THE BEST GUITAR DEAL ON AMAZON?? Fojill Relic Telecaster REVIEW!

  • UPDATE 5/15/24: Well, the day after this vid went up this guitar was sold out (I’d love to take credit but likely just coincidence). I don’t know if this will help, but maybe if people are adding this to their Amazon lists, Fojill will restock. As a reminder, not sponsored in any way. I get no $ from Amazon or Fojill, just trying to pass along good finds: a.co/d/1yl7d6W
Hey friends! I'm back (sorta...for a bit..hehe) with a review of what I consider a great deal for anyone looking for a relic T-style geetar without breaking the piggybank. Here I play and review this thing COMPLETELY stock...right out of the box. Then asses what it needs, give it some love and see what we get. While I'm at it, let's compare it to a MUCH more expensive T with Lollars..ya know...just for kicks.
    00:00 Intro
00:40 PLAYING the stock guitar with unboxing
02:11 Why I bought this one
02:52 Stage One! Totally stock setup run through.
04:20 Tip to Toe. Running down the specs.
07:51 PLAYING stock guitar with stage one setup
08:17 Stage One assessment. What this thing is and what it needs.
10:41 Stage Two (cheesy music via Suno) work tape. Full tear down, setup, and re-assemble.
12:33 Quick word re: fret work
12:51 Back to work (even worse “song” via Suno)
13:50 PLAYING after Stage Two work. I lost my voice, so… you’ll have to read some stuff for the info
14:17 Mini VS. Video…Sound comparison of the Fojill and a Blevins T with Lollar ‘52 pickups.
16:00 PLAYING Oodles of noodles with a few final thoughts.

It was a very good idea to put the unboxing down in the corner, while doing the demo, and unboxing by itself is dreadfully boring.

Hi, My name is Gary, I'm 72 and semi-retired from gigging. Now I like to build/mod/restore guitars in my small home shop. I agree with your price for work. My prices are also influenced by attitude and ability to pay. LOL I also take parts removed, trade in's, exceptional deals, make them easily playable and donate them to "guitars for vets". This one looks like a candidate for that! All of these sub $200 guitars are a lot better than what we had to work with in the late 60's!! The "Sire" brand are as good as the Gibsons and Fenders of the 70's, at $600!! First time here, I enjoyed your video! Good luck with everything!! Peace, --gary

You play very well and that may be what is impressing me but the guitar sounds frigging great. For the price of dinner for 3 I thought I would give it a try. I could always just have it tuned in DADGAD and keep my other tele as is. If I really like it I can put a set of Twang Kings and a 4 way switch in it like my other tele. Gotta love the tele, so simple and pure. No floating bridge BS I have 2 strats that gather dust along with the Reverends and Gibsons. All I play is the Tele and the PRS DGT these days. Its enough. Best luck on your health situation from another sufferer of different chronic debilitating health conditions that have one eventual result. Music is one of the one thing that can still elevate my spirit these days. Not much else holds value to me other than family.

Out of the box, your guitar is set up exactly where I set mine, 1.75 in the low E, and between 1.5 and 1.75 on the high E. From what I've seen on UA-cam, that guitar company seems to have its stuff together.

Positive thoughts headed your way from my dog (she beat cancer) and me :) Very nice playing, which is appreciated when someone is reviewing a guitar (of any price). No T-style guitars listed on Amazon. Hopefully that's a temporary issue, cuz I'd like to snag one of these.
Those stock pups don't sound bad. The Lollars have more going on as you'd expect, but for $160 those pups sound pretty decent. Teles are so much fun!

Pups make a world of difference. I also remove tone pot from neck...add brass saddles...love my budget Teles (CV's, HB) as much as my higher end ones...Mex, Japan, USA (G&L, LSL TBone , Pro 2, and even a Custom Shop). Get some....

So it looks like it could use a better three way switch, and definitely CTS or Bourns pots. Those look like the mini pots, but couldn't tell for sure. If so, I'd replace them. I know that the smaller pots are probably fine, as long as the quality is there, but there's a psychological element. Hope your treatment is successful. I have a good friend who was given her cancer diagnosis and six months to live back in 2015. She opted to go the unconventional route and did a lot of research, found some promising if unconventional treatments. She's still alive and doing well to this day. It's her opinion that if she'd gone with the chemo, she wouldn't be here today. Make of that what you will, but if nothing else, take it to say cancer is *not* a death sentence. I wish you the best.

great review, The Lollar tele did have a maple fretboard so I guess thats going to make it a tad brighter, having said that the Fojill had quite a nice mellower tone that I felt was very useable as is. I guess if you're buying a similar style guitar in this case a tele you really dont want to have 2 guitars that sound the same.....there is no point in that so I think the Fojill offers another sound palette there.

Im fortunate to own and couple of vintage Fender Teles and a Squire 40th anniversary Tele.
On youtube, the 40th anniversary has been given, by all the channels who basically cut and paste each others revenues, criticism for its neck pick up, muddy they all say, i think its sounds Vintage.
To my ears the Fojlll neck pup sounds very vintage 50s
Where as the Blevins neck pup, in my opinion, is too bright. So my points go to the Fojlll here.
To keep things budget i might swop out neck for a Squire maple.
Great review, sweet playing. First time here, subbed.👍🏼

I have the Strat version, light relic mahogany body and I LOVE it. The radius of the neck is super flat, which takes some getting used to. Also, the electronics were the same cheap garbage that comes in all budget Strats, so I put together a loaded pickguard with alnico v pickups and a wiring harness with big 500k pots and thick braided wires. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's nearly as good as my MIM Fender Strat. I paid $120 for the guitar on eBay and probably like $80 on upgrades.

Well it has been some time seeing your videos.
I’m quit impressed with what you got for your money.
Yes you’re not going to get high quality hardware but man, not bad at all.
When you put up a good Telly and compared the side by side.
You certainly could hear that the $160 guitar pickups were a little muddy and didn’t have that good sharp twang, but respectable. I agree with you either replace the pickups or try some different capacitors . And yes, let’s go to a 5way switch.
    Can’t wait…..👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The ceramic pickups sound remarkably close to the Lollers, but the Fojill seems to either have a little less sustain or else the pickups are a little more biting? Either way, it sounds like an extraordinary guitar for under $20. As always, you're playing is smoooooth

I’m gonna guess that the four screw bridge on this is “import” size/spacing. Can’t say for certain but likely anything that’ll fit an import Fender. Guyker has a relic’d bridge for $20 and I’ll likely swap that out next week (with some Wilkinson saddles)…I’ll try to respond here if it fits and with spacing.

For the price it's definitely a good starter guitar and with a little work, an actual gigging guitar. Fret end dressing for me is imperative! That's what I love most about Sire guitars as well as the quality! Great review, you hit every value point! Ugh always the neck hole in the body, totally unnecessary (not your fault). Plastic nut I would assume for the price point? WOW much spankier sounding after you have it some TLC and fresh shoes (strings) nice job! Pickups actually don't sound too bad either! Well done!
