Here are some random history and prehistory facts: The mayans raised a rare species of bee that didn’t sting called maya bee. Cleopatra(an ancient Egyptian pharaoh) is closer to us than she is to the construction of the pyramids of Giza. Stonehenge is considered prehistoric because writing didn’t arrive at England at the time, even though it was built only 2000 years ago, this is because prehistory is any event or time before writing records of it. The dinosaurs have existed on this earth for 80 times longer than we have. The time from 252 to 66 million years ago is called the Mesozoic era, also called the age of the dinosaurs. The Cenozoic era is all the time from 66 million years ago to modern day, it’s considered the age of mammals. The oldest mammal was probably megazostrodon which lived in the late Triassic period about 200 million years ago. It took 20,000-30,000 workers and 20 years to build the great pyramid of Giza. You might’ve noticed that the pyramids looked like staircases-why? Well, its because it wasn’t originally like that, it originally had a layer of limestone layered over it making it white in the red sky but the limestone has since eroded.

Hello, im new to HS but i had started the application process during term 2 holidays, not realising how long it could take and so my yr 1 & yr 5 boys started 3 weeks into term 3. This has been a bit stressful as we couldn't take full holiday breaks at the same time as school otherwise they would've fallen further behind than 3 weeks. Im trying to stick as closely to it as possible so they can have a nice long break at Xmas before starting next yr. My question is, do you have any videos with tips on work samples/reporting? I think I am unnecessarily stressing about this as I'm with Euka & they do help out a little, i just feel like I need to hear it from another HS parent. Thank you so much for taking the time to help other's.

I love using one notebook for everything. It’s definitely a “deschooling” thing for my kiddos who were so used to having separate books for each subject. Thanks so much for sharing all this Marieka! I’m starting to plan for next year and your style is just so beautiful!

My child is 5yr 10 months and struggles with handwriting (getting very tired after writing a few words). I like the idea of using a record of learning/notebooking after learning about a topic (we are covering space too at the moment). How would you typically scaffold learning (in addition to orally) with writing? Would you write for him and encourage drawing instead, or perhaps start with one word and a drawing and then build from there to simple sentences? Just fleshing this idea out! Thanks!

Hi Marieka! Thank you for your wonderful videos-they’ve been a great source of inspiration for us. I wanted to share our experience to hopefully help other families navigating curriculum options. Like you, we enrolled our child in Euka earlier this year. At first, as new homeschooling parents, we found it useful to pay extra for the report creator to assist with our registration application to the State’s Home Education Unit. However, we’ve been quite disappointed with the curriculum itself. Since Euka only offers refunds within a 7-day cooling-off period, we’re now locked into a 12-month registration. In hindsight, I think that’s too short a window for families to assess if the program is right for them. Now, we’re stuck paying over $600 for a curriculum we no longer use. Additionally, in a recent UA-cam episode, the founder and CEO shared some extreme and polarizing views on certain topics, which was concerning for us and solidified our decision to move away from the program. How are you and your son finding it? Do you think you’ll continue with Euka?

I love how one of the chairs is missing the cross. We have the exact same chairs and someone rocked on one and it fell and snapped on the backrest :P. Good old nail gun and glued together atm :P
