Blancmange Cover
Performed and Produced by dEk101 using Logic Pro X
Written by Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe
Blind Vision was released as the lead single for Blancmange's second album, Mange Tout in April 1983. The single reached no.10 in the UK singles chart.
Neil Arthur is quoted as saying "It's about people who are too blinkered to see what's staring them in the face, too stubborn to accept the truth. It's also about blind faith, accepting religion at face value."
Alright, dEk. Just had a good listen to the original. Not only is your version SERIOUSLY GOOD but I think you outdone the original's percussion. AWESOME 👍 I'll be back later to have another listen after I've had a few. I promise not to make any comments when I'm drunk 🤣 Cheers, Dave.
Alright, DeK. Just WOW, you must have spent so much time on all that percussion. This song has some of the most complicated sub and counterpoint percussion rhythms. Or at least it’s always sounded that way to me and I wouldn’t even know where to start with that. I love the whole thing and your instrument arrangements are also great, the synth brass parts are awesome, especially in that extended mid 8 and I think this one suits your voice really well. That lead sound sounds like one of the guitar emulations off the JD800 or the JP8000, I had both but can’t quite put my finger on it. This and Living on the Ceiling are two of my favourite 80s songs. Anyway, I’m super impressed with all that percussion and rhythm detail. In any other song all that rhythm stuff would have piled up into a huge mess but I think that’s what made this song and you’ve totally nailed it. Excellent work my friend 👍 This is defo going into my Friday night blowout list 😆 Cheers, Dave.
Well funny you should say that Dave…. It did take me f***ing ages just to work out what the hell was going on in this song. When I started it I hadn’t quite realised how complicated it was going to be or how many layers there were to this track. I thought I really knew this song until I sat down and REALLY listened to it. Fortunately, I found a dub mix which really helped to reveal some of the underlying parts. Anyway, glad you liked it. Cheers
👍💯👍
Cheers!
Awesome mix thats a propper layer cake of soundscapes thanks for sharing this reminds me of my big sister 😊 have a great weekend
That’s s brilliant!… Cheers Chris. Music forms so many memories. Blancmange we’re one of the first bands I ever saw performing live,, so they have a special place in my heart 😊
That's an excellent cover of a very good track - it just builds, and keeps adding layers of percussion and brass. It sounds superb when played very loud. Blancmange were at the top of their game around this period. I used to get 'Electronic Soundmaker and Computer Musician' (ESCM) magazine (with a cover mount cassette, full of new tracks, and synth tests, with sounds begging to be sampled) at this time, and in one issue, it had a Blancmange interview, where they said that they were not keen on using digital samples, wherever possible. They also showed off their brand new Casio CZ-101 synths (I had one, and it was a lovely bit of kit), and their UMI-2B sequencers. MIDI was the new big thing in the 1980's.
Such happy days.
Have you ever heard of Edward Ka Spel? He made a wonderfully strange and sinister record, many years ago, called 'Even Now'. I reckon that might make a good cover.
Cheers Brian. Like I said in my response to Dave .. I hadn't quite reckoned on how complicated this track was going to be when I started it. It took a lot of figuring out. Not heard of Edward Ka Spel but I'll be sure to check him out. If you're interested, there's quite an interesting interview here where Neil talks about synths: www.musicradar.com/news/blancmange-interview
mmmmmm this is very clear with a good sound , and being an electronic musician im impressed
Much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to listen
Great version pretty sure Stephen used his iconic Jupiter 8 love this though 🙌🏾🎹🙌🏾
Cheers!
What can I Say Dek, you always manage capture & even enhance the Wow factor of the original. This is something many hit covers haven't managed. I'm just glad we have a chance to hear. I don't have the technical understanding that you & David have, but I know what I like when I hear it. This is great. Looking forward to next already.
Cheers! … You know these tracks are a labour of love for me and Blancmange have special place in my musical journey. It’ll be 40 years this Dec 18th since we saw them perform at the Birmingham Odeon
Great to have been a part of it & to be listening to this inspired cover 40 years on.
