Beautiful bike! I'm glad to see the changes and evolution the frame has experienced since the C64. Kudos to Colnago. That said, a Campy groupset and wheels would be beautiful on this bike. Don't get me wrong, the Ultegra is a solid choice...my first Pinarello had Ultegra...but Campy would be my preference. To David's point, I wish Campy EPS was available at the more affordable Chorus level. Super Record EPS costs more than a divorce.
On another point, I would have gone with black bar tape but that's a personal preference. Lastly, I too wish the "Colnago" on the downtube was gloss white...not black.

White bar tape connects the white on the top and bottom of the head tube. Flows into the frame. While matching the colour of bar tape and saddle IS in the rules, the angle of the colour transition makes the black saddle work. Brilliant looking machine. Somebody has got to be able to create a better head unit mount.

@@tonyg3091 I've been struggling with justifying DA o a new Pinarello Dogma I'm looking at.... DA saves c280g (depending on cassette size) but adds c£1200... really hard to justify!! The DA cassette is mostly titanium, but this also means it probably wont last as long... So a saving of £1200, plus better durability... the bike shop I am buying from told me going for DA is purely a vanity choice.. It is hard to argue with that!!! ...as for campy...well there is the emotional pull and the aesthetics... if Record EPS was same price as Ultegra Di2, and Super Record same £ as DA... I think far far more people would go for Campag...

I recently rode the Maratona and I was surprised to see such few bikes with Campag. Most of the Pinarello and Colnago bikes had shimano. Personally I was a huge fan of Shimano with their easy to use, budget friendly and easily accessible parts however thats no longer the case. I would certainly consider looking at going to Campag on my next bike. I purchased a new Factor Ostro Vam and after just a thousand km the brakes constantly rub, they make an absolute racket and the chain drops sometimes. For this amount of money it should be a lot better.

  • @nannasfeet

Great choice David , Ultegra is a brilliant groupset , why pay way way more for Campag super and get no more performance. I reckon black bar tape only for the shear hell of keeping it clean but it depends on what it’s made of , as baby wipes work well , but eventually it will still look dirty white . Look forward to seeing you around the Cotswolds, I’m just down the road 👍

I am super tempted to buy one of these. In a different colourway tho-that glossy white/petrol blue/ gold. The matte dark colours get scratched too easily and every scratch on my bike breaks my heart :):)
Also, I believe 45/50 mm wide rims would be better looking. For me personally the best look for this frame would be with Bora WTO 45.
White tape on this bike here looks awesome.

David, I could not agree more regarding the choice of groupset. I am an Ultegra man as well and would be comfortable with that groupset on any frame. To my surprise; I see the C68 comes in a size "R570" which means there is an Italian option in my frame size 🙂 Additionally, I'm happy to see that not all manufacturer's are on the 'dropped seat stay' bandwagon. Colnago as well as Cervelo with their R5 come to mind. Lastly, I agree that bike aesthetics are always a personal choice and should be left to the individual rider. (within boundaries of 'The Rules', of course), hahaha!

I have a Colnago AC-R, M10 and V1R so I think only Colnago Riders can really criticize you, but that is just my opinion. My thoughts as far as Ultegra on your bike.. well maybe just change the crank only to Dura Ace. SEEING ULTEGRA really stands out and it looks a little odd or down played. However, you make up for it with White bar tape, Michelin tires and when you put the Enve rims on your C64, forget about it. YOUR Colnago with Enves will be as dapper and smooth as any Colnago with Campagnolo EPS record. I agree with you, I don't like it when the Colnago sticker or decal fades away on a black on black color scheme. Hope to see your next video with the Colnago C64 on Enves rims. Like Snoop Dawg would say "Rollin in my 64 and let me ride." ENJOY your ride it's your bike.

Hello David. I liked the video, the selected components of the bike(even the white bar tape!) and your notes on bike's aesthetics.
However that Italian flag on seat tube is a cacophony on this harmonic ensemble. I mean they 'disappeared' the brand's logo, they lighted up the 'C68' logo and this may be the first understated Colnago, but the 'tricolore' to my eyes does not fit. They could instead add a mini flag near the bottom bracket or whatever...
On the other hand, although I am a Sram-mer, Ultegra drivetrain matte grey fits the frame's colors like glove!
I wish I had the luck to ride it but thanks to you we all got a glimpse of the feel. Thanks!

I'd go for a metallic gunmetal grey Colnago logo on this frame - same colour as the stripes on the fork. Gotta agree on Ultegra too. Probably more smooth shifting for a butter smooth frame :). As for the ceramic speed - I'm never gonna be sold on that. Chris King or Cane Creek are pretty much immortal headsets too, as long as you look after them and the whole bike obviously.

While I still think it would have been nice to have had an Italian group set, I can understand your reason for choosing the Shimano Ultegra group set. I have been well impressed with the Di2 speed Ultegra on my bike. As for 170 m/m cranks length, I afraid I can't notice the difference when I swap back to 172.5 m/m on my other bikes. All the bike fitters have been telling us for a while now that we're using cranksets that are too long, so maybe 170 m/m will become the norm ☺

Great video as always! I just received a C68 frame and the new CC01 cockpit but struggling with the computer/light mount as you have outlined. Have you found any mount that may work? The Trek Madone looks like it may work?? Curious if you have tried any others that are better built and more secured..

I am putting 12 speed Ultegra on a Cervelo bike. I was told by the bike shop that the 12 speed Ultegra had a problem with shifting if you started shifting gears while not peddling- it will lockup. Yes sometimes I start shifting while not pedaling but only for a slight amount of time. I would like to know if you are having any problems like this. I don’t have the bike yet.

Hi David, great review and I fully agree with you around the groupset choice, I've just upgraded my Bianchi Specialissima to Ultegra Di2 and put a set of Campagnolo WTO 33 wheels on it with Pirelli tubeless tires. Admittedly my bike is rim brake but it is a fair bit lighter, fully built with two cages, garmin mount and Assioma Duo pedals it's 6.7kg. I expected the C68 to be closer to 7kg.

curios question David why did you changed your Specialized Power Mirror saddle for this frame ? Did your preference changed or do you think a larger nose saddle is better for this frame overall ?
