hello thank you for watching, I think technically this game is the most obscure one I've covered yet so good on ya for checking it out. Apologies for the video being a bit dark - unfortunately I'm away from home and couldn't fix it by the time I noticed. Also here's my old, ancient, you've been warned, reviews of the originals:
Deadly Dozen: ua-cam.com/video/hepXPfG7rTc/v-deo.html
Deadly Dozen Pacific Theatre: ua-cam.com/video/uwJLXnhNnK0/v-deo.html
Hey dude, just wanna say that I'm pleased that ur becoming more successful. I've been a subscriber for a long while, I just really enjoy your reviews. Keep at it and you'll get to the top, I Kno it
Can you teach your secret magical video editing shenanigans to other game content creators? I still don't understand why people seem to stretch 4x3 to 16 by 9 but it is now occurred to me that it may be black magic even though it was common practice back when I got into video production.. you're the first person who's brought it up, so if you could spread your your knowledge throughout the internet I feel like it would be a better place in the right aspect ratio.. like seriously what is going on in this world?
Hey Minimme, you should really review Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb for PC!
It's good that there are companies remastering and releasing extremely obscure old games, but those remakes/releases need to be quality.
Nothing beats the original!
Yeah this same company remastered the 2 bloodrayne games and they are still very buggy but I somehow deal with it
Night dive studios in a nutshell.
@@icravedeath.1200 I like Night dive studios a lot. Hope they remaster games that are even more obscure.
@@contrabandresearch8409 Where's your profie pic from?
Some CLASSIC minimme lore content
only one step away from doing another 5 graphically impressive vid now
@@minimme how about first level fridays
@@minimme time for graphically impressive 3DO games.
@@aprofondir oh now that's going back
One could even say LEGENDARY.
There's definitely something about enjoying the diamonds in the rough. Not everything needs to be beautiful and a "masterpiece."
This is always what I have said mirror's edge is to a tee
Cough cough.... Alpha Protocol....cough
I feel the word "masterpiece" gets over used these days.
once again you prove to be one of my finest finds on youtube, fueling my never ending thirst for obscure games from the 2000s.
I actually knew about this game already, I keep track of new releases by looking at torrent sites and the piracy reddit (which is a surprisingly good way for that) and played the old one as well, but not for long, ditched it because I had to try out like 200 games in a row I got from abandonware sites. thx for reminding me I wanted to try this one out!
2000s were the golden age of games
@@johannlabertaler6095 if you liked this game you should try Pacific Theater- Deadly Dozen and Elite warriors Vietnam
One thing that immediately jumped out to me was the reflections on the water - it's absolutely insanely mirror esque. Also the default Times New Roman font, like where's that original WWII shooter typewriter font that every game at that time had?
I remember playing Homefront and all puddles inside buildings reflected clouds, even if there were rooms above.
Man that ain't Times New Roman!! It's a sans serif font, like Arial or something. Lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I wish I knew about this game earlier, it really reminds me of the Conflict: Desert Storm games and those are some of my favorite tactical shooters of all time. I probably put over 100 hours into Desert Storm 1 alone as a kid.
I played the second game a lot back in the day. I found this channel because of this game.
Its a bit of an oversight of the publisher that they didn't even try and get in contact with you about the remake, let alone offer you a free code, considering you have the two highest viewed videos of the original on the internet.
But if they're not even bothered to put in the leg work to promote the game, then they only have themselves to blame for it's failure.
I hope the devs have the capacity to address some stuff in this, it's an absolutely great and well written review!
"They sound like programmers doing bad accents into their work-from-home microphones" is just a beautifully brutal line. Ouch.
it did sound laughably bad
It's always interesting to see old games no one talks about. Mine was the Conflict Desert Storm game back in the way old days of 2004, first one did get a steam port but the second one is incredibly obscure, let alone the two spin offs. Hope one day every obscure PC game gets a remaster or remake.
Those were fun games
The theme song of either the first or second game on the original Xbox is still in my head to this day
Conflict Desert Storm is 4-player co-op on GameCube and it's so horrible yet so good at the same time. Despite horrendous draw distance and resolution some friends and I managed to play through the whole game in a weekend
Conflict Global Terror was rather good, honestly.
So fun! My little brother's and sister we would sit around the GameCube and tube for hours on a Friday, Saturday night and play all weekend.
Good memories. Now I'm going to go cry because I'm 27 and old while watching Conflict retrospectives.
It is a *great* idea to remake old games that had a ton of potential but fell short, and It's something that UA-camrs like yourself and Nitro Rad have been advocating for. However, the reason for remaking that sort of game is to get everything right the second time around. Otherwise, what's the point?
I once said this before and someone who said to me that it was a terrible idea but no I think it would do the original idea good adding stuff that had to be left out updating its looks new mechanics with new hardware can be taken advantage of would be better than all this corporate dribble coming out these days
That's how I feel about movies, they keep trying to remake really good classic movies, which then rarely live up to the original. How about they take more movies that had really good potential but were poorly executed?
I haven't played this one but Line of Sight: Vietnam, from the same team, was my jam back when I was in middle school. I bought it from Steam years later and while it was a bit unfair and frustrating at times, reliving the nostalgia was nice. I wonder if they're planning to remake that aswell lol.
If you like Vietnam themed games try out elite warriors vietnan
Its similarly great
Hearing the phrase "fang it" has never made me felt more at home as an Australian on this platform
I love how you always gush about how much fun you’re having with a game and then just go off about how much it’s sucks. That twist never fails to entertain me lol
there are some games that just really nail a particular gameplay loop or mechanic, something about it just scratches a very specific itch that nothing else does
sometimes they are objectively terrible games
Me: "oh wow, this game sounds great. How have I never heard it before? I should buy it"
Minimme: "however.." proceeds to destroy the games life
also dd2 has multiplayer witch works via lan / vpn and also it has an editor if you search and document how to make custom maps with cool scenery as i made a test one on moddb so have fun for those that still checks it out
I adore your content, your passion for games really shines through. I could sit and talk for hours about obscure titles like this that are mostly forgotten but have a lasting impact on a small minority. Looking forward to the next one
I bought this title in box at a thrift shop circa 2012 solely for the sake of it looking valuable from a collectors standpoint. I was disappointed to discover it was worth nothing but after booting it up out of curiosity and playing for awhile (which took a bit a willpower to be honest), I absolutely loved it due to it’s unique gameplay. Deadly Dozen is more like a puzzle than an FPS, especially at the higher difficulties and there a few games that exist that really fit that niche. It lead me to playing “Hidden and Dangerous 2” which is one of my all time favorite titles and follows a very similar gameplay loop as this one. Love to see that this was remastered, and wonderful video my man. Gave me some nostalgia I never knew existed lol
Exactly the sane happened for me, I bought that game for 5 dollars in a Walmart so long algo. Also with Project edén, Mob Rules and Black Gold jaja. Bad games but cheap
I will totally get this on Switch! I love your crazy epic war stories from these games lol.

this sounds a great game to put on the online for people to form a 12 players team and see how far they can make it
thank you for this discovery I’m surprised I never heard of it, i feel like it’s unscripted nature should be the future of gaming, this is where some aaa games could be relevant again see gta 6 in its missions mode at least
I love watching people gush about games they love. I know exactly how it feels, one of my favorite games ever is a PS2/GameCube game called Gladius, and I've yet to meet a soul that's played it, or even heard of it.
I LOVED gladius, I spent so much time playing it with my brother. we'd pass the controller back and forth, I would play ursula and he would play urlan, then bicker over which other unit 'belonged' to who. the game that got me into tactics rpgs!! thanks for making me relive those memories :)
@@frog_prime blessed interaction
nice review man, is so amazing when a game that you love is remake, even if is not that good, but seeing coming back to life, im sure it feels so nostalgic and heart warming. Congrats for the vid man. i'm subscribed to you for almost 2 years and all ur vids are amazing , keep it up
Your videos are always so good to relax too and even if I know nothing about the games (which is most of the time), I still enjoy listening to you. Thank you so much!
I remember that demo disk so well, some great times...
Excellent video!
"Loving a game that apparently no one else appreciates" is honestly amazing. You kinda form an emotional connection with the game because you can see the diamond in-between the rough.
I'm the same with Mafia 3 and Driver San Francisco
I wouldn't put Driver San Francisco in the same category as this. Pretty well known game from a large studio. Driv3r could be considered "a game no one else appreciates" but it too is still a well known game from a big studio.
@@scottthewaterwarrior you are absolutely correct.
And I should have clarified I felt this way because Driver was *really* not well-known in my region. I remember having to go prretty far to find a copy.
Overall though it's a AAA game. Internationally, even if it "flopped" (which I don't think it did) it still would have sold about a million copies which is wild by itself
The deadly dozen sequel set in the Pacific was awesome!
Wow, so awesome to find other people who actually enjoyed this game. I bought it discount when I was a kid as we didn't have much money to spend on casual purchases and fell-in love with it; quirks and all. Absolutely wild to see it got a remake. Even if it's rough, it makes me happy that small companies see value in titles like these. So thankful for GoG and the culture they perpetuate in bringing old games back to life.
I first heard about Ziggurat Games when I saw that they bought the rights to Advent Rising (hey, that's a game that could be interesting to cover on this channel). I'm one of the, like, seven Advent Rising fans, so seeing the game get updated on Steam and GOG to support the latest fan improvements to the game pretty quickly after the Ziggurat purchase was really nice. I'd be really picky about them making any changes in a remake, so I definitely understand the desire to see something kind of obscure that you love get revived in a thoughtful way. Ziggurat definitely seems to have their hearts in the right place and I hope their business is a success so they're able to continue to improve these efforts.
Advent Rising is still one of my all time favorite Xbox games even if its quite a flawed game at times. I would love to see a touched up version that play nicely with modern PCs as the current version of it is less than desirable for several reasons
I always get exited to know your new video is coming!
My favorite game that wasn't well regarded and more or less forgotten is a somewhat eurojank FPS/RPG made in 2005 called Boiling Point: Road to Hell.
It was made by a small Ukrainian company called Deep Shadows and published by Atari. It has you playing as a guy trying to find his daughter who's been kidnapped in some South American country.
It has a bunch of interesting little mechanics to it that help make for some interesting RPG elements like how the faction system works and how you can go about completing some quests. The game unfortunately ended up a bit rushed so some stuff ended up unfinished or lacking good polish to it.
Other than that I think it's a cool game that was punching quite above its weight for the time it came out. I think if it got a modern remake that fixed up some of the flaws it had it would be a pretty fun time.
There's a pretty good vid about it made by TehSnakerer that I would recommend if this game sounds interesting to anyone.
Lol, that game was amazing tons of role-play, huge world I like it more than stalker or far cry games, bc it came before em
Boiling point always looked really cool. I feel like far cry knockoffs (if i had to be reductive and give it a genre) were really interesting at the time, i wish the new ones were as interesting as the older ones
@@bigdrippy4104 It's interesting to think that Boiling Point was basically a Far Cry game before the modern Far Cry games we have today.
Its so crazy when remakes are made by people who seemingly didnt understand why the original game worked. Removing permadeath is so obviously removing the whole point of the game, how they arrived at that decision is beyond me.
Since it has 3 devs, I guess one of them really hated it.
@@horusreloaded6387 Or it was mandated by the publisher. TBH I dislike perma death, though might be nice in a game like this, should have just made it a menu option rather than removing it entirely.
Always excited to watch a new video of yours! (Especially if it's such an obscure title).
Really glad this channel still doing well keep up!
Have you considered looking at Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb? It's one of my favorites! I'd love to see you cover it one of these days. It's waaaay better than Staff of Kings.
Damn, i remember that one! A bit slow to start, but really fun, despite some really annoying boss "fights".
Yes! Either minimme or Nitro Rad need to review Emperor's Tomb! "You'll need more than your gun once you're inside Chen's tomb...there are things...worse than Nazis." 😀
Minimme is so good at making me care about all of these obscure titles I've never even heard of and appreciate all of their qualities that went unnoticed
World War II COMBAT: Road to Berlin is my "I'm pretty sure no one else has heard of it, but I loved it" game. Super budget shooter with shockingly fun multiplayer and surprisingly good sound design.
I'm glad i just found this channel, I am a very anxious person, but watching your videos, Calms my brain aha
This looks real cool! I also feel like getting some donuts rn lol
'Title pending' lol.
whoops lmao bit of an error, gotta figure something out for this one!
Oh mate don't even get me started on Easter show showbags and the random gems you'd get. I remember my parents would always get us the Bertie Beetle bag because it was like $2, then let us get whatever other bag we wanted and I'd inevitably go for whatever had a cap gun, whatever had something spy related, or whatever had a video game in it.
I also remember getting Rollercoaster Tycoon for free from a box of Froot Loops
they were such good times. The Matt Hoffman/Tony Hawk/Skatepark Tycoon kellogs combo was elite too. and of course age of empires
I fucking love you, man. Your videos are always a breath of fresh air.
minimme damn I’ve been watching you for so long and you’ve always brought the quality content
Wooow Deadly Dozen.. I played that a bunch back in the day, and as you experienced.. whenever I brought it up, no one knew wtf I was talking about
My game i love that nobody ever talks about anymore is Primal on the PS2.Primal even got a HD re release on the ps4 but nobody ever mentions it but I think it it's on the level of Legacy & Kain Soul reaver,a game I also love.
One of my first videos of yours I saw was the original, love to see the update and story arc
Love your videos mate ;)
How you feel about this is how I feel about Project IGI 2. I'm the only person irl that's played and loved it.
great thumbnail and title brother keep up the good work love u
In the spirit of the opening of this video, I'd like to recommend the 2002 third-person stealth video game Prisoner of War. I think it's a blast.
I'll add it to my to play list cheers
I was a big budget games kid, so a lot of the titles I played were more obscure. I was always more interested in sims and rpgs. One of my favorites was Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times. It’s not quite as obscure as deadly dozen; the highest viewed video from what I’m seeing is PBG’s gameplay video, with a little over 100k views. It’s very animal-crossing like but had a pretty surprising amount of the side things and magician content thrown in. Different events during “magic time,” which would change the appearance of the world and make different bugs and fish available; the ability to cast spells whenever; and VERY funky looking “villagers”. Like some are penguins and foxes, others are imps or cupcake people. Only one game from the series ever made it to the US, so the English version of that title is listed for $200 just for the cartridge.
Love your videos as always, obscure and/or bizarre video games are my favorite to learn about. :•)
Man how i missed a shooter like this for xbox, thanks for sharing! I totally missed the release of the remake
I never heard of the original your great review has got me interested cheers mate 👍
Here you're right I never heard of it but I'm glad you can play it again
Commenting as requested, minimme!
Love your videos, love your passion - you're supersupersuper :)
First Ziggurat rescues American Hero from the depths of abandonware hell, then they remake a cult tactical shooter for all 12 of its fans? This might be my new favorite game company
"Everyone has one game they love that no one has heard of."
FutureCop LAPD?
I would love to see this game on PS4 and xbox. Also this was a great review and i have subbed to your channel.
omg. i just unlocked a hidden memory - my dad played this when i was small. the only thing i remember from the game is a minefield. wow
What an absolutely fascinating series!
I can not believe I’m about to buy a 20 year old game to get the type of tactical shooter experience I crave especially with it having a remake
That was funky. I'm playing TBC classic while watching this and the gun noise in the Deadly Dozen remake is the same as my hunter's gun!
yoo I was just thinking about this game and was like hmm i gotta play this game, and you drop this!
Another classic that’s slappin, hey dude I applaud you for not cappin’!
You actually got me interested in playing this... As soon as it launches on the switch, I'll give it a try.
The twitter post about the permadeath being removed is such a bizarre admission that they have no idea what value it had in the original.
They say it as if it was some antiquated feature from its own time and that its a net positive that its no longer a thing.
All that work for such an obscure title and they missed the point entirely.
Ahhh, its always a good time when minimme uploads a video :D
I personally love hearing about hidden games like this even if they're totally crap still fun to see what can be put into a game
Edit: I think I would like this game I love games like veitcong purple haze and the mechanics of the game really sound nice to me other WWII shooters of that age could have done a much more polished version of that I'd have loved to have seen it
I loved the original game too... there are dozens of us! (pun intended)
But what's funny is that I played the sequel first, The Pacific Theater. One thing that I really loved was all the wacky cheat codes, like "Flight Mode," "God Mode," and "Enemy Field Of View" where lines would show up through the entire map leading back to each enemies face, lol.
I keep forgetting how I found out about your channel. Turns out it was DD2 review. I got this game as a kid in a random fashion and couldn't play through it without resorting to cheats. I loved the maps though, hope to revisit it someday and finally check out the original.
The waving grass in the original version with rolling hill just blew me away. GREAT game. Far more fun that H&D 1/2 which I never completed.
good video, thanks as usual.
I played so much of the second game, me and my brother loved the jungle feel of it
This is becoming my absolute favorite game channel dude you cover games I’ve never heard of in a passionate and introspective way that makes me forget my hatred for the mainstream gaming industry until I finish the video and then remember all the bullshit that’s ruined gaming for me again 😂 either way your vids are awesome keep it up 🤝
there is something rather painful about the hidden & dangerous bargain bin ripoff getting a remake before the game it's very shamelessly copying, even if the remake sucks balls
That IP is deemed worth something so harder to acquire
@13:53 glad you included this and I feel way less weird for doing similiar things in games. My refusal to glitch launch a nuke in FO76 comes to mind
every time you release a video like this i get the urge to go through emulator sites and find the most obscure games :)
great video! feels like a wasted opportunity, since most of the cons you listed couldn't be easily fixed by 1 person in a week at most (well, except for the ui). hopefully some modder can pick it up
Damn, watching this has made me wish I had the conflict: desert storm and global storm games remade. I loved those
glad im not alone! those are some of my all time favourite games
Would love to see you cover Commandos: Strike Force, an all but forgotten WW2 squad shooter that if I remember correctly is amazingly well crafted and criminally underrated. Another WW2 game I haven’t seen much coverage on is death to spies. An obscure hitman esque world war 2 stealth game... As a younger gamer having played hitman at far too young of an age, I was intrigued by the structure and concept of death to spies. There are multiple games in the series if I recall correctly, could possibly produce a fun video essay
I played it when I was a kid. Loved it!
this reminds me of Conflict Desert Storm & Global Storm you should do a review of those games! i pray for a reboot of that series one day
One obscure game i seem to only remember is the Crusty Demons ps2 game. I cant find many things online about it either. From what i remember it was really fun, it was like tony hawks pro skater's arcade style where youre in an area doing tricks to get a high score + Burnout's crash mechanics but with motorbikes. It had a neat x ray feature when you crash, you'd see your bones break. I think it also increased your score.
Another banger mate
i watched this with some really sad music in the background and almost cried, 10/10
Bruh
God your review on the original was how I found your channel in the first place
best videos on the website
I never knew there was gonna be a Remake as a hugh fan of the original and the Pacific I am stoked but also sad that there wasnt much marketing for it!
It was my first ever WW2 FPS and I have struggled for years to remember its name. Seeing this remaster come out of nowhere made me very happy. It's a shame that the remaster isn't superior in every way, but I'll take it over the original as a way to re-experience my childhood memories.
Honestly looks super fun!
Played this back on the day! Never finished it though. I seem to remember getting fed up of being sniped in the fog with no recourse.
a game i would *love* to see properly finished in a remake was the very last game by the "studio?" from the original turok, the game went into dev hell because atari went bankrupt midproduction then the game got revived YEARS later by a very budget publishers.
The Red Star, a couch co op beat em up bullet-hell. yes bullet hell while also being a top down beat-em-up, i had never ever found another game like that again.
me being a big fan of it and finding that there were leaked builds of the game out there made me discover they canned very little things from the original alphas to the finished game and a LOT of the effects kind of stuff on the game are still masterful for an ps2 game, specially the shader that was a literal portal on the TUTORIAL mission where the portal would go left and right while the ship would stick its parts out to shoot at you.
those dudes literally created THE portal before portal and thats quite fucking insane bro, even more on a freacking ps2 it was SUCH a damn flex, that specific effect still tanks the performance of the ps2 emulator till this day i don't think they ever found a fix for that.
the game is insanely well paced but the extra unlockable char feels half finished lacking moves and when i played the prototype it had even less, maybe they just never had the time to add more and instead just polished out what was already half finished.
i hope you do end up seeing that game someday you can find the leaked builds (even an XBOX build apparently with better graphics i need to check) on WebArchive or the cutting room floor which them redirects you to the other builds.
god i miss that game so much, it was one of the games i also got on a bargain bin simply by the cover and is still to this day one of the very few games on my ps2 that i have the most memories playing.
Good nostalgia, have been playing the originals again this days, mission 5 and going on, next is the pacific theater
I still remember getting this cheap back when I was 10 and pronouncing it as "Deadly DOH-Zen". Got it running on my laptop these days so it's a real treat to see you talking about it in any capacity! Shame about the "Remake", though D:
The grandfather 2 always been a guilty pleasure to me, very underrated
Played the original back in the day. Hoping for part two. I liked that one the best
I've played a lot of DD: Pacific Theater and it was simply amazing!
Would love to see someone else take on this concept & put together a more polished product - might actually check out the OG game though
That enemy firing a rocket point-blank just to kill your soldier is such bullshit that I can't help but laugh.
The level around the 16 minute mark reminds me a lot of Home front: The Revolution. You can die easily and any loot you collect disappears if you die so anytime you complete a mission you end up running from soldiers through dense streets filled with wrecked buildings, trying your best to sneak past drones and snipers as you make your way back to your hideout which you usually end up at with only a handful of bullets and a slither of health left. It's proper heart in the mouth gameplay as you feel incredibly vulnerable, but at the same time due to the map being quite small, but dense, there's always somewhere close by to check out for materials, an enemy radio to sabotage, an armoury to raid etc that you always feel tempted to risk everything before going back to base.
That game got shat on by so many people but I honestly can't remember the last time a game gave me an experience like that. Just make sure to get the patches.
