I worked at eurocom as part of the QA team. Worked on Rio, Disney, Harry potter, golden eye.. Activision drove the projects in to the ground. I didn't play BO2 online much, but the previous games on Wii were really fun because of the wii remote aiming, and even though i owned a ps3 and 360, i played the wii version of WaW and CoD4:Reflex quite a bit. it added much more depth to the aiming system, but it took a while to get your settings right, or get good enough to just shrink the deadzone all the way down. The problem though was wii online sucked, so you had lots of problems with "lag shooting" (you had to aim ahead of enemies when they moved) and just overall low resolution and framerate.

There was a nasty "glitch" called "Doubletapping" where you were respawned into dying within milliseconds of returning to the battle, taking two deaths in the span of seconds with no choice other than to take it or leave. To be honest, motions controls/pointer controls are one of the best ways to play a shooter. That's why even though Splatoon has duel analogue controls most tend to use the motion controls because it allows for far better accuracy when compared to twin stick shooting. Heck, when Doom 2016 was brought to the Switch many fans wanted pointer controls because of this very fact, and they delivered, as well as Gyro controls. The biggest problem with quite a few FPS games on the Wii wasn't the controls, it was the optimization and how poor it could be.

It sad to hear people diminishing motion controls for shooters , that's like the best way motion controls could be used (honestly it's pointer controls), with the right configuration you could be as precise as you wanted and the only games that managed to have that level of customization was the Activision games

Small correction: Nintendo didn't have anything to do with the cancellation of the XBLA version. It all came down to Rare not having the rights to the Bond Licence and thus the Licence holders canned it as they already didn't like the original game much as to them it did things they didn't like (Such as all the blood, it's depiction of Bond, etc). Notice how a lot of Bond games after the original GoldenEye didn't do many things it did.
But anyway this is an excellent review, you pretty much sum up my thoughts: an ok at best game on it's own but to me a terrible remake that is frankly insulting with how badly it butchers the original movie and game. @@TheFEARSlayer01 Do not confuse publishing and distribution. When you have a distributor, you find the money to make the production, and you carry the financial risk of developing the title, and the distributor prints copies and brings them to stores, but you have the ownership of the intellectual property afterwards. When you have a publisher, the publisher has full control and ownership of the final property, but publisher also carries the risk, and pays you as developer in 'milestones' which usually come every 1-3 months, so in a publisher system, you do work-for-hire. There are some complications on top but this is the basic gist.
Often, there is a clause for example in publishing contract, that over revenue of X, developer also gets late royalties. Or that after Y years, if the publisher does nothing with the franchise, developer gets full ownership from the publisher transferred. But these are exceptions more so than the rule.
So indeed you say yourself Nintendo was publisher on the title. If there was no extra ownership transfer agreement, Nintendo owns it. But you need more parties to reach an agreement due to lapsing old contracts and changes in structure.

I genuinely think this game was an underappreciated gem, and bundling the gold controller was another huge mistake imo. It basically gives the idea the game is meant to be played with the controller, which when done, really just becomes a bland COD clone like it's portrayed throughout the video.
The motion controls actually added depth to the game too, like allowing tilt around corners when holding the C button on the nunchuck etc. It basically gave the game the complexity of movement and twitch aiming (at long range, at least) of a PC game.

Retrospective time: I grew playing N64 with my cousins, so when the time came to get my own system, my parents pushed me towards the choice of a Wii. It was fine, until my friends all started talking about COD, Halo, and Assassin's Creed in school while I was stuck with Wii Sports and Mario Kart. I wanted to try something similar to what they had, but there was no way my parents would have gotten another console in the same generation and so asked my mother for Goldeneye. On Black Friday of 2011, we got Goldeneye with a Classic Controller, and it gave me a glimpse of what the other consoles had. As this was the first fps game I ever had, my skill in multiplayer was terrible, but I had lots of fun playing the singleplayer and multiplayer modes. To this day, I like for what it is as it gave Wii players some of that COD-like experience on a different system that it was made for (as in developed for the Wii in mind, not an afterthought like the COD ports). Also, I discovered my love for EDM and Deadmau5 by listening to I Remember for the first time ever in this game. It completely opened my 11 year old eyes to a whole new style of music that I probably wouldn't found out about just on normal pop radio. For these reasons, Goldeneye 007 holds a very special place in my heart.

But as a Campaign (I won't get into multiplayer, which appears to have its own merits), it's simply a mediocre remake; essentially the best of Brosnan Bond stripped down and made into a Craig Bond entry.
It was robbed of GoldenEye's style and spectacle, and this new game replaces those factors with a mediocre campaign that is nearly as dull and lifeless as its reimagined characters.
If it was meant to stand on its own, then naming it 'GoldenEye' wasn't the best idea.
But as a cashgrab, using that title was a strong move; it's really the most memorable part of the single player campaign on 360 and PS3 (one can argue that the situation was far different on Wii).
There's also the problem that this game is working on two levels as far as expectation: it is automatically referencing both the film and N64 game, yet it does next to nothing to improve on the latter, nor does it make improvements (thanks to more modern tech) that would (should?) allow it to be a more cinematic retelling of the former.
      Pointless (outside $$$).
It's a depressing release for those that cared about the original zeitgeist around the film and game from 1995-98, and simply another mediocre licensed game to most others.
Imagine waiting 13 years for this. Ugh.

I played the Wii version in around 2012 or so, and absolutely loved it! I had memories of the N64 original, but I was too young to remember things like level layouts, so I was genuinely really happy with this remake.

My dad pre-ordered me this game when it released on the Wii (the one with the controller which I think made it, I even bought a second for friends). I absolutely loved it. I played both the single player and the multiplayer for hours. That's the one game I ever played multiplayer on the Wii and it was really good. Maybe some of my most fond and formative online gaming memories.

wow this brought back so many memories. I just had a wii in high school and was so jealous of everyone enjoying really good online shooters on 360/ps3. But this game and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 was my jam. I hopped online every day after school and like to think i got pretty good. never played a competitive shooter like this, and won't again. Great video

Wow, fantastic video! Your video popped up in my UA-cam feed, and I'm glad it did! Big James Bond fan here, and yes I love Goldeneye as well! Now I'm ashamed to admit this, but I've never played the original N64 Goldeneye. However, I did own a Wii back when I was in middle school, and I bought (or was gifted? I can't remember.) the Goldeneye 007 remake game. Holy. Shit! What an awesome game that is! I am VERY nostalgic for that game, and have very fond memories playing the single player story mode, and multiplayer with my best friend. He hated when I would play as Odd-job and kill him with a hat. Paint ball mode was great too! I always wanted that dam gold Wii Classic controller Pro, but never got it. Hopefully I'll find it some day! Great review video! Really brought me back to middle school, and playing it for the first time! As for Goldeneye 007 Reloaded, I've never played that version but would like to buy it for both PS3 and Xbox 360 because of how much I enjoyed that originally on the Wii.

My friend from secondary school is budding director and when we were younger he made bond spoof films. In our downtime we played this in split screen and 007 Legends split screen.
I asked my parents for 007 Legends for Christmas in like 2014 and it is a trip. It is set during Skyfall when bond is shot and drowing he flashes back to famous sceens from various films, but they're all played by Daniel Craig. Yes it has a "Do you expect me to talk cutscene" but with Craig. There was even DLC for skyfall which came out after the game did.

O my gosh. I couldn't quick figure out if this was the game I thought it was at first until you talked about the night club scene. Played this game exclusively on the Wii. Had so much fun with this game. I mostly played the multiplayer and it was so fun for some reason. So unique and different from any fps out at the time, and I was a call of duty kid. I remember being so surprised the Wii even could support multiplayer for an fps game at the time. I played with the Wii mote and it was surprisingly usable once you got use to it and could be competitive with it. The nightclub scene was what I remembered the most. The atmosphere of that level and the deadmau5 I remember song gave me so much nostalgia. its one of those games that if you play it with no real context and expectations, you can have a lot of fun.

I remember when this originally released I wanted to play it but my Wii was dead and by the time it came to 360 I had kinda completely stopped playing fps games. After a decade of only really playing shooters I was burnt out on them and rarely have gone back to them, especially fps games except for fallout 4 and battlefield 1 and a runthrough of Doom. To be honest, I do really miss the hayday of the single player fps (and 3rd person) campaigns, particularly the 007 games like Nightfire and From Russia with Love to the military shooters like Black and Men of Valor to the unique and strange ones like The Darkness or GUN.

When I was in my early 20s (2011/2012) my friends and I played both this and Halo 3 a LOT together. CJ had a huge TV and playing the old 4-player split screen with 4 of us on PS3 was some of the most fun I had. We especially liked Gun Game (I think the mode was called Escalation?) where you start with a pistol and end with an RPG.
It's worth mentioning that there is a 007 Classic difficulty which does away with the regenerating health and forces you to pick up body armour and avoid damage in general to survive, just like the N64 game.
(Edit: ah, you said that at the end. I never did finish the game on this mode as the final fight was just too hard.)
