Fyi at 11:38 that sound when you come to a stop is the rear spoiler right on top of the back window closing - that's the noise of it closing down. All Turbo models have the automatic rear window spoiler. It' set to open from factory once you go above 45mph and closes automatically when you slow down. There's a switch above the clutch pedal/next to the OBD2 port on the right side of it that you can manually open/close the rear spoiler. Also reprogram opening/closing speeds so that you don't hear that noise at slow speeds. I used to set mine to open/close at freeway speeds.
Yes, Sir! Thank you for that... I finally figured that out as I began to research the car and watch a few more videos. I used some WD-40 and made it a whole lot quieter! What a thumping thrasher that sounded like before!
Manliness is driving what you like regardless of the opinion of lesser men. Drop some daisy wheels on that just to rustle the haters! I like em. I gotta say the next gen is a little sexier, but the gen you have is a cheery looking car. I am enjoying watching this series! Found you on accident and it turns out we're neighbors! I'm over in your neighboring twin city. Small world!
Yeah, I love these cars... I just wish people on the road would treat me with the same respect when I am driving my F350. But they don't. With this car, I can leave them in the dust if I wanted to.
@@HelicoolsHelipad I want to know why they treat you with respect in the f150. It can't be the size because I got a RAM 1500 and everyone drives like a maniac with no fear of death around here!
Your video is still relevant! I need to do something about the headlights on my 1999 1.8T Beetle that I bought new 25 years ago. Still love the car, still have the original flower installed by the dealer lol. I did a polishing of my headlights and that helped a lot, but it's time to go LED so am looking into getting the Spec D headlights.
Nope! That’s factory! 😂 The black wire melted out of it, so whoever owned it, just slapped it in the positive lug. *sigh! But what can you expect from a $500 auction buy. The neighbor was in over his head… so I helped him out.
@@HelicoolsHelipad there's anandroid app called Torque that, with a Bluetooth odbii reader, can read and reset codes. I think my reader was under 20 bucks. It's been very useful for pulling codes!

I love my 02 turbo, a great toy!

It's been a couple of years now, and the lights are still in near perfect condition. Two tough winters and counting.
Looking great Dave! It indeed is a fun car!
Thanks my friend. I think I am going to name it "Largent" or "Zorn."
Very nice videos, thank you ! I am trying to restore my niece's 2008 beetle.
I love these little cars. So much fun to drive, and nibble as can be! It's my inexpensive sports car.
I like the Beetle!
I really do as well. My son came home from college for Spring break. I got to drive it again!
I polished my headlights and they look brand new.. Oem 2001
Painting on a thin coat of polycrete (outdoor grade polyurethane) works like magic, but I needed an excuse to go LED. :-D
Keep them old headlights... just need a polish and can be a good replacement if you have one go bad!
My 2001 beetle is a beast.. everyone who talkes about Bugous calls him a “him” without prompting..
Oh, yeah! I really like these zippie cars!
Where can I find the headlight and tail light gaskets that work?
These light come with the gaskets, so there is that. I suppose I would Google it and try to find something that way.
Thnks sr
These headlights are still going strong... very bright!
What the crap is that black box with the red wires on it on top of the battery? Is it some sort of aftermarket part??
Nope! That’s factory! 😂 The black wire melted out of it, so whoever owned it, just slapped it in the positive lug. *sigh! But what can you expect from a $500 auction buy. The neighbor was in over his head… so I helped him out.
These obd II or canbus?
I think they are OBD II. I'd have to research for that answer, but I do recall it having the OBD II hookup under the steering wheel.
