    My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
    Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

      I'm reminded of the time I went to the Cincinnati Zoo and a keeper lady showed up at the hippopotamus enclosure with a wheel barrow full of cabbages and watermelons , which she tossed directly into the wide open mouths of the hippos. Despite having very large and presumably capable teeth , very little chewing was going on. Of course none of the people featured on this show would eat anything as healthy as a cabbage or watermelon

    I'm sure it is discouraging for many obese people who don't want to start a diet thinking they can no longer eat any of their old favorite foods. I'm 77yesrs old 5'6 and stay between 135 and 140 lbs. I walk a lot but nothing strenuous. I eat a SMALL amount of anything I want but try to keep it around 1200 calories a day
    If I go to a gathering with friends I eat whatever I want and really cut back the next day to average out the 2 days. Good luck ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍

      It’s unlikely that they will be able to maintain a 1200 calorie a day diet for the years it would take to lose all the excess weight, and then never eat more than 1600 to 1800 calories a day for the rest of their lives. It’s possible, some people do it, but relatively few are successful. It’s probably worth a good hard try, though, I agree with you there.
      Also some people really need to lose a large amount of weight more quickly because of other medical problems.

      Depends on which surgery they get. The full gastric bypass reduces the size of stomach & also bypasses the section of your intestines that is responsible for processing sugars and fats. Therefore if you eats certain foods/drinks your body cannot properly process or absorb the nutrients and they go right thru you. It’s not a comfortable feeling and generally you learn more about what you can/cannot have as you go. I have a list of things i can no longer have that I call my Food Graveyard. I’m in the minority of patients who have had loads of complications and they have not been able to fix things so I’m primarily fed via a tube they placed in my remnant stomach.

If they are too far gone to not realize that fried food, cheese, sodas candy, cake and ice cream are not diet foods, then they are really lost . She can still walk so what she needs to do is to talk frequent walks every day. Short walks at first, even just around the block and go vegan or vegetarian. Fried lettuce is not very tempting but fried chicken is tempting. Also, has she thought about what her food addiction is costing her in money? And why is her family bringing her meals that will just put more fat on her body?

      Salads generally lack enough protein/fat to do sustain you in the long run unless your salad has lots of nuts in it or maybe lots of salad dressing. Fiber is great but you need more than fiber and basic calories to be healthy. Oatmeal or even a pbj is likely healthier than eating salad daily tbh....
      Edit: well actually I guess a "meat salad" could work too, but getting the ratios right is important, and using lean meats for your salad is even better, I guess some sort of chicken Italian salad(balsamic vinegar, no croutons or ranch) with nuts an some tomatoes or carrots or something might actually be healthy. But if you load up your meat salad with tons of croutons or salami than its no better than eating a pizza or cheese steak...

      @Vaahteranlehti 2 місяці тому

      The people who weigh that much and don't go to work, don't need carbs for fuel. Not for anything. They don't burn calories at all. Sitting and being in bed and walking to the kitchen doesn't burn calories. That's why Dr Now says that no carbs. And no. Those people can't have even a small treat that contains sugar or syrup or honey. It's true, tho, that 1200 calories a day is a little too low for those people. I disagree with Dr Now in the calorie amount. But even if they would eat 1500 calories a day, the calories can't come from carbs but from protein, vegetables and fruits.
