A lot of it was dependant on which advertising was clicked on by viewers, so maybe house related ads generate more money than music ones?

The world is talking about money quite openly now that it's too late. 🤷♂ Cynically reactionary as humankind tends to be; somewhat more in some societies than in others.
This is not bragging. It's not like you're covered head to toe in bling or chomping on a wedge of notes. It's always really cheering when somebody does so well and your efforts are rewarded. Power to your elbow, George!
I feel like this video is a lot more educational than it is bragging about your success. For one it really details the difference between the income a viral video (which is unpredictable and shouldn't be counted on) can bring, and the income a normal video for a relatively popular UA-cam video can bring. It lets people know roughly how much to expect if you intend to become a professional UA-camr and as such how often you will need to produce content worthy of watching if you intend to make a livable income.
I don’t know much about tiny houses..although I live in a pretty small home. I’m old..been around a long time...almost 75 yrs caring for others..on my own. You should be quite proud of yourself. I don’t work any more and money is running out...except for a small pension (when you’re a single parent you can’t save a lot of money) and a social security check. Worked for many years..until heartache, loss and stress took a toll on my health issues. Well done. I wouldn’t know anything about starting a UA-cam channel...my life has kinda been like trying to climb Mount Everest. Haven’t reached the top...might not...but it’s been a long, uphill journey. And I’m exhausted, I’m sore, but I’m still hanging on...because I have 2 inside sickly cats. And I’ve been feeding 13 feral cats (all tnrd) and other outside critters fir almost 10 years. Live alone. But never feel lonely. If I wasn’t caring for someone (either human or non human), I don’t think I’d be here right now. Just a gut feeling. Congrats on your success. I don’t think you’re bragging. You’re helping others and sharing your knowledge. Thank you.💖👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I'm genuinely gobsmacked by how much UA-cam can pay people; no wonder everyone wants to be an influencer! This was very interesting and eye opening to me - thanks for sharing it. Also I am glad someone nice seeming is getting some of these benefits; so glad you've been rewarded for your hard work!
The other day I was setting up computer and ran browser without any extra addons. I was shocked how unusable it is. Adverts popping out from everywhere. Newspaper site covered with flashy moving objects making in impossible to focus on a text (forget reading with comprehension). Watching YT videos is pain - constant interruption of an advert. Luckily there are adblockers and other ways to block these. People forget (or actually don't know) that on social media(s) we are the product. You're correct - that's why there are so many influencers wannabies out there. But of course there are also many great people with sick talent out there too.
@@matoatlantis it's a difficult balance - on the one hand I bloody hate ads, but on the other hand, the youtubers I support only receive revenue from a video based on watched/clicked on advertisements - I feel as though if I want to support a UA-camr I will watch the ads. I am also on my mobile a lot of the time and while my browser has an adblocker, the UA-cam app does not (for obvious reasons). It's tough. I understand wha you're saying about wannabes, there are a lot of people doing and saying outrageous things online just for clicks/clout. I'm just glad at least some normal seeming people are getting a piece of the financial pie.
@@matoatlantis - Having issues with my browser so used Safari with no addons - like you say - it was f-king unusable. "Newspaper site covered with flashy moving objects making in impossible to focus on a text" YES YES AND YES gave me ADHD trying to read an article
A UA-camr once told me that as a very rough rule of thumb, if you take the number of views, divide by 1000 and multiply that by 5 you get an approximation of what a video will make. It’s not too far out when you do it for this one.
Worth remembering that for every viral video where folks get 'lucky' there will be thousands of those which don't. Even here where the video was live making a few dollars a month, it wasn't until it went viral that earning a "living" could be taken. Then you have to sustain that success.
Yes PLEASE do more videos about your earnings. It’s important for people to know the truth about money and have realistic expectations for their endeavors. Thank you for this!
Your honesty and transparency regrading UA-cam and your money is great, you certainly don't come across as arrogant at all, just honest. Love the concept that you are actually making money out of this video too!
As a person in my fifties I find this completely mind blowing that you are able to make such a huge amount of money this way. This is more than most people earn in a twelve month period and you earned that in less than half the time. Well done. It explains why so many people are giving up their day jobs so to speak and concentrating on producing content for UA-cam.
It's a great insight and motivator and of course this profession is a very competitive business and also dependant on the algorithm and channel support / random drive by visitors etc. The youtube video is one thing as it involves an insane amount of work to look professional, and then there is the actual preparation of the content and associated costs plus the actual labour. Therefore, assuming its run as a business, or at least followed business practices, an overview of what we would call management accounts would give a real sense of the actual revenues involved. To be honest, the £46k sounds amazing, but in reality after deducting taxes, expenses and cost of production etc the earnings are relative. Still, it would feel so great to get such a deposit into ones bank account for all ones hard work so I really agree with you it is mind blowing, especially if you can churn out content like this with the associated views for at least five times in the year :)
It seems a lot on the face of it, but then think of how much a TV company would spend on a show going out to 12 million people. I feel like George has been fobbed off if anything!
Watch some content providers who get lucky and start living off their platform. IT MAKES THEM INSANE. Follow more than a few who have been ruined by the algorithm mentally and physically.
I just stumbled on your channel and I appreciate your authenticity which can be rare on UA-cam. You actually are the first person that has been willing to share monies you receive I find that extremely refreshing .I have subscribed as I want to continue follow on your journey .
Congratulations George. You are a very astute young man, starting with taking on the house renovation in the first place. You’ll go far in life. I wish you every success with the course and your new venture on tiny houses. 🎉
This is fascinating. Keep doing what you’re doing. Other UA-camrs are showing off ridiculously expensive shoes, clothes, etc. and viewers are left thinking “I paid for that!” Whereas you have done something amazing, shared it with whoever chooses to watch, and in a totally transparent way. Kudos.
I think we all absolutely SHOULD talk about money and how much we are paid, I think its the first step to making sure that our time and efforts get properly rewarded. Thanks very much for sharing this information and I am very happy for you that you managed to make a little bit of a windfall there 🙂
I feel like the idea that it is impolite to discuss pay was originally put about by industry bosses who didn't want workers to realise when they were getting a bad deal.
Exactly! I guess if you are putting this 'mystery layer' on something being constantly promoted as supposedly being profane like money it keeps on being unreachable for you and me. Love this video for example, let's talk money! Sooner or later it will come out how much of an insane amount of profit youtube is making (and maybe milking content providers?).
@@Jemini4228 My dad came to work to Germany in the 1960's and he wasn't allow to speak to the German workers and had to keep in the barracks for foreign workers, because turned out the foreigners were only paid a third. I actually really respect you making this video, and being so transparent about it all, in a really humble way. Keep going, I think you've cracked open a (Pandora's) box which will take you far and I know you are bright enough to get out when it's too late.
Not really a Pandora’s Box - that would be releasing problems into this world! More like opening a geode - both the videos, and the tiny house itself - mysterious to begin with, (and rough, in the case of the house), then full of amazing surprises and beauty.

I found this really interesting. I've been discussing with friends about how viable YT is as a career move. I've seen a lot of the younger generation move into this area and I've always wondered how much money can be made doing this and is it a potential career path. I understand that you got lucky with the video going viral and off that one piece you effectively made a good year's wage. I can see with the right content it is possible to turn YT into a potential full-time job.

I'm delighted for you George. You are a thoughtful, sensitive - and frank - young man. I find the figures fascinating - most YTers are so coy. You deserve every penny - I agree you paid too much for the property and far too much in fees.
What I love most about this video is that I can mentally take the amount you've made from the videos and deduct them from the overall cost of the renovation. That's really cool. I feel like I've just saved money vicariously.
I watch a variety of UA-cam channels. People like you who did a great job deserve good money. It's a lot of work to produce a good product. It was very interesting to find out how UA-cam income is determined. I had no idea that the type of ads and the topic of a channel made such a difference in money earned. No wonder so many people are starting their own channel. I find a surprising number of 'every day' people like you make the best channels! Fantastic, George, well done! You deserve every penny. And it's great that you share this kind of information, as it will no doubt encourage other creators too.
I admit I have seen your tiny house renovation video pop up on my screen but I never watched it. I discovered your channel after you adopted Junior - what a sweet kitty! I admired how thoughtful you were about her care and I like the calm sound of your voice. The accent doesn’t hurt either :-) as I am from Canada and, to me, your burr is lovely to hear. It intrigued me enough to check out more of your channel. As for the money discussion question, I knew that “UA-camrs”/“influencers” earned money from sponsors, but until I watched this I didn’t know you earned money for views too - very informative. Like anything in media, if someone is offended at content they always have the option of changing the channel. Yes, there will be people who think talking about money is crass, but I think you handled the topic very factually, with thankfulness for your audience’s time. I appreciated the information myself. Learn something new every day. I only subscribe to two channels, but I am going to add yours as my third. Thank you.

On the contrary, I find your openness to be refreshing. I've often wondered how much money people can make on UA-cam videos, so thank you for sharing. And congratulations to you for what you've accomplished. Your charm and good character combined with a really interesting and challenging project as well as your professional editing skills are what made this happen. It was not just luck. It was all down to you. Bravo! ✌❤

Yea, less than 1/2 cent per view!!!!
Actually, it fluctuates from just below a 1/2 cent to just above. So let's say the average is 1/2 cent per view!

Congratulations on your success. It’s well deserved! I didn’t mind you talking about UA-cams payments at all and I’m glad it helped with your renovation. I look forward to more vlogs!
cheers jeff! appreciate it!
If people don't like the finance videos then they can just watch the reno videos. Congratulations to you for your humbleness, hard work and honesty.
It was actually very interesting to see someone being open about their UA-cam income.
the world needs more people talking about money openly! so thank you for this
The world is talking about money quite openly now that it's too late. 🤷♂ Cynically reactionary as humankind tends to be; somewhat more in some societies than in others.
Its probably a class thing, but it's generally not seen as good social etiquette to talk about how much you earn.
Dude's just trying to help people.
I always wonder how much people make on UA-cam making content so I appreciate the transparency 🙂
glad to provide it! :)
Of course, if you make a video that UA-cam politically disagrees with, you don't make a cent.
You're welcome. It's also good to know that I actually support the people that I watch.
You earned every penny. The project, the vision and the production value was incredible.

The video paid a massive part of the house off, simply amazing.
The kids call it internet money

This is fascinating. Keep doing what you’re doing. Other UA-camrs are showing off ridiculously expensive shoes, clothes, etc. and viewers are left thinking “I paid for that!” Whereas you have done something amazing, shared it with whoever chooses to watch, and in a totally transparent way. Kudos.
I think we all absolutely SHOULD talk about money and how much we are paid, I think its the first step to making sure that our time and efforts get properly rewarded.
Thanks very much for sharing this information and I am very happy for you that you managed to make a little bit of a windfall there 🙂
100% agree
I feel like the idea that it is impolite to discuss pay was originally put about by industry bosses who didn't want workers to realise when they were getting a bad deal.
@@Jemini4228 exactly
Thing is social media is based on communication, so this weird 'talking about money is impolite' mentality only serves them. Glad this guy made this video, will watch over and over now without skipping the ads
You are so refreshing George. Please don't apologize. I think we all appreciate your content. Thank you for sharing and inspiring me to get off my butt and start my own channel!
The rule of remodeling, is that everything will cost 3x as much as you planned, and take 5x as long. Everything that could possibly go wrong will, and then there will be more surprises on top of that. I used to flip houses before the real estate bubble burst, and I think that's where I got most of my gray hair from.
An architect once told me regarding construction projects: You can have cheap, fast or done right. Pick any two you like.
And this is the rule of thumb I use to bid jobs lmao
@@tmcgill2219 Nah, CAP Theorem doesn't work with construction projects.
@@tmcgill2219 My thoughts exactly. Finished renovating a few months ago and things went relatively smoothly, but only because the builder was top notch (and charged accordingly).
