I just won a bid on EBay for a red monologue, can’t wait to get it & begin experimenting with it, great video btw, I’m sure I’ll be using it as a reference later on, thanks!
I can't figure out how to add the snare after the bass. Everytime i go to program it by turning up the filter and increasing the frequency, the whole sequence including the bass increases. Not sure how to keep them as two or more separate frequencies. Great video, thanks
for some reason i couldn't get it to where "every note should sound the same" at 0:47 . i could still hear different notes but idk why. my main Q tho is at 1:30 how did you get the sequencer to allow you to add in other sounds without it changing the whole overall sound of the beat? Or "program" i should say??? when i press "play" then start turning knobs & stuff to try & make and insert the snare, it changes the sound of the entire program instead of letting me hear the sequence with the same beat/program i just made and insert the snare sounds like you did?
I wish you would have been more detailed about the Motion Sequence, like what you had on each track. What was first? When you adjusted the Resonance at 2:25, the bars on the first track moved. Yet you just before that adjusted the Decay, while holding down the snare step buttons from the Sequencer. In total with the VCO2 waveform, Cutoff adjustment, VCO2 adjustment, Decay adjustment for snappy snare and finally Resonance for the snare tone makes 5 tracks on the Motion Sequencer, but the sequencer only plays 4. Edit: I got it pegged. Decay adjustment was not on the motion sequence. You adjusted the overall decay of the whole sequence. I thought that I had this down in August, when I bought my Monologue. But I forgot how to add the snares and it bugged the hell out of me, that I didn't rememember how to do it. But yeah, thanks for the video. Comes in handy when combined with other synths.
Yet another brilliant tutorial! Seeing how good the sequencer is on the Monolouge kinda bums me out though since Korg apparently decided to completely drop the ball when it comes to creating songs out of these patterns.
Speldosa How can’t you create songs? You have a hundred presets in a row you can record separately to your DAW. I don’t think a song mode is necessary on an analog synth. This already makes everything super easy.
I am plugging mine into Novation circuit Tracks and the Rhythym sampler for my DAWLESS Setup… definitely doable…. I can record sound from the Monologue directly into the Circuit rhythm sampler ….. all the sounds I made can then be used to make a bunch great patterns
I lose it at 1:38 where you made an edit cut. I get all the sounds up to that point but when I turn up VCO 2 with noise wave selected the filter cutoff doesn't seem to do anything different than before.
but as the synth is monophonic, how can it keep to play the kick while you change the sound to snare? Does the sequencer use it's own setting on any step?
how do you program the specific notes when you add in the snare sound. It seems that u are holding down the keys which is allowing u to specifically set the sound for those keys but I can't seem to do that.
Love the props on the table! I have owned a gold, blue and black monologues and the black is easily my favorite. Also i’ve been waiting for a video that takes good use of the sequencer. When this came out it wasn’t well utilized even in tutorial videos.
Question: After performing Korg's firmware update, I started playing with it and for the first time noticed that when I turn down all oscillators out of the mix, theres a hidden white noise oscillation at a very low volume. This is on all patches. I can filter it and put it through motion sequence. It's kind of cool actually, but I can't tell if this is intentional, to add grit to the sound or is this a qlitch? Somehow I've never noticed it before. Is it just my synth? I'm finding cool ways to utilize this 3rd / 4th "secret white noise oscillator", but what the heck?
Yeah, it's sort of like you program the filter to be high frequency when the snare hits. So it's like around at 4-6khz, which gives that snap sound. You press and hold the notes that are going to be snare on the sequencer, then while you are pressing and holding you set the filter knob and then release them (all of this you do when you are in motion mode).
I am no expert on the Minilogue, but i think you can do it in the monophonic mode. However it will be a bit more diffcult as it has a 16 step sequencer divided as 8+8 on the sequencer buttons.
I ll subscribe to your channel. I liked the fact that you explain with text what you are doing. You earned me completely however with your last track. I wish you explained how you got those etherial vibes in the last part of your video at sequence 3. At 10.30! I’m a guitar player. I’m expecting my korg in a week
Great video. I've Been frustrated with my monologue actually more me as I know it can do far more than I'm able to master. Loved sequence 3. Could you maybe get close up so I can see settings to get creating and learn how to use the sequencer
Great tutorial. Tell me is the original bass drum playing on a loop on another machine as I don't see the corresponding lights when you her the sound. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Hello. No this is not a stupid question. All percussion and drum sounds come from Monologue, while lush pad sounds come from samples that I have. Video and sound may not be on perfect sync on some sections, either one might be 1/32 note off which is enough to create confusion.
Where. Have. You. Been. All. My. Life ? I have had my kM sitting around doing nothing…. I was thinking about teaching myself sound design but was going to buy the small Volcas to add into setup. No need now. Thank you he,ping me understand sound design better 🙏
Man I'm still trying to get the hang of the motion sequencer. My issue is, say i set the kick notes for 1 5 9 13, then i want to add some noise on 16 like you showed with the motion sequencer/filter, i dont get any sound unless its on a note where the kick is triggered, any tips if that makes sense?
There is something wrong here. You should be able to get sounds. You gotta switch to the motion, and turn the knobs while pressing the 16th pad. That's how you adjust the sound. Sometimes the motion sequence is full, meaning that there are already 4 motions set (say you wanna edit cutoff, but the motion automation is full with say rate, attack, decay and shape. In that case you can't record any more motions and if that requires a specific parameter then you won't get any sound. Also sometimes (rarely) monologue ghosts a note if there are some particular notes before or after it.
hey I know this is an old video and a really noob question but I can't seem to find the answer - when you switch to the snare after doing the bass drum, how do you keep the bass drum sound while adding the snare? when I try this, it turns all of the sounds to the new one. thanks in advance!
Hey. So you first put the switch on the left of the 16 sequencer buttons to "motion". After that, if you press and hold a sequencer button (it means that if you press and hold the 5th button, the 5th note of the 16 note sequence will be effected), then adjust the desired parameter (cutoff, resonance etc), and after you are done you release the sequencer button, and that's it the parameter is stored.

Korg should pay this guy a commission!! I bought one for this purpose- to make analog percussion things! :) Thanks Tank!
Thanks for your support! You are welcome.
It's incredible that you can get an analogue drum machine out of this, it really shows how powerful the sequencer is.
I made my debut Album with the Monologue, such a treasure!
Yeah me exactly I made my debut album with it haha. You are correct!
Wow! I just got a Monologue. I'm going to try to replicate some of these drum ideas. Brilliant! It's not just a bass machine after all!
The synth itself already has drum songs in some of the presets.
I forgot to say thanks for the video. You made me buy one and I don't regret it.
I'm glad I could help!
Golly that was amazing! Blew my freakin mind 🤯
this is actually the first korg synth that I like
i'm quite good at making beats with the monologue but this got me really inspired. second and third sequences were bangers
What a great little tutorial! Unlocking another way of using it. Thanks for posting ✌️
We need a ambient tutorial next on the monologue
Hats off mate, I already love my Monologue but this takes it to another level. Great tutorial!
Thanks mate, glad it was useful!
Thank you for this inspiring video. Truly creative use of monologue and very good musical taste in combination.

Thanks. The sequencer has kind of like some type of hidden-functionalities there.

Yes, the sequencer actually can store up to 4 parameters (settings) per step.

Did you add sounds via the motion sequence to get the snares on the sequence (at 1:45)?
Yeah, it's sort of like you program the filter to be high frequency when the snare hits. So it's like around at 4-6khz, which gives that snap sound. Hey I think the pad sounds were samples from various songs, see the description fyi.
Is this part only the monologue? It sounds stereo

Can i do the same thing with the Korg minilogue? I'm just trying to make only one step sound like snare, but in the end all steps sound like snare.
