I do an orange negroni, but I toss all the standard ratios out the window, especially since I'm not a big fan of sweet vermouth, though I miss it if it's not in there at all: 1 oz. dry gin 1 oz Solerno blood orange liqueur 3/4 oz. Campari 1/4 oz. sweet vermouth Spritz of orange tincture I am also kind of lazy and don't bother to chill/dilute the cocktail by stirring with ice so I also add a splash of water in the glass when I build it.
There's something about the simplicity and just the right amount of bitterness in making an equal parts Negroni that just hits the spot on a Friday afternoon to start the weekend 🤩 Cheers, Kevo! 🔥
🥃 Kevin! Wonderful job, as always. I can’t imagine a more complete history of my favorite cocktail. Cheers to the entire Cocktail Time crew! Keep up the great work. Hats off to Saso & Rob
Wonderful overview of the Negroni and thank you for making it more understood and accessible (also so I can enjoy any time)! This is so charming and you are utterly charming and refreshing, I feel whisked back in time, this is so delightful and you and your channel and work seem so refined, so grateful to have discovered you!
🥃a Negroni is not only one of my favorite cocktails, it's what inspired me to make slight variations to what I already like. I have a slew of Negronis I go to, but also whenever I want to experiment, an equal parts cocktail is my first attempt every time. Mixing 2-4 ingredients that way is great to find out what balances with what, and what to increase/decrease to get there. I'm sure I've just reinvented the wheel lots of times, but I still discovered those portions organically.
Funny how you start cocktail ideas with equal parts, and then adapt. I think I should try it too. So far, I have noticed that I go for half or double. There is something obsessive about having a well-proportionned recipe.
🥃 Mi-To was the first cocktail I had beyond mixed drinks (or drinking neat). I now have them much less frequently than in the past, but they'll always hold a special place. And my favourite variation is the Left Hand: 1½ bourbon, ¾ Campari, ¾ Vermouth, 2 dashes cocoa bitters, 2 drops saline.
just tried this on impulse after reading your comment. weirdly good! found myself wanting to add another dash of the bitters and rounding the bourbon up to 2 after making. could be my choice of bourbon though! thanks for this, great call
Thank you. Very good video. I started mixing Negronis for my father and his friends when I was around 13. A Mad Men scene! I remember adding actual orange juice, not just peel. Move forwards 45 years. I love Negroni. Sometimes I still add a few drops of orange juice for nostalgia. Gin has become so sophisticated nowadays, but my opinion is that any reasonable not too junipery gin will work. I keep my high end gins for Martinis and G&Ts.
No emojis on the laptop! Great video! When I want it lighter I make something like the americano but with bitter lemon instead of soda water, orange twist for garnish.
Being Italian, I can't help but love the Negroni! :D I tried it in an astounding number of variations, some great, some... less than stellar, but the original 1:1:1 remains my favorite!
🥃 cheers my friend! My favorite Negroni specs to date I found in the Death and Co cocktail book. 1.5 oz gin 1 oz Compari 1 oz vermouth blend. Equal parts sweet vermouth and punt e mes Have a wonderful weekend!
Just tried your specs, they are excellent! More balanced than the original for me, will definitely use those going forward. The other version I love was with italicus found on an educated barfly video, 1 gin, 3/4 campari, 3/4 vermouth, 1/4 italicus. Delish also.
It was the summer of 2009, Zig Zag Cafe just off Pike Place Market in Downtown Seattle. A very hot chic orders us both Negroni. Orange slices garnish the rim of the glass. Sweeter than I prefer, yet complex and herbal. Her pretty brown eyes twinkling in the low light. I haven't ordered it since.
🥃love all things Negroni, boulevardier, Oaxacan, are two of my favorite variations. I’ve heard good things about Kingston Negronis, but haven’t tried on yet.
Cheers Kevin! I'm a long time fan of your channel. I especially love that you have these history driven videos about the classics to balance out those mind bending, revolutionary technique heavy and multi-ingredient out of this world concoctions. Those combined with the style of your set and gear and also remarkable editing, really make your videos incredibly pleasant to watch. So thanks to you and the whole Cocktail Time crew 🥃 In this video you only used Campari as the bitter element, and I understand that completely. Still, what other bitter aperitivos would you recommend trying? I personally love adding some Fernet in my Negronis, sometimes even 50/50 with the Campari (which makes it almost a Hanky Panky)
Glad you like it! Of course, you can change its bitter part for another amaro or bitter. That's the best part of it when creating and twisting drinks. The idea of splitting campari and fernet is actually really good! Nonino, amaro Montenegro, and Averna are other options too. Cheers!
🥃 i have started doing a variation that's 1 part gin, 1 part set vermouth, 1/2 part campari, and 1/2 part aperol. I still garnish with a lemon peel expressed over it, just my preference though.
It's definitely a great cocktail..I've played around with different vermouth, til I found what I liked. Played around with campari ratios including aperol ....tweek to taste.
I'm not really much of a gin fan, excluding my college days of experimenting with too many Tom Collins, but once I saw the pretty red color and vibrant orange peel of my first enticing Negroni, I had to give it a try. But again, I'm not a gin fan, so I went with the Boulevardier as I'm a big bourbon fan. I started at first with Aperol instead of Campari, because with my budget starting out, Aperol was more affordable, and I would say is a great alternative for those who find Campari too intense. You still get a bittersweet, citrus flavor from Aperol, without the biting bitterness from Campari. But I moved on to Campari and now the Boulevardier, a Negroni variation, is my #1 favorite cocktail. I've also tried it with dark rum and absolutely recommend others try that variation as well.
It seems kinda trashy but I like making an Americano but with beer instead of the soda. Super refreshing and gives more flavor than typical soda, plus it gives you an additional layer of optionality in terms of which beer to pair. Really fun spin on the negroni line of cocktails
I've just made the cocktail time negroni using the exact spirits and recipe...VERY good indeed! I would say using the same measurements but with cocchi americano and aviation gin got me very close too :) Thanks for a top recipe! Always thought the negroni was unbalanced (far too campari heavy)

With dry vermouth, because the Cardinale is better 😂
🥃🥃🥃 I will definitely try your version.

What is your recipe for saline solution?
🥃Cheers! And in remembrance of Anthony Bourdain his favorite cocktail.
There's something about the simplicity and just the right amount of bitterness in making an equal parts Negroni that just hits the spot on a Friday afternoon to start the weekend 🤩 Cheers, Kevo! 🔥
And also on a Monday morning to start the week.
I really appreciate the length of these videos. You guys show that great content doesn't need to be more than 10 minutes long!
🥃 Kevin!
Wonderful job, as always. I can’t imagine a more complete history of my favorite cocktail.

🥃🥃I'll often double the gin, 2:1:1 ratio. I've done the saline as well, it's nice to mist the rim of the glass with it.
Cheers!

1.5 oz gin
1 oz Compari
1 oz vermouth blend. Equal parts sweet vermouth and punt e mes
Have a wonderful weekend!
I've read that too ! Haven't had the occasion to try it though but I think it could be more balanced and less sweet than the equal part version
Campari,cremovo,ice,San Pellegrino carbonated water,lime slice!
🥃 Thanks, I got learn some about my favorite cocktail!
Amazing pronunciation of the italian words, Bravo!
Just Campari and soda has always been a favourite of mine.

🥃 Excellent history and alterations to the classic Negroni!
I use either lemon or orange as garnish depending on the gin used

🍸 fine as usual ... Perfect!
@KevinKos I made a Negroni based on your specs, all I can say is 👌🏽 such a nice balance.

🥃 one of my favourite cocktails. Although, I use Drumshanbo for the gin. It brings a pleasant spice to the srink
It's definitely a great cocktail..I've played around with different vermouth, til I found what I liked. Played around with campari ratios including aperol ....tweek to taste.
🥃 Negroni is always a good choice. Thanks for this episode!

Interesting ratio. I’m a 2:1:1 fan.
Great video, thanks 🥃
🥃 I’m not a negroni fan myself but the history is fascinating!
Delicious video 🥃

🥃 great video
🥃 An interesting and informative video, thanks
🥃absolutely one of my favorites
🥃 Love it!
What? No mention of the bar Gia Cosa on via Tournabuoni in Firenze? I like my Negroni served up sometimes for a change of pace.
🥃A drink so simple but yet so complex in its flavours
Definitelly the #1 coocktail 🥃
🥃 amazing cocktails!
It seems kinda trashy but I like making an Americano but with beer instead of the soda. Super refreshing and gives more flavor than typical soda, plus it gives you an additional layer of optionality in terms of which beer to pair. Really fun spin on the negroni line of cocktails
I could imagine a nice Italian pilsner would work wonderfully.
I like to use Peroni for this one. Cheers!
🥃Love this cocktail and LOVE that family tree poster. Where do we get that?
I've just made the cocktail time negroni using the exact spirits and recipe...VERY good indeed!
I would say using the same measurements but with cocchi americano and aviation gin got me very close too :)
Thanks for a top recipe! Always thought the negroni was unbalanced (far too campari heavy)
Awesome! Thank you for trying it out! Cheers!

This guy rules
🥃 i love Campari and soda on a hot day❤️
always to the end. 👍
What glass (brand) is used for American version?
Salute 🥃
What's wrong with grabbing the sweet vermouth from the fridge? Isn't sweet vermouth supposed to be refrigerated after it is opened? Time: 5:14 - 5:16.
Nothings wrong with that. Actually, that's the way it is supposed to be stored.
🥃 greetings from Poland
Cheers!
🥃 nice vid
🥃thx
