Hay man milt here I have a Knox yesterday I was in very trashy ground at my granddaughters I was lost got back home and listened to you for three hours know now that should have been in park one l don’t have a six inch coil listening to your trashy mode milt
I have many tutorials on the nox to help
This is the best iron bias explanation I have seen on YT yet. Thanks for the Layman’s term explanation. Btw, Dan from Outlaw Detectors sent me your way. Glad he did.
Glad to have you along. Good luck on the treasure trail.
This is a big help in understanding my nox800. Thanks.
Thank you for watching
I've been watching your videos and I have the Equinox 800. What I like about your videos is that you make them easy to follow. I just subscribed to your show and wanted to say thank you.
You are very welcome. Thank you for watching and happy hunting
ALOT of good points! A few more essentials for trashy areas ( MY OPINION)
1. 6"coil
2. Swing slow
3. Absolutely hunt in both directions! All one way, change to opposite direction & hunt it all over. ESPECIALLY if its a good spot! If not you WILL miss stuff!
Correct
Hi mate I'm from Australia I got metal detecting 800 about 6 months ago. I have watching you and have turn heep from you very clear and easy to understand. Thanks you very very much mate.
Keep up the good work and good hunting. 🍺🍺👍
Awesome, thanks for watching. Happy hunting
Awesome video. The gist I get from this and your other videos is that there is no setting that is set in stone. Like adjusting an equalizer on a stereo, what works for classical music may not work for country. This detector is going to be so much fun to play with!
Yes that is correct. Once you learn what the settings are for then that's where you decide what is best for the situation at hand. 😊
My wife got me the Equinox 800 last year and it has just been setting in the back room for almost a Year now, I got it out yesterday. Yes I am new to Detecting and apparently I have a very Trashy Yard. I tried what you said about raising the Iron Bias until I didn't get so much Chatter without cancelling the Iron out Completely. It was best at around 5. Thank you so much and keep up the Good Content
Glad I could help. Happy hunting
Very descriptive videos. Thank you!
Thanknyou
I liked your video, but it would have been nice if you had given an example field test of what high, medium, and low sensitivity setting have on depth and separation detection, especially when you're trying to detect a coin in a trashy area at different depths.
Carlos
thank you for this video, always learning something new !
Thanks for watching
Another great theory and demo video. Thanks a lot my man.

I'm liking your equinox videos. I use the NOX and the Deus and love them both. Cheers👍
Thank you, I appreciate you watching
Great video!
G'day mate, thanks for the always informative vids, subbed. What coil/tab strengthener are you using, and is it doing the job? Cheers
Thanks ,this are some good tips to share.
Your welcome, thanks for watching
Hi you definitely made the best vids on youtube on the nox 800 thank u so much
Thank you Woody, I appreciate you watching
Good video. I learn and try it out.
Thx!
Thanks for watching Nick
Brilliant vid , big thanks from New Zealand
Thank you, I appreciate you watching
Nice.... good tips for my equinox
Greatings from România, man You are Gold, thank You.
Thank you. I appreciate you watching
I really like the way you explain,, very clear, easy to understand,,
Thanks for watching
Great video, man!
Thank you
Thanks for the clear explanation of the purpose for choosing these settings. Hopefully I'll learn enough about this detector to feel confident of finding what I'm looking for. At present we prefer to go relic hunting with the White's GMT gold detector. It tells me more clearly what's under the ground.
I have many more tutorials on my channel. You can also find me on Sod Busters Metal Detecting Facebook group. Thanks for watching
Excellent explanation !!!
Thank you Gus, happy hunting
Brilliant channel really great to learn from thank you 👍🇬🇧🚒👊🏻
Thank you Shaun. Happy hunting
I found that if the sensitivity is set to high for trashy areas, it actually decreases depth significantly. I was hunting a large lawn next to an old church from the late 1700s and I was only able to get clear and repeatable signals on very shallow targets. I was running in field mode #1, recovery speed 4 and iron bias 4. I set up a test bed when I got home near my house and I couldn't even get a clear signal on a dime 6 inches down (my lawn is somewhat trashy with nails) I was frustrated thinking there was something possibly wrong with the detector but discovered the problem when I did a quick hunt on a small patch or lawn right near a sidewalk here in town. I was getting lots of interference at first even after doing noise cancel then had to lower the sensitivity from 20 down to 17, THEN I was easily able to get consistent clean targets and dug a quarter and a few pennies between 4-6 inches deep. its almost seems like if the sensitivity is to high the machine is unable to focus on anything deeper. sort of like not being able to see something through the fog until your right in front of it. I think any sensitivity settings above 20 are really meant for areas with low interference and big wide open fields. all these old abandoned houses and places from 1700-1800s seem to have way to much iron near the immediate lawn areas. I'm still learning this machine but I've been metal detecting for a few years now. started off with a Fisher F44, almost like going from a Toyota Camry to a Lamborghini lol, doesn't take as much throttle to get ya going so to speak.
Nice, these personal tests really help you learn the machine. Happy hunting
You are the best, great information.
Thank you 😊
I have nox 800. This was a great video.
Thank you for watching
Thanks for the tips, i have read the book but this helps. Don't have a back yard to practice, just have to go to the park. GLHH Carl
Your welcome, I have more equinox tutorials on my channel also if you care to watch.
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting I have and I'm suber too, thanks
That was a cool Road Runner impersonation at 4:57 there Larry. Great video and information. Thanks brother.
🤣😂
Thank you sir
cant wait to i get mine i looking foward to learning this machine see if i can find treasury chest ..i hunting for years with Tek2 it is great with relic i found lots of musket balls an dig axes 3 feet deep
Awsomee...pal 😁😁😎
Great video! I'm at an old park with tons of old screw caps! Just about gave up on this place till I viewed your welcome video! Thanks for the great tips!!! 👍
Let me know how you do and thanks for watching
how are you doing now with the trashy ground?
Fantastic!!!
Thank you
Once again, excellent explanation about iron bias! Let us know what is the best settings for beach!
I'm not much of a beach hunter so I really couldn't say
Great video! How does the iron bias affect the all-metal mode (horseshoe) on-off? You never see anyone explaining that. Does the iron still show up when in all metal mode, as if the iron bias is turned off? I other words, does the all metal mode work independently of the open bias? I can’t tell if you had it on or off during the video.
Good video bud,i like to use the full horseshoe to id iron aswell as iron bias and it does work great when in - 9 on reject and i know ppl say dig every signal but it can get tiring digging a load of iron,im getting on a bit now and a full day detecting is a hard days work for some ppl, this vid will help a lot of ppl who hunt in trasy areas.👍
Thanks Ronnie I appreciate you watching.
Thanks mate I just got a nox 800
Awesome congrats
Flexing the mic-ceps! Nice! 😁
Thx for help ,
You bet
thanks for showing the iron bias mode👍
No problem, I have many more nox videos also and will be live Friday at 5pm pacific time to answer questions about the equinox ox
Love your videos, so helpful, I am confused by your f2 settings? Not sure what that means.
There is FE and F2 in the Iron bias, you can choose what you want if you have at least the 2.0 upgrade. I prefer FE
love your videos ! you are doing a great job ! shared you on my facebook group ( History Savers of Texarkana, Dirt Fishing Club )
Thank you Haley, I will come check out your group.
I want to say this is one of the simplest clips on these settings to understand. l don't usually stay to long if they are too indepth, this is not, as i said it is simple and too the point.
Thanks for watching
Love the vids, got my nox today. Can you link me to that Red support you have on your coil. Thank you :)

Aww wee Mickey 😍 he’s lovely. Do you take him when you go detecting. I take my dog whenever I can. Thanks for all the info. Great videos 👍
Lol he's a great dog. I don't take him with me though, I would hate to teach him to dig 😂
Thank you for the video. An iron ring is tough to discriminate. I would use a rusty nail ;-)
My understanding of iron bias is that it will pick up those squeaker signals, which normally come from rusty iron, and "bias" the detector towards iron. However, deep silver also has a squeaker signal pattern and may be masked with high iron bias setting, as Phil commented below.
Yes as I stated towards the end of the video, high iron bias settings can eliminate good targets therefore i suggest that people perform their own tests for the ground that they hunt. My testing takes place at old ghost towns and homesteads, the iron ring and coins on the board are only to demonstrate what the iron bias and recovery speed does.
Thank you for watching
Great video ,,!!
Thanks for the video as my recovery speed for Beach 2 is 5 and to slow. Going to try higher as your demo illustrated.
BTW my wife has family in Black Foot Idaho
Beautiful state!
Yes it is. Thanks for watching
OKI got it you just show me on this video thank you my problem is solved and without you haven't to say nothing but your video did thank you again
Glad I could help.
Would you happen to know what settings i should use to find a Tungsten Carbide wedding ring? (Equinox 800)
Any of the preset programs will work, try park 1. Is it recently lost?
Hi i just get it with my 800 its all confusing can you please send me a ease video on getting started in the field
ua-cam.com/video/UXx_fu98aEM/v-deo.html
I have a set programme for park 1 could I use these settings in park 2
Yes you can modify it any way you would like
Hi really it’s good video thanks
We need video for rock back stone if you
Can. Thanks again
Rock back stone?
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting sorry it’s mistake I mean video for rock black stone
Are you referring to hot rocks?
I was wondering if you could do a video on all the settings for field 2 cause since we're in the desert we hunt on field 2 not park 2
Here are some videos to help you. Thanks for watching ua-cam.com/play/PLjrtO2dCo3KHkjtqTrlcCWu4Q6OpFeyIL.html
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting thank you
Will higher iron bias and higher recover speed decrease or increase your depth
It will decrease your depth. Watch this video to see how it works ua-cam.com/video/cvpnsCzeRYw/v-deo.html
In your video you were talking about iron bias you were in FE then when you went outside you were in F2 isn't there a difference or are the the same
FE is the original iron bias and the F2 was designed to try and eliminate bottle caps. I prefer FE
Thanks for the follow up videos. It’s very helpful. It’s just like going to church, every thing said is especially there to help me.
Glad to have you in the congregation 😊 thanks for watching my friend
I've watched a lot of vids regarding settings for Fe and the other one if you have the upgrade. My conclusion is that no one truly knows what Iron Bias is or what it does or why it's even there.
The only ones who know what's really going on with all this iron bias stuff are the Minelab designers.
What software version are you running?
I run 2.0
Does the 600 settings the same as 800 as per this video
Yes
"Learn the settings on your detector" is like hearing "proper diet & exercise is the best way to keep healthy". There is no 'magic bullet' many are seeking when it comes to detectors.
I didn't get a instruction book with my machine I bought it used and they couldn't find it so thanks .
Here is an online manual for you www.minelab.com/__files/f/414877/4901-0249-7%20Inst.%20Manual,%20EQUINOX%20600%20800%20EN.pdf

Hey Larry,
I'm 16 and just got my new Equinox 800! I can't wait to use it more. The first time I took it out I got 5 Wheaties and a 1935 Mercury dime! I have been watching a lot of your videos to figure it out so thank you for all the advice! I actually have my own youtube channel called Desert Diggers. (I would be much obliged if you checked it out) I was wondering what you used to make your really cool intro with?
I appreciate you watching.
I had my intro made on fiver, use this link and then search video intros www.fiverr.com/s2/9fe8ed13d5
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting okie dokie thank you! Can't wait for your next video
Tell them what you’re going to tell them.
Tell them.
Tell them what you just told them.
we detect old foundations in western Pennsylvania, a lot of iron, we study 1860 county maps and frankly we no open areas have been researched but not these to challenging for most plusyou no right away your findings tell us that
I'm not sure what your question is.
Low n slow bud in trashy ground. I have to respectfully disagree. I hunt in one of the trashiest parks in New York. Prospect Park. I’ve never run my recovery higher than 2. The target separation is so superior with the nox than other detectors., we have to keep an open mind of rethinking the way we used to detect trashy ground. I’ve never used the 6 inch box coil yet. Haven’t had the need to. Running your iron high will mask you out as well. You’ll miss deep silver. Best to test in ground. Real hunting conditions. Would love to chat . You have an email link.?
If it works for you then that's what counts. Thanks for watching.
Is this Merrill’s friend Phil the Nox? What I’ve found with high recovery speeds is less accuracy of the Target ID. I agree running high iron bias can mask good targets. Your mileage may vary but setting up your own test garden in your own area is the best way to test it. Larry thanks for the informative video!
Yes it is. I use 3 test gardens , every 2 weeks I check to make sure my Nox is running the way it should. I’ll test theories and applications from others as well to conclude my thoughts . Lots of good intentioned folks out there just giving misinformation without properly testing or applying to real target hunts. Putting targets on wood is simply the save as air testing. Your swing speed will determine if you hit em all in any recovery speed.have to chuckle at some of these videos at times.
Yes and I did state that in this video. One size does not fit all. My testing takes place as I hunt ghost towns and old homesteads. I dont recommend high iron bias as it can mask good targets as stated in the video. The point of this video was to show people what these settings do but my presentation must have come across differently.
All good bud, I actually thought of you today , I was hunting a beach with my buddy who makes videos. He had hunted this area the prior 2 days and invited me today. Long story short , I was in beach 2 Fe 0 all metal mode on ( horseshoe on) I got a grunt with a target. I don’t detect by Tdi but hunt by ear, anyways about 8-10 inches down was a double heart small gold ring. With a piece of iron pipe . If my discrimination was set even at 2 I would of missed it. His site is Metal Detecting NYC. Video was up today. The more experience we get using the nox we can infer whether to dig “ iffy targets” it comes with time test and experience. Relic hunting or not. Don’t mask your targets. I don’t dig much iron at all anymore, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. Comes with time, but I strongly advise to everyone keep it open . Practice in a single frequency ( can’t duscrimuste ) then cross reference to multi. Horseshoe in. Best way to learn how to avoid iron. Just my opinions , but I’ve had some tremendous success.
This might seem like a dumb question but do you know anybody that has a Whites TRX pin pointer that wants to get rid of it. I have looked all over for one because I think it is the best pinpointer but cannot find it since whites has gone out of business.
No I'm afraid I don't. Sorry I couldn't help.

devils advocate question: Minelab 6 inch or Coiltek 5x10
I don't have enough info on the coiltek coils to say. Personally I would stay with Minelab.
It didn't make much difference 0 or 9, the two sound the same.
Get on with it........
I really like the machine but the ears on the coils are shit. had to go out and spend $25 on somebody to make me a 3D printed ears so I can glue it to my coil. only had this machine less than 3 months , used it maybe three times and the coil ears already broke! depressed that they charge you would think that they would make these years at least a quarter inch thick or a half inch. it sucks because I would certainly purchase the 6-in coil. the poor craftsmanship of the coils of the equinox has me looking at the Garrett machines.
Be sure you aren't tightening the bolt too tight. And you keep good rubber washers where the coil connects to the shaft.
Lame lame lame, just tell us the best settings for nuggets in mineralized areas. I know the Monster like the back of my hand, need a little help with this.
You have a funny way of asking for help! You can download the manual online!
Equinox 800 is hard if your a beginner don't listen to people, believe me I have had one
On the contrary, the equinox is one of the easiest detectors to operate with preset programs that are good to go straight out of the box. From beginner to advanced it is hard to beat.
