    Hi Andrea, I'm brushing up on my Swiss German with your videos, having lived in Zurich for several years in my twenties, I went to school there im central for Hochdeutsch. I am living in Canada at the moment and long to return to Switzerland sooner than later to resume my studies in my favourite country.

    This is incredible. I've learned as much from you in 15 minutes as I did in the first year I knew my husband. Er ist kein Lehrer. ;) Danke vielmal! Hopefully I can surprise his family with something a little better than my normal langsamer Hochdeutsch next time I see them. :D

      Ich finde das sehr interessant. Mein Mann ist Schweizer und lieber auf Englisch mit mir als Hochdeutsch sprechen. Er sagt immer, dass Hochdeutsch für sie eine Fremdsprache ist, so gibt es keinen Unterschied. Das mach mich enttäuscht. So my resort now is to just focus on learning Schwiizerdütsch. Sowieso spricht niemand Hochdeutsch hier ausser die Ausländer wie Ich. Merci vielmal für dieses tolles Video.

    Would you be kind enough to clarify, Andrea: Do you write these terms in Swiss German too? Or, is it purely spoken dialect. I was led to understand that you write everything in German, not Swiss German!

    • @SwissGermanBeginners
      @SwissGermanBeginners  3 роки тому +4

      Formal written communication is usually in German, yes. But informal written communication (like chatting on Whattsapp, on Social Media, in personal letters or cards), we more and more often write things in Swiss German. It's just more personal to us. You can hear about that in this video as well ua-cam.com/video/L_0YbBOKb6g/v-deo.html

    Hey, I just wanted to say thank you so much for making these videos, it's been so helpful.
    I have one question though! (forgive my ignorance, I am non-European ;)
    What is the difference between the green highlighted phrase on the top, and the middle line? One seems to be the pronuciation? I suppose as a native English speaker I would write thing phonetically, a little different. Unless it's the actual spelling, in an entirely different dialect (or perhaps High German) or something?! Total beginner here!
    Thank you so much!

    • @SwissGermanBeginners
      @SwissGermanBeginners  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Apryl! Great to have you here! So the phrase in green is Swiss German and the second one is High German. To show how similar Swiss German and German are. So you can compare the two languages. I hope that helps?

    • @aprylfawn707
      @aprylfawn707 3 роки тому +1

      @@SwissGermanBeginners Okay, that's kind of what I thought! I am a native English speaker (from Canada), and I also speak Spanish at an intermediate level.
      I have JUST began learning Swiss German.
      Is it imperative for someone to have a grasp on High German before attempting to learn Swiss German, or can one begin with Swiss German?!
      Also, I love your style and attitude. Do you offer private lessons?!
      Thank you!!

    • @aprylfawn707
      @aprylfawn707 3 роки тому +1

    • @SwissGermanBeginners
      @SwissGermanBeginners  3 роки тому

      @@aprylfawn707 I'm glad you asked that question! I really need to make this more clear!
      May I ask why you decided to learn Swiss German? I mean I LOVE that! :) To be honest, I think it's best you have a grasp on German first as there's just so much more learning material plus Swiss German has so many different dialects and can be confusing if you don't know a bit of German first. You could learn both at the same time though. To be able to compare things while you learn.
      Unfortunately I don't offer private lessons (yet). As soon as I will, I'll let you know!

    Ich gang hut go ranne. Warum gehe ist gang in diesem Satz? Ich habe ein Video gesehen und dort war: ich ga, du gasch... Und die Zweite Frage. Gibt es nachher go ranne. Warum gibt es" go " dort?

    • @SwissGermanBeginners
      @SwissGermanBeginners  2 роки тому +3

      You can say "ich ga" or "ich gang". It's the same and it doesn't matter which version you use. The "go" is a speciality of Swiss German. "Ich gang go ränne" means "I'll go running" which means with certain verbs like "going" we use some kind of double verb "gang GO" or "chum CHO". I might have to do a video about this sometime..
