  • This has been one of my most highly requested videos and I hope it doesn't disappoint! Just as a reminder, the advice I give is based on personal experience and preferences, and is not the end all be all. But! I hope that maybe some of these things helps you in your micans journey if you've been struggling, and I promise this plant is worth it once it gets into a groove!

    I wish you could post more plant care videos. you mention really helpful things unlike a lot of other plant youtubers that seem like a broken record and mention the same repetitive tips again and again like: bright indirect light, water when first two inches are dry, it's better to underwater plants and these sort of things that we all know. I don't care if you're not speaking of a plant which is not as lush as your Micans. talking about your experiences even with a plant that is struggling at the moment can be helpful too

    I have one on my balcony and will not cut it until it hits my living room floor. I used to be cheap and would purchase cuttings and all died. I invested in two over priced plants from Etsy that died. Finally found an awesome grower. The plant was right below the pot, now it is at least 6 feet long. I also tried to make it climb, and it didn't do well at all but I also didn't use a moss pole. Nice and informative vid, and yes, they love showers. I tend to leave it outside in the rain, or fertilize it and allow it to get sun sun stress it since the colors are gorgeous.

    i have two micans, one that is in a more diffused light situation and one that has been directly in an east facing window for several months, and i literally just pulled the one that had been in the window into a shadier spot two days ago bc i wasnt enjoying the sun stressed look.
    i had definitely noticed some of that leaf damage on mine that you pointed out, and im fairly certain its not from pests, so i am glad for the showering/bathing tip.
    thanks for the video 🥰

    Wow, wow and WOW, plant video of the year goes to you!!! I have to say I have watched thousands of plant videos and found this one to be the most real, natural, genuine and informative! Ironically enough I have been searching for tips on Micans (the universe knows) as ALL 3 of mine recently turned out with black spots and turned pink, flimsy and falling off easily, I think it's from underwatering and also moved them away from the cold winter window in Boston, I am hoping to save it by chopping it, do you think even after 70% of its leaves doing this the plant still has a chance? Again, AMAZING video and wish you all the success, we hope to see more videos like this, cheers! 💦🌱💫

    Received my micans in soil, it’s roots would die. I’d prop it, put it back in soil (with drainage) it’s roots would die, on and on. Started experimenting with PON for hoyas and when my micans developed enough roots, thought, what the heck? And tried the micans in PON. Perfect combination! You are right on with that advice! Just potted up my second pot of micans in PON in self watering pot. I started using cal-mag after watching you and Alice. Love your channel, Charmaine! Hope you are having a great time with your family in US.

    The leaves definitely turn orange/red when sun stressed and is kind of cool because it reminds me of Fall but I'd personally take the lower light dark green leaves. I can tell the one I have that gets blasted by a grow light and is sun stressed isn't as healthy as the ones grown under lower light.

    Your constant NAGGING about the Micans makes me really want to focus on mine for 2023 but of course I overwatered it before the holidays so we’re not off to the best start.. I’m thinking of seeing if it will recover on its own. Usually I’d repot but she’s a pretty hardy plant and I feel like the damage is done at this point since I was away for the holidays. ANYWHO this was a super fun upload and I. Sure I’ll reference it when I grow the balls to transfer my micans to semi hydro 😂

    Sun stressed????? I've been plucking the leaves cause I thought they were weird dead 😭😭 gonna put it in a darker spot for sure...
    Glad to see someone else constantly fertilize in small amounts, no way in hell I could keep track of which one already got some
    I put most of my ppants in pure perlite with diluted fertilizer water, they seem to do much better cause I'm a bad overwaterer and they keep rotting... When I chop to make the plant fuller I can just stick it right back into it no? Since it's just perlite?

      @@SuperUsername147 That's not a hopeful thought. I guess if I get another plant, then I should go ahead and use thrip preventative starting in spring though the fall or quarantine them during that time period. Thank you for the heads up. Better planning on my part.

    • @SuperUsername147
      @SuperUsername147 Рік тому +1

      @@zandrawostel3765 I’ve heard thrips can be attracted to velvet leaf philodendron. I don’t mean to be a downer though. Keeping your plant as healthy as possible will prevent any pest infestations. Pests are attracted to the stress signals that plants send out when they aren’t receiving the care that they need. My micans tend to get thrips when I’m being more neglectful.
