I just tried my first home made negroni. A little tip for other cocktail newbies like me - the orange is a game changer. If you think it's a bit to sharp/medicinal, then and a bit more orange zest. It seems to bring it all together.
Anders - the Cocchi is a game-changer! I've been trying to get into this cocktail with varied success. I've had Campari for all of them. I've tried several vermouth brands, as well as Gins. Finally got some Botanist with the other vermouths, but once I tried the Cocchi with your ratio, that did it. Really liked that version. I'm learning so much from your channel - keep it up!
When I first tried the Negroni, I could tell there were some good flavors in it - but I couldn't DRINK it! It was wayyyy too bitter for me. I just tried this version and I finally understand it! Who would've thought the bitterness could be balanced with, like, more spirits, more alcohol? It's incredible. Now if only you could get me to understand the appeal of a Martini
Anders, I wanted to let you know that you’ve single-handedly got me into cocktails. I used to be a beer-drinker, then became a wine drinker, then started watching your videos by accident recently and have been addicted since. You’re the best at what you do. I just ordered my first cocktail making kit (Boston shaker and bar spoon, mainly) so thank you 😃 PS I chose this video specifically because you introduced me to the Negroni and it’s now my favourite thing on this planet.
Making a new drink from your channel every evening is my favorite part of the day! Love your expertise and demeanor, and I can't wait to learn more (I take notes on every video). Cheers!
I know I am pretty late to this I just wanted to say that this is amazing. I am very new to the cocktail world. Still haven't tasted most of the iconic cocktails. One day a friend of mine suggested me to drink a Negroni at a local bar, so I did, and I immediately fell in love with it. I have plans to build my own home bar and I am very excited. I just wanted to thank you because your channel has been an extremely helpful and accessible way to learn more about cocktails and spirits. You have been a life saver.
Cocktails can be a memory trigger. I long to sit again at a restaurant on the Piazza Navona. To enjoy a Negroni. To engage in conversation with other diners. To appreciate the play of the setting sun on the terra-cotta pastel of the surrounding buildings.
Love all you do Anders! I’ve watched nearly every video. Would you consider doing an episode tasting different vermouths? Maybe with a follow up making a vermouth cocktail substituting different brands to analyze how the different vermouths play in the same cocktail?
Since I’m not much of a spirit drinker when I went to Italy I just drank wine, however then I learned about the Negroni in New Orleans of all places and I love it! Now when I go back to Italy I will definitely be drinking Negroni’s! Thanks for both recipes.
Love your channel! I also love Topo Chico in the Americano - the bubbles brighten the bite of the Campari. Topo Chico with a copious amount of bitters (Ango of course) and lemon is also delicious.
Love the channel. I keep finding little gems like this. I too studied in Florence with Gonzaga University almost 20 years ago! Fun channel, tips and drink ideas! Thank you!
I must tell you that since I have found you on UA-cam, I really enjoy your recipes and videos. They are entertaining, well thought out and well produced. I wish I lived close by so I could visit your bar. I don't even know you and I like you. Keep up the good work.
Anders - very nice video. I live in West Africa, so I don’t come across fancy red vermouth option that often. Americano is my favorite daytime drink at the end of a warm day. I usually add a dash of freshly squeezed orange juice and a ton of soda water in a collins glass. Makes the taste subtle while allowing you to drink a few without jeopardizing the rest of the evening 😜
When you pulled across the Botanist you pulled across my respect! This channel will blow up, I'm sure of it! Like the Negroni it has all the right ingredients.
Love it! Thanks for another great recipe...Maybe sometime you could do a little session on how to make different garnishes.Having these videos is a huge breath of fresh air during this pandemic. Many many thanks.
@@AndersErickson New sub here. Really liking the content and aesthetic! Great fun to watch and recreate at home. I second Michael's suggestion in that I think it would be very useful for us to be blessed with a proper garnish technique video. Looking forward to it. Thank you both!
I love your cocktail recipice, they are so well balanced. But the best Negroni I have had was with the addition of a little splash of Creme de Violette! It was amazing!
Just made my first Negroni last week and found it very bitter using the 1:1:1 recipe. Remembered Anders did this adjusted recipe and it's so much better! Thanks!
The ULTIMATE batch cocktail. I started batching the Negroni when I worked in Alberta. It wasn't a popular cocktail in the bar, as everyone drank Caesars. But for banquets it was THE cocktail, after one guy buys one, every table had them.
If you use the water for cocktails, its important to change the gas bottles earlier than if you use it just for water, because it wont be bubbly enough fast as most other components dont have any
Thank you Anders! You're wonderful, I just found your youtube, and just recieved a new job at an incredibly hotel being an event server! I need to know all the classic italian cocktails in DETAIL within the next couple minutes.... hours... days.... THANK YOU!!! I'm used to pubs, so no real negronis there! haha cheers!

I discovered the Americano in a ski resort in Switzerland. The bar had it on it's cocktail menu and it was built with all equal parts of Campari, sweet and dry vermouth as well as orange juice, topped with a floater of Gin.

Ah! The Negroni is a really great drink.. I usually make mine equal parts, but I love Anders' recipes, so i am going to try with his measures. Also the quality of the Vermouth makes a very big difference. Do a comparative taste test and see what i mean. Antica Formula is the best i have found so far. It is expensive though. Fortunately they do half bottles, and as I am not a bartender, and you need to use this quickly after opening, that is seriously handy!
Love a nice Negroni.Definitely one of those drinks where it takes a few sips to really get into but once you do it’s great.I sometimes split the part of Campari with Aperol, not bad.
I was happy to see that you make the Negroni with more gin -- I make what I call a "3-4-5 Negroni" -- 30ml Campari, 40ml vermouth and 50mil of Gin. Another tasty variation is to make it with barrel-aged Genever. The part with the truck in the ally really took me back -- I lived in Chicago when I was a student and (of course) my apartment was on an ally - next to a bar. Many interesting conversations overheard in that ally on summer nights when the windows were open and the bar patrons would retire to the ally to have a smoke of one sort or another.
Hey Anders! I loved the video! I've never heard of the Americano, now it's one of my favourites. Thanks for introducing me to it! Like you I LOVE Negronis and make mine the traditional way (1,1,1 of each spirit), but for days when I'm feeling like a fancy boy I'll sub out the normal Campari (sponsored video?) and put in Campari's barrel aged iteration instead. It's a Campari that has been aged in a bourbon barrel and gives the beverage a lovely, but not over powering, vanilla note. Great job as always! I'm really happy I found your channel :) Cheers from Canada eh!
I found the Negroni to be a kind of one drink thing. Drink one and you are hooked for a lifetime. I learned to make 1 to 1 to 1. Going to try this version this after noon. For the winter I like the Boulevardier, which an American invented in Paris back in the 20's.
I completely agree with the 2-1-1 Negroni and I absolutely love both Campari and Aperol Negronis. I do feel like a good ol' Juniper forward classic like Tanqueray is a great choice for a negroni.
Wonderful videos. The negroni and boulevardier are what got me into cocktails. I don’t know if this is a thing but I have made a version using light rum blanc vermouth Campari and a dash of grenadine. Skip the grenadine if you want it more bitter. This was a result of getting the ingredients for el presidente and happening to have some Campari.

2 1 1 is the way to go! I tried it for the first time today and it's nothing like the camparis I've had before. I've found that the vermouth was too dominant in the original recipe, though, rather than Campari. This recipe is rather more refreshing and has a much more interesting flavour. Man, beautiful textbook classics there. Nice work! But the idea that Aperol can be substituted in these drinks doesn't sit right with me. If Campari hasn't clicked with someone yet I usually recommend working up to these drinks with things like a Campari spritz or a Negroni Spagliato. Notwithstanding the fact that if I tried to order an Aperol negroni here in Italy I might be asked to leave the country, a 1:1 substitution would be a mistake, and result in a drink that was far too sweet. John Gertsen's recipe seems to fix this, by switching out the sweet vermouth for dry-and I'll definitely be giving it a try.
I do the 1:1:1 because I love Campari. I honestly drink just Campari and soda sometimes. Sometimes I make an Americano with dry vermouth too. I tried it in a Negroni but it was too dry. The appeal of the martini is it gets you very drunk very fast but with class.
@@blackpowder4016 I'd argue a Manhattan gets you drunk equally quickly, equally classy, but it doesn't taste like gym sock juice
Find a gin you like and work from there, extra dry with an olive works for me. It needs to be served ice cold or its rough.
Try a 50/50 martini with a dash of orange bitters, overproof gin, and blanc vermouth with a lemon twist. An old school recipe and my favorite.
