Great review. We love SOTW. Yes, very engaging and enjoyable. Although it is designed as a read out loud, my son reads it as a reader.

Hi Marieka, thank you so much for this video. It was very helpful. I'm using the first volume with my first grader right now. We started using it at the start of term 2 but because she's so interested in reading the stories and doesn't like to stop at one chapter, we're already halfway through the book. I gave her some sheets here and there to answer a few questions on some of the chapters, but for the most part it's just a read aloud, maybe a craft, and discussion questions. I was thinking of giving her some more sheets to add to her history portfolio about ancient Egypt, since she only did very few questions/writing on that topic. Do you think it would be ok to pause and go back and do a bit more on a previous topic (eg ancient Egypt) and then return to where we are currently up to?

It is a great resource, I am glad that she is enjoying it. Personally I think it is totally fine to go back and go over something and then return to where you were at

Were you meaning narration rather than recitation?

I like the idea of switching it up and sometimes having my girl write out the narration as penmanship practice or dictation so she can practice her spelling.
