Nice one Ryan. That carbon gunk is horrible!. In a previous car life with an Audi 4.2 fsi v8 we had bad carbon problems but it was rock hard. I made a little jig for blasting them with walnut shell media. Just had to make sure to turn the engine so that the intake valves were closed before cleaning each cylinder. Took about 30 seconds cleaning per valve and they were like factory!
Nice one what did u use to suck out the residual sitting around the valves I would have done similar but with it being sloppy and sticky I new it would be to hard to clean it away so pritty much scraped out what I could and use a little balloon attatched to a straw that I blew up to clock the hole further down
@@OUTBACKDiscovery I made a little plate that fitted the size of the port - one with pipe to my old dyson vacuum cleaner and a hole to poke the blaster in. Just had to stop every now and then for the hoover to catch up. I only forgot to close valves for one cylinder 🙄😆 🤦🏼♂️
@@NathanNostaw I'd suspect worn bearings but dought the crank is damaged as the engine stalled installed when the timing belt tensioner snapped I'd say pritty confident valve and cam damage as I have almost no compression when turning the engine over on cylinder 4 and 6 So head gasket and heads and crank bearings
Still catching on on youtube vids after getting away for Xmas. Looking forward to the rest of this series. Those injector return line clips are a bastard with the engine in the car. Don't want to loose one as you can't get a replacement without buying a whole injector (at least that was the case when did mine). I had one go flying and I was convinced I'd lost it, but found it on the edge of the starter battery on reassembly
Yeah when I first done my oil cooler I snapped the far rh ( 4 ) nipple off in the Injector and had to reach the whole return line bloody bitch of a thing Also you can get clip with the fuel line kit for the Injectors Comes with Injector line, seat, and return line clip that's what I done with mine bought through rovacraft for about $65 was about 12 months before your vid though so listings might of changed when u done yours

@@OUTBACKDiscovery yeah, your vid on mass air flow sensor a few months ago made me look. When i see how bad the sensor was i checked the pipe. Thanks for the vids.
It's good you can install a much more modern engine in the Discovery. There was a bit of puss in the intakes, not as much as I would have expected. Will you show us what your original intakes look like? Can you use off the shelf MAP cleaner to clean the MAP? I ask because Rovers tend to be fineky vehicles.
Hey rob I will probly start the rebuild in a month or to once I build up some money again and then I'm going to try and do a comparison from of stuff like my intakes vs the territory , crank shaft bearings as mine been serviced every 7.5k for the last 14 years Regular maf cleaner will be fine just make sure u dry it out fully before re installing Personally I use the crc branded maf cleaner if that helps Ur peice of mind on which one to buy 🤙🍻
@@OUTBACKDiscovery Looking forward to the comparison. I have CRC MAF cleaner, so will use it. Thanks for the advise. Some time this year I will take my intake off and have a look see & clean. Mine is an 2007 Discovery with 220,000Km

That was only in December 2021. I would like to think they would have cleaned the manifold. I would be disappointed if they didn't. Anyway, I shall check it out. I had to pull one of the EGR pipes between the EGR valve assembly & the inlet manifold to provide a bit more access. The pipe was not at all choked up, nether was the top of of EGR or the inlet manifold where it connected to. I flashed the pipe out anyway while it was out. I didn't bother with the other ones because of how good this one was. All will be revealed in the next few months.

Hey Chris happy new years And yes each inlet has a separate port in the head those 6 black holes that u could see were the inlets and the other 3 were the fuel injector channels
Think i just blew the front crank seal on mine (after fitting upgraded oil pump and new aftermarket seal) damn thing, thats what im thinking anyways, was good till high revs then dumped all my new oil, bastard things 🤣
Haha awww mam spewing Food for though you may have possibly pushed the seal in to far and blocked of the oil drain port causing the seal to get pushed out When you fit the new seal the Ford manual stipulates to only out it in 1mm past flush to prevent the drain hole blocking I may be wrong but maybe double check when you reinstall and good luck 🙂🙌

Hey Joseph if you keep ontop of the Y peice of the intake it shouldn't get to back in your manifold There's no real easy way to clean the actual intake manifold without removing U can do the carbon cleaners and stuff but I'm not a fan as it's basically getting sucked straight into your engine

If u go to my oil pump failure video u will see where it breaks off It's real common in the early 2.7's before 09 I think the timing belt tensioner mounts to the top of the oil pump , the old style oil pump isn't reinforced where the tensioner mounts and spontaneously breaks off without warning , the new style oil pump is reinforced and no longer an issue
Hey Ryan. Greetings from Wanneroo. Did you just get the territory engine as a replacement or did you look at getting a new tranny too? I'm wondering if its simple to get a recon territory and a recon ZF 6HP26 and mate them up? Grant
Hey Grant My engine is out a 2011 territory I done a bottom end rebuild on it and some head work before installing which I'm glad I did Half the lifters were worn so would of still had that annoying ticking on start up until oil pressure came good And the crank endfloat was at max spec 0.32mm so need crank bearings In regards to swapping it into a disco if yours is 2007 onwards you can get away with just swapping All the front pulleys and timing cover Sump, engine mounts, harness In regards to the trans if you just switch a trans over it will need to be programmed in from what I understand unless you switch the mechatronics unit over from your original transmission I had mine rebuild with upgraded torque converter and lock up clutch aswell as a zip kit installed into the valve body to help with clutch oil pressure for holding gears was worth the coin
