    VIDEO DESCRIPTION
    2022 Yamaha R7 launch just made the Kawasaki ZX6R a more attractive purchase since the price is in the same area and ZX6R is as streetable as the R7 is being claimed to be. Having owned and ridden the 2019 Kawasaki ZX6R, I share my ZX6R experience on the streets and on the track how I think it compares to the R7
    I compare the Kawasaki ZX6R with the Yamaha R7 on price in USA, looks, sound, streetability (how comfortable it is to ride on the street as per my own experience), Power, rider aids and therefore the value for money comparison.
    The Kawasaki ZX6R has remained unchanged through the years 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. The new 2021 Yamaha R7 is also going to be the same in 2022.
    I have also shared what type of riders would be best served with the Kawasaki ZX6R as well as who does the Yamaha R7 work for.
    Surprisingly, no major media outlets has touched this subject so I'm excited to compare the Yamaha R7 with the Kawasaki ZX6R 636 to help people make up their mind and get best value for money with their next motorcycle purchase.

    Already owned a ZX6R and loved it. I have a GSXR 750 now and Iike it but rather the ZX6R better. Now I am interested in the R7, most of my riding is on the street and with the R7 I can use a lot of the bikes potential and have tons of fun. I got in more trouble with my ZX6R and GSXR 750 and was only in 1st or 2nd gear.

      I really, REALLY want an '03 ZX9R, but I'll take an '00-'02. I currently have a '21 ZX6R, and do like it, but liked my old '07 ZZR600 (remanufacturing of the '00-'02 6R), and those older Kawis share the same frame, body, and ergos. And DAMN were they ergonomic. The 9R will feel just like my old bike, but with a good bit more grunt.
      Looked into the GSX750 a few times over the year, but it just couldn't fill the niche I want.

    If you feel like the R7 doesn't have enough hp than the bike wasn't intended for you That's what Yamaha is saying. Its meant for newer riders and people trying to upgrade off a R3 that might just want something with a little more power. It wasn't made to replace the R6 or go up against a zx6R or a Suzuki gsxr or a Honda cbr 600 they all make more power the motorcycle world already knows this. The R7 will be a good everyday bike for people riding in city streets. It Makes more torque than the current r6 so riding around town in low range when you hit that throttle it will feel like its pulling hard. And it
    will be a decent track bike especially when a few years go by and you can get one used for half the price.

      There are wayyyy better bikes than R7 for everyday city riding. For everyday riding you need forgiving ergonomics, R7 does NOT offer that. R7 is ONLY for people who prioritize looks/dollar above everything else. It is NOT at all a "good everyday bike for people riding in city streets".

      @@awnis001 if you wanna be technical no true sport bike is really good for everyday riding. I been riding since 2003 a lot of different brands and they all kill my back. So for every day riding u would need a cruiser. Or a mt07 or the mt09. But back to the R7 what bike for under 10 grand brand new you can get with the same power and reliability. And please don't say aprilia because they are nowhere near as reliable as Yamaha and parts are harder to find you go to a shop everything needs to be ordered. Heck yeah !!! This Comp needed to be done ✅ Yamaha deserves a whole bunch of criticism for discontinuing the r6, and cheapened out and left us with just the r7, idk I think they tried to market to younger beginner riders being that the 600 in line 4 was sort of the starter learner bike to race on in the 90’s up to the 2000’s and beyond , but we know how that kind of turned out with inexperienced riders dying , but I really believe they shouldn’t of discontinued a legend of a bike in the r6 , yeah the r7 has a market , but don’t take away the r6 , it has a market too I was seriously considering pulling the trigger on an r6 and buying it , but they just gave my business and a lot of others to kawi’s zx6r , now I’m only left with two choices in the in line 4 cylinder 600’s the gsxr600 or the zx6r , and Kawasaki really opened my eyes really understanding what their customers want , but they also have their flaws but overall Kawasaki are a lot of bang for the buck , Yamaha prices a twin cylinder 1200 dollars less than a screaming in line 4 , which you are correct brings more fun factor for the buck , the Kawasaki zx6r and the r6 are great second bikes to learn to get up to handling a liter bike down the road if that is your goal , but the r7 is a bike if your dead set on not getting a r3 , ninja300 , ninja 400, and gsxr250. , except maybe the ninja400 but really , nobody wants to keep those bikes , they lose their fun factor fast 💨 ... , so I guess if you really liked the twin cylinder 700 , it could be a favorite forever bike , but the zx6r , IMO holds a lot more value imho ✅ thx for sharing 👍👍👍

      Hey thanks for watching and liking. I had this feeling the day they announced the R7 but nobody seemed to be talking about how that benefits the case of a ZX6R. I’ve loved the zx6r on streets and now i’m finding it a very good bike to learn riding at the track. As i start chasing laptimes, not having an auto blipper is a bit of a bummer but for the streets that’s not a showstopper. And I was surprised how comfortable the ZX6R was for street riding being a supersport. The GSXR600 is a good option too, you should actually watch another video I made comparing the 4 supersport options ( that was before Kawi announced the 2022 ZX6R for the US though). Again, thanks for watching! Ride hard, stay safe 🤟🏼

    As someone who rode 25k miles on a 2015 ZX6R 636, I sold it for a 2019 Yamaha MT07. The MT-07 is a farrr better street bike. A torquey wheelie happy engine is better 90% of time than a high revving inline 4. The 636 was gutless until about 7k rpm. Honestly, other than suspension, top speed, and track performance.. that's really the only thing the ZX6R was better at. Plus comparing two totally difference class bikes is kind of dumb. It should really be compared to bikes such as the RS660 and such.

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  3 роки тому

      My opinion is, any two bikes can be compared, cylinders and engine capacity aren't alway the consideration. As for MT07, I'm sure it's a fun bike, i prefer the XSR700 avatar of that engine. Infact, I'm actually considering the xsr for my street bike since the zx6r is fully track set up now

      To reverse your argument the only thing going for an MT07 is its ergonomics and the engine (engine is completely debatable since the 636 engine is a masterpiece)
      The 636 has a far superior chassis, suspension setup, brake setup, twice the power and acceleration.
      Did you not much go to the track with the 636? I cant even fathom how you could downgrade to a MT07 chassis if you have experienced a 600 on track.

If you want faster, better on track, better sounding and more value out of a tune, the zx6r is more than enough.

I study riders and racers, the good ones and the bad ones because even from other peoples mistakes, crashes, and failures one can learn if you evaluate and scrutinize the where they went wrong! Yes any motorcycle can be good just for riding and I'm sure for someone even the R7 will be the perfect bike. For me I was looking for more without playing the 1000cc game. To much for the street in my opinion, but to each his own. Safe and good times in your saddle!

    I gotta say I’d love to get an r9 but reality is the zx6r is basically the bread and butter of this style it’s too bad Yamaha doesn’t even compete in this category I want a Yamaha but I know an r1 is just too much bike for me right now or maybe never would be nice to have an r9 nice and torquey all you really ever need 3 cylinder but if it doesn’t come out next year I’ll probably be getting the zx6r yes very blah brand and bike but oh well it fits what I need

      Oh I would love to track an R9. I have a XSR900 for street riding which has the same engine as the MT09 and R9 (expectedly). The xsr & mt platform’s biggest weakness is the frame and suspension. I along with tons of others in the racing community are hoping the R9 gets the magical R6 frame on it. Then the dilemma for me would be to sell the zx6r on which I’ve spent a lot of time, money and track miles. We’ll see what happens when we get there.

    A bit of a biased comparison i have to say.
    I understand why some aspects seem to indicate that these two bikes are comparable but really they are not.
    The R6 is the 636 competitor, not the R7. (yes the R6 is being discontinued since the supersport market is freefalling, especially in Europe)
    The only bike that could be compared to the R7 right now is the Aprillia 660 RS.
    I noticed too that you failed to mention that the R7 is lighter and has way more torque.
    Let's be honest, the 636 is gutless at mid-range and if you were to need a quick pass punch, the mid-range torque of the R7 would be much more efficient than having to drop 2 gears on the 636.
    Also the 636 is pretty much the same bike since 2013, which explains why you can probably barter the price at the dealership, the R7 is a brand new bike.
    Overall the R7 is probably a much more fun package for the street, which is were most people spend their time on two-wheels (for 2000$ less).

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  3 роки тому +1

      I can see why a lot of people disagree with that comparison and that's fine. Everybody has a right to their opinion. In my opinion, any two motorcycles are comparable. When someone starts looking to buy a motorcycle they look at various different options and aspects. Engine configurations and technical specs aren't the only parameters. As for the comparison with RS660, yes absolutely, that is another comparison video that I've already done. You should consider watching it. Also, I'm a big supporter of actually test riding any bike before buying it because what might feel torquee and good mid range grunt to me, may not feel good enough to someone else, because our perceptions are based on our experience which may differ. Thank you for you comment though. It's good to see different perspectives.

    This is the first time I have seen one of your videos. I liked and subscribed, losts of good information. I got my motorcycle license in 1981. I remember back around 1998 when Yamaha had a homologation R7 that had 4 cylinders. I bought my first R1 in 1999. I was a little disappointed to see the R7 as a twin, but I'm over that now. The new R7 is a beautiful bike and I think is great for people who don't necessarily need excessive power. It has enough power to have fun on streets and state highways. The insurance is probably more affordable also. Interstate highways is another story....A 600 4 cylinder bike in my opinion, at the least, is necessary for the interstate and turnpikes. The only choice for me is a 1000 so I don't have to downshift unless things get really serious!!😂😁 I have owned 600's and they are excellent learning tools for riding fast and in my opinion are a step you shouldn't skip over before buying your first 1000. It will make you a better rider. Stay safe and thank you for your great informative video!

    I test road the R7 and it feels great on the street, enough power for fun. If you need more power then you aren't doing anything legal on the streets. The debate isn't if they are in the same league but if you want to spend the $1200/$1800 to step up to the next league. The R7 is in the same league as the ninja 650 but has the super sport seating position. I don't plan on doing any track days so is it stupid to spend the money on the power? or is it irresponsible not to get the bike that has the better power to cost value? THIS IS MY STRUGGLE

      Hey Jake! Most of the points you made are in line with how I'm thinking about it too. An important aspect to think about is (Which I think wasn't part of this video) is what kind of riding are you going to do. I made another video comparing the R7 with Ninja650, CBR650 and Aprilia66 and also summarized what kind of rider/riding do each of those work for. If Street riding is your focus, then a supersport isn't really the bike to go after anyway. That's just my two cents.. I'd love to discuss this further.

      @@RiderXp Just watched that video, I'm coming from a Honda CBR 300, so I want more power and I like the aggressive riding style so that is why I went R7 over Ninja650. My worry is if I get the R7 will I get bored of it quickly to where the extra money will give me a bike I will not have to upgrade from. I don't think I will get bored of it but when I ride with my brother that has an R6 he will make it look slow.
      BTW great videos, I'm guessing you will grow and do very well if you keep up the good work

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  3 роки тому +1

      You should also test ride the CBR650R.. I've ridden the CBR650F (upgraded from a CBR250R) and the CBR650R seems to have everything that the F lacked even when it was already a great bike. In terms of power, it's a reasonable step up, usable around town and even some highspeed runs. The only downside I see in the Honda over the R7, is that it's a bit heavy, though much more comfortable. As for competing with the R6, that's where the ZX6R comes into the picture. As for getting bored of a bike... that really varies for different individuals. I typically end up changing bikes every 3 years no matter how much I love the current bike. Only exception was my first bike (A bajaj 150) that I sold only when I moved countries.. Thanks for the appreciation, I'm doing my best, though I can't keep up with the speed of uploads, I do focus on quality of my research.

      If I can chime in, the r7 is like an aggressive supersport without the big scary engine. I rode it twice recently and although the riding position can be fun, I felt my body feeling sore after riding. Lots of pressure on my wrists and overall the bike feels like a toy. So light, so agile. Unless you plan on taking it to the track every other weekend, I would say the more cost effective bike is the kawi. That's not to say that Kawasaki doesn't have any flaws. Having owned 2 kawisaki motorcycles, I am convinced that they are just a lazy company. Yamaha is always pushing the envelope and creating exhilarating machines. Kawasaki finds something that works and sticks to it....for years. So my advice if you're not a millionaire and you can only buy one, get the kawi.

      Relative to the R7, yes. I have ridden my zx6r about 200 miles in a few hrs & didn’t feel fatigued. Having said that, it will obviously not be as comfortable as a sports tourer like a Ninja650 or a CBR650F.

      IMHO, zx6r isn’t the best first bike. I know inline 4 engine noises can never be matched by Parallel Twins but 130hp is way too much to start with. The only inline 4 I can think of that maybe (and that’s a big maybe) acceptable for a new rider, is the Honda engine in the cbr650r. at 95+hp, It’s a bit much, but for American highways, I get it, one does need some power. I hope you have ridden dirt bikes or something.

      Try test riding an MT07 or an R7 and see if you like the engine character. If you can keep your throttle in check, keep the zx6r under 7k rpms, you might be able to pull that off too. Be careful though. It’s hard to avoid the temptation when you know you got access to more power than you’re using.

    • @RiderXp
      @RiderXp  Рік тому +1

      @@bruddamanlo9036 You can go through all the gears, keeping it under a 7k RPM. That would mean that you only get half or less power, delivered in a more manageable way. Inline 4 engines are typically peaky which means that in higher rev range(e.g. 10k+ RPMsin the case of zx6r), the engine starts to deliver a lot more power a lot more quickly. Look up a zx6r power delivery curve chart on google and you’ll probably get what people are talking about. RPM’s is basically how fast the engine spins. And no, you won’t damage the engine if you keep it under 7k rpms. Don’t have to keep it in low gears, just dont rev high in higher gear.
