    Huge props for mentioning and showing the Dolby layouts. I've been to way too many pro speaker stores where the sales associate hasn't even been to that website. Also, the trigonometry needed for proper ceiling placement is something that nobody really touches on. I did a lot of calculations and measurements before cuttings holes. As a civil engineer I can attest to the math isn't easy or really described by anyone.

    Great video. I think the number for the subwoofers is like the others tho. a 7.2.4 would mean 2 subwoofers. There are a lot of receivers that do have 2 separate outputs for subwoofers. With one subwoofer in the room the sound is usually easy to localize while 2 subwoofers are almost harder to localize. Also, I noticed your walls in between the speakers were flat. Do you ever worry about sound echo even if the delay is slight. Most have some sort of curtains or fabric in between to dampen the sound and any reverb like a real movie theatre would have.

    I'm currently in the process of doing my own room remodel/renovation. I want to do Dolby Atmos surround sound but I don't want any floor standing speakers, mainly because it's my personal bedroom and not a theater room and I'll be having shelves for collectibles and video games.
    My room is roughly 16'x16' with 8' ceilings (ceiling is flat). For my entertainment center I'll be having the front left and right tower speakers for opposite side of my TV then having the center speaker mounted below the TV (preferably like a sound bar cause my TV will be wall mounted on a full motion mount). Then I got 4 speakers in the ceiling for the others. I will be having 2 subwoofers, preferably one right by my TV (in front of me while watching TV) then another one behind me.
    Some stuff I read is some in ceiling speakers you can angle the tweeter towards you so that you can get that sound. Not sure if this is true or not, I don't think so because majority of speakers are fixed.
    The in ceiling speakers I was looking at, the name brand is Polk Audio. The other Subwoofer I planned on getting was going to be an in wall subwoofer and that was going to be kinda hidden behind my bed so that it gets a floor level sound (since it'll be underneath my bed).
    Tried to read some stuff about it but nothing shows how I want to do my layout and want to do the right set up the 1st time without having to redo nothing... oh and without paying a crap ton of money on someone to come show me cause I'm doing my room remodel/renovation myself.
    This is the why my room remodel has can to be standby for nearly 3 months, maybe longer lol, cause of this :/
    My house was pretty damaged by Hurricane Laura and Delta last year. If anybody wanted to know.
    Thanks if there's any help and have a good one. Also thanks for your input from your video because I didn't understood the last numbers.

I thought about upgrading to a 9.2 but after watching this video I think a 7.2.4 would work out perfectly and cheaper. Do most of the receivers these days use RCA connectors or just speaker wire? I have some Logitech 5.1 channel speakers that I like to use and maybe just buy a couple more speakers to fill in the gaps. Right now they're plugged directly into my dumb TV and I don't really have a good way of calibrating the speakers.

    i am in an unfortunate situation where i cannot put in a sub,the only spot i have for a sub is right over my neighbours child`s bedroom,and even then that is behind my tv stand,which would be open,but all my gear is there,so may be an obstruction to line of fire for a sub?

      If your rear surrounds are at an angle behind you (like Youthman's diagram of 5.1), then 7.1 isn't necessary. When I first invested in lossless surround, I setup a 7.1 setup because my room is long (so it really depends on your own room acoustics). I've since updated to 7.1.4, and find 4 heights are pretty good: has more distinct pans of upper front to upper rear.

      my exprerience is that for true dolby atmos you need 4 or more height channels 2 dose just not cut it

      @Geejay, I personally would rather have a 5.1.4 than a 7.1.2. It's very difficult to get an immersive Atmos experience with only two Atmos speakers. If you can go with (4) in-ceiling speakers, that would be best. Some guys need to use height speakers as their Atmos speakers angled downward and that can work well also but in-ceiling would be the best since that is actually where the sound would be originating from.

    Hi Michael,
    Hope you are doing good 🙂.
    Well, In one of your videos wherein you asked some questions to your wife about the sound equipments and audio, you mentioned that there can be a total number of 64 speakers (or channels, I'm not sure) that can be installed in a home theatre. I was wondering what 64 of them would do, is it 64 channels or speakers, I mean how do they work in a home theatre? I'm sorry for I might sound a little stupid at times, but it seems that no audio format including the most recent ones accepts more than 13 as per you explained in the above video. I'm just inquisitive.☺️

    And what pisses me more is. It stated somewhere on a couple of sites. That if you want 4 in ceiling speakers. You can only do this by adding another 2 channel amp.
    Ffs
    $3500-$5000 aud for these two units. They should be set up to accept the speakers without another amp added...!!!
    Otherwise dont advertise them as 7.1.4 or 9.1.4
    Advertise them as 7.2.2 & 9.2.2.
    Its not really that hard aye.
    Lucky i didnt buy yet and these amps dont do what they are advertised to do, without the assistance of another amp that has to be purchased.
    Lucky i researched heaps and read the fine print specs.

    Hi there, I really enjoy watching your tubes...I would love to hear from you about setting up 2 sets of Focal SIB EVO (5.1.2) total of (6 surround speakers, 4 speakers with atmos enabled and 2 subwoofers) in my new home theater. What would you suggest in terms of layout and receiver (my room is 14'X23'). Thanks for your thoughts.

  • @ChrisOhge

    I thought the .1 or .2 is kept separate because they are line level outputs which are not amplified. This means you either need a separate amp to power the sub channel(s) or they need to be actively powered subs.

    Youthman!!! Just subscribed, Iove your content! I'd love your input, if you'd be so kind as to answer one quick question. I recently purchased a 7.2.4 (sort of) Klipsch speaker system.
    Here's my dilemma...I have 4 Klipsch r-625fa, with the "atmos" speakers firing from the top, and 2 Klipsch r-51m surrounds. Can I use 2 of the r-625fa's for my rear surrounds, and the r-51m's for the middle surrounds? It would work better as far as furniture placement goes...but if you think it's a bad idea, I can place them the other way. Any help would be great....I'm new to this.

    Some AVR's can correct each sub individually. So while they may receive the same signal they still are better then say one output split and pushed to two subs. I'm running a 7.2.4 setup, regardless if it's technically 7.1.4. I'm sure your more then aware of all of this.

    There is a difference between “Home theater” and “Commercial Movie theater” and “Music listening room” and “Over doing it”.
    I think what allot of “Home Theater” people are looking for is “Balance” young skywalker. Most people only have a small family room to work with maybe 15ft x 15ft. So they don’t need to over do it. They want best value for their money but also a realistic movie experience the way the sound producer would have liked for the sound to be heard. It would also be nice if the AVR could auto calibrate for every movie or content using some type of code. This way every sound producer could get his way and the sound could be heard as the sound producer intended.

    First number: 7.x.x = This number means the amount of main speakers at ear level.
    Second number: x.1.x = This number indicates the number of subwoofers.
    Third number: x.x.4 = This number shows the amount of speakers above ear level that add a 3D effect. (with a Dolby Atmos enabled home theater receiver)
    EXAMPLE 1:-Surround Sound 9.1.4
    9 = Nine Traditional Speakers
    1 = One Floor Standing Subwoofers

    Example 2:-Surround Sound 5.2.4

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  4 роки тому

      Your comment is the reason why I made the video. Some people assume the second digit is how many subwoofers you have but that is actually incorrect. I can have 7 ground level speakers and 4 subwoofers daisey chained together using a single Sub out on my receiver and I still have a 7.1 setup, not a 7.4 setup.
      What I am not certain of is if the .1 is in reference to how many dedicated LFE channels there are (currently there is only 1) or if it is how many dedicated sub outputs you have on your AVR or processor (some AVR's are basically a Y splitter so it's still a single output).
      I've reached out to Sound United for clarification on this.

    • @bernarddzonzimagagula346

      I would say it’s technically correct to refer to as 9.1.2 or 9.2.4 or 5.2.4 its not about Facebook or forums but what its technically known and referred to even by Dolby

    • @bernarddzonzimagagula346
      @bernarddzonzimagagula346 4 роки тому +1

      Youthman its not about the number of subwoofers ,i was supposed to mention that which you can independently control not ones connected in parallel with Y connectors like you chained 4 subs from a single output those are just in parallel.The second digit means the number of floor standing subs independently connected to separate outputs .Your AVR can have two sub outputs but if you only one sub it only becomes x.1.x but if you use both outputs it becomes x.2.x .

    • @bernarddzonzimagagula346
      @bernarddzonzimagagula346 4 роки тому

      Youthman This is how I understand the second figure 7.1 vs 7.2 Surround Sound
      Having a surround sound system gives you the best aural experience with your movies or video games. There are a number of surround sound specifications, but at the very top of the list are 7.1 and 7.2 systems. The main difference between 7.1 and 7.2 surround systems is that the latter has an additional sub that should give more oomph to the sound. But you should not be fooled. A true 7.2 systems should have two separate channels for the subs, so that the two subs may not be outputting the same signal. Some 7.1 systems may seem like 7.2 systems because they have two subs. But the truth is, the two subs get the same signal from a single channel via a Y splitter. This is not true 7.2, although it might seem so at first glance.
      Having two separate sub channels should give you directionality when it comes to the low frequency sounds. This can be achieved by altering volume levels of the individual subs so that it seems like it is coming from a certain spot and not dead center. If you used a 7.1 system with a splutter for two subs, the sound would always seem dead center since the two will always have the same intensity and volume.

      This actually is a great question and I’m open to some dialogue about it. Correct me if I’m wrong, but how many LFE channels are there? There is only one.
      Yes an AVR can separate the Sub Out so that you can adjust the level of each sub independently, but still they are both receiving the same LFE signal. So how can that be two separate channels?

      Youthman Remember subwoofers are calibrated to subwoofer level not LFE level which are two different things,the .1 or .2 denotes the subwoofer “levels”

      See that’s where I feel differently the .1 or .2 isn’t the levels it’s the information. I’m going to make a video on it to see if we can get some discussion specifically. I’d love to get an answer and I think it’s a great conversation to have. I’ve never been one to believe that I’m always right. If I’m wrong I want to know that I’m wrong. Thanks for the question stay tuned
