A Faces fan for well over 50 years and I've never seen a live version of Around the Plynth my favourite track from A Nods as good as a Wink.....excellent..!!
his legacy (with the Faces) is now forever tainted by his average contribution to The Stones. They and Ronnie never did anything that compares to what they did before they met. Ronnie was a truly original player in the Faces... soooo underrated
Ron Wood is the sound he's a badass in the Faces .... Joining the stones with his chums it's a big party and punching the clock ... His tone here so defined and edgey ....
@@foxbor0 Great point in my opinion, Ronnie Wood will always be remembered for being with The Faces, for me, he just doesn't suit the Stones Reguarding live performances The Faces could match The Stones any day of the week! Unfortunately, I never got to see the Faces live but for me, they will go down as one of Britain's finest ever Bands, from 1970 to 1974 they were the best live act around.. Unmatchable
@@stevebowness9435 I saw The Stones at the Roundhouse in '71. A few weeks later I saw The Faces at the same place. After The Stones I felt privileged, but not ecstatic at having seen them. Jagger sneered at the audience for not being as enthusiastic as he'd have liked (heaven forfend that the artist that I'd slept in the street overnight in February to get a ticket for might put some effort into helping the audience enjoy the show... ). After The Faces, I felt I'd been invited to a party that the band and audience were part of. It was fantastic! It wasn't even the best Faces show I'd been to (that'd be the Queen Elizabeth Hall), but I enjoyed it infinitely more than the supposed greatest rock n roll band in the world. And that (the Stones show) wasn't even an exception. I've been more disappointed by them in concert than just about anyone else.

Sensational. Never seen this before. Pity about the French commentary but the band sounds amazing, fabulous 'live' sound with no effects or trickery, just great playing and singing.

Powerful unit. They're a players band. They're all under rated maybe apart from Rod...who people know is a mighty rock singer. But Ronnie Wood...ace...Ronnie Lane CRIMINALLY underrated bass player (great tone)...Ian McLagan was brilliant all the time...Kenny Jones...powerhouse (yet tasteful). Go on boys!

The early years 71/74 were the best. Ronnie Wood didn't get the recognition he deserved and Stewart was out front with his magic..had never seen such a performer in winter of '71...4 of us traveled from Gboro, NC to Boone, NC, sleeping in corners, heavy snow and went to leave Sunday and an ""all you can eat" place took
a look at us and asked us to leave. Back to Ronnie Wood...he paid his dues and was excellent. Mick and Keith got him and his face appeared every where. I loved every minute of it...everythimg.kljohnson074@gmai.com

So funny people don't really mention them as glam anymore because of the roots rock and rnb sound but between Ronnie and Rod they were really as glam as it got for a bit there
Thanks for both posts of this program. Pre "Nod to a Horse" lp release, but still packs a punch. Wish Ronnie was playing with "humbuckers". A Strat's a bit thin sounding for slide playing. Can't tell if he's in an open tuning. They don't show him retuning between songs.
Isn't funny, people who don't like Rod Stewart never criticise his live vocals from this era? The Faces could of rivalled the Stones and the Who if it wasn't for their dickhead manager. He used Rods early chart success of "Maggie May" to sell tickets for their concerts. Many think Rod was to blame for the Faces split, it was him. When he started to promote the band as "Rod Stewart and the Faces" that was the beginning of the end. No way was Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan, and Kenny Jones just a backing band.
Well, Lane admitted elsewhere he figured Stewart was about to pull another 'Marriott' and decided to leave before it 'happened again'. Iwill add he did seem regretful in the interview where he said it. And no, Lane, McLagan and Jones were in no way ever any sort of backing band. They had been together for years as the Small Faces along with Marriot-until he left them in a lurch. Look up the Small Faces documentary for the complete story
Hey bud, I'm not slagging off any of the Faces. If Ronnie Lane had a inkling Rod was about to leave, blame the groups manager. Once again, he used Rods single success to sell tickets. It was him who had the posters printed "Rod Stewart and the Faces" no one else.
Not meaning that at all and sorry if you took it that way. It should have been done differently and Lane-bless his heart, had already been done wrong by 'managers' in the past when they were known as the Small Faces. But he had a habit of doing things his way and his way was not always the right or best way. Just relaying the story as the others told it is all.
Ronnie might of been paranoid over managers, but this time he was right. Their manager used Rod's solo success to sell tickets, it was him who manufactured "Rod Stewart and the Faces". Nothing to do with Rod's own ego. If you listen to his interviews over the years he always said he didn't want the Faces to split. Ronnie Lane was the heart and soul of the band. When he left the writing was on the wall.

The Faces were far superior to The Stones or The Who, and I totally lost interest in Rod after they split, regardless of who was to blame, and after Ronnie joined that second rate band after that, I never heard him play guitar again. He was just lost. Sadly, Mac and Plonk are no longer with us, but Kenney is still banging the skins. Thanks to everyone who posts Faces bootlegs. Bless your cotton socks.
Just to make it clear for all those who follow (including myself!) I believe Wood and Lane purposely gave the French identical false christian names ie 🦆and🦆. (no just quackers jokes please). However there should be no distraction from the phenomenally top drawer 🎵. Long may they live ❤️.

HaHa... 2:00 The French got almost everyone's name wrong.. Donald Wood, Donald Lane , Ian mac laglan.....
In terms of musicality, it's just an extension of The Small Faces who were a really tight rhythm band.....Woody just took over from Marriott.
