No, he should be condemned for his warmongering. Lithuania is like a little brother who seeks to drag his older brother into a fight. Lithuania has at no point sought a good relationship with Russia.
In these times of incredibly shortsighted and damaging indecision, it gives me some hope and joy to have people with such clarity of vision and a fully functioning moral compass in the corridors of power.

Belgian here. We don’t only lack a military deterrent. More importantly: we are lacking a political deterrent. If, say, the American people would start a preemptive Maidan event before Trump’s inauguration, America would establish exactly such deterrent.
Not so sure about Slovakia, their prime minister doesn't have as wide a following as Orbán does. There have been protests ever since he was elected. He's very careful not to confront anyone too much.
@@Randomcliff01 It's true...neither Orban nor Fico nor any populist is liked by the younger generation...the same goes for Duda in Poland, Vucic in Serbia, Lukashenko on Belarus. The vast majority of Babis's support here in Czech Republic came/comes from people in Rural Czech Rep. And there is a very good chance he will get back but only by teaming up with the KSC (the Communist Party) of which without their support he could not win. What it is doing now. Grinding Ukraine and NATO. But with extra surge of 25 millions in manpower. Cause this mindset "there is no world without Russia" will kick in.
If Russia ends up unraveling (quite possible), it doesn't necessarily mean that the nuclear weapons will be distributed among 20 or so different new entities. These weapons are located in only a couple of places, under strict surveillance. Most likely just one or two heirs of Russia will hold on to them. Another scenario is that the Ukrainian army can enter Russia and seize them.

@@k.squared Yes, unfortunately, it's a worldwide phenomenon. Canada is deep into both woke and right wing populist extremism. Seems that a weakening and inconsistent education system, social media as well as a huge increase in propaganda are at the root of a lot of it.
Why do you thank him????because he talk tough against Russia???talk is cheap that's what they do, what's stopping him to send his army in Ukraine???i tell you what, the unholy fear of what Russia will do to them,so they all just talk
@@dimitrisgregan553 Nonsense. He did all he could to influence things in Ukraine's favor. And politicians talk, that's their main job. They can also do something if they manage to convince their supporters of that something thanks to their... talk. Nobody in a democracy can send the army anywhere, if there's no support for that, and, in this case, we are talking not only about national support, but about international agreements. But sure, magical thinking and oversimplification make life much easier, so I fully understand your position.
Absolutely agree with Mr Landsbergis. Huge pleasure and appreciation to listen to both of you Jonathan! Slava Ukraini ! Thank you, Lithuania ! 🇺🇦👏✌️❤️
Young and wise politician! Marry Christmas everyone!Glory to brave people of Ukraine 🇺🇦!
Mr. Landsbergis has been a consistent strong supporter of Ukraine. I'm so glad to see him here.
me too
But not a supporter of Lithuania people. 😂
Among all the often weak democratic politicians, Mr #Landsbergis was a beacon of decency, clear reasoning and determination - the kind of politicians we miss so much in the West. I hope we will hear from Landsbergis again and again. My hope rests on the great Baltic states.
Wonderful Christmas conversation, thank you so much! Gabrielius is awesome - hopefully, he sticks around in the A league of politics, he is so needed. He needs to continue to fight.
Excellent interview! Very thoughful, insightful guest! Please have more of this type of guests in the future! The Baltic voices must be listened to with regards to this topic.
Merry Christmas, great job Landsbergis at the Helsinki Commission as well in this interview ❤
These are the people the collective West should be listening to.
West cant get over the fact that they are out of their depth when it comes to russia and refuses to listen to actual russia's neighbors.
Instead, they listened to Scholz’s inner cowardice demon, Merkel’s Russian-cum-filled mouth, Macron’s empty words, and Jake Sullivan who listens to Putin like gospel.

…Landsbergis is brilliant.
Great interview and topic. Happy Holidays Jonathan!
Voices like this must be heard and understood all over Europe until awareness is widerspread.

Gabrielius Landsbergis is an amazing figure. One of the best Western World leaders.
I love your pfp!
And back at home people hates him , because of arrogance and now his wifes shady dealings.he’s true mor on
He is no longer a politician. Internal forces did not allow him to occupy serious positions in the West. Including the president. A big loss for the country.

Minute 9: I agree 100%! Thanks for this, umpteenth excellent interview. Happy Christmas Jonathan, - I hope Ukraine receives the best present ever : JUST PEACE, without giving up territory and as soon as peace is won, immediate NATO membership.
A strong, wise politician. All his "tribe" were and are outstanding influencers throughout a couple of centuries. Five or six generations. Respect !
Jonathan, this interview was fab! Loads of respect for such an epic guest and great questions! Happy Christmas!.
The continued Bucha testament of continued genocide in all the occupied territories of Ukraine has been playing on my mind. My conscience is unable to accept a passive response..

Thank you, Jonathan, excellent as usual! Gabrielius is a particular hero of mine. I wish we had some like him in Canada.
👍👍👍🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
Trust me, you probably wouldn't. He is hands down the most disliked politician in Lithuania and for some good reasons. Yes, he can repeat some phrases about supporting Ukraine and opposing Russia but his understanding is superficial, basic and only used for his own personal PR stunts i.e. talking but not actually doing much. His political party was pretty much annihilated in the recent Parliamentary election and for some good reasons, too. Most Lithuanians are very happy to see him disappear from the political field of Lithuania.
@@DS.J Thanks for the info. I don't really follow Lithuanian politics and have been basing my opinion solely on his out-spoken support for Ukraine. It's good to be fact-checked by someone with a more well-rounded view.

@@susansprague7304don't listen to him, it's just his opinion. Gabrielius is a well known polititian and of course has some haters. However, these haters are typically right wing, poorly educated, from rural areas and often pro-russian. Well educated Lithuanians typically support Gabrielius.

Ah yes, Lansbergis... one of the most hated families in lithuania by russian supporters, yet increadibly important in our foreign relations and our fight for freedom
Those Lithuanian haters of Landsberigs are oftentimes idiots that are having a hard time telling their left hand from the right. If you ask them WHY they hate Landsbergis, you will never get any explanation. They just know anything Landsbergis is bad.

In the 80s Nato practised deploying 700,000 troops to the Inner German border within hours. 8 army corps. 3 x US 3 x German 1 British and I Dutch.
49:10 A few weeks before Ukraine regained its independence, George W. Bush gave a speech in the Ukrainian parliament and urged Ukrainians not to fight for their independence and to remain part of the USSR. He called the Ukrainians' aspirations "suicidal nationalism" that the United States would never support. His speech is known as the "Chicken Kyiv speech".

Belgian here. We don’t only lack a military deterrent. More importantly: we are lacking a political deterrent.
If, say, the American people would start a preemptive Maidan event before Trump’s inauguration, America would establish exactly such deterrent.

Not to mention The pair of Trojan Horses NATO and Europe have in Hungary and Slovakia
Not so sure about Slovakia, their prime minister doesn't have as wide a following as Orbán does. There have been protests ever since he was elected. He's very careful not to confront anyone too much.

How about Germany?
@@guciodestroyer2432 well there is a point to made there...
@@Randomcliff01 It's true...neither Orban nor Fico nor any populist is liked by the younger generation...the same goes for Duda in Poland, Vucic in Serbia, Lukashenko on Belarus. And it goes further than just younger generation...most of those who support populists like these and many others live in rural areas, and not in larger Urban centres. The vast majority of Babis's support here in Czech Republic came/comes from people in Rural Czech Rep. And there is a very good chance he will get back but only by teaming up with the KSC (the Communist Party) of which without their support he could not win. All Populists (Including Trump) feed on the uneducated, easily misinformed, non critical thinking, racist, fear ridden demographic...people who blame everything but themselves for their plight. It's an age old playbook. Thankfully Poland turned things around recently...I dont know if Hungary can....Orban has rigged the game to the point where it will be very difficult to have a change in regime there. He cant go as far as Lukashenko or Putin...but make no mistake, he has rigged the game. Fico is a fool and not nearly as intelligent as Orban, so maybe there is a chance to oust him, but intelligent Slovaks face the same challenge as intelligent Hungarians....just as we do here in Czech Rep...as Americans do...well as pretty much every nation. Fascism begins where thinking ends.

NATO goes into Ukraine with air cover or land defence forces what can Russia do?
Nothing. Only more threats and blackmailing.
I hope Europeans are not dumb and self-sabotaging enough to want to find out.
What can Russia do nothing
What it is doing now. Grinding Ukraine and NATO. But with extra surge of 25 millions in manpower. Cause this mindset "there is no world without Russia" will kick in.
I'm sure you are ready to go
Gabrielus Landsbergis, a man in a million.
Said weapons
also require knowledgeable maintenance

Gabrielius Landsbergis is one of the brightest minds in the European sky. I think world leaders must listen to the opinions of the Baltic countries and Poland, because we speak from a long and sad experience of living with Russia on the sidelines. And this is not Russophobia. This is a logical mind, self-preservation and the desire to live safely in this world and have normal neighbors (Russia, Belarus).

Sadly, I wonder if NATO will confront Putin with WW3 if he rolls into the Baltic States for their ports?
NATO probably won't, but there are a couple of nations who might respond, like Poland or Finland. And their militaries are forces to be reckoned with.

Those people are the hope for the mankind
Jonathan, yeah i agree that PooTin's confidence is unnerving, BUT keep in mind how the psychopath's mind works, and how the more-eastern mind's pride works, i.e saving face. It's like an actor. This is also seen in men like Soloyov (tv guy) who flipped from being very normal/reasonable to a psychopath within a few years. The artificial nature of some russian personalities is absolutely breath-taking. So i would not be too bothered at this point by PooTin's confidence. It doesn't really mean he's confident in the sense that we think of it.
Most of russian population is psychopatic, its not correct to state that single person caused all this, every russian is as respomsible as putin.
omg, Soviet Union (ruzzians) actually defined as East Europe (and not only Europe to be honest) has been working for decades, and their influence didn't disappear till now. 'Cmon you guys! You just saw it now? Concrats. Really.
