Gt7 on psvr2 is incredibly underrated. One of - if not - the very best vr experiences I’ve ever had. I dreamt of a campaign on gt sport in vr but gt7 blew it out of the water. Now with the pro additions it really is the best of the best.
Just wanted to say that John here has really put together another fantastic in depth video covering all the questions I wanted to know about this patch. I wasn't sure what some of the options were doing and it's clearly explained here and shown what the effects of different modes have on visual clarity and performance. I can see the passion John has put into his videos and it shows here. great work and really glad you covered this update.
I can confirm and as a hardcore PSVR2 user the pro patch is a great upgrade. Reprojection is made much more comfortable and is an overall smoother experience.
Been playing this on PSVR 2 this afternoon on my PS5 Pro, looks very, very nice !! Flatscreen mode with all the bells n whistles turned on at 120hz on my 65in LG OLED TV looks fantastic !
Gran Turismo 7 in VR on the pro is a pretty amazing thing tbh. An extensive game with a top-tier developer who pours resources in VR is pretty rare. And it shows: it's more clear, sharper and the framerate is rock-solid. I think this vr game on the pro (with a wheel) is one the best experiences gaming has to offer at this moment.
VR is incredible now on the new setting, I play no hud in vr, it’s only the weird fences that are noticeable, but the smoothness and clarity now, incredible 👍🏻👍🏻 great video
Holy shit, the intro took me by surprise on my MacBook Pro -- specially since I wasn't doing full screen. The video portion of the screen suddenly coming into full brightness was amazing.
So, I did my own testing, and as someone who actually owns a high-end 8K miniled TV with FALD and high peak brightness, I can't play GT7 in any other mode than that amazing 8K mode after I saw it. My jaw just dropped to the floor! As nice as the ray-traced effects are in some parts of the game, I just couldn't stand the low-resolution look and noisy image quality in GT Auto. For example, after seeing it in that 8K mode, which is super sharp-it was the sharpest thing I've seen during the 2 years I have had this TV-the noisy pixel crawling look in some small details, like in some wheels, looks awful in comparison, even though the reflections might more accurate, it still was way more unpleasant to look at. I just can't go back after seeing the 8K mode. Even that 120Hz mode, which my TV supports 120Hz at 4K, I don't find as attractive after seeing that 8K mode. It's great that we have three great modes for people who want the best possible performance, fidelity, or image quality. I chose the image quality case! Edit: I didn't realize that you can turn PSSR off in 4K ray-traced mode. Sure, it alleviates that noisy look a bit for sure, but it also disables the RT in the cockpit, as said in this video. I drive almost exclusively from this view, so I don't benefit from ray tracing that much, but in 8K mode, the dials finally look sharp in the cockpit. The ability to disable the PSSR made this choice a little bit harder, but I still like the sharp look more, especially in those cockpits and GT Auto. Most of the time, I see my dials during the whole race, but I see the other cars pretty much only at the beginning of the race before I have overtaken them.
GT7 has been my Main game since its launch! probably why I'm closing in on 2K hours of gameplay. I have been almost exclusively racing in PSVR2 over the last 15ish months now & this certainly confirmed the main things I wanted for my use case. Thanks again for the outstanding Video DF!
@fishmo_mofish yea I did invest in a sim wheel/pedal rig set. Combined with the PSVR2 it’s really the best experiences considering overall price point imo. As my friend who has the same setup…. “It’s a Simgasm!” 😂
@@seanmcbay yeah it’s not much of an arcade racer and really requires about 20 hours of time to get a full feel of what it has to offer but it’s not for everyone as well
OH MAN THAT HDR😃!!!No other game have I put over 1200hrs In VR and now with the pro I'm bound to put 1200 more. This game is legendary.🙏 Great video John!
The popping between On/Off is excellent. If at all possible, this technique should be used all the time. It drastically improves my ability to discern the difference compared to just side-by-sides alone. I realize the identical replays are what facilitate it here, but I wonder if it's not possible to just make smaller repeatable setups in most games.
@@HassanMohamoud-lg2xw But why can nobody do it now in another series with all the power in a PC and no console restrictions holding it back??? And on PC will that be played at 1440p on a 27" 50,0000,000 hz, whatever, monitor lol?
GT7 already crushed Forza last time on a base PS5, i don’t think we really need an update, Forza hasn’t changed and all the changes on GT7 have been covered in this video.
The raytracing is impressive. But the Resolution is lower and with PSSR there are too much Noise. But when You priorise the Framerate You get the 4k resulution.

GT7 + VR + Pro = Awesome as hell. It's SO good now. I hope the PSSR VR patch will be as awesome. edit: And, yeah, of course - Thank you, John, for this excellent video.
It’s strange to think that when it comes to pure graphics and presentation, this game still continues to crush every other racing sim, regardless of platform, even when played on a super top tier RTX equipped monster of a PC. Now the Pro makes an existing stunning looking game if better. By the way, I loved the HDR in this video.
Looks Amazing now PSVR2. it's worth noting that it's pretty much essential, to reduce Temporary Exposure Correction in each race, dependant on track, time of day, individuals eyes. It only takes a few seconds, but it makes a significant difference, especially in VR.

DF are yet again doing more PR than Sony... I only got to know about PS5 Pro patch literally when I updated the game and asked about Pro options on launch, why are there are was 0 info in the ad video on PS channel?!
My Thrustmaster T300 + Wheel Stand Pro V2 + IKEA Poäng are very happy with this 🌌💟 Already got slap-on subscribtion lenses at an VR Optician so I don't have to wear glasses or contacts. Amazing times we live in!
Great video! Really appreciate the HDR of the video! Please do more videos in HDR! The devices without HDR, UA-cam will automatically change it to SDR for those. Also wish DF covered HDR implementation in games, at least to say if it’s good or bad. Many games unfortunately have bad HDR implementation. Thanks for the great work!
@larsn7163 nice! I've owned mine for 4yrs now you can see mine in a video I uploaded on my UA-cam channel testing out my diff locks 😁 And yes the KEI JB64 version of the Jimny came out in GT7 a few months ago and the "global" JB74 version of the Jimny just released now with this new PS5 Pro patch. I've put a Honda K engine swap in it 😂 crazy fast now.
There's something about RT in this game where it just doesn't look "right" to me. In this comparison I prefer the look of the cube map reflections because not only is the image a lot sharper, this is also a more "video gamey" look to me. The chromed out Supra looks "correct" in the context if a video game with RT off, but looks "weird" with RT on. Maybe this is simply the transition period because with RT on, there's a downgrade in other areas of the image and the reflections themselves are somewhat noisy, so once we can get more power and have RT be of much higher quality, this will not look so odd anymore, but for now I think I actually prefer this game with RT off. It's cool and interesting, but I wouldn't want to play like that the entire time.
Actually, the most coming out of HDR during this coverage was the representation of the DF logo itself! 😅 The video about GT7 did not offer too much HDR in my opinion. I watched the video on a iPhone 16 Pro Max, where HDR in general is significantly noticeable. Only, because you asked for feedback, John. Anyways, thank you for the coverage of the Pro patch! 🙏🏻
This game is probably one of the only reasons I would get a PS5 Pro (if it ever gets a Disc Drive and a price cut). It looks gorgeous, this game already looked amazing and this update it's the cherry on top.
Better wait for GT8 on PS6. If you don't get PS5 pro now and wait a year or 2 then it makes no sense to buy it even if its 200$ price cut (which will not be the case almost at all). Either get it now and GT7 and enjoy 4 years before PS6 or wait for PS6 and then enjoy 8 years of fun (the more you wait the less value you will get out of PS5 pro in the end). :)
Excellent video John and DF! GT7 is really one of the premiere PS5 games and a joy to play and see. Very beautiful! Keep up the great work John and DF team!
Imagine if they brought GT7 to PC, with path tracing, and graphics that are just beyond what a console can achieve. Not to mention the mods from the community, and throw in reshade to bring that level of fidelity up more. What a missed opportunity 😑
If you select Prioritize Framerate and toggle PSSR off you have less LOD pop ins! At least on my TV which is 60 Hz maybe it's different for 120 Hz TVs. Lamp posts or other objects etc. come up much further in the distance, which is a lot less distracting! If PSSR is enabled in the Raytracing mode you get much higher res Raytracing effects!
Great video!! There is just one question left after watching this breakdown. What is YOUR preferred settings for this game on a VRR enabled display? There seem to be pluses and minuses to each, but I'm curious what you settled on for typical gameplay sessions.
Picked up this game a few months ago & have been addicted ever since. It looks even better on the Pro at higher frame rates & with the Ray tracing (even though the reflections are of a lower quality especially from front hood view). I just wish they didn’t have the micro transactions needed to collect cars faster.
13:55 I would love to get a wheel.... but getting a nice steering wheel, PS5 Pro, and PS VR2 is more than a bit outside of my budget for the near future. Great to see that the PS VR2 is still getting big updates like this.
As always, PD delivers amazing results. These guys... Since the original game I've been thinking the same, what more can they actually do for the next one? And then boom! The materials, lighting... It is absolutely incredible. Time to upgrade just for VR alone. I can probably die with the Nurburgring VR from GT7. But, you know what I'd truly like in the next games? Better water, better rain. At least visually on the windshield like in Driveclub. Aside from that, it is almost perfect for a car lover.
Great video. I am wondering what the recommended settings are with a psvr2. Does setting the game to the 120 mode or using pssr matter at all for psvr2?
It does not, VR2 is a standalone system. So the only settings that matter is the reprojection setting. But make sure in your PS settings that your VR2 is on 120hz video settings
I wouldn't say the difference between ray tracing reflections and cube maps is huge, but rather subtle. Also, in my opinion, you'd probably notice the simplified trees in the reflections much more often than the reflection of your car in the car in front of you, which is one of the most noticeable differences with ray tracing.
More HDR please, looks great on my MBP - I'm not sure what the effort required is at the production end, but I'd love to see a whole host of UA-cam content take advantage of HDR, and I don't expect there's too much of DF's audience without access to at least one HDR display.
At last, HDR video output for DF!
Enjoy it, since this is one of the few games that support proper and working HDR.
It looks amazing on my iPhone display. Nice to see UA-cam’s HDR implementation is actually good.

It does not, VR2 is a standalone system. So the only settings that matter is the reprojection setting. But make sure in your PS settings that your VR2 is on 120hz video settings
GT is simply the best. Great video
HDR was a real treat, thank you, John, great review 👍🏾
