Sephiroth himself ist not a bad person. He is a victim of the experiments of his parents Hojo and Lucrecia.
They implementedJenova cells into fetuses. Those fetuses became Sephiroth, Genesis and Angeal.
Jenova itself is a parasite which lands on different planets to suck its "life-energy"
Sephiroth was irritated in Nibelheim and thought mankind erased the ancient folk of Creta and thought he was the last survivor. So he killed the townspeople in Nibelheim as revenge and hatred against Shinra. However, the truth is, that Jenova killed the Creta when it landed on the planet.
After Cloud had thrown Sephiroth and Jenovas head to the bottom of the Nibelheim reactor, Jenova and Sephiroth fusioned together in the stream of life.
From that point on Jenova controlled the body of sephiroth and the story of the main FF7 begins.
In a nutshell:
Jenova is the bad thing in Final Fantasy VII, not Sephiroth. The goal is to erase Jenova which happened in FF7: Advent Children

@Mr. Positive It's hinted he liked Tifa, at least in CC. But when he took on Zack's burdens he gained his romance with Aerith as well. Not to say that he had feelings for Aerith, but Zack did.

I like how Cloud and Zack (and even Sephiroth) are all protective of Tifa.

There's an interesting theory saying that Cloud might have some kind of extraordinary abilities, even without Jenova cells, due to the fact that the planet chose him to save her from Sephiroth and Jenova. Then seeing it was not working, she created the Weapons, but ultimately Cloud ended up doing the task the planet gave him. I personally like to think that even his last weapon (Ultima weapon I think) is the materialisation of this wish the planet had. Plus you find it on the Ultima Weapon when you defeat her so it could make sense. Maybe some kind of test to see if he was worthy or something.
Or it might just be his great physical abilities which he always had. But because he didn't believed in his capacities at the time he wasn't able to use them until he was going to die.
You survive you adapt you overcome.

What I liked with this was the in game message system, after Tifa gets Zacks number, she starts sending increasingly inquisitive messages asking if Zack knows anything about a blond haired SOLDIER, obviously fishing for information about Cloud, oh the irony that she spends nearly 1/2 hour dragging Cloud down the mountains from the reactor and she didn't realise at all.

got Killed by Seph and is on runaway with Cloud since they became experiments that ran away
on the way, met Angeal copy (Lazard) but died in the end.
tried offering Genesis help but instead got a boss fight (lol xD).
the Angeal copy monster from Midgar died protecting Lazard and brought him Aerith's 89th (last) letter sent to Zack.

Probably bad wording, but I think meant the actual bladed part instead of the blunt side. Still doesn’t hold up when every time he’s controlled, he actually uses it, but maybe there are off-screen moments thats true?

Yeah it's unfortunate that the Compilation portrays Cloud as such an emo kid, when in fact he laughed, cracked jokes, flirted, and messed around all throughout Final Fantasy VII. Tetsuya Nomura completely changed his character to being somber beginning with Advent Children, and has unfortunately left casual Final Fantasy viewers thinking he's an unsmiling git, but really he was quite the loveable jackass in the original game.

When Tifa was carrying cloud back to niblehelm from the attack, I was supprised she didnt have the urge to take off clouds helmet to give him more breathing space

Aw, it's so nice to see Cloud smiling and normal. Even his voice is lighter (granted he was much younger but still, it's happier!) Then all the shit goes down in ff7 which turns Cloud super angsty in AC. In Dirge of Cerberus he is a bit better, but he'll never be the adorable innocent Cloud he is in CC ever again.
And why do they say the only time he laughed was with Aerith?
In the original game it is the only time you see him laugh, the only other time being at the very end of AC.

It breaks my heart to know that the real reason Tifa asked “just the two of you?” Is her secretly worrying and wanting to see Cloud again. And yet, our Boy was too ashamed to admit he didn’t make soldier. And that he was there all along, just as depicted when Tifa and Cloud restore his memory in FFVII. Did it never cross Zack’s mind to refer to or talk to Cloud? Even in uniform?! For a boy who was ashamed of his lack of accomplishment, he became something more later on: Zack’s Living Legacy, and Angeal’s descended disciple.

I was wondering how Zack knew that it was Cloud in the line up but I realised it was because Zack knows Cloud's shy mannerisms. Everyone in the line up was completely straight but Cloud slouched a little then stood up as Zack approached. Daaa gotta love Zack and Cloud. Such sweethearts.
(spoiler ahead, don't read if you'd rather complete the game first)
Tifa has known it all along, even since the day she first reunited with Cloud before the beginning of FF7 and realized that something was wrong with Cloud, she had doubts. That was why she invited Cloud to join AVALANCHE to figure out more. Certainly she knew that Cloud was telling an untrue story, but she remained silent then because she was worried. But in disc 2, things will become clearer as Tifa clarifies their memories...

I remembered this a long time back... but I still can't help but wondering... How the hell did Cloud's name not ever mentioned in front of Tifa during the whole expedition? I mean he was assigned to keep Tifa safe, he got himself wounded, he got carried all the way back to Nibelheim.. so like.. how da hell.
+PikPim32 cloud didn't forget anything. He didn't talk to Tifa because he told her that he was going to get in SOLDIER. Since that didn't happen he didn't want to disappoint her.

Cloud looked so young innocent and untainted 😭
That’s what makes Cloud’s arc so endearing. He goes from young innocence, to multiple personalities for coping with his dead friend, to finding himself once again, to questioning if he’s worthy of protecting the world, to finally coming to terms with everything that has transpired and being content with himself and his life.

If you've played all the way through you eventually learn that the memories of Niblehiem are actually Zacks, not Clouds. After escaping Hojo's lab he's confused, and disoriented, and takes not only a lot of Zacks memories, but a bit of his personality as well. On the date with Aeris,, she notes that "I think I must have seen him again in you"
Since the game is from Cloud's perspective, we can only know as much as he does, we see what he sees, and if he think they're his memories, than so do we.

Well, if I remember right, it was Hojo's Mako experiments on Cloud that messed with his mind and gave him his multiple personality disorder. We don't actually get to see Cloud's original personality again until the end of FF7, and then in Advent Children they made him brooding and too emo.
What about in Dirge of Cerberus? He finally moved on in the end of Advent Children, and I saw him back to normal in Dirge of Cerberus. Anyway, imagine contracting a strange disease that has no cure, while still in mourning of a friend's death, and he can't help to think it was a punishment. Oh and when he couldn't help healing the orphan he cares about. He's brooding, yes, he looks for forgiveness, right? I wouldn't be happy too if I contracted a weird disease. Emo?? At least he's not doing stupid things like trying to kill himself. Heck, he even still fought Kadaj and the gang. If he's so emo, he would have let himself killed the first time he was attacked by Yazoo and Loz. He just feels unworthy, and many people experience that at some points in their lives. Do you expect heroes to be always heroic, without weaknesses, all the time in their lives? I mean, that is the idea of his character, a hero that's actually weak with lots of flaws. But his good nature remains, then it's "good always wins against bad" kind of thing as always.

***** Well, many deemed his personality in AC to be too emo/somber. This leads to haters labeling him negatively, without considering some things. I don't blame him, though I prefer his personality in Crisis Core or Original Game. It's just what he'd been through that made him "emo".
***** It's not that he's not calm in FF7 Original Game or DoG, or even in CC. I think he's always pretty calm, even though he was kind of brash when he was a kid. But he's never as somber/broody as he's in AC (I guess that's what everybody disliked). Like in CC or Original Game, he's calm but he has a sense of humour and a bit more lighthearted/confident, I think? While he looks like he's in so much pain in AC (for obvious reasons people fail to understand). Oh well, at least he's fine now.

Damn, and this is why FFVII is so beloved. A main character who started out as a nobody, who wanted to be a somebody and was able to achieve that dream (even if the experience basically sucked). I also love Steve Burton's voice acting in this game (except for Zack's death... :( ) I think he really captures the quiet, shy boy that Cloud was at first. (please do not screw up the remake, Burton, we are counting on you!)

I've been playing the original FF7 this week to get ready for the Remake and one thing I noticed is that Cloud starts off as a bit of a silent jerk, but around the second bombing mission and definitely when he meets Aeris / Aerith he turns into a little bit of a goof while still being a badass. I hope the Remake still fits that goofiness in there

Cloud was 15/16 at this point. I wound up taking on 1,000 foot soldiers and 3 helicopters. Cloud ended up saving the world, twice. If that isn't manly I don't know what manly is.
Zack did kill Genesis with the power of Lifestream which basically saving the world, and he fought him ALONE having no sleep in the past 4 days
