This was Ronnie Lane’s last performance with the band. 😮
Ronnie wood just superb his tone and ideas were off the scale, a Damm fine vocalist too.
Saw this 1973 Ronnie Lane set up
At UCSB outdoors in the Santa Barbara
Springtime sunshine.
Henry Gross then Dave Mason
And then Rod Stewart & the Faces.
Un real dance party with thousands of
California babes in the sun...
Ronnie Wood played his best with the Faces. Tearing it up.
This was at the recently closed Regal Cinema, now a Lidl.
When we were young
When all this virus shit is over we.ll drink and dance again
Quality. I’m 70 this year and still love the Faces. Timeless classics.
I saw Faces twice. The first time; Feb of '71 and again on May 12, 1973-just 3 weeks before this show. I greatly miss Mac and Ronnie. What a band.
I'm envious. I was 13 when Stewart left the Faces to start his solo career. Never got to see the Small Faces or the Faces. Sort of missed the rock and roll version of Rod.
The Faces and Rod Stewart were perennial favorites from 1970 until around this time. I think I saw some ideation of them four times (twice a year). They (with other musicians) toured with Rod as a solo artist and also as the Faces. A short lived but astonishing band. When you know the full names of all the band members, you know you like them a lot.
Bass runs from beyond. Great talent, gone to soon. Will see you Mr. Lane, in another world!
Great fucking bass playing, kids! That was Ronnie Lane. Know him and his influence. Sweetness!
These guys had FUN when they played live. I didn't get to see them but I have no doubt that a Faces show is one to remember. Look at the pieces; Rod, Woody, Ronnie Lane, Kenny Jones and Ian. My God, what a lineup. I want to point out Ronnie. His tone and his playing is very much like Woody's bass on Beck-Ola. Just in your face with hair on the gain. Their music is timeless. Along with Badfinger, The Faces are one of my all time favorite bands from Great Britain.
73 Great year to be young. He was relentless too! 🔥
We were lucky enough to get balcony front row seats for this one after many Faces gigs in the middle of the crowd rushing the stage. It was odd waking up the next morning without being black and blue! The best live band of my lifetime and the Edmonton series of gigs had them at the top of their game ❤
I can hear myself screaming !
The Famous Final Scene!!! The very first Rock and Roller-old ROD!!!!
Some great moments with Ronnie Lane. RIP lad.
Probably one of his last shows before he left the Faces.
They should be playing his songs. But it was all Rod the Mod.
Late to the party, but just ran across this concert. One of the greatest bands ever. So much talent in all members. Back when Ronnie Wood actually played guitar. He seems to have lost his imagination with the stones. There is definitely not the same dynamics amongst the boys as in the past. It's still pure unadulterated rock and roll. Man they were great.
If you look up stones live stones stuff from the stones first tour with Woody in 75 he's just as good and brings his faces inventiveness and I feel like he still showed glimpses of it until about 78 but I think after the first tour he was reigned in for some reason. A real shame as ronnie was a tremendous player at his peak and he's become so underrated over time
Faces underrated great version of a hendrix classic
Rod The Mod at his best. Before he got dragged into the parody of "Atlantic
Crossing", he had it all - style, humour and a magnificent voice.
The Faces were rough and ready, and utterly brilliant.
They were the ultimate lads' band with soul. The version of "Angel" is the best tribute
to Jimi imaginable. Sam Cooke didn't die in a seedy motel in 1964, he just changed
his name to Rod Stewart.....
Anybody who saw this gig in 1973 knew they were in the presence of greatness.
Think Rod had crossed the Rubicon by this time. Most of the songs are his solo songs and the Faces music ignored. This will have been the time when Ronnie Lane was getting disillusioned
yeah, it shows. ronnie has lost his strut for the most part and rod is the STAR of the show. Had to ff a minute to see the other band. And the keyboarded NEVER looks happy, imo, but he sure looked happier a few year earlier.
Funny how knowing now what comes a year later, you can see here Rod Stewart taking over the limelight. I don't blame him for wanting to do more of his stuff and I don't blame Ronnie Lane for seeing the signs and leaving the band, like the Beatles they were moving on, realizing they had different aspirations. The Faces playing their own music at the top of their game were so tight. The albums don't reflect the stage energy shown in the live clips here, but are good solid works of art.
SPOT ON MATE... Stunning if you can put it into context.
No "Stay with Me" + no "Every Picture Tells a Story" = no Faces.
Love how Ronnie breaks into Memo from Turner during his solo in Borstal Boys. Great Rendition👏👏
Great call Andrew. So well spotted.
I don't think he played on that recording. But that was certainly clever playing.
Can someone please wind the clock back 50 years?
Borstal boys the boys finally come together and show us why we love the band the faces " not rod Stewart and the faces " ronnie and Ken duet simply the best, Mac and Ron keeping it going , lucky I have my memories and u tube to keep me smiling ,cheers 🍻🇬🇧🎹🎤🎸🎸😉

Too many ballads here.
Too much crooning.
Wish they had played more rockers like;
Miss Judy's Farm
Stay With Me
Memphis
That's All You Need
Silicone Grown
Kenny Jones brilliant
This is Ronnie Lane's final gig with Rod and The Faces. I saw them the following year at Lewisham Odeon (minus Ronnie, sadly). But still superb!
I too was at this gig, aged 16. Saw 'em same venue in Dec '73.
Awesome I went to the Dec Xmas Eve gig at the the sundown Edmonton, I thought Tetsu played one of his first for Faces. Ronnie Lane was the heartbeat of the group.👏👏
I think Watford & then Edmonton were the best of The Faces ever, shame I was too young & missed them just heard about it! Was at every concert they did after, Lewersham, Killburn , Wembely Arena to name a few!
Edmonton Dec 1973 was the best for me. They were a much tighter band with Tetsu. My favorite concert ever. Great sound, great fun.
Ronnie and Kenny..... 👌
When Ron Wood was a badass guitarist 🌟
Yes he was.
I started to buy lps on 72. First: chicago V, second black sabbath four, then rod's Never a dull moment. Recently i bought it for my daughter in law: she is super fan ... and me always so !!
Where did all the good times go
I was at this concert. They did 3 days in a row this year in December-21st-22nd and 23rd,was at them all.The usher at the Sundown was a man called Ronnie-i worked with him at Murrays in Ponders End.He used to get free tickets and sell them for a small price.Best time of my life-i was 19 and full of myself! Ha ha.
Same here 19 yrs young with spiky hair and a tartan scarf best night ever! 👏👏
Mind you I was a bit drunk so I might be wrong with the Tetsu comment, the boys were amazing and Rod's voice as always raw and soulful.👏👏
Saw msg nyc ..nod gd as wink tour..snuck in me n nicky ricci..now?? Im old
This is a great band
I was there!
Me too!
Jagger and Stewart, beat performers of 70's.
Plant, Tyler, Rodgers, Mercury, Marriott, Daltrey, Wolf, etc...
Rod Stewart was never better than when he was with the FACES. After that, Rod was the commercial Rod.
HIS VOICE AND HEART FELT LYRICS ARE LIKE HEAVEN. :)
I saw The Faces in Melbourne, Australia, about eight months after this concert. Unfortunately Ronnie Lane had left by then and while Tetsu was good he wasn't Ronnie. RIP Ronnie, the soul of The Faces. The Faces only toured Australia once.
The sound gets much batter at 10:20. Lovin' Ronnie Lane in a rare video appearance.
Konig Corvus Ronnie Lane was the heart of the band.
Still sounds like shit.
Thank you for saying that. From Detroit Mich
❤
This was at what was The Regal, Edmonton where I saw so many acts over the years. I must have seen Rory Gallagher there at least a dozen times. My elder sister saw the Motown Roadshow perform there! It was demolished to make way for a rubbish supermarket.
"The Best or the Drunkest band in the world!" greatness is somewhere in between.
Great post - what a band they were!!
Fly on Sweet Angel, Jimi.
Seen the Faces a few times. Swing Auditorium in San Bernadino was one of the best concerts I ever attended. What a fun band. Passin out bottles to the audience. Favorite memory of that show was when a BIG girl mounted the stage runnin towards RS. He fell to a fetal position as he ran past him and grabbed a beach ball that had bounced on stage.
This is what the black crowes wish they were.
My first ever live music gig, I looked for myself but the picture quality weren’t that good those days. It’s a shame the start wasn’t shown, the can-can dancers were memorable!
Thanks for this upload!
Definately I can get into Rod’s sound!!
I was at this concert when I was 16 (talk about a walk down memory lane)! So excited going to see Rod tonight at the O2 a few years later!
Joanne Marsh lightning strikes twice for you. Green with envy here.
Me too - I was 17!
Bob Dylan…”I Don’t Believe You”. Exact same song as “I’d rather go blind.” Except maybe 10years younger.
Thanks SoOo much for sharing, Jorge!!! XoXo
They made Rock fun.
Oh the memories.I was there. Those were the days when you could see mega groups in an intimate venue.I also saw the Who at the same venue the same year. Its now a Lidl
This is the real Rod.The rocker
"Its now a Lidl".....
:)
Tops!
esse é o cara adoro 😘😘
VEDO TUTTI CANTANTI ANCHE BRAVI ...MA IL TUO VISO IL TUO ESSERE ...MI PIACE MOLTO !!!!!! 6 MAGNIFICOOOOOOOO TI AMOOOOOO ❤ ❤ ❤ 💋 💋 💋! !!!!
The original "garage band" !
Lane's bass is superb (well in the tradition of Paul McCartney, but a lot more present in the overall sound of The Faces)
I was there too! Amazing to watch again, thanks Jorge. I remember the balcony being in danger of collapsing under the jumping! Just seen Rod again tonight at O2. Ronnie Wood, and looks like Ronnie Lane was still in the Faces then.
I was downstairs which was just standing. It was Ronnie's last concert with the group
Brenda Hobday Ronnie looks kind of miserable here.
These were the last months of Ronnie lane leaving The Faces ? Ronnie Lane was the spark!
I saw The Faces at Festival Hall in Melbourne (Australia) in 1974 when I was 17. Unfortunately Ronnie Lane had left the band by then, replaced by Tetsu, which was a real pity I loved Ronnie's playing. The band was great though and literally fell onto the stage (drunk, probably) to the strains of 'The Stripper' :) RIP Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan.
Que pasado excéntrico jajaja. lindo
A group of us were there! Amazing. At one point, Rod started kicking a number of footballs out into the audience, the guy next to me caught one. The circle was bouncing up and down, I thought it might collapse - the place had been built as a cinema, not for crazy Faces rockers!
The beginning of the end,,,,lots of material from Stewart's solo albums not much of the real Faces as on 'Nod's as good as a wink..'.
Christopher Franklin they all played on every picture tells a story album
Que belleza ....vistiera lo que fuera lucía biennnnnn
What a great version of Angel by Jimi Hendrix !!!!
Is that Ron Wood's silver Zematis guitar?
Yes he had a few ...,🌟
27:00 “Maggie May”
1400 to 170 time is great!
Que belleza de video jorge.tienes una subcriptora nueva
Leave the rent with the gent up in the penthouse...... proper lyrics.
The only guy who really looks like he's into it is Kenny Jones on drums.
Mike Baudic Ronnie Lane wasn’t happy here and quit right after this show.
That’s Kenney Jones if you don’t Mind.
Saw the faces in 74 (i think) better than zzepplin rock on!!
Tomaaaarrouuuuu
Jimi!!!
Setlist

I'd Rather Go Blind (Etta James)

You Wear It Well (Rod Stewart)
Maggie May (Rod Stewart)
Borstal Boys (Faces)

Missing from video:
Memphis, Tennessee (Chuck Berry)
We'll Meet Again (Vera Lynn)
I watched this on TV back in the day, and that broadcast did include Memphis, Tennessee -- wish it was on this video, I can't find it anywhere.
Would this be last tour before Ronnie became a 'Stone'..?
recman1207 no The faces final tour finished in the US in 1975
Why were they originally not going to play Borstal Boys? What happened to change Rod's mind?
I believe this is the time and place that Ronnie Lane told the band he was quitting. Just before this show, if memory serves... Can anyone confirm this?
Yep, this is Ronnie's last gig with them.
At 00:33 someone in the audience has a sign resting on the monitors that looks like it says "Farewell Ronnie".
Konig Corvus Correct. Ronnie didn't want to be a suppport player for Rod. No more Lead Singers Syndrome, which they'd had with S. Marriott
The set list, says it all!
I was at the last night of 3 at the Sundown n they introduced Tetsu half way through. Ronnie Wood was set to leave to join the Rolling Stones after that tour as far as I can remember! First gig I ever went to when I was 12 n got right to the front dead centre stage looking up Rod's nose pretty much lol!! :-)
No, Woods quit in 74, this was 73
Joey O Conner you watching here?
Kenny`s drunk???
AQUI RONNIE TOCABA MEJOR Q CON LOS ROLLINGS
Yes, Rod was stellar compared to what he later became. But gone completely is the whole Faces camraderie. I don't see Woody, Mac, and especially Lane smile once during the show. Too many ballads. Mind you - every one was great, but a live gig, one after the other? "Angel" almost saves it all though.
palacerevolution2000 Ronnie Lane had had enough of The Rod Show right here. He quit the band right after this show.
@@PatriotSteve Wow Steve, it is obvious that Lane was on his last legs in the band. But I didn't know that it was his last show. Everyone knows that he was the soul of the Faces. Had he already hooked up with his gypsy woman at the time? Yeah, it s too bad that Rod turned this great band into his backing band. At the time his solo career was still really of high calibre.
yup, June of ‘73 right after Edmonton he quit. Even worse was Rod bad-mouthing The Face’s new album, which Ronnie wrote many of the songs. Ronnie L must’ve been a mess during this show.
Angezogen sieht er besser aus! He looks better when he's dressed. (He ain't a Mick Jagger!)
He sounds great, but his band is not good. They sound sleepy.
I agree. They are kinda phonin' it in. Even Rod is a kinda lifeless. The Faces did have a reputation for being lighting in a bottle one night and or really sloppy the next. This one seems to be somewhere in between, maybe because one of the guys was calling it quits that night.
wtf?
Fuck sake. Rod is as Scottish as Jan Molby is Scouse.😂
