The funny thing about Kiel being credited, is that in Everything or Nothing alongside his likeness he also provided his voice for the various grunts Jaws makes in the game. The guy doesn't say a single word, but he got in the recording booth to grunt into a mic. Legend indeed.

This is one of the best videos covering 007 Legends. Many videos go "Game bad, they choose the worst bond films for it haha" But you went more in-depth on each of those films, why they are unique, and why the game fails in capitalizing on their uniqueness. I'm not the hugest Bond fan, but now I wanna watch Goldfinger, Moonraker, and rewatch Die Another Day where the last time I did, I was a child and I remember it being WEIRD. I'm glad I sat through this while eating a pack of Sour Gummi Bears. That helped too, lol.

Hearing you talk at the end about how much you wanted to make sure you provided the context to these films and how much the series meant to you, I wanted to let you know that it was really felt. I found this very informative and fascinating. I've only seen maybe 3 or 4 Bond films but watching this and seeing your clips and hearing you talk about the ones I haven't seen makes me want to change that. Like I'm just sitting here remembering my first Theater Bond experience and thinking about maybe asking my dad to dust off his collection and show me some of these I haven't seen yet. I played 007 Legends on WiiU back when it came out and funniest thing ever in any game was when after shooting what felt like 1000 bad guys in Licence To Kill, I went around trying to find the optional objectives and one of the corpses leaning against the wall had Daniel Craig's face model. I laughed my ass off wondering did the game glitch when I died previously or was there some bad guy running around who was secretly Bond's clone
I remember seeing that, I felt like License to Kill’s stealth Sniper segment. The enemies were so badly placed, I couldn’t kill anyone without people noticing
Hitman World of Assassination felt more like a modern James Bond game then Acvision's James Bond it's cool IO the studio behind Hitman is making a Bond game.
@@jmp_frIt was announced a while ago and IO's last game Hitman 3 was released in 2021. They haven't announced any other games so my bet is they have been working on the Bond game for a couple years. Edit : In 2022 they said the game could be 3 years away. So next year most likely.
A little note about the Skyfall DLC not being available anymore in digital stores. I never had this game on the PS3 as a kid/teenager, despite being a huge Bond nerd. I probably liked the PS2 007 games and Blood Stone better then all the other titles, that I never mind to have never played it. Beginning of last year, I started to rebuilt my PS3 collection with all the games I thought of worth buying. I bought the whole 007 game collection for the PS3, and soon after I started playing the 007 games. I played them according to release dates, so 007 Legends was last on the list. Anyway, in mid-2023 I finally booted up this game and started playing. Only to my surprise that I was able to download the Skyfall DLC without hassle. (Never redeemed a code for it, and never redeemed it in the PS store either.) Maybe Europe, or The Netherlands in particular is lucky to have it still available, or maybe I got somehow lucky. Who knows?! I tried to look up on multiple platforms for an explanation or similar experiences, but to no success. Has someone else also experienced this, or is this a "once in a lifetime" luck?
I had similar experience. I bought the game on launch for the PS3 but soon sold it without completing it. I bought it again in 2020 and to my surprise I was able to download the DLC. I’m certain I’d never previously downloaded it.
Goldeneye and Blood Stone got them too, I’ve only played Blood Stone. That has got to be the least talked about version of Goldeneye, even moreso than Rogue Agent.
You know, the feeling of "playing someone's distant memory of the movies" is unintentionally very fitting in this case, since we are technically doing just that (as irrelevant as the whole "its bond having a flashback while drowning" part may be to the overarching plot).

I don't understand why Roger Moore Bond films are among people's least favourite, they were fantastical, larger then life adventures that had good humor, action and with locals and baddies that spark the imagination, Moonraker being among them.
I know this is all just a cash grab for Activision, but if they wanted to make a game about *all* of James Bond, why not model him after the physical descriptions from the novels, or how he looked in the comics? I mean, I know why, it's because they wanted that sweet, sweet Casino Royale money, but it feels weird that it wasn't even considered.
The NES James Bond Jr game is pretty decent in all honesty, it sadly just gets completely overshadowed by the absolutely dire SNES version. BTW speaking of games that killed developers, have you ever considered having a look at Haze on the PS3?
I have the same nostalgic spot for Die Another Day, the space laser following bond over the ice lives in my head rent free to this day. So the driving segment in the game with generic avoid-the-artillery-markers mechanic really cuts the wrong way...
I know it’s an Apple Arcade exclusive and not by any means a major release but you should look into Cypher 007. It has a similar concept to 007 Legends where Bond revisits classic set pieces from the movies but it’s done surprisingly well. As a Bond fan I can’t get enough of it. Looking forward to you covering the Brosnan games. Those were my childhood.
Blow-field? That's not how that's pronounced! :p Also, the Blofeld model is a deliberate combination of the different actors who'd played him - Donald Pleasance and Telly Savalas in particular. I didn't really spot much Charles Grey in there, thankfully.
Man, such a cool concept though. Wouldn't it be cool to see a video game take the "007 is a title not a person" theory and make it a narrative? You could have every bond make an appearance, then after their "canon" appearance it shows their death. You could have it lead to either Craig or a new Bond (or maybe Q?) in the last chapter after finding out that the same villain is behind all of the murders, and you avenges all of the 007s
I personally find _Legends_ to be a slightly more enjoyable game than the _Goldeneye_ remake, namely because of the improved stealth gameplay and the myriad of gadgets the game gives you access to. Unlike in _Goldeneye_ you aren't limited to just using your smartphone here to solve every problem. Depending on your commitment to completing the stealth challenges, every other gadget you get will have a myriad of useful applications. The Radar Ping watch is very useful when trying to find enemies that you might have lost track of or can't see using your normal radar due to its dependency on sightlines. The EMP laser admittedly doesn't do much past the _Goldfinger_ section, but it does short-circuit radios and intercoms to help distract enemies during stealth sections. By the time you get the Pen Dart Gun in the _Licence to Kill_ section, the game really begins to open up in terms of its stealth sections and mostly leaves you alone to work your own way around enemies. The best gadget you get in the game by far is the aforementioned Pen Dart Gun, which not only gives you an effective "one-shot kill" weapon but it also gives you a myriad of choices on how to deal with enemies. You have the standard tranq darts for silent takedowns of single targets, shock darts which aren't silenced but can take out multiple targets in close proximity and distraction darts which let you manipulate the AI of the enemies and cheese your way around them. The fun of the gadgets and the game as a whole is in learning the applications of these tools and using them in creative ways to complete the stealth trials in every level. _Legends_ is at its best when you actively take part in the secondary objectives and level challenges the game is designed around, and if you rush through treating it like the Call of Duty games that it's based on your enjoyment of the game will be limited. The game is also a peak example of the future of game preservation with the _Skyfall_ missions thankfully preserved on the Wii-U version but lost to time everywhere else, but that's a topic for another day and I think I've talked for long enough. _007 Legends_ has a lot of issues, but it's definitely a game worth playing through at least once and I think you'll have a good time with it if you do.
32:00 Fun fact: That office chair is actually existing, it's an Interstuhl Silver 191S and the Interstuhl Silver product line is a futuristic designed one, these chairs cost thousands of bucks each. I've also seen them on TV in some DSDS (German adaption of Pop Idol) seasons the Jury sat in these. It's amazing how some anniversary releases get screwed up, the date is more than forseeable, I guess the problem is rather to start not to early with the development but also not too late.
Btw, the way the plot is framed, with Bond on the verge of death hallucinating/reminiscing, is very similar to Hitman Contracts since the plot is basically that agent 47 is on the verge of death after a mission hoes wrong and starts having flashbacks to previous missions (some of which brand new, others remade from the first hitman game which to my knowledge was not released on console). And now Io interactive is working on a bond game lmao
I am SO glad you are doing a review of the whole game and how it compares to each film! Every single reviewer or UA-camr I've seen basically played Goldfinger and go "Woo, I'm doe with this!" without going into WHY we wanted to see the game; how it adapts every movie into its settings and how it compares. Night fire PS2 was one of the best bond games ever made hands down. even the split screen multiplayer and bots customizability was WAY ahead of its time!
Quantum of Solace on the 360 generation was a very underrated game. Sure it borrowed a lot from Call of Duty but the switching between first and third party cameras was cool, and the fact the game covered both Casino Royale story and its sequel was great. Sometimes a game doesn't have to be groundbreaking or push the needle to still be a very good game. And while there were lots of COD clones, this was one of the better ones.
I bought a WiiU last year and have slowly been picking up games. 007 Legends is one of them because I’m a HUGE Bond fanboy. I’ll actually toss it in tonight and play it for the first time :)

I never played the game, but I honestly never knew it even recreated scenes from the older movies until you compared them. I think it was extremely important to note what the movies were like in a general sense, it really helped point out how flawed the game's execution was to me. Great video man.

The online multiplayer was really good. It was pretty easy to find a match online for Wii U and XBox for 3 or more years. There are many online multiplayer videos on my channel and other players channels from the community showing what online multiplayer was like. It was similar to online multiplayer in Goldeneye Wii, but unique on its own too.

Man, I remember the car chase in Die Another Day was such a pain for me. Just kept failing and failing for no discernible reason until it eventually worked. Something I do want to point out though since it was glossed over in this video - the laser room fight scene was against Mr Kil in the movie, not Xiao.
I only picked this up on PS3 a couple of years ago, and streamed it last year, and I was able to download and play the Skyfall level off the PSN Store. Maybe it’s a regional thing, maybe I should go double check on a different account and report back in…

I adored this game as a kid and thought the multiplayer mode was actually very well constructed. Still play it split-screen every now and then. Can’t wait for project 007 but IOI need to give us an update!
I'll admit to having a soft spot for 007 Racing. The split-screen mode was pretty interesting, since it was in rounds, like a fighting game, so you couldn't pool your weapon pick-ups between wins.

I feel a big reason why this game wasn't able to be good was Eon's obsession to only have the current bond be in these games which forced the devs to have to recreate the series of events with a different style and look instead of trying to recreate the locations exactly how they were in the moives with their appropriate bond. Instead we got this weird mashup that didn't work. This of course wouldn't have fixed everything, Activision only giving the devs a year to devlpoment the game is insane in the modern industry, I can't imainge how awful it was to work on this game at the time with Activision and Enon breathing down your neck.
Funny, the last two Craig movies (my least favourite movies in the whole official series) give me similar "007 Legends" feeling. Lifeless, not fun at all and feel like a fever dream after grounded and realistic Casino Royale. However, I like some some sci-fi, surreal and crazy stuff in the Bond media with a proper execution. And the concept of the "Legends" is kinda fun in this way. I love to think that the real James Bond (Connery) was killed in action in 1960's and MI6 extract his memories and personality and put it into another body. Every new guy thinks that he's the one and only James Bond. But sometimes new guys having some surreal flashbacks about the past life (like Craig in "Legends").
Ok, i'm a Wii U collector, well, not %100 and i was always curious about this game, and now i think that i will get it, the Gamepad use sounds fun, as i had fun with king of Zombis in Zombi U.
Watching this an reminiscing about Eurocom’s closure made me want to “pitch” a video (or at least chart): How HD killed the cult classic studio. Because who mourns a small-mid level developer who mostly made licensed games? I, and everyone else who’s shot Sentinel missiles at their friends on Skyrail! The 6th gen saw lots of developers become cult or fan favorites. They might not have made masterpieces in the classic sense, but they made with VIBE! Be it licensed games that captured the spirit of their IP, like Eurocom’s NightFire, EA Redwood Shores with Everything or Nothing and Return of the King, Radical Games with Scarface and Simpsons Hit & Run or Factor 5 with Rogue Squadron. Or maybe they just took a simple concept and nailed it or had games that was unique, like Pandemic with Star Wars: Battlefront and Mercenaries. Or games that took a concept and delivered on that, like Free Radical Design honing the GoldenEye formula with TimeSplitters, EA Los Angeles with Medal of Honor or NeverSoft with Tony Hawk. Or had great ambition and inventiveness and with the right leadership could make masterpieces, like Rare and Silicon Knights. Or heck, just had great ambition and didn’t succeed and still stuck around, like Reflections! These are studios that either shut down during the HD era, sometimes due to costly flops (Factor 5’s Lair, Free Radical’s Haze and Silicon Knight’s Too Human) or swallowed up by a larger company, becoming a subsidiary and losing their independence (Reflections and Radical games). Some survived into it or even thrived, like the rebranded Redwood Shores becoming Visceral Games, but they would eventually shutter and be crushed under the might of EA, or Rare losing their might under Microsoft. Just like movie people are lamenting the death of the mid budget film, these are a type of games I miss. Those mid-budget with big ideas that were a success as long as they did fine. Anyway, I love these and can’t wait for you to tackle the Brosnan games, and I can tell you NightFire still holds up!
Would love to see you take a crack at either Everything or Nothing, the OC Brosnan game in the vein of Blood Stone or the From Russia With Love adaptation. Such a strange Bond movie to adapt.
This game is only playable on XBOX360. There it feels great. On ps3 framerate has terrible dips and PC version has broken controls with both controller and a mouse.
I remember during the build-up to this game where the developers said the stories will be connected with an overall arch which turned out to be Bond drowning and either remembering or hallucinating the entire game.. I suppose the writing was on the wall when that started
The best thing about the whole dream thing is after Moonraker, it fades to black, then you play a scene BEFORE the gunshot, and the whole dream thing is ignored.

Ive been saying this for the longest time, a modern Bond game would have to play like Hitman mixed with MGS.
I don't think IO's 007 project is very far along in the development process so far but I am SO excited for it.

I vividly remember begging my dad to let me rent this at civic video back when it came out. To my luck I was allowed to rent 007 Blood Stone instead
OHMSS ends with a bobsled gun battle down the Alps. Replacing that with the same canned QTE punch up with Blofeld on a cable car is just unthinkable.
You can still grab the Skyfall DLC off PSN…but don’t. You’re better off ending the game with Moonraker.
Nightfire remains one of my favourite games of all time. It's gutting that they can't sort the licence rules out to get it on more modern consoles.

I don't understand why Roger Moore Bond films are among people's least favourite, they were fantastical, larger then life adventures that had good humor, action and with locals and baddies that spark the imagination, Moonraker being among them.
I know this is all just a cash grab for Activision, but if they wanted to make a game about *all* of James Bond, why not model him after the physical descriptions from the novels, or how he looked in the comics? I mean, I know why, it's because they wanted that sweet, sweet Casino Royale money, but it feels weird that it wasn't even considered.
The NES James Bond Jr game is pretty decent in all honesty, it sadly just gets completely overshadowed by the absolutely dire SNES version.
BTW speaking of games that killed developers, have you ever considered having a look at Haze on the PS3?

I have the same nostalgic spot for Die Another Day, the space laser following bond over the ice lives in my head rent free to this day. So the driving segment in the game with generic avoid-the-artillery-markers mechanic really cuts the wrong way...
I know it’s an Apple Arcade exclusive and not by any means a major release but you should look into Cypher 007. It has a similar concept to 007 Legends where Bond revisits classic set pieces from the movies but it’s done surprisingly well. As a Bond fan I can’t get enough of it. Looking forward to you covering the Brosnan games. Those were my childhood.

You could have every bond make an appearance, then after their "canon" appearance it shows their death. You could have it lead to either Craig or a new Bond (or maybe Q?) in the last chapter after finding out that the same villain is behind all of the murders, and you avenges all of the 007s
I personally find _Legends_ to be a slightly more enjoyable game than the _Goldeneye_ remake, namely because of the improved stealth gameplay and the myriad of gadgets the game gives you access to. Unlike in _Goldeneye_ you aren't limited to just using your smartphone here to solve every problem. Depending on your commitment to completing the stealth challenges, every other gadget you get will have a myriad of useful applications.
The Radar Ping watch is very useful when trying to find enemies that you might have lost track of or can't see using your normal radar due to its dependency on sightlines. The EMP laser admittedly doesn't do much past the _Goldfinger_ section, but it does short-circuit radios and intercoms to help distract enemies during stealth sections. By the time you get the Pen Dart Gun in the _Licence to Kill_ section, the game really begins to open up in terms of its stealth sections and mostly leaves you alone to work your own way around enemies.
The best gadget you get in the game by far is the aforementioned Pen Dart Gun, which not only gives you an effective "one-shot kill" weapon but it also gives you a myriad of choices on how to deal with enemies. You have the standard tranq darts for silent takedowns of single targets, shock darts which aren't silenced but can take out multiple targets in close proximity and distraction darts which let you manipulate the AI of the enemies and cheese your way around them. The fun of the gadgets and the game as a whole is in learning the applications of these tools and using them in creative ways to complete the stealth trials in every level.
_Legends_ is at its best when you actively take part in the secondary objectives and level challenges the game is designed around, and if you rush through treating it like the Call of Duty games that it's based on your enjoyment of the game will be limited. The game is also a peak example of the future of game preservation with the _Skyfall_ missions thankfully preserved on the Wii-U version but lost to time everywhere else, but that's a topic for another day and I think I've talked for long enough.
_007 Legends_ has a lot of issues, but it's definitely a game worth playing through at least once and I think you'll have a good time with it if you do.

I've also seen them on TV in some DSDS (German adaption of Pop Idol) seasons the Jury sat in these.
It's amazing how some anniversary releases get screwed up, the date is more than forseeable, I guess the problem is rather to start not to early with the development but also not too late.
Seeing the iconic minimmug on-screen just for five seconds made that whole ad segment worth it

Btw, the way the plot is framed, with Bond on the verge of death hallucinating/reminiscing, is very similar to Hitman Contracts since the plot is basically that agent 47 is on the verge of death after a mission hoes wrong and starts having flashbacks to previous missions (some of which brand new, others remade from the first hitman game which to my knowledge was not released on console).

I am SO glad you are doing a review of the whole game and how it compares to each film! Every single reviewer or UA-camr I've seen basically played Goldfinger and go "Woo, I'm doe with this!" without going into WHY we wanted to see the game; how it adapts every movie into its settings and how it compares. Thank you so much for this and as wlel having a generally positive outlook than it all being bad.
First time finding the channel, really enjoy that video as a big JB fan. Will defo check out the other ones. I have never played this game, but apart of me just wants to really check out.
Night fire PS2 was one of the best bond games ever made hands down. even the split screen multiplayer and bots customizability was WAY ahead of its time!

Quantum of Solace on the 360 generation was a very underrated game. Sure it borrowed a lot from Call of Duty but the switching between first and third party cameras was cool, and the fact the game covered both Casino Royale story and its sequel was great. Sometimes a game doesn't have to be groundbreaking or push the needle to still be a very good game. And while there were lots of COD clones, this was one of the better ones.
I bought a WiiU last year and have slowly been picking up games. 007 Legends is one of them because I’m a HUGE Bond fanboy. I’ll actually toss it in tonight and play it for the first time :)
The frame rate is horrible trust me I owned it.

I never played the game, but I honestly never knew it even recreated scenes from the older movies until you compared them. I think it was extremely important to note what the movies were like in a general sense, it really helped point out how flawed the game's execution was to me. Great video man.
I absolutely loved the overall Bond franchise context you included and Atari 50 comparison. Really highlighted the game’s missed potential as a cultural artefact.

The online multiplayer was really good. It was pretty easy to find a match online for Wii U and XBox for 3 or more years. There are many online multiplayer videos on my channel and other players channels from the community showing what online multiplayer was like. It was similar to online multiplayer in Goldeneye Wii, but unique on its own too.

Man, I remember the car chase in Die Another Day was such a pain for me. Just kept failing and failing for no discernible reason until it eventually worked.
Something I do want to point out though since it was glossed over in this video - the laser room fight scene was against Mr Kil in the movie, not Xiao.
I only picked this up on PS3 a couple of years ago, and streamed it last year, and I was able to download and play the Skyfall level off the PSN Store. Maybe it’s a regional thing, maybe I should go double check on a different account and report back in…

I'll admit to having a soft spot for 007 Racing. The split-screen mode was pretty interesting, since it was in rounds, like a fighting game, so you couldn't pool your weapon pick-ups between wins.
Excellent video, as always. Would love to see you cover EA's From Russia with Love on the PS2. Probably one of my favorite Bond games of all time. And they even got Connery!

I feel a big reason why this game wasn't able to be good was Eon's obsession to only have the current bond be in these games which forced the devs to have to recreate the series of events with a different style and look instead of trying to recreate the locations exactly how they were in the moives with their appropriate bond. Instead we got this weird mashup that didn't work.
This of course wouldn't have fixed everything, Activision only giving the devs a year to devlpoment the game is insane in the modern industry, I can't imainge how awful it was to work on this game at the time with Activision and Enon breathing down your neck.
You should do the from Russia with love game on ps2 next. I remember having fun with that one as a kid
We do have IO's James Bond game to look forward to. Considering Hitman 3 was basically a James Bond game in disguise, I have high hopes.

Funny, the last two Craig movies (my least favourite movies in the whole official series) give me similar "007 Legends" feeling. Lifeless, not fun at all and feel like a fever dream after grounded and realistic Casino Royale.
However, I like some some sci-fi, surreal and crazy stuff in the Bond media with a proper execution. And the concept of the "Legends" is kinda fun in this way. I love to think that the real James Bond (Connery) was killed in action in 1960's and MI6 extract his memories and personality and put it into another body. Every new guy thinks that he's the one and only James Bond. But sometimes new guys having some surreal flashbacks about the past life (like Craig in "Legends").
Ok, i'm a Wii U collector, well, not %100 and i was always curious about this game, and now i think that i will get it, the Gamepad use sounds fun, as i had fun with king of Zombis in Zombi U.

Watching this an reminiscing about Eurocom’s closure made me want to “pitch” a video (or at least chart): How HD killed the cult classic studio.
Because who mourns a small-mid level developer who mostly made licensed games? I, and everyone else who’s shot Sentinel missiles at their friends on Skyrail!
The 6th gen saw lots of developers become cult or fan favorites. They might not have made masterpieces in the classic sense, but they made with VIBE! Be it licensed games that captured the spirit of their IP, like Eurocom’s NightFire, EA Redwood Shores with Everything or Nothing and Return of the King, Radical Games with Scarface and Simpsons Hit & Run or Factor 5 with Rogue Squadron. Or maybe they just took a simple concept and nailed it or had games that was unique, like Pandemic with Star Wars: Battlefront and Mercenaries. Or games that took a concept and delivered on that, like Free Radical Design honing the GoldenEye formula with TimeSplitters, EA Los Angeles with Medal of Honor or NeverSoft with Tony Hawk. Or had great ambition and inventiveness and with the right leadership could make masterpieces, like Rare and Silicon Knights. Or heck, just had great ambition and didn’t succeed and still stuck around, like Reflections!
These are studios that either shut down during the HD era, sometimes due to costly flops (Factor 5’s Lair, Free Radical’s Haze and Silicon Knight’s Too Human) or swallowed up by a larger company, becoming a subsidiary and losing their independence (Reflections and Radical games). Some survived into it or even thrived, like the rebranded Redwood Shores becoming Visceral Games, but they would eventually shutter and be crushed under the might of EA, or Rare losing their might under Microsoft.
Just like movie people are lamenting the death of the mid budget film, these are a type of games I miss. Those mid-budget with big ideas that were a success as long as they did fine.
Anyway, I love these and can’t wait for you to tackle the Brosnan games, and I can tell you NightFire still holds up!

This game is only playable on XBOX360. There it feels great. On ps3 framerate has terrible dips and PC version has broken controls with both controller and a mouse.
I remember during the build-up to this game where the developers said the stories will be connected with an overall arch which turned out to be Bond drowning and either remembering or hallucinating the entire game..
I suppose the writing was on the wall when that started
The best thing about the whole dream thing is after Moonraker, it fades to black, then you play a scene BEFORE the gunshot, and the whole dream thing is ignored.
