    Sean you seriously hooked me up! Thank you! You’re a great friend and I’m really grateful you are encouraging me to get my UA-cam channel going. Means the world to me. That 335 is just absolutely killer. And now it’s playing so sweet. Can’t wait to jam it at my gig! Scarred my guitar in a good way.

    Wow, Trey! That thing is sick! That’s a special guitar for sure. I would love a 335 someday. It’s the perfect combo to play both as an electric or acoustic. Yours is so loud and resonant acoustically, you could probably just mic it up and play a sweet song with it - and then pop the plug in and shred!

      @@flintdavis2 typically bridges on gibsons or tune o matic bridges are sharp in the saddles and break the strings there too quickly. So I wrap the high strings over the tailpiece to alleviate some of that tension and make my strings last longer.

    I just picked up an EART 335 that I stole from a guy for $120. Leveled the stainless steel frets and the guitar sings and the neck feels amazing. While I don't particularly like the way a 335 lays against the body, this one is super light and sounds frickin amazing. If you're looking for a cheap 335 I highly recommend one of these I don't think you can do much better considering the specs.

    Since everything is already grounded to eachother in the wiring, shielding paint or tape shouldn't be necessary at all. As long as its properly grounded and the pickups are potted correctly you're good. I have several guitars with no shielding at all that are extremely quiet even on high gain. My brother in law gave me some pickups out of a epiphone es335 he swapped out because they squealed. I potted them and threw em in a v i made and they definitely don't squeal anymore.

    It's so funny I have the exact same guitar from the same year with the same burst and everything. My story is almost exactly the same I went to my local Guitar Center with a bunch of money to blow and played every high-end guitar in there and it was the last one I played and new it was the one the second I started hitting chords. It's my favorite guitar I've got a dozen and none of them come close to that one

    Talk about funky smell… I bought a used Gibson midtown custom for dirt cheap, amazing sounding and playing guitar… but it has perfume infused into the nitro. I can’t get it out… ozone, Naptha, nothing. Been sitting out on a stand for 3 months still out-gasses when it warms up during playing.

    Hey Shawn (my apologies if I chose the wrong spelling of your name). is that a Fret Dagger that you are using to crown those frets? I have one and the thing that sets it apart from all of the others that I know of is the fact that rather than being a diamond grit thing scratching the living crap out of the frets. it's actually a very fine quality file in that hollow so it cuts the fret meta rather than scratches and gouges, making for less sanding ( I prefer micromesh pads and a Dremel with felt wheel as a finisher) for buttery smooth feeling frets that shine like all get out. Has that been your experience with the Fret Dagger as well? I don't know if there's anything like it on the market. It was definitely not cheap, but it was a great investment for me. I've been watching your show for a while now, I like your down-to-earth approach. At first, I thought you always played those same chords every time because maybe you just loved power ballads by Poison, but then it dawned on me that those particular open chords will ring out super ugly if there are intonation issues with the bridge saddles or the nut has been incorrectly cot like no other quick test really shows. I watch closely, you have a wealth of great real-world knowledge here that you are generously sharing here for those who are paying attention, and I appreciate it very much, so enough key tappin" time to watch the rebirth of a beautiful 335 happen! Cheers!

    Shielding is important not only from poor waxed pickups, but also from being an antenna for outside interference. Gibson does a better job because of the metal outside shielding wire compared to rubber shielding.
    I make my own with paint and powdered graphite. 😉

    You don't need shielding for humbuckers.

    • @MashaT22
      @MashaT22 6 місяців тому +1

      That’s not true - you’re confusing electronic interference with 60 cycle hum. Humbuckers buck that 60 cycle hum, but they won’t stop electronic interference and/or microphonics. They’re all different things.
      It’s not really the pickup that is the problem where electronic interference is concerned - from cell phones, computers, plugs, etc. It’s usually the wiring causing that interference issue with other electronics, and that’s why shielding might be needed in the cavity. If you hear noise, the pickup is only involved because you’re gonna hear that electronic noise through the pickup - but it’s not the actual pickup that’s the cause of the problem because pickups are simply converting string noise via magnets and then that noise signal is transferred through the wiring all the way to the amp.
      Some wiring is fine without shielding, like Sean said. A great test is to hold a cell phone near the pickups and pots where the wiring is connected. Make sure the cell phone is on and the guitar is connected to your amp. If there’s gonna be a potential issue, a cell phone WiFi or Bluetooth radio will definitely set it off. If you don’t hear noise from a cell phone, it’s very unlikely that you’ll need shielding for other electronics. If you start hearing radio noise through the pickups, then you’ll want the shielding.
      I don’t know if I’m explaining this clearly, but that’s more or less how it works. I hope I helped you understand what you seem to be confusing! 😊🤘🏻🎸
