    Hey Rosh, I would also mention that for auditioning and tweaking sounds, the looper at the beginning of the chain is a great help. Record the DI and tweak away with it continuously playing.

    • @RoshRoslin
      @RoshRoslin  2 роки тому +2

      Yes,. this can be an effective approach, however I personally play and respond differently depending on the feel of an amp, I don't find it useful for my playing to have a loop running when tweaking sounds.

      Hi Rosh, when I dial tones i usually set the looper at the beginning of the chain and tweak the sound while the looper is playing. What I notice is that, there is a difference in the tone that I hear on the looper vs playing the actual guitar. Example, I already like the tone that i tweaked while playing the looper but when i play the guitar, its sounds real different. Is there something wrong with this?

    Thanks Rosh. Excellent as always. Another question regarding timing of the Loop. I see "INPUT QUANTIZE" mentioned in the manual but cannot find this in the Looper? Is this used with the Threshhold you alluded to or is it used post-recording to edit the loop? Thanks David

    • @RoshRoslin
      @RoshRoslin  Рік тому

      This is to quantize the looper based on the tap tempo, so the loop will "cut off" and "start" at the same time the tap tempo does

    Good tips. How do you access the looper on the physical unit?
    Also, did you reply to me recently saying that you thought that the FM3 was better than the FM9? I mostly disagree- except for size and price. You said something like it sounded better. It does not. No worries though- I simply want to learn and was hoping to get your specific reasons for that comment. You are clearly an expert, but I never heard anything.
    One tip I can share, to avoid all these steps and tap dancing is to use something like what I have- an external Boss RC-500 dedicated looper. It makes things much easier. I can also store loops, 32-bit audio quality, left, right tracks, lets you fade in/out, auto start when you begin to strum AND it has a built in very decent DRUM MACHINE which is huge- at least for me. I love looping. The RC-500 only has instrument level out so you will have to also add in an interface if you want to use headphones. I tried and it only output to one side and it was a fairly weak, unimpressive signal.
    I am just learning the FM9. I noticed I can turn on and off effects with the footswitches and maybe I am missing something, but how do I select e.g., 4 on, 2 off...like as if they were actual stomp boxes. Does each preset have it's own unique signal chain? Do I copy the main Scene x9, then add/remove a single effect at a time? I think Helix has snapshots. Is this type of custom tone option something we are missing? I might not be saying it right- I just want to be able to turn on/off certain effects but also, sometimes retain some of the other effects in the preset.
    Thanks!

      @RoshRoslin  Рік тому +1

      You would first need to add the looper block to the preset. Then you can rotate the knob that's assigned to the layouts to switch to layout 5 and toggle the functionality of the looper. I believe it is usually knob "B"

      @@RoshRoslin Thanks. Can I do that directly on the unit? Also my long presses don't seem to do anything. I thought those pedals were multifunctional. It would also be nice if I press twice it turns off the effect like a real stompboard it doesn't seem to do that period I'd like to be able to have a mix of different effects on and off but it seems like it's just all scenes or nothing which doesn't seem perfect.

    • @MOAB-UT
      @MOAB-UT Рік тому

      @@RoshRoslin Also it seems strange that the LED says preset when all the buttons are changing scenes. Then if that LED says scenes all the buttons are presets. I'm talking on the unit not sure the button number but toward the top on the right the 1st one I think says either preset or scenes. It seems to reflect the opposite on all the other LED's that are lit. I'm still getting to learn and know my FM9 but these are just a initial Thoughts

    • @MOAB-UT
      @MOAB-UT Рік тому

      @@RoshRoslin Seems like a lot of extra unnecessary work. On most other units you can call up a looper on command- push of one button. No need to over complicate things. So if I had e.g., 1,000 Scenes/Presets, I have to do this extra step literally 1,000 times? That seems like a ridiculous work flow. Why not one button- Turn ON Looper? I guess you can access it with a long press but all that has to be set up. Out of the box, the tone is there but it is certainly not the most intuitive device.

    Is there a way to import an audio file to Fractal for looper and use it as a "player" like like for example for a begining of the song?

    • @RoshRoslin
      @RoshRoslin  3 місяці тому

      No, the looper on the FM9 doesn't permanently record anything. Only keeps the loop active as long as the unit is powered on"

    What if you have your cab block at the end right before output 1 and you have output 3 before your cab Block, where should you put the looper?

    • @RoshRoslin
      @RoshRoslin  3 місяці тому

      Before the cab block and before the split to output 3

    I have an external boss FS-5u to turn the looper on and when I press a second time it goes into overdub mode...but I can not get it to go out of overdub mode. Wouldn't it be great if by pressing one switch you would be able to record then stop recording and by pressing it again go in and out overdub mode?

    • @RoshRoslin
      @RoshRoslin  Рік тому

      The record and overdub are tied to the same switch command while the play/stop are tied to another so unfortunately a latching switch won't work like you want. If you can send midi, then you can use CC# commands to engage any of the looper functions independently

    How many tracks can I use with the looper? Ist it possible to use it as a verse/refrain/brigde loop-scenario? (where I would need 3 loop-tracks)

    • @RoshRoslin
      @RoshRoslin  2 роки тому

      The looper can only record one loop (with multiple overdubs at a time) you can't trigger a second completely different loop. When I do solo shows, I basically record one loop (like the verse) then stop the loop when I get to a different section and manually play it on the guitar and then re-engage the original loop when I return to the verse etc.

      @@RoshRoslin Are you sure?
      Maybe you can install more loopers in your chain parallel or
      I have seen a library. If you can save your loop than there is maybe a possibility to load this loop to a button with the function play and if you give another loop to another button than it stops to play and the other loop starts.
      I have no FM9 so I dont know what is possible.

      @@RoshRoslin Thanks for your reply! I definitely think that a dedicated fade out option would be a big improvement to the looper overall. can never get the loop to stay in sync. Ableton no problem, it's never in time. the FM3 looper isn't that accurate sadly.

    • @RoshRoslin
      @RoshRoslin  2 роки тому

      Try the crossfade and quantize parameters to sync it to tempo, especially fi you're syncing to Ableton.

      If The looper is glitching at the end/beginning of the loop, try going to the looper config page and turn off loop quantize.

      I use a RC500 w/the FM9 and it works great. Shame that I have to though. The looper should be more robust. It almost feels like an afterthought. Thrown in just to say they have one but very little love or options went into it. No fade out, no saving of loops is silly, no effects on loops, no rhythm, etc. Should be one press button to turn on- not have to add the block every time- that is annoying.

  • @MOAB-UT
    @MOAB-UT Рік тому

    Not intuitive- even for an expert. Seems like it would be a nightmare to use live. I will stick with my external RC500.

  • @MOAB-UT
    @MOAB-UT Рік тому

    It is overly complex. Great tone but truly great tech should just work- be at least more intuitive. I wish they would update the UI on the unit. Make it easier and touchscreen. Looper should have a drum machine built too especially for this kind of money.
    That said, it is still one of the very best you can buy right now
