We like both - but we LOVE Aperol. One thing - when I visit family in Italia, they make their cocktails with blood orange soda, and it becomes EXQUISITE. Especially on a hot day when you're sitting outside after dinner... The bitterness of the Aperol sets off the San Pellegrino soooo well.
@@liberandco You should try it! Again, thanks for this video - I actually just renewed our Aperol supply this morning (it's only in the 80s here in NE Ohio, but for us that's a sauna LOL). Blood Orange soda instead of soda water is awesome - BUT... if you want something a bit less sweet, try Pomegranate or Cranberry juice. Aperol is FUN to experiment with.
Campari and I go way back, my favorite since the mid 80s. I grew up in Germany, where Italians have restaurants in every town. Love that bitter taste of Campari! When I was younger, I would drink it with orange juice. Now I prefer it with soda (not that I drink it that often).
I just tried my first Negroni that my bartender friend made for me. He has a big fat book about the history of various cocktails and their ingredients. Coincidentally my sister recently moved to Italy. She suggested I try the Campari Spritz and the Aperol Spritz, and then let her know what I think. But this video was a great introduction!
The history of cocktails can be very interesting! Lots of unique stories, though the older the cocktail, the more murky the history tends to be. Hope your sister likes Italy! Both of those Spritz's are super refreshing and tasty. Definitely worth trying. Thanks for the kind words!!
Watching this video with a glass of Campari Spritz and enjoying the strength and the bitterness! 🙌 I find it's just a more masculine, serious version of "the spritz" than then the low alcohol, sweet Aperol version
Hi, thanks for the good informative video, just some friendly advice: I know it's en vogue in vlogs to leave some "bloopers" in the video, but honestly, unless those cutaways are in any form entertaining, they become rather annoying to watch (like ones voice cracking due to a dry throat. who cares.), leave only those in that are really funny or bring additional interesting info
Wow. Great content, lighting, editing, and b- roll. One suggestion, for what it's worth. The pacing seems slow. Maybe refine the content, or at least edit it faster (or ramp to 105+%) You're doing great! Maybe speak some more from your diaphragm. I used to constantly get vocal fry when presenting/speaking. I think getting more out of your voice will help engagement! Cheers! 🍻
I'm either going to try an aperol campari or get a bottle of Gran Classico. I'm a vegan which means Campari sadly isn't an option, so I've never been able to try a Negroni
You can definitely give Aperol a go. I never realized that Campari was not vegan. I guess they may use some animal gelatin at some point in the production process?
@@liberandco I believe its animal gelatine in the refining process plus the carmine they use to colour it. I only found out a few weeks ago when I wanted to give making Negronis a go.
thank you for this I’ll try Gran Classico. Thank you for letting us know that the others naturally flavored with Carmine as well. I look forward to trying them I’m very allergic to Campari & Aperol & they’re so tasty.
We would try ¼ oz of Campari and ½ oz of orange liqueur as a substitute for 1 oz of Aperol. Campari brings substantially more bitterness than Aperol, and we find Aperol to bring a decidedly more orange-forward profile than Campari. We think this 2:1 orange liqueur:Campari blend could do the trick in a pinch at a slightly reduced total volume of ¾ oz. Let us know how it turns out!
@@liberandco Thank you so much. I've never had either before; I was just at the liquor store, and they were similar enough in price that I bought the Campari because I figured it would go a lot farther. 😂 I'll try using it with Triple Sec.
“Select” is another great option for Spritz and my personal favorite. I feel like it has more bitter/sweet balance than both Campari and Aperol. Spritz with Select is 99% of the times found in Venice, or places that want to offer something uniquely Venetian anywhere else.
I gave you a thumbs up for the breakdown on the Campari and Aperol but you lost me with the 2 cocktails you showcased?? You would have been solid doing an Campari/Aperol gin and tonic or a Negroni cocktail, but Cheers🥃🙏
I'm talking about gentian root, which is often found in bitter liqueurs. Punch has a good article on it if interested! punchdrink.com/articles/guide-bitter-gentian-liqueur-suze-salers-aperitif/
The type you use for making old fashioned and such. Like angostura and peychauds have no sugar.. The kind you can drink straight like campari, Montenegro, meletti, etc... No they all have sugar to balance the bitterness.
We don't know of any bitters without sugar, although we haven't done an extensive search. Angostura lists sugar in their ingredients, and we know they have it, and we're pretty sure Peychaud's does as well. Manufacturers add sugar to help balance the flavor profile of their products. Without a small measure, the bitters would be super astringent and not nearly as well-rounded! Cheers, Chris
Ha ha...I once visited a friend while living in Vienna. She was from Vorarlberg and was also living in Vienna at the time. She poured me enormous wine glass full of Aperol and was looking forward to tasting it, but found when I did, I found it absolutely awful and undrinkable! My friend kept saying, do you like it! Do you like it and smiling and I was like, umm it´s different than what I expected...She said, it´s really nice isn´t it! We were going to go out, but she was waiting for me to finish it, but I was taking tiny sips and talking and hoping she would not say anything, but she said, you´re not drinking it, finish it so I can give you some more! OMG I said nothing and kept taking the tiniest sips until finally she said, okay you don´t have to drink it, let´s go...phew! @@liberandco
Aperol is too expensive, at least where I live. You can buy a bottle of Campari for almost the same price, and it has over twice the strength and alcohol content. I like Aperol, but Im not going to pay over $25 US for barely enough alcohol to get drunk.
I like the fact you don't take it too serious even if you giving a master class on Campari. Bravo teacher!
Thank you! We think learning about cocktails should always be fun.

Nice! You were on the Campari train early then if you grew up in Germany. A wonderful liqueur. Campari and soda is a classic 👍
@@liberandco For sure! I was very disappointed, when I found out, that not every restaurant has Campari on their menu here in the U.S.
Garibaldi then with orangr juice.

Great video! I appreciate that you're to the point & without too much flourish (maybe like Campari?)
Thanks so much, Reggie, glad you enjoyed the video!
I like to learn in the videos I watch so more bar knowledge or cocktail advice, etc is welcome.
Awesome, good to know! We'll be shooting another advice style video this week. Thanks for the feedback!
Cappelletti is one of my favorites!
It's delicious!

I don’t drink and found this informative. Cool! 😊
I remember an old Campari and lemonade ad in England in the 70's. "Cor Blimey mate! Where you been?"
"Cor Blimey" lol, that's pretty darn English! Campari lemonade is a great match, though, quite tasty.
Campari Spritz is not so bitter as described. It's definitely stronger. I love it!
That other bottle you have in the background Cappelletti is really good I did a blind tasting at a party 🎉 and people really love it specially girls 🥰
Yes, Cappelletti is delicious and a real crowd pleaser!
Nice explanation 👍🙃
Thanks! 😃
Great video. Can you substitute Campari with Amari?
Very informative!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoy it!
Campari and orange juice, tall glass, rocks. My go to drink.
Oh, yeah, that's a classic! So tasty 😋
Love the Great video--more about these 2 great flavors! I use Aperol over sliced strawberries, add some lime juice and cane sugar--delicious!
That sounds really good!
My favourite is Bitterol
- bought from Lidl!
Nice, we need to try that one!
Love the video, love Liber Syrups!
That's a double thank you!
Why would you refer to ANY Italian liqueur as "Presbyterian?" I will call a priest and exorcise any and all Calvinist tendencies in that cocktail.
😂 The Calvinist tendencies run deep in that cocktail.
