- Professional chef Saúl Montiel from Cantina Rooftop and home cook Daniel are swapping materials and hitting the kitchen for a gnocchi throwdown! We set Daniel up with a treasure chest of ingredients from chef Saul’s kitchen, along with a recipe for his eye-popping $301 gnocchi. Meanwhile, over in chef Saul’s kitchen, a much more modest $14 worth of ingredients were being finessed by the executive chef in a quest to improvise his way up to gourmet. Saul is not simple. He’s deep and complicated.

I think what he's saying is that simple but done with the correct technique isn't simplistic. In other words lazy food is simplistic, and boring.

This just might be my favorite episode ever! The two of them are so charming, competent, humorous, and brotherly. Their back and forth banter is hilarious. The food looks amazing, as usual. Everything about this episode was dialed up to 10 and beyond.

I think we can all agree-- Frank and Saúl are the dads, Yuji is the successful older kid that you only see during holidays, Emily and Daniel are the twins, and Lorenzo is the uncle that lives with them.
I loved that side by side as they both boil the gnocchi. The chef adds triple the salt to the water! Saul and Frank know what's up😅
Good chefs usually use a lot more butter and salt than what's recommended. What's recommended is usually healthier, of course... but if you're gonna make a dish for a special occassion, health should be the last thing on your mind. And well, that's besides the fact that salt and butter aren't as unhealthy as is generally claimed.
