I remember when UA-cam went through policy hell in 2015-17 with demonitization and almost entirely banning swearing and people started moving to twitch once it started advertising it’s less strictness and now it’s the opposite twitch is being money hungry and streamers are moving to UA-cam for near risk free streaming

I'm a Twitch affiliate as well and I've noticed myself the mass exodus of viewers from the platform as well. This is truly the death of the platform for ALL of us regardless of what you're talking about anyway. Is it time to jump ship and go to KICK now!?

Somebody took those adorable voice lines (which were already a meme because of how freaking cute they were) and vocoded it over the Super Mario world ending theme, specifically the part that you hear in the "pet the X" memes. That video currently has 2.2 million views on UA-cam. Guess where the video came from? Facebook. That's right, FACEBOOK spawned a viral meme for a popular gocha game. If you actually care about growing your audience, stream everywhere at once, UA-cam, TikTok, kick, and yes, even Facebook.

Over the last day or two the group I am with has noticed that Twitch has silently made 6 different revisions in their ToS without publicly notifying folks each with varying adjustments as if they cannot decide on what they want to do. My friend legitimately went to have something for lunch and not even after that short amount of time did he press f5 to reload and they changed stuff in it again from what he's been keeping up with.

This is a stepping stone. As you said, this is a means to force every streamer to get their sponsorship through Twitch. However, eventually Twitch will adopt a policy similar to the UFC where if a sponsor is not directly affiliated with Twitch, you are not allowed to stream in association with that sponsor. For context, the UFC adopted a similar policy where a fighter can only dedicate a small percentage of their kit to endorsements. A short time later, UFC fighters had to adopt a policy where a fighter was banned from endorsing competing companies who were otherwise directly affiliated with the UFC company brand. I. E. a fighter endorsed by Under Armour or Nike could no longer where Under Armour or Nike kit because the UFC as a company now has a contractual sponsorship with Reebok. Refusal to adhere to UFC policy invalidates any agreement to fight in the UFC forthwith. So imagine for a moment that a game streamer could no longer stream or had to suspend their stream because it was found out that this poor streamer was using a PC built by CyberPower, or Origin, or Digital Storm; and they violated Twitch policy because company policy clearly states that in order stream you must adhere to the company endorsement and be using a PC made by Acer or maybe even Apple; and this just steamrolls down the line. To what boom mics you can use, to what headsets can be used, what books livereader's are allowed to feature; all the way down to what chairs you are allowed to sit in should you even decide to continue live casting instead of Vcast.
Advertisers will want this and twitch has done it with their blessing. Advertisers can now go directly to twitch, the one stop shot, and twitch can now offer cheaper rates as they get a cut of everything. I'm no expert but I very much doubt these changes were made without consulting advertisers who collectively have the most clout in the social media space.
creators cant burn in ad bits any more but twitch can completely hijack your stream to place ads whether you want them to or not. Truly an incredible development.
I've never been much of a twitch person over the last 10 years. But a friend of mine started streaming on Twitch. So i've been using the platform more so I can support her, good lord is the ad experience there miserable. I only had 1 blocker installed before Twitch, and it's worked fine making sure I'm not getting invasive ads all over the place. It *DOES NOT* work on Twitch, instead it just makes the site crash every 15 minutes. I've had to hunt down 3 other blocking extensions, all of which break at some point and have to be disabled until they get updated. It's a *miserable* experience and I have been discouraged from looking for new streamers on Twitch.
I’ve basically stopped using twitch in it’s entirety because unless I’m subbed I’m generally met with 2-6 minutes of ads just entering a stream. So raids etc are just a inconvenience to the viewer now. I join a raid and I get to see the streamer in a tiny box in the corner of my ads. Why sit through those ads when I can just watch any other service and have less to no ads? They’re killing smaller streamers chance of gaining an audience as well so they’re not even lucrative to streamers.

What we're complaining about here isn't that we have to watch any ads at all during a stream. What makes this even more mind blowing is another major company already did this experiment which is UFC. For those who don't follow UFC, UFC is attempting, or already banned fighters from showing their sponsors on their shorts. This has caused huge back lash and made many fighters and new and upcoming fighters say "fuck it ill just do one" and other fighters who are popular just say "fuck it, ill just run my own school or do youtube, cause at this point being a full time coach or youtuber pays more" So we have literally already seen this exact experiment happen and saw it end terribly, so the fact someone else is doing it just mind blows me

There has to have been thousands of videos with millions of views talking about how top streamers are leaving and all of these policies are garbage yet they still refuse to change course at all. in terms of contracts for the higher viewer streamers.....twitch will potentially be in legal hot water under "breach of contract" clauses, by knowingly ending almost all revenue to their contracted streamers, those streamers are not going to be contractually bound to stream anymore

Not really. People who use 3rd party apps are in the minority. The problem is reddit is removing freedom to customize(which alot of people dont care about). And the possibility of more ads(imo what the majority is concerned about). Honestly i've tried other 3rd party apps and reddit is just easier to use. Ads are easy to scroll past and ignore anyway(unlike on youtube and other platforms). Twitch changes is much worse because it changes the whole way how streamers monetize. The most affected from the new rules are the biggest streamers, and their big fanbases aren't happy about it too.
i feel the banner ad thing won't really effect streamers only because contracts would have to adjust according to the new guidelines that obviously the streamers have to abide by, I only comment this cause yeah fuck twitch but Charlie says that companies require it and it'll hit streamers big which then at least that statistic would just change for all parties involved
Its almost like these companies have forgotten a single rule "you exist because of us". Driving away their viewer base is a platform breaking moment. Twitch needs to remember this rule, and be reminded of that rule.

the answer is pretty simple. those tech companies, including youtube are Not profitable in the first place and may loose far more money then they make. they basically survive on investment money. so they have to make crappy changes or promote politics to make money somehow.

If you actually care about growing your audience, stream everywhere at once, UA-cam, TikTok, kick, and yes, even Facebook.

Over the last day or two the group I am with has noticed that Twitch has silently made 6 different revisions in their ToS without publicly notifying folks each with varying adjustments as if they cannot decide on what they want to do. My friend legitimately went to have something for lunch and not even after that short amount of time did he press f5 to reload and they changed stuff in it again from what he's been keeping up with.
What are the changes specifically?
@@purplegoopguy I wish I could tell you but I have only what ive written on here to go with from what my friend told me. Take this with a grain of salt if you'd like, you are entitled to your own opinion and conclusions.
This is a stepping stone. As you said, this is a means to force every streamer to get their sponsorship through Twitch. However, eventually Twitch will adopt a policy similar to the UFC where if a sponsor is not directly affiliated with Twitch, you are not allowed to stream in association with that sponsor.
For context, the UFC adopted a similar policy where a fighter can only dedicate a small percentage of their kit to endorsements. A short time later, UFC fighters had to adopt a policy where a fighter was banned from endorsing competing companies who were otherwise directly affiliated with the UFC company brand. I. E. a fighter endorsed by Under Armour or Nike could no longer where Under Armour or Nike kit because the UFC as a company now has a contractual sponsorship with Reebok. Refusal to adhere to UFC policy invalidates any agreement to fight in the UFC forthwith.
So imagine for a moment that a game streamer could no longer stream or had to suspend their stream because it was found out that this poor streamer was using a PC built by CyberPower, or Origin, or Digital Storm; and they violated Twitch policy because company policy clearly states that in order stream you must adhere to the company endorsement and be using a PC made by Acer or maybe even Apple; and this just steamrolls down the line. To what boom mics you can use, to what headsets can be used, what books livereader's are allowed to feature; all the way down to what chairs you are allowed to sit in should you even decide to continue live casting instead of Vcast.
Gotta admire Twitch's dedication to pissing everyone off at once, including streamers, advertisers, viewers, and their own damn employees
Advertisers will want this and twitch has done it with their blessing. Advertisers can now go directly to twitch, the one stop shot, and twitch can now offer cheaper rates as they get a cut of everything.
I'm no expert but I very much doubt these changes were made without consulting advertisers who collectively have the most clout in the social media space.

I've never been much of a twitch person over the last 10 years. But a friend of mine started streaming on Twitch. So i've been using the platform more so I can support her, good lord is the ad experience there miserable. I only had 1 blocker installed before Twitch, and it's worked fine making sure I'm not getting invasive ads all over the place. It *DOES NOT* work on Twitch, instead it just makes the site crash every 15 minutes. I've had to hunt down 3 other blocking extensions, all of which break at some point and have to be disabled until they get updated. It's a *miserable* experience and I have been discouraged from looking for new streamers on Twitch.
I’ve basically stopped using twitch in it’s entirety because unless I’m subbed I’m generally met with 2-6 minutes of ads just entering a stream. So raids etc are just a inconvenience to the viewer now. I join a raid and I get to see the streamer in a tiny box in the corner of my ads. Why sit through those ads when I can just watch any other service and have less to no ads? They’re killing smaller streamers chance of gaining an audience as well so they’re not even lucrative to streamers.

What we're complaining about here isn't that we have to watch any ads at all during a stream. It's that Twitch is now trying to completely prohibit SPONSOR ads from playing, and only want their own ads to play.

What makes this even more mind blowing is another major company already did this experiment which is UFC. For those who don't follow UFC, UFC is attempting, or already banned fighters from showing their sponsors on their shorts.

Charlie will have absolutely no problem migrating to UA-cam, he uploads UA-cam videos twice a day, gets millions of views every week, and has a firmly established presence on this platform. If he can dodge UA-cam's bullshit, and if the money's good, he will not skip a beat transitioning to UA-cam. He already has a VOD channel, all he needs is a new layout, and he's good to go.

I gravitated away from twitch and streamed to UA-cam mostly. I hope this can be fixed or other video platforms can exist. It doesnt seem fair to streamers at all.
See the bounty board sounds like a great idea for upstarting streamers and what they should have done instead of trying to force already successful streamers that don’t need them for brand sponsorships to take part in stuff like that- is incentivize newer streamers to part take in it by actually helping them grow their presence Until their also big enough to do their own thing rinse and repeat with another person.
Twitch really saw all of the bad choices that youtube gets bashed for and took that as a challenge

It is genuinely insane to me how companies think tightening the leash for extra money is ever a good idea, these are the people who pay your bills. They would be absolutely nothing without their creators, yet they treat them like they are lucky to even go live. They should be on their knees, begging for advice, yet they are too diluted to ever ask for help.
As we see, this is the result of tightening the leash a bit too much, as the head popped off and now they are losing their bloodline of streamers and their sponsors

Twitch is just laughing its ass off at all the empty threats from people who think streamers are gonna finally up and leave. If they leave for youtube, they take a straight 75%++ cut to their profits. Half as many people watching league right now, and youtube viewers don't tip. The financial incentive to stay on Twitch even if Bezos is pounding the streamers in the ass is ENORMOUS.
UA-cam is not a real alternative, and neither are any of the other tiny services trying to take Twitch's place.

Twitch ads are arguably worse, though, that shit is getting close to Free-Tv ad breaks already, its only a matter of time

in terms of contracts for the higher viewer streamers.....twitch will potentially be in legal hot water under "breach of contract" clauses, by knowingly ending almost all revenue to their contracted streamers, those streamers are not going to be contractually bound to stream anymore

Not really. People who use 3rd party apps are in the minority. The problem is reddit is removing freedom to customize(which alot of people dont care about). And the possibility of more ads(imo what the majority is concerned about). Honestly i've tried other 3rd party apps and reddit is just easier to use. Ads are easy to scroll past and ignore anyway(unlike on youtube and other platforms).
Twitch changes is much worse because it changes the whole way how streamers monetize. The most affected from the new rules are the biggest streamers, and their big fanbases aren't happy about it too.

Its almost like these companies have forgotten a single rule "you exist because of us". Driving away their viewer base is a platform breaking moment. Twitch needs to remember this rule, and be reminded of that rule.

They're counting on the negative response being disjointed rather than organized. It's just the platform version of cutting shifts and benefits and expecting the wage slaves to pick up the extra slack for no extra pay.
the answer is pretty simple. those tech companies, including youtube are Not profitable in the first place and may loose far more money then they make. they basically survive on investment money. so they have to make crappy changes or promote politics to make money somehow.
