First time reacting to Pisces by Jinjer. One hell of a ride!
• JINJER - Pisces (Live ...
Apologies for the video quality. my camera died on me so had to switch to a back up.
Please like, share and subscribe.
Also feel free to suggest future reactions in the comment below.
What could posibly go wrong with a classical pianist on the drums, a jazzist bass player, a reef wizard guitarist and a magical fairy in the vocals? These people are not from this world...They claimed to be from Ukraine, but I am pretty sure that they are from outter space. Keep them coming and see it by yourself how special they are.
Perennial live at Wacken shows her talent well. My favorite performance is Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev.
Nice Reaction and great analysis! Be prepared for a journey 🤘 they are great Musicians and they nail it live! Just follow any Jinjer playlist, you can't go wrong. I recommend the "Perennial Live at Wacken", "Pit of Consciousness Live in Kiev", "Captain Clock Live at Ressurection Fest", "Vortex OMV", "Teacher Teacher OMV" and many more... ENJOY!!
The most amazing band to come out in decades. Their real life story. Forged by conflict, tempered by war. Tireless fighters for their cause, gonna be on top. Remember, they are ukrainian. The Bass player litterally escaped Donbass while the road he was driving on was being shelled. The flat they lived in destroyed by artillery. They are the most metal in life of any band. Pickup their story with "Home Back". Hear their interviews on Ukranian Metal Bands channel. You'll be amazed by these people.
Slava Ukraine! Heroyam Slava! Slava Jinjer! Never say die!
to answer your question about the bass: i _believe_ that one is from an independent luthier from israel.
(i say "believe" because he has a few exotic basses , and i do get them switched up a bit).
the guitarist has also previously used the same exotic makers , but is now officially with ESP.
Vlad's drum work is indeed amazing. he's a classically-trained pianist who taught himself drums specifically to join this band (they have quite a few line-up changes ; but have stuck with this current line-up since 2016). My favorite work from him is on _Vortex_ , with _Mediator_ being a close second).
this is indeed the traditional intro point for Jinjer. then:
- Perennial , live at wacken 2019
- Teacher Teacher
- Judgement & Punishment (the OMV is good ; but most ppl seem to prefer the vocal 1-take)
- Wallflower
- Pit of Consciousness , live at Kiev
for older stuff (i.e., previous line-ups):
- I Speak Astronomy
- Cloud Factory
- Outlander
- No Hoard of Value
- Until the End
- Scissors
i know that's a lot, and i could keep going .... not really a bad song in their discography. i'm sure other people will add to that list.
You mixed up the guitar and bass origins a bit:
- The bass Eugene is using in this video is a custom shop Monarch, made by the ukrainian luthier Stas Pokotylo.
- The israeli luthier you mentioned is Omer Deutsch, the creator of said OD Guitars, which Roman started using and was endorsed by between 2018 and 2022, when he switched to Jackson (not ESP).
Yes, it's a bit surprising to see Roman endorsing Jackson guitars. There's an interview with them where they say no major companies would have them as endorsers until now, so they went with small luthiers. That seems to have worked out well. I dig the boutique guitars Eugene and Roman often play.
I would add who is gonna be the one (Live) Napalm Records to that list.
I assume you are the metal dude who prefer the heavy stuff.
Most reactors are not really into the heavy sound so usually comments suggest them to check out "Perennial" (live at Wacken). It's a bit heavier than Pisces and overall it's a good song and great showcase of Jinjer's live quality.
But in your case I'd suggest you as a next step into the Jinjer's "rabbit hole" the song "Who's Gonna Be The One" (live at Atlas). Really heavy and energetic stuff, shows the band from the opposite side (in some sense). This song and then "Teacher Teacher" really show that the band is a true gem because a gem has to have many facets.
Later each next song will show you another facet of the band. They have a couple of dozens of bangers and another couple of dozens of solid tracks.
Fun fact - different fans will give you way different toplists of Jinjer's songs (and in most of them Pisces will not appear in top-10). It shows that Jinjer's tracklist is very tight. It's really hard to pick the one, two or three best songs of this band because most of them are great but different so each has it's own fanbase.
Welcome to Jinjer! I hope you continue down this amazing Rabbit Hole! They have a very deep catalog of awesome songs for you to discover!
Great reaction! Welcome to the party, pal.🤘
Jinjer Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev is so hard and heavy that it may cause you to have to change your pants.
Sounds like i am doing myself a disservice if I don't check it out!
Don't care about the video q when I hear you making sense. Welcome to the fold, Jinjer is a somewhat acquired taste, but seeing you dig this one, things will only get better. The usual path would be 'Teacher teacher' OMV or 'Perennial Live At Wacken', those are awesome, but I'd also like to see the 'Ape' OMV or 'Just another', for example. There's an evolution to Jinjer as is to be expected of any band, but I'm not so mad about the last album, although it got a lot of praise. Stay strong, see you in the next reaction.
Hello my friend! For me Jinjer was not an acquired taste. It was a "whack me over the head with a club, drag me back to the cave and f*ck me" taste! They hit me like a pole-axe. I was like "Where has this band been all my life!"
Tatiana is a goddess, welcome tô Jinjer.... next react perennial live ressurrecion fest 2022 please
I am 64, and I have been a Jinjer fan for 6 years now, I have never been a fan of anyone particular band for this long. Tatiana is a world-class growler and perhaps can make the switch between cleans and screams faster than any lead singer out there. I would also check out some of their earlier songs like "Just Another" and "Beggers Dance" , "Captian Clock". I you enjoy your Jinjer adventure.
Good emotional reaction 🤘 Yes, you definitely need to check out another Jinjer songs!
Perennial live at Wacken, I speak astronomy, Vortex, Pit of consciousness, Home back could be the next)
more Jinjer is always a good thing. any song will do.
Your astute observations earned you a sub.
I'm quite sure that the drumming is a live recording. The drummer in the video was a recent addition to the band, and this video was created to introduce him. All of the vocal tracks included here are directly from the studio recording, although some of the layering found in the studio recording is left out of this one. The guitars here are quite a bit different from the studio recording, and as for bass, I'm not sure.
Even though these vocals are not a live performance, every band member, including Tati, is a great live music performer, and as you observed, Tati has the chops as a great front-person with tons of stage presence and charisma.
Newbies to metal are usually directed to Perennial live at Wacken 2019 as a second reaction, and that's worthwhile for you as well. But, you're obviously not a newbie, so you can go any which way. This band has a pretty deep & diverse catalogue of excellent music - enjoy!
I notice guitars on the wall behind you, and Jinjer's guitarist, Roman, is an awesome technical guitarist & riff monster who doesn't get nearly enough attention. I'd recommend a few double-features starting with guitar playthroughs:
Captain Clock guitar playthrough + Official Live (the official live has muddy guitar sound, but is a great showcase of Tati's chops as a frontperson)
I Speak Astronomy guitar playthrough + Official Music Video
Pit Of Consciousness guitar playthrough + Official Live (a tsunami of riffs!)
A Plus or a Minus guitar playthrough + Official Lyric Video (this is a deeper cut, but I really enjoy the guitar composition).
Cheers!
I assume the instruments are live recording
@@frankh9600 I think there's some guitar layering, though. Perhaps they recorded a live performance in this studio session & included the instrumental audio in the final product, & then recorded some additions, I'm not sure.
Guitar and bass perhaps if run DI, but drum and vocal mics would pick up bleed, which is the last thing you want for an album recording. obviously they can play the song live, but there is a level of multi tracking and isolation that cannot be achieved with everyone in the same room playing at once. this takes nothing away from this obviously amazing band and their producer. this is a fantastic sounding track
@@oldmanmetaldudeyou nailed it. There's an acoustic guitar layered on the album track in the "Neptune's child" interlude part, which is removed here. And they originally layered a scream over the high belt at the end. Otherwise I think it's pretty much the album tracks. With an interesting exception: at the very end, the album track has a phrase of four notes, then four notes. This version adds one note to the end--it's four notes, then five. Details that set it apart.
Eugene has a signature bass, an Achilles 5 Mark II from Overload, an Italian company. Roman has played ESP and has been an OD guitar artist for good bit, although I've heard he may have started playing Jackson recently. Tatiana is mostly self taught, vocal influences include Gwen Stefani for the cleans, and Otep and Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) in the harsh. An older song, redone in this live session to showcase their , new at the time, drummer Vlad.
Yeah Roman is endorsing Jackson now. He plays the purple one a lot live. It seems to be his main axe now.
The appreciation in this reaction…… Everyone waits for that first shock, but your reaction to that powerful belt towards the end was my favorite. She and honestly the whole band are impressive
I tend to suggest the live Napalm Records “Who is going to be the one?” Followed by “Words of wisdom.” I believe these were the first two songs from their set at Atlas Music Festival. There’s a bass run in who is going to be the one that I think you’d appreciate. In any event, you can’t go wrong with the other tracks that have been suggested. They’re all great.
I had to rub my eyes when I saw your sub count. Usually I except a/v sync issues, audio levels all over the place, crappy microphone etc. but none of those apply here. Really good work and you seem quite natural in front of camera - I guess wrestling career helps with that. Subbed and waiting for more Jinjer on this channel. You could check out a metal band which has once toured with Jinjer. Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars (live rehearsals @Sonic Pump Studios).
Cheers for the sub. Will definitely check out the song.
Wrestling career?!??? Please explain more. I'm really enjoying Old Man Metal Dude reactions....but would like to know more of the back-story! @Old Man, please give us some info, or point to other video you may already have explained some of this.
@@JS-TexanJeff Spent 5 years performing on the Australian wrestling scene (2005-2010) mainly for PWA Canberra but also for PWA Melbourne and UWA in Sydney. I was not very proficient as an in ring performer, but was decent at character work and found I could write decent storylines
@@oldmanmetaldudeTalent comes in all forms. You were obviously gifted with physical, as well as artistic talents! I'm jealous!!!! Appreciate the info! You're doing a great job with the reactions....that takes talent as well! Keep 'em coming!
There are a lot of good videos from Jinjer on UA-cam. Actually more than most channels even touch when going down the rabbit hole but it's hard to pick just a few. Eugene the bass player is always pretty prominent in their music. Judging by what you've said you could try Perennial Live at Wacken 2019, I Speak Astronomy, Who is Gonna be the One Live, Sit Stay Roll Over, Outlander Official Live at Loudfest. There's a lot of live stuff because the band has insane touring schedules sometimes eight month at a time with just a few weeks in the studio. There are also more drum playthroughs, guitar and bass playthroughs of their songs than I think I've ever seen a band do.
And the playthrough videos are colossal! You must check out every single one!
They never expected this particular track to go viral, they thought other tracks were more musically worthy but the internet wants what the internet wants. They have a very large body of work both live and studio. To me they don't have a bad song. I've been watching them develop since about 2011 when I first heard "Sit, stay, roll over" on a pirated video.
Vortex Official video
Jinjer and Tatiana shine in their live performances. I suggest "Perennial" live at Wacken for a follow up reaction. Good Analysis. (Subbed)
Appreciated! Perennial live at Wacken seems to be the most suggested follow up, so its going on the list for sure
No one does it quite like Jinjer. For one of their heaviest tunes performed Live I'd suggest "Sit, Stay, Roll Over - live in Melbourne". It was one of their last concerts just before COVID lockdowns hit us and it's a great showing of her growls.
Will check out their story for sure!
2:08 - No, they weren't playing to a recorded track. The original track is very different from this version, starting with the drums. There are also some different guitar parts in this one. What you see being played here on the guitar, bass and drums is what you're hearing. However, they added some guitar parts from the original to the final mix because they wanted this version to sound as close as possible it, except for the drums, obviously. The same happened with the vocals: what you're hearing is the original track from the album, with some more overdubs and parts removed. They weren't too concerned about doing it this way because the goal of this video was to showcase Vlad, the (new at the time) drummer, not the guitar, the bass or the vocals, but when reaction channels started reacting to this song, the focus immediately shifted to Tatiana and the video drifted away from its initial purpose to become all about the vocals.
Oh and before I forget, this is all explained in the video description, they weren't trying to hide anything or to deceive people. 🙂
15:15 - Oh boy, you couldn't be further away from the truth! This song was never composed to get attention or even to be a single, quite the contrary: it one of the least favourites of the band on the album and was only "ressurected" from oblivion because of the spin Vlad put on it that made the song come to life.
I am more than happy to admit I could be wrong about any/all things I say haha. I can only speak from my own experiences in that sound bleed is one of the studio's worst enemies.
As for the second part, It may not have been intentional, but it definitely ended up that way. I know countless bands ( a few of my own included, who's most popular song is one of the least liked by the band memebers ( such as Deep Purple loathing Smoke on the water, and Lemmy disliking Ace of Spades )
If you want to have your mind blown even more check out their performance of Perennial live at Wacken 2019
No one is expecting that 😉👌💯 Thanks for analysis and reaction.😊
"No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!"
I like your style and totally agree on this band. Looking at more myself.
Old man and fellow bassist here. Excellent knowledgeable reaction, instant sub cuz you're a bassist! Rock on brotha! Jazz bass guy I see. Same, though my main axes are Carvins, and a Warwick Corvette.
I know you wanna learn Eugene's bass line here. I highly recommend it. Dude is a monster. Thunderous yet subtle. Here the whole verse/B part is tapped, and it's beautiful man. I came up with Billy Sheehan, Stu Hamm, Victor Wooten, Tony Levin. I play the Chapman Stick as well. Eugene uses tapping brilliantly. His playing uses lots of subtechniques; he reminds me of Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne quite a bit. There's that thing where you anchor your thumb on the top edge of the fingerboard, with the fingers striking down onto the strings. John Entwistle of The Who used to do a thing like that. And Geddy.
You'll love all of Jinjer, I can already tell. You'll fall in love with all the musicians. They're so tight and groovy live. Perennial is great cuz it's instant confirmation that yes, Tatiana can pull that off live, and the performance is riveting. You can't go wrong from there.
But for sure check out the playthrough videos. The overall band sound is so complex and layered (there's almost never a moment when only one of them is playing at a time) and Tatiana's voice is so compelling, that it's easy to overlook the truly inspired composition and execution of each player's part. You'll be astounded by Roman's chord selection and right-hand dexterity (Hetfield, hold my beer!) and blown away by Vlad's unusual kit, open-handed style and ghost notes on the snare.
And Eugene. His tones are so brutal and nasty. His playing is unorthodox. He changes neck position a lot, changing strings unexpectedly and moving up and down more than across the neck. He plays with a Steve Harris-like attack, but often with three fingers on the plucking hand.
Try learning some of their songs. They are not easy! I'm no slouch, and it often takes me several days to get one of their songs under my fingers. It will expand your capabilities, I can almost guarantee it.
Jinjer is my favorite band since Rush retired. I was fortunate to see them live just 2-3 weeks after discovering them in November 22. They're dominant live. It was love at first sight/sound for me. I was like "Where has this band been all my life!" Enjoy the journey my friend! Welcome to the Jinjer Army!
I knew you'd love it 😄 Great songwriting, as you say.
How the he'll did she transition that voice change?? She has mastered vocal control. Blown away!
For someone who is really not a fan of metal (sorry) her voice is unbelievable, sultry and hypnotic to possessed. The ending was unreal, awesome and totally lost for words. The band are exceptional. Totally hooked! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for the reaction. I always enjoy watching musicians react because they have insights that others miss. Please react to Nightwish "Ghost Love Score" live from Wacken 2013.
My favorite band.
Love this band
You are very attentive. Assuming your shirt has a reason you should go to their prog-jazz metal djent ending masterpiece Vortex OMV.
If you are fascinated first by her singing versatility all in, go to Perennial Live Wacken Open Air 2019. There are two dozen other great recommendations by the jijnerhoard in the comments section 😅
I am definitely a prog fan so I will check out that Vortex!
obviously
it is live
You also need to check out *The Warning* - 3 sisters, classic rock that may veer into metal, grunge, punk, and other genres. 'Evolve' from the 2023 MTV VMAs, 'Disciple', 'Z', 'Queen of the Murder Scene', and 'S!CK' are all good places to start, or maybe the drummer singing lead on 'Dust to Dust' while still drumming.
If you like bass, you're going to love Eugene.
Subbed. Nice reaction mate! Check out some of the live shows. Who is gonna be the one Live is a good one to try next.
Check out Perennial live at Whacken. Welcome to the Jinjer rabbit hole. It’s deep. So many good songs.
Vortex. Teacher Teacher. Who’s Gonna Be The One. Wallflower. I Speak Astronomy.
If you want to hear a brilliant piece of audio engineering, listen to their live set in Melbourne march 2020. It's on the Napalm channel. It's brilliantly mixed, It might be the best sound quality I have heard from a live performance ever, certainly of a metal band.
My favorite is teacher teacher you should also check out the warning
Great reaction, thanks... I suggest you check out,
Teacher Teacher by Jinjer
Excellent review
incredible
Teacher Teacher !! Judgement and Punishment!!!
Hello from Switzerland 🇨🇭🙃 Here you have a selection of the songs in order of release year, always in live concert, festival, tour and music video versions. I hope you have fun discovering this great band, which I saw and heard live for the first time in 2012 and have heard almost twenty times since then! Greetings and have a lot of fun and enjoy the Jinjer Rabbit Hole 😁😉🤘🏼

The order compiled here is not 100% arranged like the album playlist, because sometimes there are no music videos, or they are not good enough quality for me to list here! I started adding to the list, step by step a few years ago with the available songs, qualities and release dates. I'll probably add to the list next year, i.e. more likely at the end / autumn of 2024 when Jinjer starts in the studio with the planned new album!
Wow that's an exhaustive list! Thanks! Another one of my favorites is the Metal Hellsinger video game soundtrack video. Tatiana is absolutely on fire on that track. The screaming it's insane!
Plz react to judgement punishment by jinjer. Great reaction btw keep it up
Love the first time reactions to this band, good on ya bloke. ;)
If you want something truly out of the metal space but just amazing, Don't Speak (cover) by Post Modern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhart. Classic 70's metal, Lay it on the Line by Triumph (live in 83). Death metal, Son's of Winter and Stars by Wintersun.
Thanks for the recommendations! will add them to the list for sure
Great reaction another band you would like is spiritbox circle with me 1 take version please
Jinjer has quickly become one of my favorite bands. Obviously Tati is a legend. She's a natural superstar. She's stunning...she sings like an angel...screams like a demon...her stage presence is absolutely top tier. But aside from her, the band is tight AF. Not to sell Roman (guitar) short, but especially Vlad (drums) and Eugene (bass) I think are criminally underrated.

Oh, about the lyrics. Not much discussion here. Tatiana's lyrics are great. She's one of my favorites since Neil Peart. Which is funny because as you'll see in interviews, she doesn't like writing lyrics, and doesn't think she's very good at it! She famously procrastinates until the absolute last minute inn writing lyrics. Often she's still writing them as they're recording the songs. She frequently writes in Russian, then translates into English.
Pisces is all about duality and contrast. Dark and light, yin and yang, soft and brutal. The zodiac sign is two fishes swimming in opposite directions. One being brings life, another runs for death.
It's also about duality in relationships. Vulnerable inside, but armor plated outside. Tatiana is very shy offstage. She's somewhat emotionally fragile, and her lyrics often deal with mental illness, depression, anxiety. Wait till you see the Wallflower video! But she clearly has her ways of expressing her power. The astonishing thing is how beautiful and expressive both her cleans and her harshes are. Her cleans are diva worthy, like Gwen Stefani or P!nk. Her uncleans are so versatile, so varied, so powerful and colorful.
Pisces for me symbolizes Tatiana's dual nature. I call her Captain Metal, because like Captain Marvel, she's the most powerful superhero in the MCU (Metal Crooning Universe). She comes complete with mild-mannered offstage alter ego. Then she transforms onstage into a roaring beast! Pisces encapsulates that lyrically. Scale armor: blaze! Flame on!
I’d like to see and hear your thoughts and opinion on LORNA SHORE ~ To The Hellfire. Give it a try.
Jinjer suprised me and love that you appreciated the Bass line. If you really like Bass you need to check out a group that has been described as Musicians for Musicians - Dirty Loops. Henrik Linder is probably the best bass player in the world and the other two members are astonishing. You will not be disappointed.
I have heard 1 track by them, and yes they are extremely talented, this gives me an excuse to check out more of their stuff 👍
@@oldmanmetaldude Henrik on Bass features on their latest release.
Given what you said about the songwriting it would be interesting to see what you make of Be'lakor, if you aren't already familiar with them. They're based out of Melbourne if I remember right. Can't really go wrong with any of their songs, imo. Excellent Melodeath with a good dose of progressive elements to the songs. They typically avoid tedious verse/chorus/verse/chorus formatting and are crammed with excellent riffs, melodies and atmosphere throughout.
I seem to recall seeing Be'lakor live sometime around 2015/16 but to be honest don't remember much about them so am more than happy to revisit their stuff
If you haven't already seen it, you should check out Unleash the Archers - Awakening. Should be right up your alley.
Now that you mention it, I should! They are playing at my local venue in a few months, so I should do a few of their videos and try to get a quick interview with them
I’d love to see you react to Ren - Hi Ren. It’s a long one but it’s well worth it.
I'll add it to the list
Thanks for the suggestion, can't than you enough for introducing me to Rens work
@@oldmanmetaldude my pleasure my friend. I’m just glad you appreciate his talent like I do. Keep making your amazing content!!
Listen perennial live at Wacken 2019 🤘!
I have gotten numerous requests for this one, So it will likely be my next Jinjer react.
Watch you with ren now jinjer
Another rabbit hole you should traverse is complete. Start with jordan then do taxi
Written by Eugene, the bassist
One of the best live performances of Jinjer would have to be Pit of Consciousness live Kiev from 2019 in Ukraine before the invasion
I’m far from an expert but can’t a good sound engineer with a top notch sound board isolate the microphone and remove the bleed over, just a thought and of course there are post engineering also.
Next one check out vortex
you should check out Babymetal, Hanabie, Lovebites, One ok Rock. They are all huge and will help blow your channel up :) Amazing music too.
Gotta love f'ing YT, go to the trouble to get you all the bass info, type it all out, get you some links and they dump my comment out. YT is such BS....
I've had that happen. Sucks. Are you a bassist? I am. Love Eugene's Overdrive basses. I have a Warwick Corvette much like the one Eugene used to use. Mine is an FNA, with the Music Man style pickup.
@@ericpeterson7512 I "dabble" when I need to with an old P-bass but, no, I'm 62, a 45 yr guitarist with a studio and waaaaayyy too many guitars (16 at present)! Haven't played in nearly a year since I mulched my left forefinger, so I'm "jonesing" hard watching the Maids and can't play. Most of the swelling is gone now so working on flexing the tendons. Might try using the P as an exerciser...

Fake reaction. He talked about what a good idea going back into cleans was, before she went back into the cleans.
Did you ever think that perhaps it was a call made on years of songwriting experience before throwing out accusations to seem edgy?
The musicality of Jinjer is off the charts. Believe it or not, this is one of their weaker songs
You're constant pausing makes this unwatchable.
I am sorry you feel this way, I thought it better than trying to talk over the music
@@oldmanmetaldude There is a balance, my friend. I hope you find it.
@@Dumaski that is a fair point, as I've said, I am new to this and am happy to listen to any fair feedback and improve
@@oldmanmetaldude Good luck to you.
It’s a reaction ! Get over it 🙄
Definitely catch “Perennial “live at Wacken 2019
done and done :)
