Derek, the shop teacher everyone wishes they had in back in high school.
Appreciate that
That's the truth right there!
I would've had a different career entirely!
That’s a class would’ve payed attention to
You said my brother 😢
I think it would make a great truck for picking up new vehicles. You can put parts in the back and have everything you need. I also love that you take the back roads. When I retired from the Military, I don't get in a hurry anymore and get off the freeway and see some of this country that I protected for 20 years. You had an awesome drive. Thanks for the look see Derek.
Thank you for your service mister johnson.
Thank you for your service, We need more men like you. Maybe sooner than I'd like to think
Thank you for your service
Thank you for your service sir
I didn't do 20, but I understand the feeling!! Once I got out of the Navy, I was no longer in a hurry.
Your squarebody content is always my favorite. Long live the squarebodies!
Derek my buddy, oil fillin with no funnel. Pull yer dipstick put the tip into the oil inlet and touch the rim of yer oil bottle to the stick. Voilas the oil will flow down it into the engine. Instead of smokeshow coatin the block and manifoldes
“More hose than a L.A night club”. Had me rolling.
Came straight to the comments looking for this exact one 😂
😂so did I!
☠️☠️☠️
Me too! Kinda spicy for this channel! Hahahaha
Me too! 😂😂
We had a lot of these 3/4 ton work trucks. They were all 350’s with 3 speed auto. With 411 gears and one 16 gallon fuel tank, the range was about 80 miles and that’s how far our plant was from the nearest large town. No aircon, no radio, great in the summer in the south. We had 2 colors of interiors, either tan or blue. The local upholstery shop kept two spare seats in stock, a tan and a blue. We generally wore them out about once a year. Looks like he drove that seat about 30 years.
A guy doesn't know the fine details of his Chevrolets, but if I am not mistaken, wouldn't there be a good chance that's a 4-bolt main block being in an HD truck?
@@nicothebassdude Probably so. Never had engine trouble with any of them.
I really love these videos but what really makes my day is when Deric shows the back roads through the country. I was raised on a 130 acre farm in southern IL and I miss the old days, now I’m stuck in the city just trying to find that country road that will take me home again.😊
I’m a Brit and I just love these trips showing me your beautiful country and the back roads , I just love it.
It’s still in your heart my friend. That’s where all the roads still lead!🥹
Just take a ride and get lost on a Sunday afternoon. Good for us!
I used to run a wild land fire engine (Type 6) on a 1983 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 chassis. When you showed the inside of the cab, it brought back some memories!
Don't know how I manage to sit through and watch these videos you make. Wait, I know , because I enjoy them!
Thank you and never give up, there's always one more drive left in them.
A working radio!? Must be a sign. I would love to see this one fixed up, you could even do a series on that, and use it to revive some other projects closer to home. Great job Mr. Bieri!!!
"Its got more hose than a L.A night club" Almost choked from laughing so hard. Cant beat Dereks humor 😂😂
Had the exact same experience 😂😂😂
That was a good one, and never heard him say it before
Yes sir had me spitting out my coffee this morning.
My new fav anecdote from Derek.
Same!! Lmao😅
i love looking through old trucks and seeing what treasures await
I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate all the types of content you put out. No-one knows just how much work and effort each video is and how long it takes to get everything in place. You're a hard worker through and through! Make sure to get some rest and cold snacks though. (not because you look tired or anything, I assume you work near around the clock to keep all these videos rolling with traveling and all the project you have it must be alot on the ol' to-do list not to make mention of the should-do list.)
I wish my Granddad was still alive to watch your films Derek, Sadly he's been off the road for 31 years and I don't think even you could get his motor running again... Weight reduction is probably fully complete now. Anyhoo, he was a lifetime classic car fanatic and home mechanic and I now work on my 2 Vanagons over the pond here in the UK and discovered you only this week via Roadworthy Restorations. Love it all. Just perfect demeanour for the shit these things can throw at you. And your love of old motors shines through. I'm now a VGG binge-a-holic. Thanks dude.
Thanks for Commenting…. Interestingly, me too..
Hey Derek. Just a young feller in his early 20s struggling with life here. Thank you so much for all the content.
I can't imagine the amount of work that goes into making this, so more than just the awesome content, you help inspire a guy to do stuff.
You got it buddy
Just watching VGG makes my day. The way he explains everything thing is just incredible. I have adopted a few of his terms and everyone wonders what the heck I'm talking about. But what's a fella to do. I've learned what to do and what not to do. Thank you Derek
Way too much! Perfect.
@@100363Boil Nope, not even close.
I’d love the idea of turning one of these rigs into like a JC Whitney catalog special. All the old man tricks and traits.
Thanks for the FREE content ,as always great stuff.I think some people forget that we work 40 hours a week but you and your wife put alot more hours in than that ,been watching from the start.Thank you very much
Derek, when pouring ANYTHING from o bottle you have to side pour it.
Take the “bottle”, turn it on it’s side and pour slowly.
No more glug,glug.
Just clean him up good, little patena protection, spark plugs wires cap n rotor, and you got yourself a sick ward rig for sure! Man, I love watching your channels Derek! Always entertaining AND enlightening! Keep up the amazing work Sir!
Love this content. This guy is not only fun, and enjoyable to hear and watch, kind of wish I was there with him while he does it. These videos are very awesome, and professionally put together. Thank you. I love the old trucks!
it's been awhile since I saw you on youtube. what a blessing you are.
Woo hoo! Happy Friday y'all! Hope everyone has had a great week and have a wonderful weekend! 💙🙏🏼
That one's got the driver's seat delete option! 🤣
Yes after u put hand on it it's going anywhere I know this for a fact been watching u for some year 😂😂😂😂
When watching a master at work keep it coming derrick started my motivation streak I appreciate u an don't stop the magic r I'll just be dipped 😂😂😂😂
My dad and I used one just like this in NC he picked up from a natural gas company. Used it for mowing lawns when I was in high school forever. The box was bolted to the frame though instead of on top of the bed. Awesome truck all 3gal per mile and all 😂
I vote for keeping it as a set ice truck it could be kinda handy specially if you got the air going again and stuff . It would be a good one to drive out to try to rescue other ones and not so valuable that you’d have to worry about leaving it a few days somewhere
It would be cool to see the compressor work again, even if it eventually gets removed. Then an "oily rag resto" What a great thing to have for cruises or even Power tour. fill the boxes with cold snacks and jerky :D Lovely example of a Square body. Nice find
The last hit hooked up really good and it looks like Caddy Jack has more to give.... it sounds real good !
Thank you for always making wholesome, entertaining and educational automotive content, Derek. Your channels are my favorite.
Thanks for the kind words
Moved to western PA from So Cal a few years ago when I retired and I try to do the back roads whenever possible.
Hey there Derek, thank you for all these videos. I appreciate you taking the time out of your very busy schedule to inform and entertain us, well mostly entertain. LOL.
Derek, I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see you do a square body 4x4 with a shell set up for sleeping/camping/fishing/hunting!
I know this is an older video but I’d love to see this be your revival truck. Load it up with tools and parts to go out and save some close to your home.
Derek the amount of tools and gas cans you must have from these recoveries must be astonishing lol.
Helpful tip turn your oil jug the other way around when pooring. it was designed to poor that way and you will spill less.
Ya know, havin' a air compressor under the hood might be a pretty handy thing. Specially when you go out to the tree rows to drag another rescue out!
Just something cool about clean patina
Nothing beats the old rigs, you should keep her service body and with a little engine refresh or a diesel she’d be a sweet revival rig!
I’d like to see her dolled up with the VGG style patina without the service box. Pretty decent rig.
That started life out as a tire truck. Goodyear and Firestone tire shops ran that exact set up all over the US in the late 70s through the early 90s.
It's like hanging out with my brother. Exactly like him.
I got my peepers in the background and look what's there... a nice early 70's Camaro front clip! Nice! Ok, back to the original programming...
Beets was a great rig, miss that truck.
Have to love the old square body Chevy. Great job. Keep up the good work
Change the oil, replace the battery, get starter fluid, anti-freeze, gas, brake fluid, battery charger, gas can and hose, etc. to start cars.
I really like Longmire!!
Absolutely love the content Derek I get the best laugh of the day watching.
I had an '86 C/10 that was very similar to this truck. White long bed, toolboxes on the top of the bedsides, 4 speed. Mine was a 305 though. It used oil like it burned gas and I kept a 5 qt. jug of oil in the same place as this one. I kinda miss that POS.
I gotta be the crotchety old man here...
That's not a 4-speed WITH a Granny Gear, it's actually a 3-Speed PLUS a Granny Gear.
It's sort of like the opposite of overdrive, but MORE.
The reason it's a Granny + 3 is because the "Compound Low" isn't actually useful unless you're loaded the hell down and really need it.
You basically drive in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th; which basically makes them 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
I had a dump-bed '87 with a Target and the same transmission.
I miss that truck.
Oh, almost forgot...
SUPER Luck would have been a 454. 😁
Love this truck! The same exact truck I learned to drive in! Custom Deluxe! Was the old farm truck. Miss that thing!
Literally mouth to fuel tank resuscitation…another great revival! Thank you, Dereck!
18:16 I'm really disappointed you didn't take me to the store with you.
Keep it as a service truck. Its lived a long life as one already and seems in very nice condition body wise, motor is tired but a new plant that baby will make it to a million miles
I’d keep it as a service truck to bring tools to revivals. And that air tank can run impact tools, air guns, inflate tyres etc.
I say you should keep the boxes and the tank on top, especialy if they are as old as the truck.
.... A guy I drink beer with now and then has a truck almost exactly like this one.. he has his all kitted out for road and job site mobile repair... The odometer just cracked 266k!!!... the engine is original as well as the transmission... He rebuilt the transmission about 8yrs ago... He replaced practically every gasket on the engine.. did a valve job on the heads, valve seals, replaced the starter twice, he has had to do headlamps and other bulbs, but besides all that, that’s all I can remember him bitching about having to fix on it... That truck has made him a very good living... he wouldn’t sell that thing ever, he’s so attached to it hahaha... but overall it’s been quite good to him and I don’t ever recall him actually breaking down in it, or him ever getting stranded anywhere in it, so I’d say he’s had really good luck with it overall... it runs awesome and still has a ton of power, even with all the weight on it... honestly I’m kinda jealous cause I’ve always wanted one all set up like his... a literal repair shop on wheels.. If it had room for a refrigerator and a couch it would be the ultimate manmobile...😬👍🇺🇸
I just to point out how good the camera work is, even so that derek is 99,999% of the time alone: he must think about the rig and how to fix it and ALSO how to film it, what the shots to make and from recent times he even added B roll shots of thinks he is speaking to add context to that. Such a great guy the guy is with alot in his toolkit. Congrats man!
Bring it back to life as the service truck it was.
Make a slammed custom service truck on airbags. Bonus points if it runs on air from the engine driven air compressor.
I have 1980 c30 dually with a dump box comes with a spare wiggly stick sm465 with a title and supposedly a rebuilt treefidy dual pipes
Maybe you should put a wrap on the quarter panel so when it gets destroyed you can rewrap the quarters no repaints
"What should I do with it?" I would have the upper air tank wrapped like a big battery.. A fix some BIG welding wire to ends... red to both ends "Of Course" and run the wires down into the hood and Call it the "Hill Billy Hybrid.." I have a graphic for you.. If I knew where to send it.. Kenneth ... Im just over near Knoxville... I can come over and help make it look cool. say when.. Also.. With the massive compressor... you could do one HUGE air horn or pipe organ????
Lets see a full motor rebuild on this one! Nothing fancy..just a good ole reliable Chevy 350 Square Body going to town rig. Bring her back to original.
Cummins swap, 4 wheel air suspension with the ability to dump the rear bags making it easier to attach trailers and load. Remove everything off/out of the rear. Put the air tank where the 2nd fuel tank would go, perhaps put in a fuel door on that side so you can hide air ports. Toss a tailgate at er and call it a day.
Born to be a VGG rescue véhiekul
My opinion: Get rid of all the air compressor gear, tank and boxes. Then clean it up, repair any leaks it has (even a rear main seal, if required) and run it. If it were mine, I'd replace the clutch and maybe even see if there's a more up to date transmission for it. I like the manual, but it'd be great with a true 4 speed (5-speed or... dare I say it, a 6-speed) if one can be found that'd fit correctly. Of course, you'd also need to go through the truck; brakes, brake lines, fuel lines, filters, and so on... and so on. Or perhaps you have too many vehicles and not enough time. Maybe you'd prefer to sell it to an old timer like me. I actually drove a service truck of similar vintage back when I was employed as a mechanic. I'm on the cusp of retirement now, so I'll have time on my hands. I'd happily repair and update everything that truck needs .
Amazing he did it again. A rust bucket is alive!
Service truck!!!!!!! make that compressor work I would love to see it run again
Turn it into a back woods Ghostbuster truck. Who you gonna call? VGG Buster!
Also. I miss beets. That was a fun series to watch. But cant keep em all.
Looks great from over here in New Zealand!
You know Derek u always have ur pocket knife all u need is a pop bottle to cut bottom of for a funnel so u don't spill sooo much oil lol just a suggestion 😂
Funny thing.....I was in Tennessee for the first time last week and did a ton of driving across the state and into the Smokies. After driving for hours the strangest thing happened. The road sped up and some Country music started playing in my head (I don't even listen to country music!) At that point I realized I had watched too much VGG. Like that's even possible??
My dad loves your Channel😂
Got to be the vice grip mobile garage surely.....fill it up with new tools and you'll be rescuing wrecks in style.....
How 'bout name it "air tanker 3/4"....? Maybe make it a road rescue square body during the power tour or something like that.
Growing a mullet and a beard because your my idol!
Gotta keep your receipts for the paper funnel!
I would put new door panels and new seat n rubber Matt , maybe take the poor man’s camper shell off.
Looks good enough to maybe fix up n paint
Bout died when he said you can tell because of the way that it is 😂😂😂
it would make a great running to town truck!
Love the automatic anti rust/ bug smogger chev row let 350
Ok you have to fill the air tank and see how far it will move on air that compressor is good for a 40 hp at least. Tighten the belt until she is just about to break and giver.
Can make a service truck trailer from an old rear half. Need it hook it up. Don't then drop it off.
Definitely make it a going to town rig. That box system needs to go
I would consider putting the air pump system on one of your ramp trucks to build a recovery truck for some of the vehicles you find here and there.
My son is named Remington, so I heartily endorse that name. I'd strip off all the stuff, get it back to a normal 3/4 ton truck, and stick that freshened 400 in it.
Nix the service bed and make ya a good going to town/farm/tow rig.
I don’t know if this would destroy the premise of the series, but what if you refurbished the truck as a roadside service truck and drive it to the next rescue? How about VGG Rescue Truck? Would O’Reilly’s sponsor it?
First thing would be is clean up the interior as for the exterior keep the boxes and compressor leave the exterior the way it is and give the engine a good tune up and just seal it back up.
When i see you with the hat backwards, I know its a good video!
18:16 Wish my head and hair made that sound!
I'm dying 😂
We have both kinds, country and western. BLUES Brothers
You should take that service truck, restore everything the way it is and start assisting stranded drivers.should make some interesting videos....
Keep it as your recovery truck
Greatest quote ever....its hotter than shania twain in the 90s...will deffo use that
I think call it Nicklaus, because all of the 'Jacks' in the back
Imagine the idle hours on that engine running that compressor for tire road service
That 70 camaro front clip sitting in the background hurts me
Derek, you asked us what to do with her.
"Retirement Party". Her duties are done. Let her be what she was born with.
Thanks,
Jim
