  • Speedrunning is a pursuit of perfection. The goal is the best run possible by any means necessary. But what if things go too far?

To be fair, if someone claims to have beaten a record, but rather than give you the video of them doing it they instead give the video to their friends and have their friends comment on it, that's gonna smell really fishy.

Dude, the transitions between topics were insanely smooth in this video! Also I never would have expected to see chess, language AND music covered in a single speedrunning video.

At first I was like "man, he's not even talking about people literally cooking their NES for speedruns, nothing can be "going too far" more than this".
But no, the dude speedrunning his daughter life "birth to prodigy" definitively takes the cake...

Pushing down on a circuitboard to freeze an in-game timer is ridiculous
Opening the tray and taking the game out I don't see as that big of a deal.
Mostly because taking a disk out is something anyone can easily do, whereas modifying a second controller requires a bit more effort. Plus it doesn't actually save any time, it just manipulates the game timer to not count time spent waiting.

Yeah the open tray thing seems fine since it’s easy to tell what’s going on when someone is performing the glitch

    • @marcosdheleno
      @marcosdheleno Рік тому +4

@@lt_johnmcclane its not even that's easy to tell, but its something that has no issues for runners. they dont require external or added components to do it. all they need is original hardware and the game.

14:44 how is that a draaw? Black is literally 2 moves from checkmate.
Wait till the white king moves one square own and to the left of the pawn
    black king to f3
    movie the pawn to h2
leave the black king on f3
either the white king moves left and you move the pawn down to the bottom and exchange for a queen, or the white king stays In the bottom right
    checkmate on white.

Controversial opinion? While I believe crank that speed running is innovative. I genuinely believe the concept of the category mostly invalidates itself.
It would be like calling how long it takes me to get ready in the morning a speed running event. There were multiple competitors I definitely have the fastest time though and hey if I sleep dressed for the day but go nowhere that might be a world record. 😅

I appreciate seeing a video essay on speedrunning that isn't literally just Pokemon, LoZ, Mario, and whatever other usual suspects are ALWAYS talked about, especially if it's about TAS's.
TAS's fascinate me, but some of the wackier ones like Sonic Heroes and Scribblenauts Unlimited go without fanfare.

not to be an assahole, I loved this video, but your statements about music being universal between cultures at the end are kinda inaccurate especially within context. Western music theory gets treated as this transcendent framework (thanks imperialism) but in reality its just what the vast majority are used to. Many cultures developed completely different harmonic systems and a lot of those systems were invalidated by elitist music theory twats. Frequency ratios that exist in other cultures are simply not represented in western harmonic theory and thats just a surface level example. This extends to nearly every part of music, with many other systems even relying on concepts that aren't recognized at all.
