    After wrestling with a stripped screw for over half an hour, I decided to get a bigger tip screwdriver since the space got larger on the screw head and applied a lot of pressure while turning "the pressure helps getting better grip of the mess" and it worked!!!!! 😊
    Never give up people! You can do it!
    Edit: I'm so glad this worked for some of you too! ^^

    The rubber band technique works on wood screws, as they are much larger, and make it easier to get a grip. Great video. Thanks!

    Ok I see a lot of bad-mouthing here and I get it, but this worked for me. If anyone is here regarding Nintendo 3DS XL screws, then this works (but not right away). I had to drill a little into the screw (not enough to remove it, but enough to make the divot large enough to reach the edges). Then, the trick in the video works by having the divot closer to the edge so you can turn from the circumference of the screw. Good luck to y'all

    I just got a similar set from iFixIt, and it managed to remove an extremely stripped screw in about as bad of a situation as you can possibly imagine short of the screw head being ripped off or something. Not only was it fully stripped (with zero visible notches), but I had made one ill-advised attempt to remove it using super-glue that just sealed it in there even further.
    But with a *lot* of elbow grease and the iFixIt extractor, used as described in this video (along the edge of the screw), I finally managed to remove it. Was a big relief, because I was fully expecting it not to work after making zero progress with any other method.

    • @BenkaiDebussy
      @BenkaiDebussy Рік тому +1

      @@DARK_AMBIGUOUS If you have the sort of precision extractor tools in this video, he only real advice I can think of is that you'll probably have to press really hard while trying to turn the screw (and it can take a number of tries to find the right angle; I just kept trying to get a grip on the edge of the screw with the extractor until something worked). Otherwise you just have to turn to the left while aligning the notch in the extractor with the edge of the screw (which is now more like a circle due to being stripped), like shown in this video.

  • @bobbyhutter5654
    @bobbyhutter5654 3 роки тому +22

    I mean - yeah, that's an option. but if you have a soldering gun + solder and a cheap/throwaway screw driver you can just solder the tip of the screw driver into the stripped screw and unscrew it from there. renders the screwdriver & screw useless after that, but it'll get it out.

      actually tried it > worked and still managed to remove the soldering iron after using it
      i just bash the tip of the screwdriver at a solid wall and wait for the soldering iron to crack and pop out
      maybe because the screw driver i have is so hard (its in fact way too heavy for it size) that i can slam it really hard and only damage the wielded metal and not the driver itself

    • @Rabiiid
      @Rabiiid 2 роки тому +2

      The point is that these are electronics with small delicate components.
      Like im watching this video because my dumbass assembled my beats studio 3s wrong. All i had to do was fold in the side i wanted to work on and tighten the screw instead of struggling in an angle and ending up stripping the tiny screw. Now the way its angled and hidden will %100 forsure melt, fuck up anything heat would touch.

    • @ozoahameg3582
      @ozoahameg3582 2 роки тому +1

      @@Rabiiid a glue might work like super glue (but the residue might mess it up if the glue is heavy on areal residue) sometimes its just messed up and the component you have a busted screw is also delicate which leaves you to no option at all
      one of my busted screw is on my laptop's motherboard which is impossible to do brute force
      i found a small way around it but im not sure if it works on everything
      everytime i clean my laptop's interior of dust i just occasionally try to unscrew it (avoiding to break the grooves more by pressing hard, i was lucky that the screw that is busted have a good ground underneath it so the risk of breaking the board is low) slowly it actually lose and now i can clean it completely IDK in your case sometimes its just too delicate to even try bust a screw out

    This did not work for me. My screw has been stuck for so long, its on the motherboard for my laptop and it is super small and extremely stripped, its filled with super glue and it also is almost flush with the circuit board, it was put on extremely tight. I tried every size of screw driver, I tried the rubber band method, I tried supergluing the screwdriver onto the screw, I tried literally everything, someone please help, I'm too scared to drill it out and it's flush so I cannot cut it with a dremal, is there any other alternatives? Please please help anyone.

    Will this work for a tiny screw where the head came off? I just have the screw shaft in the screw hole, but the head came off completely. I'm a bit nervous because this is a tiny screw in the back of my laser cutter near the laser tube, so I really don't love the idea of drilling a hole into the screw to use a screw extractor

    EDIT....I watched to the end, just as I promised! I've ordered the tools, I'm going to wait for their arrival before proceeding with my Frankenstein Idea.
    *** Here's my original comment, which I'd still love your opinion on!
    I've a question, my issue is removing 2 very small, badly stripped screws from plastic. Specifically the plastic head of my Dyson vacuum where the motor sits! Out of 4, 2 are stripped extremely bad!
    So here's my question, it quite literally has been brewing in the back of my head, but before attempting I'd like your input ("Lady, you're crazy, Buy yourself a new vacuum or it just might work!")
    I'm thinking of taking some JB WELD Steel reinforced epoxy putty, applying it to the screws (after appropriate prepping) & before dry use a "bit" to imprint a new "head". Allow to cure for 48-72 hrs. then using hand torque only remove with the same bit.
    I'm sure you're busy, I'm simply hoping you can point me in the right direction. Thank you... Now I'll finish the video!

    I sent my switch in for a battery repair about 3 yrs into its life and did not realize nintendo repair had a few stripped screws preventing me from being able to open it to do another battery swap 4 yrs after the last one. Little slimes. I know for sure I didn't do it. Too bad it's not months from the repair or I'd call them out on it. I replaced the battery easily on my second switch but my main one has the stripped screws. Never using Nintendo repair again.
