My most important series is called Becoming A Millionaire Metal Detecting. I am trying to monetize my favorite hobby in order to do it more in the future. In other words, we put the clad we find in the ground, affiliate earnings, and merchandise earnings in to the stock market and we invest it. This show started in January 2019.

Kind of looks like the conclusion is to dig everything one finds.
I'm new so good to learn the different sounds from alloy to gold and not to get in a habit of discounting the numbers. Nice children bless them..
Indian heads for the first five years were 88% copper and 12% nickel. After that they were 95% copper and 5% tin.
I was just going to mention that lol 👍👍
Cool! That’s why they are diff numbers!
I’m 2:30 in and had to pause to comment before continuing. I can already tell this is gonna be the most beneficial video I’ve watched yet. You are a legend for this. Thank you for this. I know it was a lot of work.
100% spot on
Tells me exactly what I knew all along ! Good strong signal means a dig everytime. This Equinox is awesome ! Watched and enjoyed this video all the way through ---thanks !
Yeah but, a broken chattery sound can be a gold chain or necklace...
Great video! You and your family put in a lot of work and it is Greatly appreciated
Love this video. I have only had my Equinox 800 for a few months and this has helped wrap my head around the numbers/tones, compared to the AT Max I previously was using. Thanks for taking the time to lay it out and show the range of items in numbered lines. :)
I just got a 600 from an At pro, I really can Id a lot easier on the Garrett…
I am a coin dealer. Indians from 1859-1864 are copper nickel including the flying eagle cent. Mid year in 1864 they switched to bronze on the indian cents.
Great job. I have followed Tony for years. I have even bought his head phones for the NOX and I have had him mod my Excalibur and got head phones for that one as well. I remember when he did the same revue as you but I think you covered it better. Thank you very much I need to make some metal detecting videos for my channel. Take care and stay safe.
Great video! Thanks a ton for putting some of this into better perspective.
Thanks for all that hard work!
Your hard work is appreciated!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!👍👏
Just starting out with a new Nox 800- thanks for this! Just the jump start I needed!
I think soil makes a big difference too. Example: My nickels in northern part of PA. ring from 11 up to 14 but main range is 12,13. There is a lot of minerals in the ground here, I some times see small amounts of rust as I dig but it is just the natural metal in the ground rusting. As a teacher you will like this; pencil tops ring up just like a nickel every time I find them... I hate pencil tops!!
Great video, awesome information!! Thank you
GREAT IDEA,,, I will have to get a piece of card board and try it on my 2 detectors,, an Garrett AT MAX and older WHITES CLASSIC ID, THANKS AGAIN..
You put a ton of work into this video. Thank you!
Man I love your videos! I just received my new Nox 800 yesterday and I’m headed to Fort Myers Beach!
Great video! Most interesting video I've watched so far, as I am just beginning my new obsession with detecting. I haven't even bought my nox 800.... yet!!
Absolutely awesome and very helpful. Thanks.
didn't realize you were a teacher, hats off to ya, thanks for all you do. my middle child is currently doing her college schooling in the NYC area, keep up the good work, I know its weird right now.
Thanks for putting all the work and effort in Merrill. Lots of us Nox users out there!!!
ATB
Rob / Flthunder, Diggin' Florida w/ Rob!
So what you’re saying is too dig everything!!!
Good video. Very helpful. Thanks!
What a great job you did !!! i am new , i just saw it , i find it very instructive !!!! Thank You
Thank you!
The indian heads signals were very consistent with the difference in base metal makeup throughout the years
I have a hibit of digging solid signals, no matter the VDI. As long as the numbers are stable, I dig it...
You've got awesome helpers. Very nice.
fun video..thanks for the demonstration board!!!
Thanks for the vid. From Adelaide, Australia 🇦🇺
Awesome! Love the video, very helpful (; my IHP's mostly hit 18/19 I dug a beautiful shape seated quarter last week, hit 30/31
Man that is a lot of testing you did ... Thank you for sharing ..
Very informative. I knew this in the back of my mind but it's nice to see it happening in a somewhat scientific method. I don't have the same detector but I'm sure the results would be similar (the range of coins). Well done.
Really opened my eyes. I learned a lot. Thanks for taking the time to do this and share the results.
Great job
My favorite coins of all times the Franklin Half (Years of Issue: 1948-1963 90% silver ) and Washington Quarters (Years containing 90% silver: 1932-1964) I guess they'll be in the 34-35 range. Excellent video Merrill this have to be without doubt the most complete video related to target ID's. Thank you for all your work and happy Thanksgiving!
I've noticed with rings, if it's a simple band, or almost perfect circular band, it's a solid non jumpy tone, but if it's gota bunch of stones on it, it's jumpy
Very cool 😎 chart, great awareness
Excellent job! As you sad before ...dig everthing! My guessing is the sounds change and could be the best way to consider to discard or not a target. Davidson from Brazil..
I checked coin star rejects a couple days ago for the first time. Got 7 dimes in great condition from a 1947 to a 2020 !!
Great video.. one of the best on the Nox.
Glad you think so!
I’d like to see you do this test with other detectors. I wish the minelab vdi had a larger range of numbers.
I found a war nickel this week that rang up a 25 on the Nox (80 on AT Pro) and immediately thought of you Merrill.
Great Job 👍
please, please make one for the 900. it would help me out a ton. love the videos, you have helped me find good stuff for a change.
Even when I tell myself not to , it seems I always end up cherry picking with my Nox 800. It usually starts at an hour or so in the hunt .I continue the hunt chasing the high 20s and up . That is not a very wise metal detecting strategy yet thats how I hunt with the Nox . Not sure if I'll ever really feel at one with it . Oh well ! Good job on the examples you made for us viewers 👍
Just bought the nox 800 thanks Merrill for the info
I have literally found more treasure with that machine than any other! Congratulations Jeff!
I did enjoy the video and thanks to your kids for their effort in putting up with you to make it happen. My first question is, why Beach 2? It would be interesting to see Park and Field used as a comparison of VDI ranges IF ANY... Good Stuff.... Thanks...
I was gona say after this dig everything haha thanks for the vidio. Grill! you are so lucky.
Nice! I did an experiment, and filmed it all. Just have not loaded it to my YT. I dug 1000 holes, and recorded all the significant finds. It worked out to 2 gold rings in 1000 holes at the beach! That was the conclusion of my experiment. I was going to challenge other detectorists to the 1000 hole challenge, and see what averages they may have. I do think 1-2 gold rings per 1000 digs is about "normal" for me.
Thank you, that's why I don't find gold often, I just don't pay attention to low number signals.
Epic!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I was thinking of doing one for the Australian currency as there really isn't many good videos out there on our coins.
I wonder if the numbers will change again with auto tracking off?
Awesome to see Danny Deus getting into it!!
41:35 Should be easy to remove a deck board or two, grab the chain and reinstall them. I just found your channel today and am, enjoying it.
thank you
Thank you for investing your time and sharing your passion to teach. I'm a better student for it. Thank you!
You should have turned your backlight on towards the end.
Thank you very much none the less tons to digest here I'll definitely rewatch a time or two.
First and foremost
Thumbs Up on Ur videos.
Now, my guess toward the different types of penny ranges.
Might have to do with which State they were stamped at.
Keep up the excellent 👌 videos U make.
Thank you!
so I just got my 800, and was getting out my hoard, to go over each with a bench test, then I thought , hey I should film it it would be interesting, ( you must have been hard at work by this point on this vid ), any how , watching this... Im thinking Job well done, and I'll just refer others to your vid . I did some bench tests on the AT PRO , but nothing this thorough , and don't think I could make one this in depth so...just wanted to say thanks I'll be trying to soak it all in and referring back to it, and I'll for sure let people know its out there, G.L. H.H. !
i just got my nox 800 and i wanted to get finilure with the readings , i noticed you are using a nox 600, are you able to do a video using a nox 800. i love all your videos and you are my go to guy for when i need to know anything about metal detecting, keep on swinging .
Ok. I have been watching these for a while now. These are very informative videos. So, you have inspired me to get my own metal detector! It's on order and should be here shortly. I will detect my back yard when it gets here then I am going to take it to the beach with me when I head out that way soon. I can hardly wait. I didn't go super expensive and got one that has the water proof coil and is height adjustable (I'm very short), and light weight (I have prior surgical issues with my arms). I hope to see if I love it as much as I have loved watching your videos and whether or not this becomes a "thing" for me. My hope is to have fun, find treasure and get more exercise. I will rig up something for the dog too and see if I can do this with him coming along where permitted. Wish me luck!! :)
Oh, and why can't I "love" your videos? Only thumbs up or down? Hahaha!
Looking forward to more detector tests!! (Simplex+) 😎
brill thanks
What settings were you using? This is a very important factor for the VDIs
I think that has something to do with the soil weather in the soiled might give you a totally different ringtone that's the way I'm looking at it
grat video, i would like to compare those test in park 2 mode.
I have found that my air test vs. a coin in the ground do not always match. And I am sure many, including myself, have passed over good signals because they were not reading like they should.
Thanks for the extra effort put into how coins ring up. Of course, air testing gives only relative results that really do not reflect how in-ground IDs will be. Rather than look at dates, weigh your coins for your tests. My questions: Are you running the 3.0 upgrade which is more stable? Why is your sensitivity set so high? It appears you ran the tests in Beach Mode 2 which is for in-the-surf use (?) If you answered these questions in your video, I apologise. Whatever, since all objects were scanned with the same settings, you get some sense of the relative values. I watched this on my TV so I did not have access to your text. Thanks again for the detailed results you show.
Its the mixture of the metal, making the difference, so much size and sure not the age.
Glad you gave props to Tony......thats a qwartaaa
The aluminium foil rings low. Now after i saw the video i feel bad couse a lot of times i just skipped aluminium if it rang as around 1-6 :(:( Awesome video! Thanks for the effort!!!
"Dig everything" my new motto!
One thing I never understood. What is the point in knowing all the different ID’ if at the end of the day we’ll dig everything anyways? There are gold rings that will hit just as bottle caps
Hi Merrill,
Did you ever rate the Fisher F22?
Very informative video !
Thank you,
James Walsh
I would have liked to see more of how you swing the coin ver the coil. I noticed at the first, with the Indian Heads it looked like you were swinging parallel with the coils detection pattern instead of swinging it as you would detect. That would account for a variation in VDIs on the same type of coin.
Inference better? Really enjoy your videos. Happy hunting Merrill and family. Stark
Merrill hello just finished watching your video! I have I question why didnt you do the settings in park. 1 or park 2 because Indian heads read different in. The park then at the beach .. I'm just wandering ☝
Merrill great video thank you turn on your back light
I just pulled a silver dime out of my yard yesterday it was ringing up 17 18 till i dug it up no bs i thought it was just a penny till i open the hole them it rang up higher from get go i had no idea it was silver
Buen video💪🤙👏👏
if u chose another profile nickels will keep around 13. problably my prefered profile so far will be park 2. since gold has more audio response at that profile or mode.
Buddy if you took a photo of that whole board and put it on a poster I would buy one off you. That's some good work there I'm from the UK and a lot of the coins we find are different but it would still provide us with a good idea of what numbers mean what, I just got a 600, and something like that would be instrumental and very educational 👌
Hi. Do you know anything about beaches in the caribbean? I live in Costa Rica and it seems theres barely any tide overhere in other words the diference between high and low tide is realy really small... Do you think in this case most items stay underwater??
Would you make TID guide also for Vanquish series? i'm intrest to buy Target ID Bible guidebook for vanquish detectors!
You guys should check out the treasure dog of maine..he gets some insane stuff off colonial beaches with the minelab equinox series
I think as the coins either silver or copper can creat there own halo which can cause a slightly higher VDI. For example when you dig silver there is typically black soil surrounding it. That’s why sometimes you get a higher VDI. Wheat pennies are a good example too. I’ve dug many wheats that read as high as silver...26-29. I think the detector picks up the halo of the coin and gives a slightly higher vdi
My first day out with my nox I dug a perfect 12-13 at 6” was my first 1927 buffalo nickel then later got a banging 30-31 an was a 1923 mercury dime in perfect condition with black staining at 6”
@@BIKkeRrFoRRLLiFFEE yea, 30-31 wouldn’t make sense for a dime more like a quarter but with halo I think it would of gave it a higher VDI like you said. Cool!
One thing I can say about the equinox is to get in the habit of removing and cleaning the dirt from under the coil cover as it will mess with your readings. I'm still tinkering with my equinox for about a year now. Some days it seems like the best detector I could wish for and other days I wonder what happened.
Your also in beach mode. I’d tried this in park 1&2 and field 1&2
Great tutorial on Nox signals! Thanks for putting in all the effort! 👍 I find corrosion plays a big role. Hence the wide range in zincolns. I think the older stuff (IHP) might be less consistent due to metallurgical technology over 100 yrs ago being not as refined as today. Iron coins? Our Canadian coins are nickel-clad steel. Practically iron! Need Park for it and rings up jumpy from 13-15 and negatives. Park 1 just sounds like iron junk! Have to dig lots to train the ear for it! Make sure the DHB stuff doesn’t glow! Might need to see how they ring up under a geiger counter!😁
Kep Valley, I think you're right with the corrosion for the Zincs, and also if they've been hit by a mower, or disintegrated some, it changes the signal!!!
I understand it's been a long time since you've made this how many tones is your machine set at are you running only five tones??
Hey bro, i have a Minelab Vanquish 440 that uses a 1-40 number system. Would you consider this guide to be on par because it's Minelab?
Looks like you have to dig up everything with the Nox compared to you newer video of the Legend Bible ID. I see better separation ID with The Legend. Still deciding between the Nox 800 and Legend. Today I pull the trigger
Ps love your videos
TARGET ID !!!!!!!! #NYC
Hey Merrill, I know the VDI is the same on many targets but how about the tones on similar vdi objects. Can we use a musical note microphone 🎤 ( i don't know if that exists or what its called to decipher a range of tones and pitch) to hear the difference in tone, because im willing to bet a good ear can hear the different sounds in the same number values and i think that would be VALUABLE info to have. Go back and listen to the video without watching and HEAR it, very cool stuff.
14k bonded is the same thing as 14k gold filled. It's a heavier plating of gold that wears better. In filled or bonded jewelry the actual gold content must be 1/20th is the total weight of the piece or better and the gold must be 10k or higher in purity.
I'm thinking depending on the environment they were in different levels and types of oxidation have occurred causing the difference readings, especially copper.
Day 4 of keeping the UA-cam algorithm aware of you.
@Minelab Matt and what? Something about his comment you didn’t understand?
Now do you have the update? And change your kHz to see the wide range !
