  • The Star Wars Laser Pistol was a toy I had as a kid and have wanted to get again for a very long time. This one needed some restoration as it was missing a latch knob and had a few other issues.
    So I took the whole gun apart and got it looking as good as new, including a replacement box to display it in.
    Get replacement boxes here: www.replicator...

    I can't believe what an awesome job you do. To think that some don't approve of restorations is alien to me. I think what you do is fantastic Dave! Thanks so much for your inspiration.

      Thanks. It's only a very small group of people that don't approve, so I wouldn't worry about them. They are your toys and you can do what you want with them. Just enjoy it.

    Hi Dave,
    Great video as always. Might i suggest you cast with two part epoxy resin that you can buy cheaply from any pound shop. You can colour it with a drop of acrylic paint and it sets much stronger than milliput and is as hard as plastic once set, (milliput has a tendency to crack or crumble over time with age in small parts) the resin also has a quicker setting time. And you can mix the correct colour pigment paint before adding it to the epoxy resin to get the perfect colour match. It is also cheaper than milliput. Using epoxy resin a two part mould is possible to create the part you made in one piece cutting out the need for plastic parts. Keep up the great work as always i look forward to to your next video.

    Always a pleasure. Being not-so-mechanically-inclined myself, I always watch at the edge of my seat as you pull the insides of a toy apart--and then such satisfaction as it all comes together. It's so cathartic. It's like watching a Hitchcock film!

    The fact that this man catches any hate at all is astonishing. He's just doing what he loves and is providing help to others collectors. If people don't agree with the methods, don't do it... The hate is beyond strange.

    Had to fix my Han Solo blaster and the Biker Scout Pistol too, it was a crazy fix for me, but once I figured out that the direction of the batteries can determine the direction of the motor, I got it working perfectly! Such simple tech, but a lot of fun to recreate, that box is an awesome touch!

  • @bradellington134
    @bradellington134 Рік тому

    Now the button recreation and the replacement stop peg you made were very quite impressive indeed! I just recently had to open my 78 Star Wars OG to get the motor working again. The back connector plate needed some reinforcement to where a peg had broken. Couple motor spins with batteries in, and she started right back up as good as new. Mine has some surface scratches and a burn mark, but.... Short story real quick. Couple years ago, an old friend from the 90's I had reconnected with gave me like 4 boxes full of mainly 90's and some early 2000 stuff in there; playsets, vehicles, figures loose and unopened. He said he had something special for me and handed me this DL-44. It took me a minute, but when I saw the burn mark on the one side, I knew right then it was the one I owned in the mid 90''s. He had bought it from me along with other vintage vehicles and stuff, and gifted it back to me. I'm very thankful I have it working again, and have been considering trying to clean up the scratches and burn, but I think I'm gonna leave it as is, cause it's mine. Crazy being reunited with a toy you used to have 27-28 years ago.
    Love your videos as always, and thanks for sharing your ways of how to bring these old gems of ours back to life and beauty. MTFBWY!

    Another nice restoration. It's amazing how much better it looked after you just washed it in soap & water! Your milliput cast dial/knob looked great too! Maybe a little extremely fine sandpaper could have dulled the sparkle a bit there? Just a thought. You found a nice, working blaster pistol to start with, and now that you've put it in the repro box, it just looks amazing! Congratulations on a spectacular job well done!

    By now I've watched a lot of your videos and I have learned how my old toys were made and how they work, and I'm impressed of how simple and creative yet efficient are all the noise effects for the ships and guns and dialogs for some figures in comparison with the toys in this days. It would be interesting if you take apart a new toy or gun that has SFX to see how are they made in this days and compare it to a vintage toy... GREAT VIDEO

    Nice Job! One small tip from a long time rattle-can user - don't lay the part down as you spray it, because the part lies at an angle, and you can end up with uneven paint blobs (they will collect at the lowest bits of the part). I use blue tack to hold the part upright to a piece of cardboard and then spray it as it stands even.

  • @beavis6363

    Fantastic work. Forgive me, but if I may, WD-40 is not really a good rust inhibitor, but only a water displacer (hence WD). I would suggest perhaps wiping down the screws with a paper towel moistened with a light household oil. I really enjoyed the exploration into casting and fabricating the replacement knob! Nice job.

    The first thing any self-respecting Star Wars fan did on Christmas morning in 1978, after unboxing our new Han Solo blaster, was to rip that sticker OFF! Han Solo didn't have a sticker on his blaster. If you still had the sticker on your blaster by the first day of school after the Christmas break...you were a poseur...and faced brutal playground ridicule... and had to be R2-D2 or Chewbacca.
