    Just to provide some info for those interested: Cerea maintained an isolationist policy throughout the reign of the Empire and remained largely disconnected from New Republic affairs. They maintained this policy even after the Yuuzhan Vong War and Darth Krayt's takeover.

    I actually read all these Republic comics over the summer. This arc is not really reflective of the overall quality of the series. This particular arc was kind of boring to me, but it was nice to see Ki Adi get some personality and backstory. My only main problem is how this arc was never really followed up on. I think the Clone Wars comics should have shown the Battle of Cerea because we got to know Ki Adi's family, so it would have hit harder to see their passing rather than just hearing about it.

    The most interesting thing to me about this short story is the portrayal of nature. I feel like there are two sort of contrasting interpretations of the force and nature in the mythos.
    In one nature is heavily associated with the jedi and portrayed as idyllic, while the dark side is kind of an expression of the hubris of men and the desire for more.
    In the other the dark side does moreso represent the base or "natural" primal side of men and the jedis purpose is to basically "fight the jungle" and create order out of nature.
    Not to say thats a flaw or even mutually exclusive, but depending on the story different aspects will get strongly empathised. It is sort of how different philosophers will have different interpretations of what the natural state of men was like.

      @@anonymousbee4163 yes. This kicks off the series that will give us A'sharad Hett, K'kruhk, Quinlan Vos, Aayla, Dark Woman, Tholme T'ra Saa etc. This series becomes what most people recognize as the Clone Wars trade paperbacks starting with the events that revolved around the Defense of Kamino. And a big part of that creative team continues into the production of Star Wars Legacy.

    Honestly I don't blame you guys for taking so long to review Tales of the Jedi. Considering how radically different the technology of the era, especially compared to KOTOR that took place only 50 years later. combined with an unusual Egyptian inspired art direction. It's definitely a very hard series to get into. And this is a guy who loves KOTOR.

    • @GreyJedi91
      @GreyJedi91 5 років тому

      Actually I would probably guess that Connor and possibly even Evan may prefer those comics to the game. But personally, my favourite arc is the final one: Redemption and even that doesn't measure up the KotOR for me. Prior to that I think it's fairly good in spots but still not at the top of my list. The reason we're really putting it off is we're just not ready to discuss so soon after we already did. Need time to forget about it and look at it with fresh eyes.

    Really? This was the first of Dark Horse's _Republic_ stories? It may have been how I remembered reading it but I would have thought that it came slightly later. I guess when I saw the image I thought that you were talking about Outlander than this one as I have some things to say about that story. I guess because it's filler for me I don't have much of an opinion on it.

      I don't read them myself. Canon just isn't my cup of tea. There a few new Canon novels I'm gonna be checking out based on recommendations given to me, but I have no interest in following the current timeline. It just doesn't feel the same as what I grew up with. I will say that I sampled the Mace Windu arc and I read about 2 or 3 issues of that before quitting. I didn't like it at all. I'm sure there are better offerings than that, but I've got no motivation to seek them out.

    Is there a reason why the only Cerean Jedi we meet are male? There might be female Cerean Jedi but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Am I remembering it wrong or was the male to female ratio low compared to other sentient species like humans? In my head that’s why I thought Ki-Adi had so many wives so that at least one would sire a son and contribute to future generations of Cereans.
