    Thanks for the video. The drill method worked well enough to get me past a totally stripped case screw. I wish Dell wouldn't install them so darn tight at the factory!

    Thank you. I used this process to remove the screw on the back of my dell laptop. The kit available on amazon for removing a stripped screw didn't work but using a left-hand small drill the same size or a little smaller (less than 1/16 " in diameter) did work to remove the head of the tiny screw.

    i tested out with my dad that a good way to unscrew an useless screw is by using a cut plier and should be placed exactly on the line of the cross. It worked wonders and was saved.

    • @Romann009
      @Romann009 2 роки тому +1

      Clarification, you should put enough force until the cut plier doesn't slip (the screw is soft enough for it to be cut a bit), so try to do so as last resort and trust me, it will work.

      "exactly on the line of the cross" requires the screw to not be completely stripped (which has no cross), no?

    might help if you use a metal drill bit vs. a wood bit. When I have this issue, I use my dremmel with cutting wheel to cut a new channel straight across the top of the screw head. Then simply use a standard flat head screwdriver and replace the screw once it's out.

    I had to drill out two screws on the bottom of a thinkpad I bought from eBay. Drilled out the heads, however the remnants of the screws are still there. Need to figure out how to get the rest out and put new screws in.

    why did you not use the plier at the beginning in first place before doing all the drilling? the plier could've grabbed onto the screw head from the outside anyway. No need to try to drill or anything like that.
    The harder more realistic scenario is if the stripped screw is actually inside a screw hole that prevents you from being able to use the plier to grab the head from the outside. Then you might consider using a drill or even a tiny chisel to try to eventually break off the head completely to allow you to free the lid that was being held in place by the screw lid. Once you can remove the lid, that will reveal the screw stump to allow for removal with using a plier to grab onto the stump.

    I have noticed this with Apple they put their stupid screws as if the LCD or the screen is going to get up and run, the reason they do it, is they want to make it as difficult as possible, so you don't get to repair anything, you just dump it and buy a new one. There is no need in the world to tighten screws in this way and mostly they use Torkx screws which are known to easily strip and get damaged. Sod Apple.

      It might work if you put some solder inside the hole and insert the screwdriver while it's hot... but if the screw is too stubborn the solder will be pried out ...
      the best way is to make a slant using a Dremel tool, file, cutters or whatever and use a slotted screwdriver to unscrew...
