I miss soft, gentle and happy Sephiroth. He was bound to find out the truth of his origin and it ripped him apart, but... beforehand he looked so happy and full of pride.
@Rodrick Young Im sure he did when he joined the lifestream, as his real mother Lucrecia Crescent is encased in a crystal of mako infused with the lifestream. Though his urge from the Jenova cells that bonded with him on a cellular level to create the S Cells are what drive him to be who he is.
Aw, the look on Seph's face when Zack says "I'll hold you to that." It's like the thought crossed his mind that, after losing his only two friends, he might have just found a new one :')
@@eriksigalraven8340 nah zack just didn't know about sephi's origins story one day they're friends the other he destroyed an entire village with it's innocent people what do you expecte yourself to do in that case poor zack but at the same poor sephi's it wasn't his fault all his life was a lie if zack knew that before I believe he would set things out sephi's would still be the same good guy and zack would still be alive , well sadly that never happened... *go to hell hojo*
Poor Sephy, he had some dry humor “ permanent record” he was caring, apologetic. He felt betrayed and dissapointed knowing his two bestest friend left him but he just keeps his emotion bottle up so much cuz he wanted to do the right thing. Until the truth about his origin broke him and drove him mad. What a tragic hero, really miss the kind hero sephiroth in crisis core
@@-TakingSomeLs really. His former self is entirely different than the Sephiroth we see today. It's painful to see what the hero has become. I know he doesn't deserve it now but I wish I could give him a big hug for the kind Sephy he had in himself once, even if I get impaled trying doing so 😢
@@hologramoustenebris5734 Read the fanfic 'The cold hearted boy' ( by TheCalamity) on Ao3. It's quite popular in the fandom I think. It made me love him even more 🥺
Maybe they should make a revamp where Sephiroth gets saved from his own darkness by the light of Cloud and his friends and they can finally have Sephiroth come back to being the hero and good guy he once was....That would be a nice end to FF7
@@randomanimefan0154 i'd like to think Genesis fits the role better for that than Cloud. After CC and everything else, Genesis seems to be the only one left who's capable of reaching out to Sephiroth. No one else in the living world would, they all hate him esp Cloud. But Genesis would understand, even if he decides to become the Planet's hero at the ending. At least a final confrontation them would provide closure.
I always thought Sephiroth was cooler as a good guy then a villain. He makes a great villain, definitely, but an ever greater hero. But that's just me.
So much is said with the subtle exchanges they have here and I love it. He reads zack's face and knows that he wants to get back and to see aerith so he gives permission. Also that bit at the end you can tell that zack really wants to talk to sephiroth but also doesn't want to disrespect him, and the way that sephiroths brief annoyance softens as he really understands. It's all so genuine. They truly gave sephiroth a heart in this game and the subtle ways it shows are just beautiful.
This side has only been amplified by Crisis Core's storyline but it's pretty obvious in the game too, on Cloud's memories you can see how chill and cool he was. That is why i belive he's so well written and introduced in all the games: When the kindest, most human of us all fall they become the worst demons.
Mhm. Many religious stories even have it that Lucifer was the one closest to god, and then he fell. It doesn't surprise the idea that the kindest of people can become the cruelest of demons when their ideals and hopes have been shattered.
Out of all the characters in FF7, Sephiroth had the most tragic story of them all. When you think about it, Final Fantasy 7 is the aftermath of the 3 friends who learned the truth of their origins. One died, the other fell to insanity, and the other found the Gift of the Goddess.
Big Boss You are so wrong, Its been implied that the next time Genesis awakens, it is because the world needs a hero. His issues are resolved in crisis core and he already regained his soldier pride.
@@trungbui7304 He wanted to die. But Minerva revived him and healed him. The reason for her to do that is unknown. But even if he will be the "hero" he did not acted on it: when Sepiroth tried to destroy the planet he stayed on his ass. And for some reason he helped Hojo to recreat Omega. How is that considered "heroic" ? He also took away the dead Omega impling he has further plans with it.
Its so sad knowing how nice and humane Sephiroth can be before all the shit hit the fan.. Even perceptive enough to be able to tell what zack was thinking (about going back to the slums to aerith)
Sorry for necro'ing this post, but I fully agree. I like Sephiroth for what he was before he went insane, and not for the villain he became, or the butchered remains he is now.
ffantasia24 its worse to knowing how while he was nice - everyone especially zack considered him as a lifeless object and lowest creature over whom no one would griefing
1:16 "the slums too" Fuck man, you can tell Sephiroth knew about Zach and Aerith, which is why he is bringing it up to inform Zach because he knows she's important to him. 1:58 "we'll meet again soon" and he knew Zach had questions about this whole ordeal with genesis, angeal, and whatnot, so he's giving him assurance that they'll get to the bottom of this and figure things out. If only that remained true til the end :( Sephiroth would have been a great ally, mentor, and a friend to Zach, and zach maybe wouldn't have died at the end....
Yeah ngl, Sephiroth would have been a great ally to Zack and the others had he not been misguided about his origins. If Vincent had woken up prior to the Nibelheim incident, he would have mentioned Lucrecia to him and how Hojo was responsible for his birth.
@@rogue1248Bro if Zack woke him up from under the mansion it would’ve changed everything, mans so polite he let Vincent sleep tho. I love how Sephiroth is just so self aware though like “I know you have questions Zack, I do too. We’ll figure it out later, go hang with your girlfriend.”
Did you know that sephiroth and aerith were supposed to be lovers, then tetsuya nomura changed them to siblings but then he would be a lesser villain, instead they just added Zack to the last puzzle to be with aerith instead. that also explains why they have the same front bangs...
that's why I luv crisis core, in original ff7 it just made him look cold before he went crazy, but here they make him much human character, making his descent into madness they much more tragic
Only Two Peoble remember him then. Cloud who was not Clear in his Head and a Nobody Soldier and Tifa a 15 Year old Girl at this Time. That could be a Reason why Sephiroth was cold for us when they talkt about him. Not to forget that they hade pure Hate for Sephiroth because of Niebelheim.
Sane Sephiroth is totally my type...cool calm confident, but still a kind gentleman. I was soo in love with him during crisis core..lol, second to Vincent Valentine. I gave my PSP to a friend cause other games were not on par.
Sephiroth before he went batshit was such a good hero, I'm pretty sure everyone who has seen him when playing the game loved him And then when he became a villain, the difference between him as a hero and now is so vast and striking that he's also one of the best villains in fiction imo Sephiroth's just great
I think that Sephiroth.....really needed a mommy. A real mommy. His mommy. I'm sure what see here is thanks to Professor Gast but.....he needed Lucrecia.
Oh totally, he was probably very emotionally neglected as a kid, being raised by shinra scientists and all. If he'd had a proper upbringing maybe he would've never snapped
All Sephiroth ever wanted was a family. Somewhere to belong. But good god maybe Lucretia ain't the best option. 😅 I mean, as a biologist myself, HELLO SHE INJECTED HER UNBORN CHILD WITH UNIDENTIFIED ALIEN CELLS? That's not even sound practice! And as a child who had a volatile mother as well, she was NOT mentally equipped to care for a child. Lucretia needed help. If anything, Vincent would've been a good father figure for him, honestly. He's got his head screwed on better than everyone else in that lab, I think. That being said, I do wonder what would have happened if Lucretia emerged from her crystal during the events of the game. Or at any point in seph's life, really.
From what I can tell, he lost it because his only friends, the only people he truly cared about in the world, started to die before his eyes, then turned their backs on him. THEN he finds out the person he grew up thinking was his mother was actually an insane alien being and that he was created for the sole purpose of being a weapon, not made with love like good parents should. What he needed was a child to grow up with as another friend and emotional support for when the others left. Poor guy.
+stevieFFmaster Genesis didn't somehow return, we see that he didn't really die and Weiss and Nero took him away. It's also been hinted that Sephiroth's friendship with Genesis and Angeal was rocky, with him saying "I wonder" when Zack told him they were tight. I'm sure he felt betrayed when neither of them came to him about their plans and just left. Or maybe they did and it didn't go well, we don't know. As for Zack, he barely knew Sephiroth. So all in all it's not unreasonable that Sephiroth would think no one cares about him. Despite that he still showed kindness for a long time to people, I think that's more then most people would do after living the life he had lived.
+Lunar Blossom ye its really suck to be him, on his place i wouldnt be so kind and i would beat shit out of zack on constant basis - he is the most annoying out there
ye - they were such a best friends that when sephiroth said "my mother died" he never bothered give his condolescense - well, it was expectable - mean he considered sephiroth as sort of animal or worse, he always disparaged him so of course it was never occured to him to treat sephiroth as human being - he even scolded lazard for being kind to sephiroth cause in his opinion sephiroth is a freak, therefore shouldnt be treated with kindness
How to make sephiroth remain the good guy 1. NEVER TAKE HIM TO NIBELHEIM OR HE'LL GO CRAZY ABOUT HIS MOMMY. 2. Never say/or talk about Jenova front of him even behind his back.
Kylo Ren Most of it Is Hollender and Hojo's fault, if they treated there sons like human beings and told them truth then crap wouldn't had hit the fan but nope. they were just Science project to those dead beats. 😞
Honestly, Hojo is the real villain of FFVII. While Jenova may be the origin of the conflict, Hojo is the one that facilitated its return, and completely willingly.
Well, he did actually take his time to try and form a bond with Zack, which I find very adorable. Sephiroth wanted to be closer to Zack and become his friend.
The subtlety to their relationship, Seph’s understanding to Zack’s need to be in Migar. The two would’ve been besties both in & out of work, if not for Sephiroth misunderstanding his past. The fate of a SOLDIER is always a sad one.
See this. This is what I want to see in the Remake. This bond is long dead and buried and can never be back but I'd appreciate a subtle nod to the short lived friendship that did exist once if and when Zack and Sephiroth meet each other in the remake.
At this point Sephiroth felt abandoned by his only two friends he had, Angeal and Genesis, and with Angeal being dead and Genesis gone he found himself to be able to somewhat express himself to Zack. A shame the Jenova Cells are what initially triggered his madness. Had he still been sane he probably wouldve left with Zack and Cloud as he had intended to "Abandon Shinra" from what he said to Zack before the Nibelheim mission.
playing as Sephiroth would completely kill off the character's mystery side and charisma, although it would be interesting in gameplay. I preferred a full movie about his youth (with Hojo, Genesis and Angeal would be Heaven) like Advent Children, with a more interesting story. Sephiroth has a complex personality which would be more apt to be transcribed in a book or a movie. Besides, before he went mad upon finding out his origins, fighting was all Sephiroth did. There wouldn't be a lot of varied missions with this character. But I'm only talking about the Crisis Core period and before, and that's only my opinion.
+Fallon Jeffers I blame Dr. Gast. e_e Why him? Because his carelessness gave rise to a dangerous science project while his negligence gave Dr. Hojo more power. When things took a turn for the worse, he jetted and left Dr. Hojo to his own devices and Sephiroth to fend for himself. Dr. Gast had already known about the fate of Lucrecia by then. You'd think he'd try to take Sephiroth with him during his escape or come back for him. But nope, Dr. Gast simply starts his own family and conducts his research over the origins of Jenova. In that regard, you can understand why I blame him for everything. He's one of the major sources of Sephiroth's abandonment issues (second to Sephiroth's mother dying). The very man he looked up to as a boy didn't come back to save him. Is it really a wonder why Sephiroth clings to an alien who promises him the world? Because, everyone else (from Gast to Hojo to even Lucrecia) let Sephiroth down. :/ So yeah. Dr. Gast is the one I hate. e_e
***** But that's the thing... Gast still abandoned Sephiroth. He could've taken Sephiroth with him or at least stayed to make sure nothing happened to him. Instead, Gast hightailed it and started his own family. Gast already knew how fucked up Hojo was, but left the man to his own madness anyway. We only know Sephiroth respected Gast back when Sephiroth was sane. But afterward? Keep in mind, Sephiroth gained knowledge of the Lifestream after his death (which is how he learned of the Black Materia), so he would've known Aerith was Gast's daughter. If you're an emotional boy abandoned by a man you considered a close fatherly figure (which is implied in the game), chances are high you'll be filled with bitterness. I suspect Sephiroth killing Aerith was a personal matter for him on top of a priority; a bit of sibling rivalry and a way to cut ties with a man he once trusted.
the reason why sephiroth is so great. he was a good guy once. he went crazy later. but did he really go crazy? he was doing what he thought was right. in his eyes he was a hero.
Of course Sephiroth is not anti-social. His mentality is really good. He was sympathetic and everything good. Just the knowledge of Jenova gave him the messiah complex. Those who hate Sephiroth they never even try to understand what a cruel tragedy he has had.
It would be cool if they made a game where you play as Sephiroth in the Wutai War/Meaningless War - whatever the official name is. See him rise through the ranks, defeat powerful enemies, and see how he could've been a really good guy, maybe similar to Zack in how he could be really eager and outgoing. Then through the war see him become hardened and set him up to be in a perilous mental state so that when FF7 comes around, it makes more sense why his mind finally broke.
Even still, this game went quite a ways to humanize the guy. This transition into evil made a ton more sense than the one scene good, next scene evil we get in the mansion.
the reason why enix apparently didn't is bc it would be "too easy" since sephiroth is like, the best of the best. he could prolly one shot anyone without a wince.
Bruh when Sephiroth turned bad it blew me the fuck away. Before this game the only knowledge I had of Sephiroth was the Kingdom Hearts version, and even then he was as edgy as cloud was in that game so I didn’t know what to expect.
I like the way Sephiroth is before he turns crazy in Nibelheim. And I definatley like the friendship between Zack and Sephiroth... I think it's just sad how it turns out. And I am not able to hate Sephiroth... not really.
Some lines of Sephiroth to Zack : "They mention nothing of...old friends (Angeal). Depending on how's going to end I'm going to abbandon Shinra, though I remain faithful to SOLDIER until then". OK guys he was raging about what happen to Angeal and company as well... Maybe Zack did not get chess pieces were moving around the place already. Seph was treated like a dna modified dog...fed with lies and bullshit...I mean come on!
And while Sephiroth was raving mad during Nibelheim incident he actually considered Cloud and Zack as obstacle at best: he only fought them when they got in his way. When Sephiroth was plunged to life-stream he then boiled in his own rage for five years, thinking about how rookie kid had managed to stop him from reaching his "glorius future." So his transformation from CC to Advent Children was gradualism, and not jumping off the slippery slope, even if FF7 did kind of imply that.
I feel like no one actually met the real. Sephiroth, not even Zack. Because Sephiroth always hides his emotions. He smiles when no one looks or hides behind his bangs. That gentle smile, no one saw it. We are going to see it in HD soon. I would love to see, at least a little bit of pre NIBELHEIM Sephiroth.
I've never seen him as a villain even if that's what he became. If only he was stopped just in time from losing himself I wonder how the events several years later would have played out. Him, Zack and Cloud escaping Shinra and SOLDIER to then follow the path Cloud did as a member of Avalanche. Sephiroth would've had plenty of intel on them to claim an upper hand. I dunno.. As a newcommer to FF7 this breaks my heart. He was never a villain in my eyes and will remain that way.
People may not like the idea, but I believe Sephiroth deserves redemption by the time the Compilation of FFVII ends. In fact, that's how it should end. Genesis and Sephiroth standing together redeemed as Zack and Angeal watch from the Lifestream.
+Kowareta Ningyo its been said that while Sephiroth was very angry, Jenova did manage to get the best of him and control him. Break him free of Jenova's control and have Lucrecia reveal the truth, I wonder if Spehiroth will become normal again...
+CrystalLaserVids and what the truth it is? how it change fact that he was doomed from the start, looked down by everyone, being hated by everyone and never had a chance to be accepted in society?
Eriksigal Raven Most, if not all residents of Midgar respected Sephiroth and hailed him as a hero, except for Avalanche and everyone else who knew what ShinRa was doing in the end. If he were to learn the truth, I think society would eventually welcome him back in. Besides, it was HIM who was anti-social, most people couldn't wait to meet him.
If they ever do a true sequel to Final Fantasy 7 (DoC does not count) there needs to be a scene where Sephiroth meets Lucrecia. For good or ill I'd love to see his reaction to meeting his true mother and if it would reignite the humanity he once possessed.
+ArtemioM05 OMG, I'm so happy someone else thinks that too! I honestly feel that a true sequel to FF7 would involve a Sephiroth redemption arc. No matter how many times Cloud defeats him, he';ll keep coming back, which only states that only Sephiroth can stop himself. Sephiroth is really the Darth Vader in this franchise. His story isn't complete until he comes to full circle. Not to mention, Lucrecia will remain in that crystal for all eternity so long as Sephiroth remains the villain he is today.
+dantespimp It'd be interesting, and I'd be for a redemption story. There are two problems that such a story presents though. The first being the more heinous the villain the more disingenuous a redemption may appear. And Sephiroth has more than his fair share of atrocities under his belt. The second, considering how much of an evil force that Sephiroth is presented as, it would be difficult to find a new villain that could realistically take his place as both a credible and a greater threat. Just take a look at Genesis and DEEPGROUND to get your eyes rolling. So if Square Enix was to go the Darth Vader route it must be done with incredible care and consideration. I don't know if they have it in them anymore to craft quality writing because such an arc would definitely require them to bust out their A-game.
ArtemioM05 I'm not sure if Sephiroth is beyond redemption due to his actions. Darth Vader committed a few heinous acts of his own, from choking people to death to torturing Leia. And Game of Thrones excels at showing people that even a terrible character or action can be redeemable. We also have to consider WHY Sephiroth did what he did before we can consider him too far gone. Sephiroth, unlike a villain like Kefka (who lacks any sense of morals), isn't pure evil. Sure, we can point to the Nibelheim event and Aerith's death. But the former was the result of lies and emotions and the latter was driven by a provocative goal to become a God. But WHY did Sephiroth want to become a God to begin with? In the original game, Sephiroth tells Cloud and the party that everyone will be a part of him. He never says his intent is to kill everyone. Sephiroth suffers from a God complex and, like any cult leader, believes he's doing the universe a favor by making everyone a part of him. But WHY does Sephiroth want to be a God? Simple: because only God can be loved by the planet/universe. Sephiroth lacked love and connection growing up. He'd been abandoned his whole life. Lucrecia abandoned him by choosing to isolate herself in a cave than fighting to get back her son. Gast - the only man Sephiroth connected to as a child - abandoned him and started his own family elsewhere. And Genesis and Angeal - the only two people he connected with - abandoned him when they defected. When the events of Nibelheim happen, they happen in a time when two of his best friends ditched him. One even acted like a douche (calling him the 'perfect monster'). The only thing that promised Sephiroth an eternal love and 'the world' turned out to be a prehistoric alien. :P So, it's not like Sephiroth came out of the basement with a desire to kill the village. What he tried to kill that day was years of pent of rage and lies. I bring this up because Sephiroth's actions are all driven by his desire to BELONG and feel loved. Very much like Darth Vader. Neither character woke up one day and became a Kefka or a Joker (both who embody chaos and too far gone to be redeemed). Even as Vader and Sephiroth convert to the 'dark side'. they are still driven by their principals. Both obviously have an insane amount of power within themselves, and yet, they restraint themselves in order to give Luke or Cloud a chance to prove themselves. Hell, Sephiroth flatly offers the fate of the Planet over to Cloud prior to their battle in advent children. True evil doesn't wait for anyone. Just ask Jason or Michael. O_O For those arguing 'BUT HE KILLED AERITH'! Again, you have to consider the way Sephiroth thinks. He doesn't perceive 'death' as an absolute, but a new cycle of life. In his mind, Aerith will soon become a part of him once all of the Planet's energy force is absorbed into him. She will be reborn as a part of him. What he kills at the Forgotten City is merely Aerith's temporary vessel (same with everyone else). It's that God Complex that keeps Sephiroth trekking. Since he was deprived of love and connection, he's forcing a connection to happen on a universal level - even if it requires mass genocide. So no, I wouldn't call Sephiroth way beyond redemption. His actions, as twisted as they may seem, are actually driven by pure thoughts (love and belonging). He's just been misguided soul his whole life. Even more, the fandom continues to debate whether it's Sephiroth pulling Jenova's strings or JENOVA pulling his strings. But you're right about the second reason. Here I definitely agree with you. As much as I believe Sephiroth's story demands a redemption arc, I don't think SquareEnix has it in them to do it either. They've come up with some of the most bogus convoluted stories lately (Third Birthday, anyone? :/) that I doubt they'd come up with a sequel that'll do Sephiroth and FF7 justice. I also agree that in order for Sephiroth to move onto the redemption arc, an exemplary villain must take his place. And as you said, SquareEnix has only pooped out terrible substitutions (Genesis and Weiss). The issue I see happening, though, is that they keep coming up with Sephiroth-wannabes. On the one hand we have Gary-Sue (cough Genesis) who is a hand-me-down rip-off of Sephiroth - right down to the one-wing motif. And on the other hand, you have there-'s-jizz-on-my-hair Weiss who attempts to one-up Sephiroth by fighting with TWO katana and showing more chest action. SquareEnix needs to come up with a fresh villain that'll contrast Sephiroth. I also believe this villain should be connected to Sephiroth since it'll be like passing the torch. My money is on Sephiroth's mentor. SOMEONE had to have trained Sephiroth with that blade. And SOMEONE had to have taught Sephiroth the importance of power and beating things to a pulp.
+dantespimp Honestly, if it were any villain to take up the torch I'd prefer it to be either Jenova or Hojo as they seem the most fitting in the grand scheme of things. Part of the reasons new villains fail to impress is because in the end they are just some random asshole that showed up late to the party and have no real connection to anything, or if they do, it's because the writers completely contorted the story to rationalize the characters' place in the lore. I always saw Jenova as having enormous potential but I respect that they prefer to keep her Sauron-esk in the sense that she is more of a presence than a character with a mind too alien *heh* for any character to understand. And Hojo would seem most appropriate as he is the catalyst for all the bad shit that goes down. His unspoken desire to create a god and his history with Sephiroth would have made a nice spring board for future conflict. But sadly he kicked the bucket and that Data-Hojo bullshit nearly ruined the character for me. Which is a shame because in hindsight he could have easily become the Kefka of Final Fantasy 7. The funny thing with Weiss and the rest of the Tsviets is that if they had been rewritten to be merely other prominent members of SOLDIER that were part of whichever sub branch of the Jenova project that went rogue after Shinra collasped and took a chunk of the army with them, I would have had so much less of a problem with them as a whole. Not a worthy successor, but a worthy compliment to whatever Big Bad they chose to go with. Like the Organization XIII of Final Fantasy 7. As for Genesis, I'll be generous when I say the impression I got was that Sephiroth got his skills by constantly sparring against Angeal and Genesis alongside standard training. While I genuinely liked Angeal, Genesis...Ueugh... I kind of wish the compilation as it is didn't exist. I'd would have rather they had taken Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus sifted the crap from the gold and made a cohesive sequel from that.
ArtemioM05 "I kind of wish the compilation as it is didn't exist." I feel the same way too. I'll be honest: the moment they introduced Genesis and Angeal they destroyed what made Sephiroth so unique. Suddenly EVERYONE was a project of Jenova and EVERYONE sported wings and EVERYONE was super powerful and EVERYONE had a depressing past. The other issue is how they totally redid the Zack death scene in favor of a Hollywood-cliche ending. It was all fanservice and really screwed up the reason why Cloud suffered a mental breakdown in the first place. In fact, under this new version, it's ZACK'S fault that Cloud underwent a split personality issue. In the original ending, Cloud never got the chance to hear Zack's final words and, thus, never got closure. So it was easy to understand why he was overwhelmed by guilt and why he chose to embody Zack's personality. It was a way to deny what had happened. But in the Crisis Core version, it's Zack, himself, who unintentionally plants the idea in Cloud's head. Zack's whole 'legacy' talk kinda imposes on a mentally-fragile boy who couldn't think straight and was already emotionally overwhelmed. It's not like Cloud could reject the wishes of his dying friend either, even if he was of sound mind. But the worse implications made with this Zack-death version is how it forever destroys Cloud's sense of identity. Even after he regains 'himself', he will always be under Zack's shadow. He will always live for his dead friend than live for himself. There are so many issues I have with the Compilation. Sadly, with the new flux of FF gamers being introduced to the FF7 franchise through the Compilation, no one bothers to question it. They assume Crisis Core is the best thing that ever happened, even when it really screwed up certain plots and characters in favor of introducing or focusing on others. Moving on from this, Sephiroth didn't learn his technique from sparring with Angeal or Genesis. Sephiroth was already an accomplished warrior. It was why Genesis wanted to meet him. I believe it's mention in Crisis Core that he offered Sephiroth a Banora beverage (or an apple) during their first meeting. So Sephiroth already master his swordsmanship way before Angeal and Genesis entered the picture. It was why Genesis was eager to one-up Sephiroth and claim his glory. I still think Sephiroth's mentor could play a part in a possible sequel. That mentor could very well be the equivalent of Star War's Emperor. The reason I like the idea is because a) Dirge really fucked up with Dr. Hojo and has made it impossible to reintroduce him back into the fold and b) in order for a redemption arc to happen, Sephiroth must return to his roots and the source of his issues. Either way, I believe that if a new villain is to be introduced and replace Sephiroth, it has to connect with him. It'll up the stakes higher and make gamers feel a more intrigued with this villain (much like Kylo of the new SW is related to Darth Vader). Dr. Hojo has always been played too cartoonish. Whereas Kefka had many charms, Dr. Hojo is a one-note pony that lacks depth or traits that set him apart from the mad-scientist cliche. They definitely would need to revamp his character to make him take the spotlight. As for Genesis and Weiss, they were ho-hum characters we cared little for. That had a lot to do with SquareEnix just shoving them in our faces without an attempt to make us empathize with them (which is something Sephiroth achieved before his descent). All that aside, it definitely would be possible to redeem Sephiroth. But like you mentioned last time, SquareEnix has to step up their A-game. We'll have to see how they handle the remake to determine whether they can flesh out characters and not just rely on flash CGI scenes or stylish haircuts or Jpop soundtracks.
Honestly, I really hated the fact that Zack didn't reach out to Sephiroth and properly befriended him. You can always feel there's a wall between them whenever they interacted.
One of the things I enjoyed about Crisis Core was getting a glimpse at Sephiroth before his descent into madness. Seeing him as he was makes his fall from grace that much more tragic.
Well, how would you feel after going through all that? Being lied to, being used as an experiment, having your only two friends abbandon you and then die, then finding that you aren't even human at all...?
I mean... At this point I'm pretty sure there are two writers. One for gackt and Angeal and another for sephiroth and Zack. One had normal human interaction and the other just plain only read drama in his life. It can't be otherwise to see such a good scene and right after having genesis loveless symbolism smash into your skull.
Sephiroth is one slick homie, “I heard you were in the area” he came to tell Zack “make sure Aerith is okay”. My boy valued friendship DEEP. “Fuck this mission, go make sure your girls good”.
"Take care."
That was probably the most friendly sentence he's ever said.
Followed by: "We'll meet again soon"
to me it seems so out of place
I miss soft, gentle and happy Sephiroth. He was bound to find out the truth of his origin and it ripped him apart, but... beforehand he looked so happy and full of pride.
You realize how tragic his character is after playing this
Ikr? CC Seph was a utter gem & boy do I miss him. Especially now.
I think if angeal was still alive he could have helped sepiroth.
This is why Sephiroth is best boi!! Too bad he gone insane finding out his past.
You either die a hero (Zack) or live long enough to see yourself become a villain (Sephiroth)
Exactly.
Ah a Two Face quote. Even though Two Face is a Batman villain, and Sephiroth was played by Superman himself.

i doubt it i mean i doubt that Zack could be his friend - all he did just insulted Sephiroth for his origin, poor Seph

I think the fact he was such a great hero makes him better as a villian because of the contrast

😭
This side has only been amplified by Crisis Core's storyline but it's pretty obvious in the game too, on Cloud's memories you can see how chill and cool he was. That is why i belive he's so well written and introduced in all the games: When the kindest, most human of us all fall they become the worst demons.
***** Yeah, FFVII reality is pretty grim overall.
Mhm. Many religious stories even have it that Lucifer was the one closest to god, and then he fell. It doesn't surprise the idea that the kindest of people can become the cruelest of demons when their ideals and hopes have been shattered.

That is awesome! I think it's epic that he plays both one of the world's greatest villain characters and one of the world's most iconic heroes too.
Out of all the characters in FF7, Sephiroth had the most tragic story of them all. When you think about it, Final Fantasy 7 is the aftermath of the 3 friends who learned the truth of their origins. One died, the other fell to insanity, and the other found the Gift of the Goddess.
Loveless
Genesis is still alive though... He is in the secret ending of Dirge of Cerberus, so.we might get a sequel where he's the main villain again

He also took away the dead Omega impling he has further plans with it.

that's why I luv crisis core, in original ff7 it just made him look cold before he went crazy, but here they make him much human character, making his descent into madness they much more tragic
Of course he seemed cold. Remember, Cloud was a Shinra grunt at the time.
When they went to nebelhiem he was already suspicious. Well that's what it seemed like.
And he's prettier than most women
Sephiroth before he went batshit was such a good hero, I'm pretty sure everyone who has seen him when playing the game loved him
And then when he became a villain, the difference between him as a hero and now is so vast and striking that he's also one of the best villains in fiction imo
Sephiroth's just great
And when he talks of never having a family, and he tries to give his blood to Genesis, he intends to let go of Angeal, he was once so caring!
If he'd had a proper upbringing maybe he would've never snapped
...Didn’t she try to kill herself which was why you find her in crystal?
He needed someone who understood him and treated him equally and not those who used him.
All Sephiroth ever wanted was a family. Somewhere to belong. But good god maybe Lucretia ain't the best option. 😅
I mean, as a biologist myself, HELLO SHE INJECTED HER UNBORN CHILD WITH UNIDENTIFIED ALIEN CELLS?

Poor guy.
Sephiroth cares. Then in Nibelheim Sephiroth no longer gave a shit about anyone or anything.
stevieFFmaster why on earth he should? - its not like one single someone ever gives shit about him
Zack, Angeal and Genesis did but they're all dead. Aside from Genesis who somehow returns at the end of Dirge of Cerberus.
How to make sephiroth remain the good guy
1. NEVER TAKE HIM TO NIBELHEIM OR HE'LL GO CRAZY ABOUT HIS MOMMY.
2. Never say/or talk about Jenova front of him even behind his back.
I fucking hate Hojo. I felt sorry for Genesis.
Kylo Ren Most of it Is Hollender and Hojo's fault, if they treated there sons like human beings and told them truth then crap wouldn't had hit the fan but nope. they were just Science project to those dead beats. 😞
3. Destroy all the files, notes, and data containing details on his creation.
Honestly, Hojo is the real villain of FFVII. While Jenova may be the origin of the conflict, Hojo is the one that facilitated its return, and completely willingly.
Or Shinra could have not manipulated and lied to him.
This is an example why I blame Hojo, Jenova, and Shinra. This here is who Sephiroth really is, without an evil alien speaking in his head.

@@shooshooshooshooshooter Hey now it's been twelve :D
Well, he did actually take his time to try and form a bond with Zack, which I find very adorable. Sephiroth wanted to be closer to Zack and become his friend.
The subtlety to their relationship, Seph’s understanding to Zack’s need to be in Migar. The two would’ve been besties both in & out of work, if not for Sephiroth misunderstanding his past.
The fate of a SOLDIER is always a sad one.
Sephiroth has dry ass humor: Confirmed
That was the best Sephiroth moment ever. =D
Wow. Seeing how Sephiroth used to be is just heartbreaking.
See this. This is what I want to see in the Remake. This bond is long dead and buried and can never be back but I'd appreciate a subtle nod to the short lived friendship that did exist once if and when Zack and Sephiroth meet each other in the remake.
Zack is so adorkable. And no I did not misspell adorable.

It will. Your wish will come true...
The First Soldier is coming
playing as Sephiroth would completely kill off the character's mystery side and charisma, although it would be interesting in gameplay. But I'm only talking about the Crisis Core period and before, and that's only my opinion.
apparently enix said if we were to play as sephiroth, the game would be too easy bc he would easily kill anyone.
It is really sad seing a good non insane sephiroth, he even has friends that care about him

Aww Sephiroth is such a nice guy! If only he hadn’t learnt the truth about Jenova...
Poor Seph. Love him so much, so misunderstood. Poor poor guy. I love him!
+Fallon Jeffers Hate him. Killed one of my favourite characters.
dentedsky Aerith is my favorite too :) adore her. But Sephiroth is not to blame, to me.
So yeah. Dr. Gast is the one I hate. e_e
Gast was the one person Sephiroth loved and trusted
Sephiroth is much cooler as a hero than a villain. In my opinion.
the reason why sephiroth is so great. he was a good guy once. he went crazy later. but did he really go crazy? he was doing what he thought was right. in his eyes he was a hero.
I can see why people like Kefka, but this game made Sephiroth probably my favorite fictional character of all time
Of course Sephiroth is not anti-social. His mentality is really good. He was sympathetic and everything good. Just the knowledge of Jenova gave him the messiah complex. Those who hate Sephiroth they never even try to understand what a cruel tragedy he has had.
I agree.
I see you replying anyone's comment on Sephiroth. You're a sephiroth fan or hater?
Farhin Badhon Why do you ask?
No special reason. just askin.
Farhin Badhon Okay
"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain"
Imagine an alternate universe where sephiroth never turned to darkness and instead fought against Jenova.
He would be a badass hero instead of a villain
so sad to know that it was like this before, and then ... you know
Bruh when Sephiroth turned bad it blew me the fuck away.
And I am not able to hate Sephiroth... not really.
Crisis Core made me feel bad for Sephiroth. :(
Sephiroth and Zack's friendship is one of the sweetest things about Crisis Core. X3 This scene, and chapter 4 as a whole, are my favorite parts.
Sephiroth's thoughts as he watches Zack walk away:
'Nice ass...'
Genesis, EAT THE GODDAMN APPLE ALREADY!
Seriously how long has he been carrying that thing around?
Who knows? It’s probably just a rotted as his body is by now.
I'm going to miss George Newbern as Sephiroth....
He is the best Sephiroth...
He sounds so chill here... it's tragic to see what truth finally made him
That grin when he said permission to return granted haha
He did all kinds of bad shit tf
@@Killer_Kool7 Yes and in no way am I ignoring that but as Zack even said, he wasn't the same person he once knew.
People may not like the idea, but I believe Sephiroth deserves redemption by the time the Compilation of FFVII ends. In fact, that's how it should end. Genesis and Sephiroth standing together redeemed as Zack and Angeal watch from the Lifestream.
CrystalLaserVids that would be nice.

For those arguing 'BUT HE KILLED AERITH'!
ArtemioM05 "I kind of wish the compilation as it is didn't exist."
I feel the same way too.
Good Sephiroth is just George Newbern playing Superman.
Honestly, I really hated the fact that Zack didn't reach out to Sephiroth and properly befriended him. You can always feel there's a wall between them whenever they interacted.
sephiroth, one of the most awesome fallen heroes ever.
Non-antagonist Sephiroth is best Sephiroth
Awe i love Sephiroth so much he one of my fav characters. I love cloud yuffie tifa aerith leon & others
I just want to give Sephy a good life. Damn
SAME :((
One of the things I enjoyed about Crisis Core was getting a glimpse at Sephiroth before his descent into madness. Seeing him as he was makes his fall from grace that much more tragic.
They should have been there for Sephiroth. It's so tragic that Angeal died, or I think they would have been able to come together.
Sephiroth as a good guy makes my heart skip beats. And seeing Zack at all makes me feel like I'm in heaven with him.
Does anyone else hear Superman's voice in Sephiroth?
When Sephirtoh was a good guy
Kinda crazy how quick he turns into a psycho.
Sometimes I wish Sephiroth did not turn evil.
Awww Sephiroth :3
I really hope someday sephiroth finds out the actual truth about his real mother, and not jenova.
Jenova mother sephiroth is a little better.
@@OtaniNoAsagi The one that killed off almost an entire race of people and wants to take over the lifestream and destroy the planet is better???
1:28 this is the nicest thing i could hear from him.
@VoidOfShadows It breaks my heart to see him so care free from knowledge. And when he smiles at the image of Zack walking off it makes things worse.
So you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.
Sephiroth is gorgeous!!!
aww, he really does care =} (sephy is my favorite so it really kinda warms my heart that he has a sense of humor =) )
Should be titled Sephiroth has better social skills than Zack
This breaks my heart
Sephiroth seems to love sunsets near the sea. (like in the flashback with Angeal and Genesis)
note this is before he went mad
Nolan Snape rip
Sephiroth is one slick homie, “I heard you were in the area” he came to tell Zack “make sure Aerith is okay”. My boy valued friendship DEEP. “Fuck this mission, go make sure your girls good”.
