Hey, Harris, when are you next going live, buddy?
Signed up for Sizzle, but haven't entered the giveaway yet.
I'd LOVE to use Vertical, and I've gone so far as to download it. But my hardware just can't handle it, even with a dual-PC setup since both are so old. One of them doesn't even support DDR4, if that tells you anything. So if I try to use Vertical right now, OBS just crashes outright.
Hoping to grind up for a new PC so I can unlock my potential!
Sizzle has basically zero functionality for anything that's not FPS - so it's a conundrum.
*On the one hand* - it has functionality that covers an *enormous* swath of people streaming on Twitch.
*On the other hand* - the only utility is in the one segment where there's the most streaming competition, and where Sizzle users are *least* like to succeed. There are a billion headshots made every day. Automatically capturing and sharing 100,000 of them per day is...ugh.
There's a channel video from a couple years ago talking about how "gameplay with a user camera in the corner" is not going to help you stand out.
Sizzle _feels_ like the exact same thing. It's an *incredibly* useful tool, yes - but since it's so focused on FPS games, it mostly seems to automate production of incredibly *boring*, assembly line, cut-n-paste content.
i can't use the vertical thing for some reason
Yes I got screenshots posted on twitter too ^_^ gonna tag @SenpaiGamingInc
A second stream key would be great, but might not be possible for some streamers who don't have a strong enough internet connection. Vise versa it would effectively double twitches computing usage overnight - so some technical problems are there for that
the vert stream would not need as much bandwidth as its smaller
Yeah it’s a cool idea. But being real, has Twitch made a history of decisions to make things easier for the streamer? Maybe only partners would get it. But highly doubt they’d think it’s worth the extra cost for the convenience of streamers.
You wouldn’t have to use the second stream key. You would have to actually configure OBS or Aitum Vertical to actually use it.
@@schmittydAU I'm sorry but I don't understand what your comment adds to the conversation, that's just how stream keys work? OBS/Aitum Vertical stream for you (using your internet), and Twitch would need to process both streams, so how does that address what @HDGamerLouis said?
I had the same thought.
solution: maybe the vertical plugin can be triggered ( some api thing? no idea how this stuff works) when someone creates a clip and save the vertical version of that clip. then the streamer can upload that to the discovery feed

Wow. It is so nice to have good news, especially for a brand like Twitch where it had felt like every other video about it was how they are ruining more stuff.
I’m happy to hear things might be getting better for the creators who work so hard!
Dan Clancy sounds like a possible Phil Spenser story. I hope that is the case!
Honestly refreshing to hear some good news coming from Twitch. Been away from the streaming scene for a long time now, but still have friends that are continuing to rise and grind and I hope nothing but the best for them!
Thanks for keeping us up to date on the announcements from TwitchCon Paris. I did attend as well, but I was so checked out about Twitch that I didn’t care about the announcements and only went to support some fellow creators’ workshop.
I appreciate that Twitch finally pulled their heads out of their butts and started trying to create new tools for the creators. The issue I take is that it feels like the announcements were in response to their major bloodletting of creators due to their controversial ad policies (which they sorta walked back, only to expose even murkier things about brand exclusivity, especially for a former affiliate like me). If they never released their greedy ad policies and followed up with gaslighting the audience with their “ignorance” or “complete misunderstanding” of their ad policies, then I might’ve stuck around longer and kept streaming. As of now, I’m just going to passively watch. Having said this, tools like these do take a lot of time and a lot of political maneuvering, so I’m sure they were being developed long ago, so I will point the finger at their leadership for making the wrong decisions that resulted in me leaving the platform.
Thanks for calling out the inner turmoil within Twitch, particularly with Dan Clancy. I met him at Paris and got a high five from him. Thanks for keeping it real, Harris. 🤙
Clancy is actually going on the floor and talking to the streamers and viewers in person, which is something that hasn't happened at Twitch in a few yrs.
The problem I’m having with the vertical clipping feature is sometimes the skinny canvas may MISS a key moment that may happen onscreen that is too far left/right on the gameplay source for the vertical clip to capture.
What would be cool is a way to situate your camera at the top and record it as usual, but record the gameplay source as a horizontal canvas then export the footage with the ability to “scroll left/right” and “zoom.”
Ngl, I have no idea how that would work.
It would be a canvas size thing probably If you could export it in full res and just provide a clipping tool the adjustments could be done in premiere but then its getting complicated again.
@@calebb4782 yep. Nailed it. My fault I didn’t have my morning coffee before my initial comment lol
I struggled with this too at first. I think you could set up the vertical canvas to have a normal resolution and then edit the videos with panning/zooming etc. but what I ended up doing is just positioning my vertical sources so that it only cuts off some of the action. I use a Gaussian filter (or any filter) to create a blur background and my gameplay is about 2/3 the size of a normal canvas, with the edges trimmed a bit. You do still miss some of the action this way, so if there's anything you really want to catch then I'd recommend using replay buffer as well.
Not trying to self promo but if you look at my shorts you can see how I've positioned it. Works about 80% of the time, and when I miss anything I use replay buffer to catch it in 1080p
Good luck!
@@refl3xes835 What if there was a special canvas setting that allowed you to set up the short form feed on the right side of the canvas. That way you would only have one canvas. Twitch would see all of it but know this is 16:9 section and this is the 9:16 area. It would make the canvas like 20% more data maybe?
@@calebb4782 That definitely sounds nice, and I hope that more streaming platforms start incorporating things like that. I love the Vertical plugin but setup can be a little complicated. I've tried getting friends to use it and they sort of give up on it hah
Thank you for these updates Harris! It helps us keep an eye on what's coming.
I always look forward to these kinds of videos, super helpful and just nice to watch! Thanks Harris! :)
I remember I was walking by elgato promotion stand and saw you streaming there. It was pretty cool to see you in real life. Twitch Con Paris was amazing
Keep up the great content been watching you for a while.
I absolutely love your ideas man! You have helped me out a lot with my streaming stuff and the vertical is God Sent lol! if they could use it for the discoveries it would put twitch on another level i hope! thanks a lot man, you are awesome!
Appreciate your content as a digest of updates.👍🏻
Lots of good updates and a nice breakdown, thanks!
The main problem i see with a second stream of the vertical to Twitch is the fact that Twitch would have to encode that, too. Something they seem to already struggling with considering affiliates and below don’t always have encoding available. So having streamers essentially take up twice the data, two feeds that separately needs encoding of 6000kbps, on top of the internet-requirement on the streaming end, makes it not so likely.
I more so think your other idea of editing vertical clips (mentioned in another video) is more likely to happen
I love the idea you had about vertical clips. Would be a tremendous win! Love your content, friend. Appreciate you!
Senpai Gaming just got interesting again ;)
For real though, this is the first vid on the channel I've watched in a while now that I'm finally taking the leap to full time streaming/content creation, and I get the feeling I'll be back more often now too. Refreshing to hear some things to be optimistic about!!
Thank you once again Harris! As always, coming in hot with the updates, your verdicts and awesome ideas!
Loved this. Great video
Happy to hear you being optimistic about Twitch, Harris. Recently I gave up on streaming because I couldn't enjoy streaming on Twitch anymore, and also real life got in the way. I'm hoping these new updates and changes make things better not just for current streamers, but new streamers coming into the space now.
I love the vertical stream key idea I wonder how much overhead that would make on their backend, and if there would be an upload bitrate hit.
It's genuinely exciting to see a video about Twitch that's optimistic. The platform has never been perfect, but to hear that there are folks behind the scenes that are trying to do right by Twitch users and streamers is refreshing and gives me a bit of hope.
Thank you for the updates
He could not escape the infamous baby in the plane, glad to have been able to talk to you in Paris !
Totally checked out of twitch con this year and I’m so glad you made this video
I really hope that Twitch continues to make changes like the discovery tool.
Boring af in 2023
All shorts do is continue to test the creator’s ability to capture the interest of people with attention issues in the first second. This is completely irrelevant to broadcast media.
twitch is a dying breed, it will be dissolve by amazon or sold off in the near future. as its fails to innovate and like the DMCA process they created its not fit for purpose. they need to adopt the youtube method
I really enjoyed all of your videos on streaming, gadget tech, twitch and making videos
So thank you so much 😊
Seeing Twitch make moves towards no longer being a place to just watch streams, but also to discover more and (hopefully) interact with the community you build is fantastic.
Sure it _feels_ like it might be a little too late for it, but Twitch is still one of the bigger known names when it comes to streaming platforms.
If Dan continues pushing for these improvements, he will be the reason Twitch continues to thrive.
My hope is they continue to build out features like Stories to allow engagement on the platform itself in some way, even if it's similar to UA-cam's community posts. Just a way for creators to interact with their community directly on the platform where their content is consumed would be a huge benefit.
hey harris and team you said in the vod that a second key would be great to stream the vertical stream to run along side the main stream but is there a way that if you run your plugin on OBS that it could run a script to record the clip and save to your hard drive on your computer when someone clips the stream? this could be a quicker way of sorting out the verticle content for the stories on twitch before they themselves add something?
Thanks for sharing very hopeful news! Love your content!
The discoverability thing sounds great in theory, sadly in the past Twitch has always done things halfway or changed their minds on things. I have been Twitch Loyal for over 5 years. If they can actually do this right, it could be a game changer. I'm one of those streamers who goes for 8-12 hours, 7 days a week, so my non live time is very precious. Being able to broadcast in a vertical format at the same time would be so helpful. Maybe Twitch is finally listening to it's streamers for once. I look forward to the future. Also Harris, I love your content, I found you before the name change when I was looking into streaming for the first time. Thank you for what you do. The Tutorials and just valuable information.
The clip graph you mentioned exists now on the highlights section of your vods when you are in “video producer”
I doubt Twitch would voluntarily want to double the bandwidth that streamers are sending to them with a second stream key - they're already far more limiting with bit rates compared to sites like UA-cam so this just seems a bit pie in sky thinking.
Also - decisions or not the fact that Dan is putting himself out there is a huge step up over previous leadership. Never saw Emmit Shear at a Twitch Partner party talking with anyone who approached him, so that sort of level of access is a breath of fresh air for Twitch TBH
You gonna rub the partner party in my face again? Man, the disrespect.
@@Senpai Do I need to fetch someone to bring you more poisonous hors d'ouvres as an apology?
can u upload vertical vids from tiktok, yt shorts and ig reels? the same u post or have to be from twitch clips? does anyone know anything
Twitch literally had the "discovery feed" a long time ago. Way back around 2016/2017, they had the "Pulse Feed" and it was EXACTLY WHAT THE DISCOVERY FEED IS!
I was so confused why they shut it down. It was SO GOOD.
Always love your videos thank you
As more and more content is seen vertically I'd love to hear your thoughts on like streaming in that orientation. Personally I stream with tktok studio so my games can be viewed in horizontal or tiny vertical like youtube over there and I like the discoverable nature but I feel like it isn't adopted wildly if at all yet.
You always have such great ideas to improve Twitch/streaming
Awesome video as always I like your content keep up the good work and sharing all the good things of streaming !!!
cool ...
love the ideas, you always have good ideas. AND as i was watching this, I was saying to myself, Harris def said this like 5 years ago and sure enough you did. Funny, but also makes me wonder why you haven't created a "twitch" yet.
I agree with everything said in this video. I have tried multiple streaming platforms but always come back to Twitch. It’s home. Excited to see if they can turn it around!
Gr8 ideas as always Harris! Tvm matey!
I honestly Very agree with this take!! its truly incredible to see twitch step forward after its been long regarding the things you and so many people have been asking for and at least this man has been genially trying improving twitch possible despite some of the Poor decessions taken in the past. these new improvements are super awesome and hopefully id say with this rate hopefully twitch will improve even more in the future that it will continue to grow in a stable way.
As much as I'm still not leaping into streaming or content creation, I still enjoy watching your updates and insights. Thank ls for the update😊
no extra editing from us but does it take extra processing and cost for twitch to encode a separate feed aside ours, with the very few that will jump on board with this ( the cost would not equal reasons to worry on their end )
could be solid 🎉
Excellent video, as always
Was lovely meeting you at twitch con!
Idk why but I belly laughed at "I'm a little skeptical... The mans favorite thing to do is touch grass" 😂
Another awesome video buddy :-) thank you for keeping us updated!
Cheers for the heads up Harris! 🎉
Setting up a template that captures like your vertical stream plugin for obs would be gold. I don’t know if a separate key is needed but hey it might work as well.
The second stream key is a great idea, but I hope they let us upload our own vertical clips. I've been sitting at 5-10 viewers for the past couple years and it's been rough. Great video Harris! 👍🏻
Thank you this was really informative.
Thanks for the insightful video!
I feel like hope is coming back regarding the platform, al though I've never left but I'm glad there are huge changes for the better. Even if I'm still skeptical as well, only time will tell how things turns out and if they are as good as they are painting them to be. Got to say I like your idea about simplifying the clip uploading process for the discovery feed. That would make things less heavier on everyone's back after ending streams.
With a lot of streamers jumping ship from twitch to youtube, I'm curious as well as to what Dan can do to either save or improve where twitch is at while retaining their creator base.
I love the idea of twitch automatically making a vertical clip at the same time and this works for any game that has a set point of focus. The issue that some of us would run into is when the horizontal plane is spread out too much and the entertaining portions of the clip cannot be in the same screen. I think the idea for a majority of clips is perfect. I would also like to see the ability to further breakdown the clips to take in the wider shot as well. I am not sure how this could be accomplished outside of shrinking the whole screen to fit or possibly having a strange split screen that makes to content disconnected.
i love u harris *screams it louder than anyone else in this lobby
Woah 👀
Great content!
An alternative that would require far less computing power on twitch's end would be to use that graph you mentioned, with some twitch integration into your vertical video plugin, which could be used for recording rather than a second stream to twitch. Use the graph idea to add easily navigated timestamps in some form to the vertical recording, and simply upload to twitch from there.
Nice to meet you at paris!!!! Great video
I love your vertical clip suggestion! I agree 100%
I like what you're thinking regarding the second stream key to connect your OBS plugin. But it's only "no editing needed" if you want to post an....unedited clip. Sometimes I want to share a clip that is more than 30 seconds. Or sometimes I want to cut 20 seconds out of the middle of the clip.
I think the easy win for people is to be able to upload the vertical videos for the discovery tab. Granted I know I’m a dinosaur, but I still edit my clips and then make vertical versions for tiktok and UA-cam shorts. It’d be super easy to just upload them to twitch discovery too.
great idea with the vertical i recently got the plugin to check it out and i like it
Does anyone know if Twitch has done any progress in implementing av1 streaming?
Can't find anything recent about it, thought they were interested in it
Every change can be good and bad , but atleast you can see the efford , maybe to late but we will see^^ I really hope that little streamers would get more discovered in future coz there are beautiful people on platform that no one knows about
All good points and ideas you put out. Thx for your hard work always love your videos ❤
Thank you for the breakdown, here's hoping they add some features to make things easier for streamers!
Great to see some changes happening 😮
YES!!! The second streaming key for vertical content makes SO MUCH SENSE!!! I already make clips with it but I just hoard them on my PC after making them because I forget to post them!
Thanks for the infos!
tysm for the video!! ^_^
Thank you for telling me about sizzle. I never get people making clips for my streams so I have to always go into my stream myself and clip. This helps alot!
Twitch has gone through a rough couple of years but I think there's still an opportunity to turn things around with the continued experimentation and rollout of new features as well as an engaged leadership. People forget that UA-cam also had it's fair share up ups and downs over the years but remains at the top of long for video content. I think Twitch can remain the leader in streaming if they continue the path they're on.
I think it would be a great addition if you could stream regularly and simultaneously clip in vertical format, it'll give you a lot more freedom to spread your content. But I'm even more curious about (con)joined streams, we had a similar system only for partners and it was a reason why I stopped streaming, because I wanted to aim for more of a talkshow setup. If we were able to have more multi-streaming capabilities I think I'd might get back on the horse
One thing I miss so much streaming on UA-cam is Twitch's highlight editor. It's so much more stream lined than UA-cam's, and hearing it's getting functionality updates makes me miss my friend.
Hopefully with more discoverability, stories, and a new feed they can sprinkle some ads there and take a bit of the burden off of live streamers.
love the end screen. nice
Got to meet Dan at TwitchCon San Diego and he was such a cool down to earth guy and we exchanged stories about being parents and even gave me some fun pointers on how to do bed time stories with my kid.
It’s great to see some good changes actually happening at Twitch. The communities that live on Twitch are amazing. I want it to keep getting better from here
This is epic!
I use your vertical OBS plugin & would be nice for twitch.
I'm super curious to see where Twitch is headed! I agree that it's starting to look good and there have been a LOT of changes recently. I'm also skeptical, but we'll see what happens!
Hi. Was there any news about AV1 encoding for streams?
I LOVE the idea of that extra vertical key. That’s a genius idea!
The vertical clips / 2nd stream key would be amazing to have. I would have to set up the vertical streaming plugin if that worked.
Hi there! It was awesome meeting you at TwitchCon! Keep up the great work!
As always good information. Thank you.
We also need to be able to edit the clips the same way we do on tik tok or yt shorts, often the raw clips from a twitch Stream are boring or takes too long to get to the funny portion. Being able to edit would help us grab more ppls attention as they scroll
I honestly don't think a second stream key for vertical clips will be implemented because that will take even more precious server resources and given how insanely much streaming costs Twitch already, the executives likely will dismiss this idea on the spot
I love the concept of vertical key alongside the regular key. I think that would be a really good timesaver for those of us who end literally when we have no time left and need to sleep or work it whatever. 😅
things can shift quickly eh? the rest of this year will be interesting, thanks for the video
im excited to see the future of twitch!
I’ve been using aitum and you have so many good ideas. Very inspirational and I strongly agree with the vertical live streaming. Tiktok Live studio is starting to become the META for streamers to grow off of tiktok algorithm. Love your vids keep up the good work❤
Hollywood Hogan just asked for his magic marker back.
Man that vertical clips idea would be PERFECT
As someone who is just getting into streaming the thing that I really don't like about twich is the ban of the restream. I stream to no one right now and need to be able to try and get out there to as many eyes as possible, that's why I am more interested in possibly kick.
Good Video as always
That is an amazing idea I really hope they listen and implement it asap
6:30 This actually is a great idea! Pretty much using a histogram as an indicator for most clipped sections of the stream.
