My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

I never felt bad for this woman on this episode. She treated Randy like a slave, and when he died its sad she did not mourn for him. She did not care about him, she only cared what he could do for her.

i can't blame randy for not being able to keep the house clean though, he has his own health problems PLUS he has to be her caretaker. i don't think anyone could keep a clean house in that situation

TLC's camera crews integrity has been thrown into question several times with this show and other shows. The camera crews from Intervention was in trouble too. I don't think they are TLC though

@@1stcal11-b2 What I cant understand is I thought Producers or at least one is onsite with the camera crew too bc they are the ones asking questions so that the patient can give their commentary. They aren't talking to the camera crew. So the Producer, too, should be called into question.

The camera crew should be held responsible as well as her for not calling 911. This makes me sick.
Because he's under 65, it's not technically "elder abuse" so legally they aren't required to report it in any state. They 10000% SHOULD have, don't get me wrong. But not reporting it wasn't against the law. In some states even if he was 65, it still wouldn't have been illegal to not report it just depends on mandated reporting laws. In utah, everyone is a mandated reported for abuse of elders, children, or people with disabilities. But in other states, it's only certain people who have to report it - like medical workers, therapists, and teachers.
They cannot intervene by law. The most they can do is report the situation they observe, but legally they are not to step in, nor can they legally be held responsible.
So they couldn't call 911? you're 100% wrong.
@@jb6712 The camera crew are just invited guests in the house. There is no specific law for camera crews. They can be held responsible if it is considered that it would be reasonable to call 911 and they chose not do so.

I feel bad for that old guy who died taking care of here. It looked like he really cared deeply for her.
I remember catching Covid & being stuck in bed for a week , the most depressing thing ever . It feels so good to move around & to get fresh air . Staying in a dirty bed is no way to live .
She's only remorseful and humble RIGHT NOW, because she has no one she can boss around and control anymore to do her toxic actions for her anymore. As soon as she finds someone new to manipulate and do bad things for her she'll go right back to the way she was. It should of been her instead of Randy.

I couldn't have said it better! My heart went out for her boyfriend Randy. She saw him suffering, and all she did was gorge herself with food, while he laid there on her bed slowly dieing. 😔 RIP Randy

Randy looked like he was taking on a lot of stress. He looked older than 60. Poor guy. I've heard how hard it is to be carer. He should have been enjoying his retirement years, not being a carer to a lazy woman
And he not only spent most of his time in that miserable dark smelly room (which he couldn't keep as clean and pleasant as possible with his own health issues burdening him), but he also slept in that awful bed. That mattress really did look like it was decaying.

You'd think the camera crew would have stepped in when Randy was showing signs of a possible heart attack. Or at least have the on staff medic check him out. That was infuriating to watch.

It’s not their responsibility. He is an adult. He chose to live with her and ignore his own health.
They can't. Laws prevent them from intervening---you'd have to watch one of the dozens of videos explaining that very thing---and they aren't held responsible for any of the actions taken by the people they're filming unless it's against the crew directly.

The stories are RARELY heartbreaking. These patients are selfish monsters. Why pity them?

After hearing all this that guy died because of the massive strain to his health. She was indeed abusive, I could blame her for his death. Poor guy he suffered more than her. OMG she tells him to lay down when he needed more help than her. She's a vile person who should have gone first before that man who loved her. There's no help for her, such a nasty woman. Sorry I don't feel sorry for her. He wasn't a boyfriend he was a step stool that she climbed on.

YES THE KNOWLEDGEABLE DOCTOR DOES 50% BLAME THE ENABLERS. HE knows they are also guilty of the dynamics of the family. IF you love the person you do not bring home cookies, candy, chips, cases of soda. The patient cannot get up and chase them. The enablers always do their bidding maybe it's for free housing or they have no where else to go. Plus Randy was very rude to Doctor Now.

OMG! Randy died? She ignored his pain? Wow! honestly do not know what to think. A man who had difficulty breathing (on a breathing machine because he is not getting enough oxygen) during a time when a terrible lung-attacking disease is running rampent, and no one stepped in??? Randy was more susceptible to Covid than Lisa was!!! Weird. I'm not saying it was the TLC's crew's issue, but someone had to be the adult in the room as Lisa was delusional.

I disagree, Sir. I did not feel sorry for this woman. I empathized with her caregiver (she never treated him like a boyfriend) and I hope that the delusion of having anything greater significance to her than an object afforded him some peace/meaning in his final days.

When Dr. Now asked about Randy. She just said he passed away like it was nothing. She had zero emotion. Normally, when someone asks about your deceased loved one, you would get very emotional about it. This woman showed no emotion.

It's the luxury of having cheap unlimited food, greed and manipulation. What she eats in a day would feed a whole family for a week at least, although they'd feel ill at the end of it. It's depravity.
Lots of people have abusive childhoods and many do stuff their faces to get fat, ugly and unattractive. It’s not the answer, but they see this as protection from further abuse. Therapy is needed.

Many of these people have called the police on their loved ones, when they refused to get them food or the food they want. Stephen ASSanti used to do this to his father, a lot. I know they have enablers, but these people will get their fix, one way or another and it's not on someone else to make them want to change..they have to want it.

If the family can prove that they’re providing adequate food for the person - maybe not as much as the person desires but adequate amounts - the police aren’t going to do anything. They’ll do interviews, say it’s a civil issue, tell everyone to be nice and leave. The police aren’t going to force family members to give excessive amounts of food to anyone, I doubt they could if they wanted to.
I’m sure the threat works for a lot of these families but in reality, it’s very silly to take it seriously and I wish someone could tell them that. It’s just wasting police’s time and taking resources from people more in need. It isn’t abuse to give an someone reasonable meals without snacks and not continue to feed them to their heart’s content so there’s nothing for the police to charge the family with.
And that's why she lost 83 lbs in a month's time, obviously, bc in the hospital they stuck to the proper diet, but also since she was ill with Covid. Once on her own again, hopefully all the manipulations that she no doubt tried on her friends fell on deaf ears....
Where is the money for all that food coming from? Also, Lisa has so much empathy for herself that she has no empathy for anyone else.
If I remember correctly, (and I might not...its been quite some time since I watched this episode in full) she gets food stamps and disability . I believe her now deceased BF did as well.

Was Randy financially dependent on Lisa so had to stay? She’d get disability payments and he would too as her carer. Maybe he was on disability too? Without her, he’d be homeless at 62.

Food stamps & SSI. Morbid Obesity is now classified as a disability.
Disability and food stamps wouldn’t cover one week of what these people eat. It’s no surprise that some of them have an OF or some other thing where people pay them to eat on screen.
Unless they pay nothing for rent/mortgage and utilities, there is no way food stamps and SSI/SSDI, both of theirs combined, would have covered the cost of the amount of food she ate.

When my mom died I was 14 and back then there was no help as in counseling. I ate my feelings and kinda still do. If you want help it’s out there but you have to take it. Personally I’ve gained idk how much due to broken ankle and being in walking boot since 10/21/22. Recovering from ankle surgery and can’t wait till I can get back out to walk. Bottom line only me myself and I can change my life. The same with the people on 600 lb life. All the help in the world doesn’t do anything if you don’t really want it. I was also a survivor of sexual assault.

Lisa got on my last good nerve! That dietician and PT are better than me, because I would’ve cussed her all the way out! I would have finished with, “Lady, they don’t pay me enough to take your BS!” She got mad at Dr. Now because he wasn’t buying her crap! I hope and pray that she got herself together.
I'd have definitely lost my job that day. May have even spent some time in jail too!
