No. The whole thing is a misnomer.
Latinos are Italians, spaniards, Portuguese etc.
Consider this, calling a Castilian or Portuguese speaking, native or afro descendant living in 'latin' America a 'Latino/a' because they speak a Latin-based language, would be akin to calling an Australian aborigine or a New Zealand Maori a Germanic, Germano something or other because they speak a Germanic based langugage (English) or an Anglo something or other because they speak English.
It was actually a friend of mine who is 'latino' (but no longer calls himself that) told me that only people who do not know their history or identity would call themselves 'latino'.

Neither are you (unless your're Portuguese Brazilian in which case then yes).
      'Latins' is such a misnomer.
Latin people are Italians, French, Spaniards etc.
We don't call Australian aborigines or New Zealand aborigines some Anglo-anything just because they speak English or because they are mixed with White European.
A native american from Peru or Mexico is as much 'latin' or anything to do with Spanish as a native Samoan from American Samoa has with being anglo, or anything to do with England.
Just so you know the person who educated me in this whole thing is a friend of mine who said he used to be all 'latino' pride until he picked up a history book.

@@theangry7977 Quite yes, but we should be more flexible, Latino is frequently used as what should be "latinamericans" and in that case the people from the American continent who speak a language originated from Latin are those, they're related by the language in that case, however, it's true that the simple latin is pretty ambiguous.

Wife’s name is Judi and I guess the handwriting of one of the baristas was bad and she thought it said Juan. She called out Juan and looked straight at me and repeatedly called out Juan, like I didn’t understand. The girl who wrote said sorry that’s supposed to be Judi. White girl turned a deep shade of red and apologized. Needless to say this is a legit stereotype. FYI, no my name is not Juan.

I've gotten my fair share of racist comments from stupid people here. I've been even called "negra sucia" and been told to go back to the republic because I am not wanted here. My family is one of the oldest families in the town I live in, we can be traced back over 400 years. I've had to remind people many times that, A) Tainos were not white, ( Census had my family as Mestizos) and B) Many white people live in RD. My husband's family are Dominicans and they are white! Also, many are too stupid to notice that my accent is because English is my dominant language, even though I am completely fluent in Spanish. When I was in the states people didn't believe I was Puerto Rican because I didn't look like JLO! 🤣 Many thought I was Mexican, I've been called a liar many times when I tell them I'm from PR. I’ve def seen that with my husband and his family. My husband has a fast paced, corporate America leadership role, but he’s never anxious or stressed when things get busy. 💕 Also the generosity thing- they’ll give you anything without thinking a second thought. My American-ness is way more sensitive to personal space and ownership of items than they are I’ve come to realize.

One thing: continents are taught differently in different countries. In the US it's north and south America, in Latin America it's The Americas. Yo entiendo porque nos ponemos defensivos cuando refieran a los estadosunidienses como Americanos, pero si lo piensas, todos los paises tienen nombres "Venezuela, El Salvador, Mexico..." pero los Estados Unidos is just that: "The United States of America" with the word America. Es mas facil decir "American" que "United Statsian" or something. We're all American, that's true, but it's just easier to call people from the US Americans. Many other languages also don't have a name for "estadosunidiense" like in Spanish, so people just go for American.

You see how stupid your logic is? In English (and many other languages too) calling the USA simply "America" is perfectly accepted. In Spanish it's America, the continent. In English it's North America and South America the continents, and America the country. End of story. There is no problem here.

If I had to define Latin America with one word thst word would be diversity. We come from all corners of the world. There are Latinos from Asian, European, African, Middle Eastern, background. We Latins come in all sizes, heights and colors. And because we are SO diverse stereotypes will always be inaccurate.
