If you wanna check out more see
    Live- perinneal live at waken
One take - judgement and punishment
Hip hop vibes - teacher teacher
    Emotional - wallflower
Emotional and great story telling video of when they were first invaded by Russia in 2014 - home back
As for her voice, anyone can sound like that, it's all false fold work. She's a queen live and has the sweetest most high pitch speaking voice 😆

I have loved this band for 5 years!!!!!!!! I've been a musician myself for over 40 years, but you might hear a band like this maybe every decade... Jinjer does his own thing musically. For Jinjer you need time, patience, sometimes you feel overwhelmed as a listener... just fantastic!
Thanx for your reaction and see you soon!

They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where the fighting started in 2014. Her name is Tatiana, and is mostly self taught, with influences including Gwen Stefani and for harsh, Otep and Randy Blythe(Lamb of God).
Glad you mentioned the drummer, Vlad. This live session was done to showcase him as he had joined not long before this. But it went viral because of her voicals. He is classically trained on piano, and self taught on drums. He , Roman (guitar), and Eugene (bass) are all awesome musicians. They write the music, and Tati writes most of the lyrics. The guys were stuck in Kiev when the current fighting started, but were allowed to leave last summer to tour and be ambassadors for Ukraine.
The song is called Pisces(Pie-sez) , as in the astrological sign. Tati and Eugene are both Pisces, he helped her out with the lyrics on this song.
Vortex is an awesome song from the most recent album, Wallflowers. Home back is about the fighting in their homeland in 2014. And if you want to see her live, try Perennial at Wacken 2019 or Pit of Consciousness in Kiev.

You asked so here you go. Enjoy the ride:
    “Perennial” Live at Wacken.
    “Teacher Teacher” OMV.
“Who is Gonna be the One” live.
    “I Speak Astronomy” OMV.
“Pit of Consciousness” live in Kiev.
    “Wallflower” OMV.
    “Retrospection” live or OMV.
    “Vortex” OMV.
“Captain Clock” live at Resurrection Fest.
    “Outlander” OMV (Baby Jinjer)
    “Sit Stay Roll Over” OMV.
    “Disclosure” OMV.
“Judgement and Punishment” one take vocal performance.

Jinjer formed in Horlivka, north of Donezk in eastern Ukraine. Band members changed a lot until the current team formed
    Tatiana - lead singer
    Eugene - bass
    Roman - guitar
    Vlad - drums
When hostilities started in 2014 they left for Kiew, which has been their base since then.
Tatiana once said in an interview that she started experimenting with vocal fry when she was 11. She is self-taught.

Jinjer truly is the best at what they do. And while I love a lot of female led metal bands, Tatiana has the best depth to her growls and is honestly better than a huge chunk of male screamers. Be sure to check out "Perennial" live at Wacken, "Judgement and Punishment" one take, "Homeback" and "Teacher, Teacher". They blend grooves and genres seamlessly. Can't wait to see more

Tatiana has excellent diction no matter what she's doing. There is a bit of production on her voice, but it's fairly obvious. There's a second growl in there at certain parts, plus there's a whisper track under the third verse and final growling part. It's not a big deal as I'm sure it's still all her, but I thought it worth pointing out. Also, I've been listening to The Agonist since they began and to Arch Enemy since "Wages of Sin," so I've been desensitized to the shock of a woman growling and/or switching between growling and cleans. It's still fun to see other people react to it, though.

The singer is Tatiana Shmayluk. Jinjer is well known to be amazing live. Good examples are Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air, Outlander Official Live at Loudfest, Captain Clock Live at Resurrection Fest, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kyiv, Cloud Factory Official Live, Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal.
They are actually touring with Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin this summer in the US. Jinjer is from Ukraine. They started with Tatiana around 2009. None of the original members are with the band although many of the former members do work work with them on things and appear in videos. This video and version of the song was done to introduce their current drummer. The song itself is from their King of Everything album which was recorded with their previous drummer. Virtually every song from that album has some sort of video and all of them are really good. Vortex, Call Me a Symbol, Mediator and Wallflower are all from their newest album. Some good older songs would be No Hoard of Value, Who is Gonna be the One, Plus or Minus. Another popular song of theirs is Teacher Teacher.

If you listen to it again reading lyrics you'll see how it is all together about the dual nature of Pisces (not pieces).

My first time hearing this I thought it sounded like something from a jazz club lol. Every Jinjer song has a different combination of elements, and this one just happens to be perfect for trolling the unsuspecting. There is some doubling of the growls which makes them more shocking but fundamentally yeah that's Tatiana's false cord growls. Crazy thing is, these aren't even her low growls, just a bit lower than her default growling tone.
She specifically wanted nobody to be able to say she growled like a girl so though Otep inspired her to learn, Randy Blythe was her primary influence as a growler. Also she has a rather low speaking voice, and quite a prominent tomboy side that I feel she expresses through her growls. And at the point this was made she'd been practicing those growls for something like 15 years. After this blew up they stopped editing her growls in live videos because of the greater scrutiny they began to get. They were basically nobodies before this hit the reaction channels.
All that said, I've seen them twice and the first time, I was standing next to a stack of speakers and her low growls shook every cell in my body. Perennial live at Wacken is the usual next stop. Who Is Gonna Be The One official live focuses on her growls including low range, and is one of the least-edited of their top-quality live recordings. There's also a high-quality bootleg of a show at some event at Whiskey A GoGo with Tatiana and musicians from different bands covering Lamb Of God's Laid To Rest if you just want some evidence. Lots of other bootlegs too and while they are highly rehearsed, there are slight differences between them. (I was 12 or 13 when Milli Vanilli were exposed and I'd never been an all-in fan of a group before, so I had to do due diligence before letting myself take the plunge - heh)
Jinjer is Tatiana's 8th band, and she had a side project Latin band for a while as #9 during Jinjer's early days (if you search "vidcerts tatiana jinjer nirvana" there's a fun 22 minute video of her singing latin-infused Nirvana covers that are fire) before they were forced to leave their hometown by the 2014 war that set the stage for the current invasion. Home Back is about their hometown being caught in that war and "we want our home back" has become a refrain for them since the invasion. After being inspired to get serious about singing Tati basically started singing with every local band that would let her to gain experience, and says at one time she was singing with 4 bands. There's always been metal and alt rock in the mix but her musical interests and performance experience cross a wide gamut of genres.
Call Me A Symbol and Vortex are from their newest album which is my favorite of theirs. I can see an arguement in favor of the more stripped-back editing on Micro and Macro which is closer to their live sound and which was necessitated by limited time between constant tours. Wallflowers was produced during lockdown so they had nothing but time.
None of the original members are still with the band. Ukraine is a hard place to make it as a professional musician and even moreso in metal. It seems like only those who wouldn't or couldn't bear to do anything else made it. One of the former members is an actor now and played an interrogating cop in their video Discosure, and a journalist who was going to interview Tati ran into their former vocalist Maksym hanging out on their bus in L.A. Jinjer has opened for Slipknot and is opening for Disturbed this summer.
They have a new album coming out later this year that has perhaps the most metal genesis of an album ever, with the guys beginning to compose the music while trapped in Kyiv under siege during the early months of the invasion. I don't know if the songs will have anything to do with the war though, as Tatiana says she doesn't feel like she can talk about it yet.

Full-on beast mode! Tatiana (vocalist) spent a lot of time and effort learning how to get a deeper, fruitier sound - and it has paid off. She's amazing but don't let that blind you to the rest of the band, all of them are top notch musicians. Unusually, they are so tight and practiced that they can do this stuff live too. Tati is the main lyricist (99%) and the stories she tells are always moving and passionate.
People will point you at the "Perennial live at Wacken" OMV but if you want art videos with your music, try "Wallflower" OMV and "Vortex" OMV. Both very high quality video productions. This is a band that cares about every part of the experience.

I love how the band sets you up. You see this waif of a woman, cute as can be, with this gorgeous pop voice, singing over a band playing a jazzy kind of song. And then someone throws a switch and you see a feral woman emerge, angry and ferocious, a complete change- and then back to pop and again to growl, only angrier- and finally to that wild explosion with the huge belt and final shriek. Tatiana Shmayluk is the singer, and has been with band from early on- though none of the musicians were there at the beginning except her.

  • @jackgilchrist
    @jackgilchrist Рік тому +1

She's better at screams and growls than most males, imo. She doesn't just do the typical, almost emotionless "demonic" or purely angry growls. Her growls and screams have power and feeling, more like a wild predator (bear, big cat) than a "demon." I think that quality of her distorted vocals comes from her femininity.
Her distorted vocals also have serious range. She can go from a super low death growl to a beautiful high pitched scream, and slide into those different pitches.
And her clean vocals are very versatile. Here she's doing more of a "pop" style vocal, and it's great but maybe a bit more mundane compared to a lot of their stuff (until the belt at the end). She can do a beautiful haunting melodic voice, she can rap, do a reggae voice in a similar vein to Gwen Stephanie or Amy Winehouse, etc. She has great breath control, can do stunning melismas, and can switch between clean and distorted on a dime (check out the live at Wacken version of Perennial).
And let's not forget Tatiana's lyrics. She's got serious poetic chops and her lyrics are often inspired.
She is amazing, and so is the band. They are maybe the best musicians in any modern(ish) metal band I've heard. They are certainly on a short list.

Actually she's not the 1st female growler in metal music. The 1st one was way back in the early 80s and her name is Sabina Classen from the thrash metal band called Holy Moses. The 2nd one is Lori Bravo from the mid 80s grindcore band called Nuclear Death.

Brother, nice reaction. Tatiana (Shmailuk) is my gurl, but I wouldn't want to see her mad! Haha. Two things: have you ever listened to Ningen Isu, a japanese three piece band that is making music for almost 30 years. Check out Heartless Scat. The second thing: Jinjer is from Ukraine. When I went to Kyiv in August 2021, my mission was to try to meet or visit either Jinjer or Ignea (not sure if you heard of them). They are based in Kyiv, so I was lucky enough to meet them in my hotel in Kyiv. My profile photo is of me with Helle and Evgeny of Ignea. Unfortuunately Jinjer toured in Finland when I was there, so obviously I couldn't catch them. The Ignea song to start of with will be Alga with a full orchestra. Keep going, cheers from a cold and wet South Africa.

Drums have heads(the skin) and bodies. The clacking on the body rim is commonly referred to as a 'ghost note'.

Might I suggest another band that brings a very unique cultural vibe to metal. Check out a band called "Bloodywood". I would say either Machi Bhasad or Aaj. Machi Bhasad is the song that really got them noticed and Aaj is a more refined yet just as wicked of a song as every other song on their album. In my opinion they do not get enough radio love here in the states but they are an amazing band and each song has a very special meaning behind it.
Fun fact: Bloodywood started as a 2 man metal parody style band like Leo Moracchioli of Frog Leap Studios.

I've seen 3 other people react to this song (The Charismatic Voice, Julia Nilon, Ken Lavigne), and they all started freaking out when Tatiana starts screaming. Everybody does. 😂 Edit: yes, that's her real voice. She's using her false chords to achieve that sound. This is the end result of several years of practice - she said that she started out by screaming at other cars, and was disappointed by how much she sucked at it.
They also typically freaked out at how easily she could switch between harsh and clean vocals, and how high she could sing.

The thing on the drum is called a "rimshot" - played correctly, the rim is hit simultaneously with the head (or "skin" is a common word for the same thing). By hitting both, the sound of the rim being hit gets transferred to the head, which resonates and amplifies the tone from the rim while adding the head's own resonance. Much the same sound can be obtained by laying one end of the stick on the head and pivoting at that contact to strike the rim. This is a bit easier to be consistent, but it takes a moment to rest the stick - often creating an unwanted sound. Thus, a good drummer will be well enough practiced to get that simultaneous rim + head strike consistently, only using the second method when the song allows the extra time. In this case, Vlad had the time, and used the second method.

I was little busy lately, that's why I'm making this comment so late. 😅am a huge fan of Jinjer and Tatiana- lead female singer from this band- for sure some years were needed for her to master her growls! I always like to point out sentences from each song of Jinjer that are connecting very much with my heart. 8:42 "Don't rely on me, I won't deceive. The beginning or the end, You can't tell when I wave my fin and shake my tail"- this song clearly speaks about the people who were born during the Zodiac of Fishes (even Tatiana is singing about herself), still this characteristic of Fishes I can see in myself. Some people might be deceiving those who are relying on those people. They might "wave their fin and shake their tail", and become somewhat different. 😆Great reaction! 😃
