrow to pick up everything i missed, thanks a ton! saved me a ton of trouble with my first synth!
Wow, this is a great demo. Very nicely done.
Wow I wish you had been one of my teachers with your explanations so clear and succinct. Good job thank you 👍👍👍👍👍
Wow, what an explanation man! Thanks, very useful to decide and to learn!
the best review I've seen by far! great job
Great review, I purchased one during it. Super informative, thanx!
Good job, helped me decide. Just sold my Volca bass, upgrading to the Monologue. Micro-tuning is such a great feature and LFO sync to clock! Cant beat it for the price.
Excellent demo.
Great and super useful video. Thanks, John.
very good review, you guys always deliver! loved the Moog Mother 32 review as well ...
Great synth with friendly price! very detailed demo :)
Excellent! review/demo of this synth.
I know nothing about synths but I found this video brilliant all the same. What a pro review. Thinking of buying one and I don't even play.
Great review. It's a very powerful synth in a very small package. Totally love mine. Got the silver 👌
Thanks for the most in depth review yet! 18:53 was the most ear opening moment for me! I’ll be damned, it actually does user-assigned sample hold modulation. This is the deepest free synth (with purchase of Kronos) I ever got. Thank you Korg!
Best monologue demo out there!
jus found this. brilliant review. thanks for doing it
Super demo, thanks!
really amazing wynth
Best review so far. Thanks.
This was pretty much a perfect product presentation. Just the facts.
Thank you for this clear in depth review!
meneerjansen00 goede dag nog vriendelijke synth forum gebruiker :p
Vriendelijke groeten aan jullie beide van "Synthana" (forum naam)
Best monologue review!
this guy is just great
"Subways and trains seem to be popular....at least in product marketing videos." I lol'd!
Also just found out if you hold down the sequencer buttons and keep a key pressed, with the filter/amp opened it will play a sustained note, then just tap lightly for a gated note.
Great video, great tutorials, more videos on the Monologue, please and if with the Drumbrute Impact, please, thanks.
Incredible!!!
Great review
I love mine! it was a tough sell ,concidering i am a Moog guy .. this has turned my view of Korg for the positive! has the foot print of a lap top ,wich makes it a perfect work (midi) station for me! Before Korg i looked at a few Roland products. Glad i got the Korg instead! The Sequncer sold me on this little power house!
John, an excellent review of this new offering from Korg; nice logical progression covering major facilities that this unit provides. Also good in highlighting similarities with mono tribe and Minilogue. Bit of a disaster that the machine doesn't come with a power pack but rechargeable batteries are also good, less wires. Cheers
Brian Eibisch Kraft sells it with the PSU for retail.
I have a load of expensive software that can do this, but damn I really want this
What a voice !
Very nice overview of the features of the synth. You covered everything in good detail, but not so much as to make one's eyes glass over, though I will say it's pretty apparent you're an Aphex Twin fan. ;)
He speaks eloquently, doesn't slobber, and doesn't constantly refer to the artist by his real name for no reason, so he's not the kind of Aphex Twin fan that I'm familiar with.
Great Demo john.
ta
Love it Dude..
Wow, what a review!
This looks like a quite complete machine.
Excelente!
i'm seeing these used at GC for 200,00 usd, thats a lot of synth for no $$ also dude is a dead ringer for a younger mike paradinas. great review dude!
this is so cool. imagine when they bring out the big brother of the Minilogue. Would be nice to know when though
Saar Dean Korg Maxilogue?
Megalogue maybe.
Maxilogue sounds like and extra-large/absorbent tampon ... so I'm thinking no ... XD Lol
'Tis out now. It's the Korg Prologue.
Prologue actually..
Thankyou
Excellent review! Question... can you use the arpeggiator/step sequencer with incoming audio from another external synth?
20:25 After 20 minutes of erudite, controlled speech, "our bendy pal here" ftw. This is my new term for these
Just throwing a comment @13:13 so I can come back to it when mine arrives.
@16:50 ooooh yehhhh !!!!!!!
But does it have the same manual controls that the KORG Synthe-Bass had? Anyway I like it!
I should not have bought the Volca Bass last month. This is more my style :(
Volca bass is sadly terrible. No good sounds come out of it
Ben Gregor Nah it's great. Especially used as a sound module and played via MIDI. Not as capable as the Monologue sadly.
I agree with Haut: the Volca Bass can sound great. But a Monologue and a Minilogue are much more welcome in my setup these days.
why cant i hsar or program ANY key it seems therds a frequency taking over?
Wow, a synth review where the synth's sound isn't cranked up to 11 to make every headphone user deaf? Color me surprised.
Totally new to synths. What would be the “best” choice for a beginner between Mother 32 or Monologue?
Will they be able to be “linked” in any way?
Thanks in advance!
I know I'm more than a year late, but you can link them with a MIDI cable. I do this with my Minilogue XD and Mother 32, sending MIDI out from the Minilogue XD and into the Mother 32, so the M32 functions as a sort of bass synth below by Minilogue XD (:
@@SomeOne-pd6vm Rad 😀
what a great and well spoken accent. where is it from ? sounds like chicago but hey i am from london
He's from Milwaukee, an hour north of Chicago. He does an electronic music show under the name BTS WRKNG here, on 91.7 WMSE
could it be that a note is missing when it plays back the sequence you played at 14:33 ?
What are slim-keys?
can i put any sound from my Maschine library? and does the nobs and switches work in different programmes such as the maschine ? or is it just a specific program were they work?
Do I need a computer or tablet to run this or can I just use studio monitors
Heather Circle You can use any speakers, this doesn't need anything external to work. This doesn't have internal speakers so keep some headphones handy too.
Can Korg make it any smaller?
One reason why I'm not selling my volca bass for this.
Can you pretty much get the same sounds, variations, etc. using a Korg Microkorg? And how can you get all the keyboard (key) sounds when there are much less keys on this unit, Vs a full size musical keyboard?? Lastly which came out Later...this unit or the Microkorg?
Not exactly the same sounds no... this is an analogue synth, the MicroKorg is a virtual analogue machine with a similar synth engine to the MS-2000. You would get a more matched sound for the Monologue from a Monotribe, just a lot less of it..!
The Monologue was released in 2017, where as the Microkorg was 2002..
This tells you just how amazing and versatile the Microkorg is though to still be in use today after a production run lasting 17 years and still counting...!!
You can still get a full range of notes by changing the octave, number of keys is largely unimportant. Especially on a monophonic synth which couldnt be used for chords etc...
Great review but it really amounts to... it takes batteries.
Make a helipoter sound and I will be impressed.. Just me. Huey ...
It seems it's a Volca Bass on steroids
Slam Blambacid lol
