“America” for Latin Americans is the whole continent. United States is the country. It’s quite confusing when Americans or other nationals refer to it as America.

The problem is USA's name is too generic. Kind vague. No offenses though😅 They call it this way because they wouldn't predict that other colonies would want to be free from their colononizers, I guess. It was the first nation to do that, they were located in the continent of America, they'll adopt the organization of states instead of provinces and they'll united in this new kind of state, so United States of America. 🤷‍♂️

The thing about leaving the parent's home, in Brazil at least, is that the majority of young adults would love to get out of their parent's house, but it is EXPENSIVE, for the majority of brazilians it is not a choice, and if you really want to get out you will have a really hard life, will pay a lot to live in really cheap house located at not that safe and cool neighbourhoods.

But i agree with u in the part where is hard to leave the parents house. Cuz honestly, is better, if u work, u can come back from the work, tired, and have someone to help u out, with food, clean stuff and etc...

This happens too with countries like Argentina and Uruguay due to larger European migration to these countries; nothing wrong with it, and it doesn't have to be something "good", it's just natural due to historical factors. Once again, I find it puzzling how some titles can perpetuate misconceptions. World Friends, Have you ever considered the possibility that Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Brazil and so many other countries are also part of America? Therefore, labeling people from these countries as "Latin girls" is somewhat wrong they should be recognize as AMERICANS. Referring to the region as "Latin America" makes no sense at all. Firstly, "Latin" refers to a language, not a race. By this logic, inhabitants of the United States and parts of Canada would be labeled as "Anglo-Americans," while Quebec would fall under "Latin-America" category due to its French-speaking population. Moreover, countries in America where Dutch or other languages are spoken also challenge this simplistic classification. Why do people assume that everything "under" USA is just "Latins"? Even within Spanish-speaking countries like Uruguay and Argentina, there are significant cultural, musical, behaviour, etc. differences. It's unfair to lump them all together simply because they share a common language. It's important for people, especially those from the United States, to improve their geography skills and recognize the diversity within the America. Confusing race with language and continent with only 1 country leads to prejudice and oversimplification. I believe this oversight may also affect people from India. When people refer to "Asian countries," they often overlook India, which is also part of Asia. The feeling of not being recognized as part of one's own continent can be frustrating. Imagine if only Italy were considered Europeans, while the rest of the continent were labeled "euro-something" - it just doesn't make any sense at all! AMERICA IS A CONTINENT, and everyone born in ANY COUNTRY IN AMERICA ARE AMERICANS.

Calm down bro, they already had done a video which they call them Americans. It is much easier to define Latin America, since there are some important differences to Canada and USA. And in geography, Québec counts as Anglo-Saxon America for the same reason as the Guiana's countries do not count as part of Latin American, but as a Caribbean country. If you just consider the language as Latin root or geography, you will lose the cultural approach from these countries.

All would be easy if we name ourselves as the truth...
People from any country of Asia it’s called Asian, the same in Africa, Europe and Oceania. Sadly in our continent we can’t just be called Americans, cause the US make themselves the title of Americans, and so, the rest of the continents would only see them as such.
The whole thing about North-America and South-America is stupid, cause that happened in all the continents. Like, doesn’t matter if you are from Japan or India, you still be called as Asian, nor if you’re from Portugal or Norway, you sill European. Even though, Central-America it’s a thing, but none count them if you still wanted to separate north to south as a different continents.
We are not the Americas, we are from America as one, from Canada to Tierra del Fuego. Latin-America and Hispanic-America it’s a wrong word to be separate and mentioned, just Americans would do thing easier and united. It’s like a joke I’ve hear:
"You know the avengers, each of them are in the organization, but what if one of them decides to called themselves as “The Avanger” like, they’re all avengers?"

In Brazil there is a law on child aggression, it has been a crime for a few years. I think it's sad that there has to be a law to show people that attacking a child is the same as attacking an adult, it's aggression, and abuse, is a human. Many people still have violent attitudes towards flip-flops, belts, etc., but it is decreasing and becoming less and less tolerable. Generally, those who still tolerate and practice it are people who were attacked in this way in childhood, are traumatized and don't know it, and think it's not a problem. Of course there is a lot of humor around this subject, but it is something very serious and needs to end.

I've always wondered why people from the U.S. call themselves "Americans." I get that their country is the United States of America, but their name could relate to the whole name to avoid disrespecting the rest of the continent and be more historically accurate. America comes from the fact that a historian who was creating an atlas said that there was information about that place thanks to that merchant (Amerigo Vespucci ). He decided to use the Spanish name "Americo," which was given to him by the crown after he married a woman from Seville. Also Américo arrived in Venezuela so it would be more accurate if they were called "americans" , people from the states would make more sense if they called themselves something different.
When it comes to geography, I've studied with a lot of international students, and they all refer to America as the continent. Only U.S. kids said it was their country. What I've heard so far was the thing about dividing into south and north and only the kids from the states would say north americans were just they while everyone else mean with demonym to mexicans, canadian, cubans, etc. Geography should be universal and accurate out of respect. If one group sees it differently, they should adjust because representation matters. That’s why Turkey changed its name to "Türkiye" to avoid the association with the bird.
I'm Chilean, and I don't mind if people associate the name with chili peppers because it’s a historical thing with Chile and Mexico. But we should all use terms that respect everyone. People from Europe are Europeans, people from Asia are Asians, people from Africa are Africans, and people from Oceania are Oceanians. It’s the same with Antarctica; we usually refer to people there by their country's name, like argentinian, chilean, russian, french, british, australian and norwegian (hope I'm not missing any country).
Since the continent is called America and we were all affected by colonization, we should all be called Americans. Even "Latin American" isn't accurate because it's usually associated with spanish speakers, band lowkey to other latin descendant such as portuguese, french a bit of italian but there's also dutch, african languages, and even native languages such as quechua, mapunzungun, etc.

We were the first country to be independent and we chose the name. The majority of the world believes that they are separate continents, minust LATAM, Spain, Portugal, and Italy. All of East Asia, Oceania, South Asia, the middle east, Eastern Europe, Northern Europe, the US and Canada, and the majority of Africa says they are separate. That is just a fact. Why not LATAM change the way they think about continents since they are clearly in the minority?

    • @user-qv4np3ur5w
      @user-qv4np3ur5w Місяць тому

Anglos don't think of America as a continent from Canada to Argentina, instead they divide it as North America and South America. Two separate continents on different continental shelves. I'm Latino too and it's crazy to me how offended or confused we get over a completely different language. Should English people get mad we say "molestar" for "to bother"? In English it's sexual abuse. Different languages define the same words differently.

I feel Lalita 🤣I'm from Panama with a very loud and big family but like two other cousins and me are the introverted ones. She's my spirit animal in a party 😅
so I can answer some questions in a general view of Panama! (I'm really introverted so somethings may not apply to everyone and I know it)
    1. greetings: cheek to cheek kisses and hugs with family and friends or a simple but bright hello for someone you're just meeting for the first time in a casual setting
    2. Living with parents: yes. even if you are married people still keep living with parents. Mostly for money issues, but if you can afford it then the couple can live alone
    3. Talking loud: yes. Talking over each other is a competition everyone participates in haha
    4. Big family: Yes. It was so common in grandparents generations to have a lot of kids but nowdays families go from 2-4 kids. But family reunions are for everyone like friends families, work friends and even the neighbors!
    5. the chancla: that I know, moms don't threaten with chanclas or throw things... but when I was young my mom would say that if a ever misbehave she was gonna hit me with a bejuco (like a wood stick that's thin so kind like a wooden whip??) Here moms just hit you with their hands like a slap
    6. dancing: folklore classes in elementary school for everyone, so as kids we all know our traditional dances like Tamborito, Cumbia, el Punto, Congo, la Denesa and others more regionals. We also dance salsa, bachata, urbano and many others like any other latin country
    7. the futbol religion: yes, it is. In Panama you either watch soccer or baseball. that's it. Fun fact: in 2018, when Panama qualified to the FIFA WC, the government gave a national day off :D
    8. Late for parties: are you even Latino if you aren't late to parties? We even say that the party will start at a time that's early to account for the lateness of people. However, if it's like a formal party like quinces, weddings ... then you come early to help the host!
    Long... too long
    this comment
... hope you learned somethinf from my country I guess

WTF is this over reductive TOKENISM galore? This is the cringest thing on UA-cam. Latin America has diversity of THOUGHT we are not monolithical as in films. If LATAM is colorful, then here are the 7 colors of the Latin American rainbow:
1 - Not every country's population speaks loudly.
2 - Not every country's population dresses in bright colors.
3 - Not all countries in Latin America has the massive extended families issue.
4 - Soccer is not N°1 in all LATAM countries as some were occupied by the US so baseball is more popular/important.
5 - The US also had a dancing culture in the 50s that reached LATAM and became part of the culture of many countries.
6 - The ''money issue'' is because of the EU embargo during the Cold War that bled LATAM's economy for 50 years straight.
7 - There is no culture of being late, this is a direct consequence of the previous fact, we don't strive to be productive because our income is garbage and our income is garbage because our exports were banned from Yurop for half a century.

No, no, no, no, noooo, what Daniela said about Living with Parent Before Marry is not completely accurate. Yes, there are some cities and small towns where society thinks that you should get married to be able to move out of the home (I have lived in a lot of deferents cities, from north to south so I know that is not as common as she is depicting it to be, maybe is half and half) and that's quickly changing. Especially when we go to college there's a lot of people that move to another town for that. And to be honest we live with our parents until we get married because most of the time we can't afford to move out. After getting married, in most couples, both persons work, so there's two incomes that can make affordable to move out. And yes, some of us, we try to live with our partner before marriage.

About the football part in Brazil it's a bit controversial, for example, most of it doesn't have football as their favorite sport, we often don't see much about the games, and a part that I know He just doesn't care (me for example), but even so we all have a team, we all had some experience playing or we've already had a little chat about the game that happened, so yes, it's important for us.

Funk and Samba are huge in Brazil, pretty much nationalwise - but there's many more popular dances in massive regions up to the size and population of most other latin american countries... forró, for instance (which is nowadays near to mostly known abroad sertanejo).
Also there's pleny music styles which doesn't requires dancing for chill or enjoy it.

Soccer, unlike american football which also uses the hands, is the most famous sport and has the most fans in the world, while american football has fans only in the United States, they even say that the winner of their tournament is world champion, played in only one country.
Latinos have a strong connection with their family, especially with their parents, unlike europeans and americans of european descent, who seem to me to be colder than latinos, who are kinder and more affectionate than them.

I prefer the 🇪🇸 mañana culture over 🇫🇮 Finland's punctuality. For me, it's either the performance or the punctuality, not both. Probably that's why I felt more at home in the Spanish (my major) classes at the uni than in those of English (my minor). In high school, I barely got through in the languges (English, Swedish and Spanish) because everything seemed so heavily focused on the punctuality (or that's how I perceived it). So, I truly applaud that the 2024 Finnish Eurovision entry is called 🇫🇮 Windows95man "No Rules". Speaking of which, I must say that after cha cha cha was mentioned, I obviously had to pause and listen to the 2023 Eurovision winner 🇫🇮🥥 Käärijä "Cha Cha Cha". No, it wasn't 🇸🇪 Loreen "Tattoo". 😝

people keep talking like: “we are not Latinos”, “Latin America doesn’t exist”. BORING. That’s not only about history, that’s about a political and cultural identity. Recognize yourself as a Latino is assume your culture. A culture that for centuries has been minimized by the europeans. Our land was stolen and exploited and we keep dealing with the consequences of all the depredation. So, the way how we are loud, warm and happy it’s just a way of resistance beyond so much suffering along the time

    • @chrispresta3048
      @chrispresta3048 4 місяці тому +8

You're talking about native indigenous people, not "latinos". It was their lands and their cultures that were affected and minimised (though not deleted) by foreigners as it's always happened in every single country that's ever existed. But you must remember that those foreigners (Europeans) soon became also part of the locals when they mixed with the Indigenous people and with the Africans that were brought and, guess what!, we're their offspring. We're the children of Europeans, Africans and Native Americans, therefore our cultureS are a mix of European, Native American and African heritage. That's what makes us mestizos and "latinos". Denying one of those elements that make up our identity is like denying yourself.
