Growing Carolina Reaper Peppers - A-Z - Seed to Fruit
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- In this video I take you through my entire growing of Carolina Reaper here in the tropics. Carolina Reaper is still the Guinness record hottest pepper with 2.2 million SKU (Scoville Heat Units).
Originally named HP22B, Carolina Reaper is still officially the hottest pepper in the world. Pepper X was claimed to be twice as hot by Currie in 2017, but at the time of writing, no known sample exists.

Hello Pascal,
You like to take care of plants. This is a very hot pepper. I've heard of your name. Thank you for sharing your cultivation process. Keep doing the things you love. See you. Big greetings.
Kind regards. Your friend Mehmet
Thank you Mehmet. I usually only grow Ghosts, but there are a lot hotter.
@@growNglow I can't think of anything hotter than this :-) see you pascal.
Amazing video, just planted about 20 seeds tonight and I'm hoping they turn out just as great as yours.
I have gotten 2 more harvests off them since this video. I have sundried some and made sauce from others. Good luck with yours and thank you for watching. .
How did it turn out?
My carolina reaper produced many fruits but they fall off while still green. Is it because i water too much? I water every other day. Love your videos.
That is disappointing, for sure. Most problems are from either overwatering or extreme heat. One cannot say whether every other day or every 3 days is correct or not. It all depends. When mine have developed fruits, I tend to starve them of water. Thank you for watching
I am trying to grow a reaper as well. Thank you so much, I learned a lot.
Thank you for watching, and good luck with your crop
My Carolina Reaper chili shape similar to yours. Is there any difference between this shape and the one have tail?
Mine do have tails, but not so pronounced on some of the fruit. Thank you for watching
I don't quite understand if you're supposed to water the seeds within that time they take to sprout. I sowed them in summer here in Argentina (
25-30° every day)nd it's super hot, the earth gets so very dry everyday... I've seen info everywhere where it tells you to cover them with platic wrap, other people tell you to water them every 4-6 days, there's other people that water them every day, I'm just so confused, it's my first time. ANy advice?
The reason that they tell you to cover is to keep it warm and moist. When they sprout out remove. Do not put in direct 30C sun in the beginning, especially during the middle of the day, then the soil will not dry out. I usually water from the bottom for the first few weeks. Thank you for watching
Hello, how often do you watering them sir? Daily? watering near plant or in plates ? thanks, watering is my concern
I wait until the pot is light or the leaves start to droop. Overwatering can cause lots of problems. Thank you for watching
You just put them in the soil straight from the chilli? If I harvest in august/September can I keep seeds until March? And if so how?
Because it is hot here all year around. We grow all year. Thank you for watching
Having trouble getting mine to fruit. Lots of flowers. But hardly any fruit.
There are many reasons why flower drop occurs. Happens to me sometimes. Usually too much heat or too much watering by someone else in the household. If you are in an arid area, try misting to keep the humidity higher. If there are not many flying insects, use a cotton bud (Q-tip) to pollinate. Lastly, fertilize with less Nitrogen and more P & K. Thank you for watching
Isnt Carolina reaper a hybrid. I would be better not to take seeds from hybris. Correct me if I am wrong sir.
Technically yes, but not like F1 Hybrids from seed companies which tend to deteriorate on second or third generation. Carolina Reaper is a stable strain, and is staying true just like a heirloom. Thank you for watching
Thank you very much for the video :D
Did you count how many days were from the flower to the ripe fruit ?
I will start to grow around 40 carolina reapers in April ( Here in Romania it gets warmer at the end of March). Indoors, sadly, I can't start growing them because of the space..maybe just the germination between 2 wet paper towels and then transfer them into pots in the greenhouse. During the day it is very warm inside the greenhouse, but I'm afraid that during the night the temperature will drop until 5 degrees Celsius. In some years it even snowed in April during the night.
I hope that I can harvest some peppers by the end of September..that means around 6 months. I wish that is enogh time.
Probably best to get them started now indoors in small pots, and transfer outside in late April.
@@growNglow Thanks. I have already started growing them indoors since 5 february ..I wish they will resist 1 and a half month in these mini pots. There are 70 mini pots/cells. But I think there is not enough space. But for 1.5 months it is ok. I saw that carolina reapers make big leaves
Have you tried Pyrethrin as an insecticide?
No. I would not put anything that severe on hot peppers. I stick with neem oil mixed with soap
A very impressive journey sir :) i just started planting carolina reaper seeds 2 days ago. I would like to ask what fertilizers did you use? Would calcium nitrate at first be enough from seedling to leaf propagation stage? Then switch to 14-14-14 later on? Thank you
No. I wouldn't put that much nitrogen later on. Maybe 14 14 14 once while young. At flowering time I use like 12 12 30 +ME or I add some calcium, much like tomatoes
10 seconds in this video and I immediately got jealous over that sweet nice sunny climate all around you 😅😎☀️
Haha. That is why I moved here. Thank you for watching
Great content, thank you! Looking to plant them soon here in Serbia. The summer is gonna be hot! :)
You really should have sown the seeds indoors last month, but if the summer goes well, you will be harvesting in August. Thank you for watching
Really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for taking the time to make this video for us.
Thank you for watching. I am glad you enjoyed.
Due to the black pots I think is why they grew quicker. The heat absorbed is much greater.
Maybe a little, but the temperature is hot here all year round. Thank you for watching
Just discovered this channel. I've followed your Irish Chippy channel and enjoy those informative videos. Looking forward to viewing these now. Thanks.
Thank you for joining Smokey. i seem to be collecting & hoarding youtube channels. 🤣
👍🏼
I grow hot chillies too, and sticking my finger in my eye has happened way more than I'd like to admit. I just wash my hands in 99% rubbing alcohol afterwards.
And we will probably do it again 😩Thank you for watching
Very nice video Pascal . That’s awesome you can grow peppers all your long
Hi Rob. I thought I replied earlier, but it vanished. Yes it is great, but other stuff is near impossible to grow with the heat. Now that you have an Aerogarden you can do also. The reaper is a big plant so I will not try yet, I have Siling labuya, Brazilian Starfish (too big), Purple Japonica, and mini Habanero growing in my AeroGardens
Great stuff man! Thanks for the informative video. I planted my first Carolina reaper today!!
Thank you for watching. I am glad it was helpful. Good luck with your crop.
hey brother i want to know from you can we save carolina reepers seeds after it got mature for next season growing....i searched in google that its a Hybrid variety....so i am thinking whether it will keep its true variety or it might change to F1 generation
The reaper is a crossbreed of a Habanera and a Naga. Almost all super hots are hybrids of capsicum chinense and/or capsicum frutescens. As for F1, I would not call it F1 as this is usually reserved for hybrids made in a lab by multinationals. F1 being the next generation after the cross pollination. Sure, some Reapers are better than others, but most seem to hold the original characteristics through generations, unlike commercially developed F1 seeds developed by conglomerates
I planted 50 seeds of Carolina Reaper 15 days ago.
But only one has sprouted so far.
How many days should I wait for germination?
How many days at most will it germinate?
That all depends on the seeds you have gotten, and the climate you are living in plus the temperature.
How's she goin'? Those peppers even look hot let alone tasting hot. Wow they must be potent. Be careful eating them. Take care!!!
Hi there Mike. You can grow them in Canada. Start them inside with an LED. Thank you for popping over. Hi to Nannie
Sir you have an amazing place beach on the back garden on the backyard and frontyard wow that is heaven ❤️
Sir I'm tribal and we eat those chill while eating food.no gloves needed.i eat 2-3 chilli if i want to with food
Wonderful. I have some friend that eat them like they are just Cayenne
What do you do with your Carolina reaper's? I moved from the UK to Thailand and have planted some As well as other peppers Are you from Ireland? I used to do a lot of fishing there And my Grand parents came from there
Hi Mark. We use them in cooking and sometimes I make sauce. I have even dried and ground them (see my other videos). Yes, I am very much Irish (my main channel is call Irish Chippy). It is a long time since I went fishing in Ireland. Thank you for watching.
I’ve had a Carolina reaper growing for about 5 months now. After the third month I had lots of flowers but they were very weak and would just fall off. Wasn’t sure why. I stopped taking care of it since then and let nature take over. Looked at it the other night and still nothing. Today I checked and had about 8 chilis at a decent size hanging off of it
I understand fully. Flower drop can be caused by many factors. At least now you have some fruit for seeds. Good luck, thank you for watching
I'm growing Carolina reaper this summer in New Zealand. I'm worried they've not had enough sun. Think I might get my bf to move my big container to the all day sun where my tomatoes are.
Try starting them earlier indoors next time. Maybe August in NZ. Thank you for watching
Hi, informative video👍, by the way i have aphids infestations on my pepper plants, could you please give me some tips to stop them naturally?? Thanks
Thank you. I use neem oil mixed with warm water and a little soap
Turmeric + onion/garlic + tobacco leaves. Blend them all with water, filter it. Use its filtered water to spray the plant every afternoon to get rid all the bugs. Spray once a week for prevention.
Great video thanks
Just planted the seed.. need to prune the plant or just leave it?
It is up to you. I used to top, but not any more. Thank you for watching.
I am 100% convinced that the youtuber qxir is your son or something, based on voice and accent
☘☘ Hahaha. I am old enough to be. We are both from the same part of the world. Actually my main channel is /IrishChippy so I am more Irish that he is. ☘☘
@@growNglow :o will check it out!:D
Reminds me of the end of Papillion, where Dustin Hoffman is rambling about his farm.
Have not seen that movie. It is one on my list now.
@@growNglow Its a beautiful movie, it will stick with you.
I use neem oil too but what do you use that's not so natural What specifically do you use that works
I mean regular pesticides that you can purchase in garden centers
@@growNglow No specific one?
how long did it take to get to the end (October) but i didnt catch when u started
I had to check back. It was the the 27th of May. Thank you for watching
not too bad😉
Great video! I've been wanting to grow these peppers as well in Tacloban
Really. I am in Maasin. Do you want some seeds
@@growNglow Yep! I'd be most thankful for that.
Also I'm hoping I can go back and visit Caimito after the pandemic ends.
Monterrey oil is great too, I prefer it to neem.
Thank you for that tip. I will look into getting some
Ty, nice piece of property too!
Thank you for dropping by again and watching
I hold my seeds in a wet napkin for a week, to see which ones gonna grow, and which ones fail, so I don't waste mud and effort on faulty seeds. And in the northern climate it's tough, but I found that in a greenhouse I get 2 buckets of peppers from 5 plants. Which is plenty. And so far all of them had plenty of fruits. Maybe survival instinct kicks in))
I do that with some older seeds, but reapers usually give me a high germination rate. Thank you for watching
Hi dong, me please
Yes dai, Just call over and I will give you some free seeds.
Meeee! I want free seeds 😁
Sure dai. Call over
Thank you!
You're welcome. Thank you for watching
Sounds like a Scottish highlander accent. Great work man.
Haha. You (and I) would not be able to understand. I have a soft eastern Irish accent. Thank you for watching
Nice job. Ate one of these yesterday to impress my boys, they're definitely intense but either I have a really high tolerance for it or people are exaggerating about how dangerous they are.
There are no dangers, but if you 'starve' the plant whilst ripening, you get a much hotter fruit. Did you eat a full fruit?
@@growNglow sure did, cut it in half and only ate one half initially as I didn't know what to expect but then ate the other half a couple minutes later
@@growNglow starve? Starve from water or from nutrients?
thank youuuuuu
Thank you for watching
Nice
