A very important piece of news. Those companies that set the standards in an industry have a huge leg up from day one similar to patent protection. If Germany standardizes battery swap in conjunction with Nio there is a decent chance other EU countries will adopt its standards to save time and money. This could also possibly get China to make the same move which they seem to be dragging their feet on. That is what allowed CATL to sneak in....
In my opinion, China does not like 1 company to have monopoly even if they might have a preference on a company. I think that's smart but i also believe there is room for both. Plus NIO has the superior product and experience.
You could be right and it does make sense if true. Regardless, it's an open issue in China that needs to be finalized. I would like to see them announce a desire to do this sooner than later so those involved now as well as those interested in participating later don't waste time and money going in too many different directions. Nio now has the most to lose if the govt says thanks for your commitment but we like CATL's solution better...

Thanks for sharing your views on EV batteries standardization. Sounds like the Germans' involvement in EV batteries technology and standardization will be a good result for all of us. I think China definitely needs more international help with EV batteries. German engineering is already behind NIO's designs.
Stations need to be capable of dealing with different voltage batteries, currently most EVs use ~400v system, but newer models are using 800 or 900v systems to enable faster charging.

Qin Shi Huang was the first emperor of China, he standardized the length of all wagon axles so they would fit in the ruts in the roads across the country and so that replacing one if it broke in a far flung part of the country replacing it would not be difficult. This was 200BC.

I think that Nio has the best offer or can save the German auto industry! HOW??? Germany could always produce super cars and could be competitive "because with this" we would solve the biggest problem with the competitive price of battery production so that we would be co-owners of charging stations (NIO) in Germany and we would get rid of the COMPETITION of batteries that they do not have to compete with at least China, as well as the rest of the world! The rule in BUSINESS is if you do not HAVE to compete, you will be outdone otherwise the competition will eat you up! Simply sell vehicles without a battery Or according to the buyer's wishes! IN THE SAME WAY AS NIO.. This would solve a big problem and we would get an open door in the Chinese market because Nio is the leader in China when we talk about charging stations in China and I think that the German industry must have a leader as a partner NIO because they know how important this is. This is good news for NIO investors, but I was surprised because some of the other swap companies you talked about can do battery swaps much faster. I am talking about the time to swap after being locked in position within the bay. I think NIO are about 2 mins, 30? Aulton are just 20 seconds. The swapping techniques they use are different from NIO, for instance they use dual bays on each side of the vehicle, so that as the battery is being extracted and loaded into one side bay, the bay at the other side already has the new battery in position ready to load in. In addition, they use a clip on / clip lock battery method rather than bolts that have to be unscrewed / screwed in again. Of course, they don't do post battery swap checks as NIO do. If they did it would take longer than 20 seconds. Anyone know how long that part takes in the NIO swap? But yes, a universal standard would be great.

Ultimately consumers will decide. There is a premium fee to consumers to pay for battery swapping over time. If consumers primarily buy battery swap cars, all manufactures will adopt swap. Just like how all manufactures in U.S. are adopting NACS because consumers want the Tesla charging station. Personally, I would pay that premium for battery swap, but I have disposable income to do so

All I was thinking was that since chips are on everyone's brain here in the States NIO could make it more commonly known that on top of all their car-making battery swapping achievements they also developed a very efficient chip.
