yes! U know what: these holiday days/week till jan 6th or so are a perfect time to write/call our elected rep's!!!!!!!!!!!! Ukr needs the a massive help so they can push any strategic plans they may have to make headway , e.g. in the south, which is proably their only potentially advantageous spot at this point. Of course ideally a coalition of the willing would provide a LOT of air power to make it all happen! If we did, there's NOTHING Ru could do about it. nothing! (and they'd never use a Nuke bcuz of it even tho they'd lose a lot of equipment and perhaps men, bcuz they're not suicidal AT ALL, and they're very accustomed to losing a lot of stuff/men, as they have in every single war since their really bad results in all wars since mid 1800's at least. (btw my ideas dn't come from nowhere: i've studied a lot of history and other factors of international politics/affairs, including from really bright minded professionals both in academia at the highest caliber institutions, and org's like the UNDP, e.g.

I'd also suggest outgoing Lithuanian defence minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas. He's a rare personality, a conservative that is respected by liberals, too. Very active, no-nonsense sort of person. He managed to do more in seven months than a lot of politicians do in their entire careers. I saw him on a small military channel, he could easily have said "I'm busy and this channel only has a couple thousand followers." Russian speakers have had the right to speak their language and even educate their children in Russian. What it’s led to is serious internal divisions and potential security risks. In the case of the Baltics, many Russians have not integrated at all - to the point that they do not know the language of the country they live in. Some are fully brainwashed by Russian propaganda and spread misinformation. In Ukraine, Russians speakers still have no problem living and working in the Russian language. Their very existence, however, led to one of Putin’s main reasons to invade: to protect Russian speakers. He then proceeded to destroy their cities, rape and murder them and kidnap their children.

As a Lithuanian I feel very torn about this acknowledgement. The reason is that this man is last or close to that in the public confidence rankings as of November 2024, which means that Lithuania hates him. Our president Nausėda despises this man and our parliamentary elections campaign was pretty much about who's gonna criticise the party this man led more, that's it. The ones who denegrated this man and his colleagues the most, won big.
I personally find him the best politician of the past parliamentary cycle and the party he led, despite me having many disagreement with them, did a brilliant job, all things considered. But thing is, Lithuania, despite our insane democratic and economic progress since the nineties, is full of ressentiment, even among young people, and Landsbergis and people like him, the party he led are the scapegoats. Furthermore, we are highly susceptible to post-truth populism. Democracy is fracturing all over the Western world due to the same reason. Situation in Lithuania is not as bad as in some other democratic (or formerly democratic - like Hungary) Western states, but it's pretty bad, to be frank.

Trust me, you probably wouldn't. He is hands down the most disliked politician in Lithuania and for some good reasons. Yes, he can repeat some phrases about supporting Ukraine and opposing Russia but his understanding is superficial, basic and only used for his own personal PR stunts i.e. talking but not actually doing much. His political party was pretty much annihilated in the recent Parliamentary election and for some good reasons, too. Most Lithuanians are very happy to see him disappear from the political field of Lithuania.

@@Randomcliff01 It's true...neither Orban nor Fico nor any populist is liked by the younger generation...the same goes for Duda in Poland, Vucic in Serbia, Lukashenko on Belarus. And it goes further than just younger generation...most of those who support populists like these and many others live in rural areas, and not in larger Urban centres. The vast majority of Babis's support here in Czech Republic came/comes from people in Rural Czech Rep. And there is a very good chance he will get back but only by teaming up with the KSC (the Communist Party) of which without their support he could not win. All Populists (Including Trump) feed on the uneducated, easily misinformed, non critical thinking, racist, fear ridden demographic...people who blame everything but themselves for their plight. It's an age old playbook. Thankfully Poland turned things around recently...I dont know if Hungary can....Orban has rigged the game to the point where it will be very difficult to have a change in regime there. He cant go as far as Lukashenko or Putin...but make no mistake, he has rigged the game. Fico is a fool and not nearly as intelligent as Orban, so maybe there is a chance to oust him, but intelligent Slovaks face the same challenge as intelligent Hungarians....just as we do here in Czech Rep...as Americans do...well as pretty much every nation. This is also seen in men like Soloyov (tv guy) who flipped from being very normal/reasonable to a psychopath within a few years. The artificial nature of some russian personalities is absolutely breath-taking. So i would not be too bothered at this point by PooTin's confidence.
