That’s pretty incredible…this old guy may look into getting one..love that orange….! Great video…!
I just got a blue Censtar, mine had no string tree and the E string was stuck under the frets it had come out of the nut slot, easy fix. Frets were perfect it was intonated as well. The neck fit tight no gaps. So far I'm happy got it based on this video, Thanks Scar My Guitar!
You've got an awesome wife. I love cheap guitars and wish my wife would buy me more. lol.. The big ass Bowie knife to open the box is a nice touch.
BTW.. I love the orange with roasted maple. Your wife has good taste!
I'm not usually a fan of Tele guitars but this one looks pretty sick. I might be sold on one of these.
The guitar has some solid bones. I agree about the pickups. A little dark in humbucker and a little thin in single coil. Keep rocking Sean, God bless.
That sounds great unplugged, great resonation
Wow Coinstar makes a pretty nice guitar
Loving these budget reviews! Keep ‘em coming, please- you’re doing a real public service for those of us always looking for a cheap and decent beater.
The thing about these off brand guitars nowadays is that the basic construction is astoundingly decent given the pricepoints, but where their affordability comes to light is in the electronics they use. Most the time the pots, switch, and pickups are where they fall short. Even the tuners for these economically friendly guitars are better than yesteryear's offerings. Sure they aren't Grover or Schaller quality but they seem to hold tune much better than late 80s and 90s Squiers and such.
I truly believe that the majority of these off branded instruments are impeccable buys for those who want to customize a guitar to suit the tone and style they are into and not cost a ton of money in the process. Sure they do not have the resale value of a Gibson, PRS, or Fender but you devalue those guitars significantly the moment you alter them from stock formation so unless you are a brand snob and feel that the name on the headstock is worth the premium you will pay, a Harley Benton, Mitchell, AIO, Wolf, Eart, SBS, IYV, Slick, Sire, and so on are perfect for a base upon which to build your personal weapon of tone.
The funny thing is that peoole immediately dismiss these off brands because they are made in Indonesia, China, or Korea. Well Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, Yamaha, Jackson, Gretsch, ESP, Warwick, BC Rich, Guild, Epiphone, Strandberg, and several more prestigious name brands all have contracts with manufacturers in these countries to build their entry and intermediate level guitars, banjos, and such. So if these are decent units why would we assume that house brands from these same manufacturers are somehow far more inferior instruments? Truthfully, in some regards they are actually better units in that they use stainless frets, satin finishes on the necks, locking tuners, roller string trees, and alnico magnet pickups where Fender and other companies still insist oon nickel silver frets, gloss finished necks, and ceramic pickups to "bring down costs" yet still come in at a higher price than an EART, Harley Benton, or AIO. Some of which come out of the exact same factories. I have come to the conclusion that the name on the headstock no longer can be associated with the quality of an instrument.
Good lord, are we in sync or what? LOL I've got the new HSS strat style from Censtar on the way!
Nice!
I have been eyeing these up. These and Fesley seem like the best on the cheapest, for 2023.
Thanks for a great demo. Nice to hear a familiar accent!
I’ve got the blue one. I got it in the first run back in March.
Nice fret work on this one!
I didn’t think bridge sounded to bad but neck pu was real muddy
Rock on Sean 🤘🎸
Sounds and looks great. Try some SIT strings. I've been using them lately and I love them.
Always enjoy your content great 👍 thanks 🙏 you 😊
Great video! That tone was great and the guitar looks like it’s great quality for the price.
That Censtar Guitar is one badass Guitar! I am defintely geeting one. Thank you for the presentation...🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Good work again brother 👍
Yup, I'll take it. Love the Color as well.
just got my Censtar in the mail from Amazon today... couldn't open it up right away, but I just tuned it up, and holy balls....intonation WITH the 3 saddles and a plain G. The Low E was tuned, and the other strings were sort of within a full tone or 1-1/2 away. Even these strings don't feel bad, and I will plug it in tomorrow and see how it shreds. I usually swap the neck for a P90..., so that'll prolly happen, but I'm intrigued to hear these pickups just to see if they could be thrown in a different project just to play. Got it on sale for $170 with shipping.... white classic Tele versus the coil tap double HH version. Your reviews have been phenomenal, and this one is a great guitar from what I can tell already. The neck alone was prolly worth what they charged.
Just unboxed this. No issues whatsoever. Pretty badass. Shockingly so actually. Knock feels a lil chunky, got used to it in a few minutes. I have a baretta special I did a bunch of mods to. Pot, nut, tuners, saddles, frets leveled. Im just gonna rock this one as is.
pick mine up today. this helps reinforce my decision. let yall know my first impressions. Thanks!
I got one before you made the video and I absolutely agree with your assessment. I want to change pickups but kinda don’t because of the coil switch. Can you make a vid showing how to make a change in pickups and show us how to wire the switch? A big fan of yours🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Now that's a knife, God Bless your Wonderful Wife ! That thing's ripe for some Gretsch Broadtrons
I liked the Censtar as I'm a fan of bolt necks because if get a guitar that the neck doesn't fit your hand right then it's easily corrected by replacing the existing neck. Love the direct mount pickups, though I didn't like the pickups tone. At this price id put in a set of Duncan or DiMarzios. Love locking tuners so I would put in locking Grovers. Great video
I bought one of these a few months ago and added a new bridge with a whammy bar. Wow! -I like it better than my Strat.
I have one of these and it's pretty amazing for the money. I've had it a few months. I am definitely going to upgrade the pickups and probably the tuners, but with a good setup it's totally playable with no upgrades
JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL AND I LUV IT !!!!!!!!!
Thanks Sean for Keeping IT Real...
OH well lookey here! You already did the review! Gonna watch, this one has me thinking
Sounds pretty good, though I’d have loved to hear the cleans.
I had tuners like this on my old 1991 Fender American Standard Strat. They were Fender-branded, but besides that they looked identical.
Sounds great!
Those pick ups sound pretty good !!
I can't believe the frets were so level!
Looks and sounds fabulous.
I've got a Harley Benton T-style with a fretboard that looks very similar. They label it as baked Sungkai.
That neck position, on the single coul setting, soynds as good as my Squire tele!
Great value.
Shove a couple guitar picks in that neck pocket gap. It'll keep it from moving around. I did it on my first real guitar i bought in 97 or 98. It was a cheap-o jackson dinky. Worked like a charm.
Awesome review.
Glad you enjoyed it
Phenomenal guitar. Put on brass saddles and locking tuners. Screams.
Finally someone who uses a "real" knife like I do to unbox a guitar. Gotta show it who's boss right from the beginning! 😆
I've been looking at a lot of budget teles lately. For a project guitar. This one might be the winner at that price. Now I need to research which humbuckers are best for coil-splitting.
When you see a hole in the neck pocket, it's where they hang it on a hook when they shoot the paint on the body.
#notificationsquad, since it helps the channel! Im still not a Tele fan, but it isn't terrible. Still prefer the unique guitars, personally. Cheers, brother!
'at thing is plum purty! Looks like we may need to get one of 'em into Huntsville! As long as the neck's tight to the body, you should be good. That bridge pickup's so hot, we could smoke a butt on it! What if you lower the pickup height a bit? Should clear up the muddiness of the neck.
Since the neck used 4 bolts, you probably don't need to worry, but it was mine, I'd put in a shim or fill the gap with wood glue. Let me know how it works ouut, OK?
I would put a shim in between the neck and the body, then put some Bareknuckle pickups in it. It would be a great gigging guitar. 👍
Do u own any Firefly guitars? I just bought one and they have really up their game the past few years. Stainless steel Fretts, Bone nut, alnico 5 pickups, locking tuners, truss rod adjustment in the middle area, roasted maple neck, for 200 dollars.
You're good. Hey Man, your gonna drive up the prices on this guitar. That's ok I got mine and it is a winner.
Great guitar,,!
Looks like Jatoba for the fretboard ? That gap is a send back for me. It's cosmetic really as long as the 4 neck screws keep it from moving. It won't crack from being too tight of a fit. But to me it's unsightly for close to what a Squier costs. I like the classic single coil Teles, leave the P90's & HH to the LP style body guitars.
The middle position, that's always going to be the difference between the Neck & Bridge positions, the pickups are wired in parallel.
Thanks for the 10:52 lick, I am a firm believer that everyone has something to teach me!
That glip will mean a lot as it will give room for the neck to move and it will not need much.
Strings will create an hell of an tension, the player and weather conditions....
Four bolts say not
Sean who can I call to pick up my 2002 Suburban in Fullerton Ca and transport to my home in Yelm Wa. That is reasonable on rates?
Nice sounding git!
Do you have a guitar store? I'm just wondering what you do with all these guitars.
Sean, a $200 guitar that ONLY needs a set of high end pickups and perhaps a hardware change, to sound like a San Dimas Style 2? I was gonna get a LP, or even a Monsoon from Leo Jaymz. But this one rings with me! I still AM getting the Monsoon, but it will be May or June! Gonna start doing my own reviews, not as high quality as yours, but you set my standard
I thought the pups sounded fine but I am not hearing them in person. Never even heard of this brand, looks like a killer starter guitar.
Thanks for another affordable option.
Thar's quite the butter knife you've got there, Sean.
This looks like an EART T380 without the wiggle stick.
Great budget guitar 😊
Hey Sean, did you sell this thing?
Shawn ( sorry if misspelled) Dude I use a ICON PLATES, Plate on all my bolt ons... well except for my one USA strat. Or the one I have like that one here your playing. They are only $22 bucks each, and Dude they make that neck area look COOL AF..😮 I'm not associated with or a stock holder lol, just a VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER. I saw them on Dr. GROOVEY'S CHANNEL...CYA
Which tele do you think is better, the indio or this one (for upgrading)?
Without a doubt this one.
I can't believe how freaking good that cheap tele sounds!
Right on buddy. Cool guitar and video. 👍👏🎸🎸💯. Thanks 👍👍
I dig it.
I am fretting over the fifth fret.
That's frettin fantastic!
Can anyone comment on the fret ends relative to any protrusion over the fretboard edges? I.E fret sprout. Another reviewer said there were many bumpy fret ends that made playing the guitar painful.
Not mine! Censtar rules all the budget guitars I've seen!
Yes I want that outfit that I can donate strings to.
It needs pickups, needs a plate, how's the action, what's the radius on the neck, is the tone pot weak, plastic nut?
Have to use some wood putty to fill that gap on the neck.
I like the contours but they're not really Tele, maybe it's more comfortable, I'll never know.
Dangit man I'm trying to figure out the riff that starts at about 8:55. I know it but I cant place it. Somebody help.
Sounds pretty damn good. I'm impressed. 😎🤓
Looks like a great mod platform, but for me most of the fun of a cheap guitar is making it playable.
Scary knife
Middle sounds out of phase to me with either coil setting, and the low reading you got in the middle. I hate to crack a neck open on anything that doesn't need it, for that kind of money I guess you're not risking a lot, but feels like you're killing the mojo on anything older especially. I'm sold! I love a good cheap guitar.
Best of luck finding one, I just tried and you'll find a Leprechaun before one of these.
Amazon gots bunches.
Just sayin
Hi! Look like Alder, or Beech tree neck
Looks like it's made in the same factory as eart guitars.
What’s the weight on guitar? Thanks
Their comically light
If the guitar can be intonated, and it's playable and feels good, I wouldn't worry at all about a little gap in the neck pocket that no one else will notice. Great guitar for the money.
Headstock is way less potato than Leo James. I like it.
Greetings from New Hampshire.ove your channel. Where's this purchased from?
Check description
Yeah, I'm done buying cheap guitars. I'm just waiting for yours to come out.
Aaaaahhhhh! That styrofoam squeaking is killing me ! Tensed up with bad case of the willies! Turned sound down for the beginning.
These look like the Eart guitars just with a different headstock - agreed?
yes they are the same factory
@@scarmyguitar Thanks. I see they also offer a traditional Tele pickup configuration. I appreciate your channel - thanks so much.
That seems like a really sweet guitar, and it sounded really good too. Unreal they can ship
That to your door for 179… wow. Also what is that taped up Les Paul on the wall? 🤨🧐
Shhhhhhh
the action looked good. the frets looked good. the bridge looked good. I love the roasted maple. Most of all, I liked the body forearm cut and the belly cut for a more comfortable feel. I think I'll buy one and put in a couple of Seymour Duncan pickups. Since it's not a fender, it will depreciate a lot. So if I buy one, it's guitar to keep until I die.
Sounds awesome
Could you please give the weights for ALL these guitars. It's the only thing wrong with your reviews. Thanks man.
I don't understand what yer doin with the ohms meter
He's measuring the DC resistance or how "hot" those humbucker are.
From the interwebs:
For a Fender Telecaster Lead tone, the popular DC resistance is around 6.2k to 6.6k, and 7.6k for Fender Telecaster Rhythm. For Gibson PAF Humbuckers, they are usually around 8.4k, and 8.6k for Gibson P-90s.
Those pickups above were mainly for genres like blues, rock, jazz and pop - where we don’t really need a crazy hot pickup that will distort easily, and maybe just need enough for some overdrive. For a pickup that is built for hard rock and even metal, like the new Ernie Ball Music Man Majesty, they are loaded with DiMarzio Rainmaker neck pickup and a DiMarzio Dreamcatcher bridge.
Just to give you a perspective, they have an Ohm reading of 11.62k for the neck and 14.4k for the bridge. Now if we’re looking at full on metal guitars like Jackson Rhoads, they are loaded with Jackson High Output Ceramic Humbuckers.
These have a DC resistance level of around 13k, and some Jackson pickups can even go up to 17.4k of DC resistance. Clearly, you can get a rough sense of the different purpose that each of these pickups have - whether it’s for a clean, funky Strat tone or for a Meshuggah cover band.
The fretboard has been grain-filled and Maple does not have open pore grain.
It'd look a lot better with any kind of a cool whammy bar 🎶🎸 rock on dude!
I like the knife best😊
I always wanted an orange guitar.
Hey crocodile Dundee.. you need a bigger knife..😮..pewq
How much it weigh?
