If you want to make all the fracture segments completely seamless, you need to manually type '0' into the margin field of the Mesh Data window. By default blender has a non-zero margin which makes the segments visible prior to separation.
That still dosnt work with me. Idk what have happend, but even in new scenes, with the margin to zero, it gives me small errors all around. Tried in Blender 3.2 - 3.4. Annoying as hell.
@@joachimfure8030 you could duplicate the fragments, join them back together and remove the inside so you have a shell object like the original sphere but with faces the same shape as the segments, then join this into your geometry nodes, with a delete geometry based on the same proximity so it only shows the part of the sphere shell which hasn't started to break, and only shows the 3d segments which have started to break
@@CartesianCaramel yes, it always seams as if you could do everything with geometry nodes, but if you have a very specific thing in mind, i think you often find, that there are still a lot of things you just cant do with it.

I want to use it in reverse to have a object build it but the fractures shouldn't just spawn on their original location and just scale up. I'm looking for an assembly effect that looks like the parts coming from the sides before they settle in place. Kind of like in your lego assembly. Can you help me out? Thanks a million
Can just one person make this video with an actual object that you'd be dealing with? I can do this all day with basic shapes, but it never works when I need it for an actual complex model

What if I want the Empty (the "trigger") to be non-uniform scale? I want to affect more wide on the X axis, than tall on the Z axis, for instance. Fallof range more shaped like a rectangle than a uniform sphere.

I stumbled upon this channel as I was looking for a beginners tutorial on fractures with blender. Great stuff, but a bit more complicated than I needed as I really wanted the bare minimum.
The only thing that bothers me out is the fact nothing breaks only in straight lines like celular noise. We should see some curves also to look more natural.
What did you do to fully understand what geometry nodes you need for what effect? You make it look easy, but there's no way I'd know what to throw in there to get these desired effects
Click on the first axis at the top and drag to the bottom. All 3 will be highlighted and selected at the same time. If you don't release the click and still hold down, you can slide left to right to change values. If you release the click, you can manually enter the value you want. Hope this helps!
But how to make this fractured pieces move with it's parent? The're immoveable with this setup, adding position to instances pushes them outwards and inverts parents movement
Is there a way to control the scale/rotate/translate of instances based on the size of the instance? Example, if I wanted the smaller pieces to break away before the larger pieces? Is it also possible to use multiple empties? Thanks a lot for this tutorial
I was wondering if you can alter the material based on the position of the empty. I was thinking off including a set material node at the end of the transform operations connecting it to the Object info + position but I was not able to figure out how to set a blending between the materials within the geometry nodes editor. Does anyone have an idea how to do that?

@@Hurt21 instance what? The Cellfracture Addon writes its results into the mesh / into objects. After it is processed nothing can be changed anymore. Of course it’s always possible to work with copies of the original mesh, but that‘s still not procedual and destructive. Currently I‘m working on a Geonode setup which should do the same as the addon - except it‘s really non destructive. So it is actually possible to solve it in pure Geometry Nodes.

The title kind of made me think, that the cell fracturing was done with geometry nodes.
I wish that was the case, but it doesn't seem that it will be implemented for a long time.

is there a way to hide the "fracture seams" as the individual pieces get moved into place?
I had to use the scale elements node. if I used scale instance it would scale all the objects as if it were one object.

How did you scale instances with all 3 axis at the same time? How did you select all axis?

Got it! If you add two material and then use the "cell fracture" feature it automatically adjust the inside and the outside.
Give Ableton a try. IMO its more intuitive.
