Great video! I just signed the paperwork on a Basecamp 16X today! (Towing w/ my 4Runner!) and will be living in it full-time within a couple months. I was going through the van vs. Basecamp thing myself for quite a while. The two things that really pushed me to get the Basecamp were more space (able to keep bikes in the 4Runner w/out impacting living space), and the ability to detach and drive the 4Runner separately. Maybe I'll run into you out there!
That's awesome, Greg, and congrats! We totally agree on those two points for getting the basecamp. If you see us, say hi! Thank you so much for watching and enjoy it!
Really interesting video! Would love to see a comparison on expenses: trainer life vs. apartment life - like the "what I spend in a week" but comparing the two - would be interesting.
Of course, I don’t know exactly because we don’t own a van, but I would imagine that the weekly expenses are very similar. Gas, food, water, and places to stay would all be almost the exact same.
You can totally customize an RV and put your water inside but it requires stripping it out. Personally I want to get a really old camper and redo it into a tiny home.
I'm all van. And not an extended van either. Fit in any parking spot. Drive daily. Drive anywhere. Drive in the city. No need for a toad. It comes with compromises. You won't have your whole family in it. Not meant for full timing. But for 1 or 2 people, it is all you need. Anything bigger is if you only go to camp grounds/RV parks. And that is like living in a trailer park.
Thank you I’m trying to decide and that’s kinda what I was thinking do I really want to be limited to campgrounds. U think I can do 3 people in a van part time
It does pretty well! It’s definitely right at capacity, but we towed the with the 4runner through plenty of mount passes and snowy drives and it did really well! We have recently added airbags to the rear suspension to help with the sag
With the trailer when you drive off to explore you have to come all the way back vs a Van where you can always go forward.
Just found your clips..good info!
Going to pick up a Basecamp 20X tomorrow. Pumped! Cheers!
Still deciding, I am leaning towards a Travato 59KL for short trips 2-3 days possibly a week at a time.
If you aren’t charging while towing you need to set up for dc/dc charging. Easiest way to keep charged.

Congrats on the Basecamp, Greg! Mine went in this last Sunday...Our Basecamps will be factory siblings! 😂
If you run into them only run into their car or trailer, not both so that they always have the other one! 😉

@@brockjohnson3575 Oh sorry, I meant trailer life vs. apartment life

What a great video, especially about the benefits of being detachable and having space for each other! 👏🏻
Thank you!! so helpful for our personal space

One big problem with van is a driving, you are driving some commercial vehicle which feels like a tractor, people who likes cars will understand.
These were great tips and comparisons!!! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
If the van breaks down and you have a warranty they put you in a hotel and you can get a rental.
Great video. Looking to get a trailer next year and this was helpful
We are happy to hear that it was helpful!
Thank you! This video was do helpful. I am currently trying to decided If I should do a trailer or trade my suv for a van.
That's so great to hear! Whatever you choose, remember to always have fun! Thank you for watching! 😁
Based on experience, what works you say is more gas friendly?
What was your trailering set up like? Did you use a towing stabilizer hitch? If so? which one?
Yes! Anderson tow hitch
How about insurance, which way is cheaper? Van or car plus trailer?
LOVE your cushions! Did you cover the existing or replace them entirely?
we had new covers made and extra stuffing added, but kept the base foam (:
love your vibes do yall snowboard or skateboard? i sense that in you
Big snowboarders!

You tow with a 4 runner……All I hear from Facebook is you should not tow with anything less than a truck……How does it tow/setup

It's a basecamp, you could tow it with a Honda civic...
Does the 4runner struggle towing this?
It does surprisingly well!!
just bought a 23 trailer
Great Video... Tell Brett I said Hi..
Great video.
Thank you!!
Love the video but you guys completed excluded people who build their own trailers from scratch. Some of the pros and cons aren’t true in those cases.
Hold on girl: if you went out in a van for a couple of days and hated it immediately counts.
Annoying music
